Basketball (Blackstar x Reader) [2]
[Timeskip]
"Well then." Blackstar turned to you, smiling. "That'll be all for now."
"Awww ? I still haven't made a three-point shot ! Please, can you make it last longer ?"
"Nope." Blackstar laughed, ruffling your messy hair. "I've been teaching you for two months now, and you still haven't remembered how to shoot properly." He started walking to one of the benches. You pouted, following after him. "Fine."
You and him grew close through the months of him teaching you how to play the said sport. You were happy, of course, now able to be friends with him and learn how to play.
But the thing is, your heart's a large idiot. It would tire you out easily, and make you gasp for air a lot.
And it sucks.
"Also… I might cancel next week's training." Blackstar sat down, sighing. You blinked, sitting beside him. "…Huh… Why…?"
"We're going to fight off the other school's varsity next week. I'll have to train with Soul and the others. I can't slack off." He shrugged, opening a water bottle and drinking it. You watched him, and sighed. "Well… I can help you guys again !"
Blackstar turned to you, frowning slightly. "…You don't need to, really… I mean… We can take care of ourselves…"
"Nope." You smiled widely. "I like helping people. So I'll help you guys win the game ! By… Passing bottles, that is…"
Blackstar blinked, and bursted out in laughter. "Well, you really are an interesting girl." He shrugged.
"Thanks…?" You shyly laughed.
Then… Silence. Not the awkward one. Just, silence. Peaceful silence.
"…You tired ?" Blackstar was the first to shatter it. You turned to him, and turned away, yawning a bit before nodding. "Sort of…"
"…Here." Blackstar patted his lap. "Get some sleep." He smiled. You blinked, and blushed. "N-no, y-you don't really need to…" You looked at him shyly. "I-I'll just sleep when I get back ho--"
"Shush." Blackstar grabbed the side of your head and pushed you down to his lap. You gasped, as the left side of your head felt his lap, making you blush harder.
"Sleep." He looked down at you. You looked up at him, giving a nervous laugh. "A-are you really sure…?" You mumbled. Blackstar sighed, placing a hand over your eyes, making them close under his palm.
"Of course it's fine. Don't worry, I'll wake you up right before it gets dark."
"W-well… Okay…" You relaxed, starting to let yourself drift off. "…Thanks…" You mumbled, and let yourself fall asleep.
Blackstar stared down at you, and frowned slightly.
[days ago]
"So, I heard you were teaching (y/n) basketball." Soul shrugged, pressing buttons from the game console he was holding. Blackstar laughed. "Yeah. So what ?"
"Dude, you're teaching a girl." Soul laughed. "But not just any normal girl."
"Damn right. She's much more better than the others."
"That's not what I'm saying."
"…Huh ?" Blackstar furrowed his eyebrows. Soul paused the game, and sighed. "Blackstar, did (y/n) tell you about her, having heart attacks and such ?"
"What are you saying ? She didn't--"
"Welp… Four years ago, she had the illness temporarily healed. But it got back. Maka told me though. Stein was giving her bandages for her ankle and accidentally talked about it."
---
"…That can't be real… Right…?" Blackstar frowned, staring down at your sleeping face. "That can't be freaking real…"
He then sighed, then decided to take your bag. He has the chance right in front of his face, and he's going to take it, to find out if you were really ill or not.
He opened it, and looked at the contents. Book… Phone… Books again, pens, pencils… An empty water jug… And a container of… Pills…?
He took the container, looking at it. There were lots of pills inside, about halfway across the container, and a folded paper inside. He then opened the container, and took the paper, unfolding it.
"3 times a day, and if feeling chest aches and breathing difficulties.
Note: Don't let Blackstar notice. [The basketball stuff !]
--(y/n)--"
"…So much for basketball…" Blackstar frowned, sighing. "She's going to kill herself…" He placed the paper back, and placed the container inside again.
"I have to stop teaching her or she'll die…"

[Two days before the game]
"Blackstar !" You yelled, chasing after the blue-haired boy, holding a ball. "Blackstar, are you done using the court ?"
Blackstar turned to you, and gave a cold stare. "…Yeah. Why ?"
"Thanks." You smiled, bowing down at him. "I'll try to follow your instructions and shoot !"
Blackstar made a sigh. "…(y/n), stop it."
You blinked, tilting your head at him. "Huh ?"
"I'm not going to teach you anymore."
Your eyes widened, obviously startled. "W-what…? Why…"
"You're ill, (y/n). If I keep on teaching you, you'll die… You have heart attacks." He frowned. "I'm sorry… But… I have to stop teaching you."
"No… No !" You dropped the ball, tearing up. "Look, I won't die ! I drink my medicine regularly, and I kept up with you, right ?!" You knelt down on your knees, taking his hand. "Please, don't give up on teaching me ! I-i… I'll do anyth--"
"(y/n), stop it !" Blackstar grabbed his arm back. "Just… Just accept it. You can't play basketball because you're sick ! Stop hoping and stop dreaming !" He yelled, glaring. "And you know what, you even lied ! You could've just told me from the start !"
…Silence.
It wasn't awkward silence… It wasn't a peaceful silence…
It was a depressing silence.
Blackstar looked surprised. Tears welled up and streamed down from your eyes, small sobs starting to rise from you. Blackstar paused with wide eyes, and frowned, sighing. "I-I… I'm sorry… I didn't…"
You shakily stood up without a word, and went over to where the ball bounced. Then, you carefully took it, and ran off.
"(y/n)--"
Blackstar took a step after you, but Soul made a sigh. "Just… Let her go, Blackstar. It's not like you can do anything to save her, anyway…"
Blackstar frowned, looking down and sighing. "Y-yeah… I… I'll just apologize later…"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"He's just like them…" You mumbled sadly, walking in the empty court and closing the large doors behind you.
"I thought he was different…" You mumbled again, trying to stop your tears by wiping them. "I'll prove him… I'll prove it to him…"
You looked at the ball, and back up at the ring. "…I can learn by myself…" You mumbled, and placed your bag down.
"I don't need anyone to help me out !"
[next day]
"…Have you seen (y/n)…?" Blackstar looked at his roommate, watching Tsubaki fix her stuff. She's a part of the volleyball team, by the way.
"I'm sorry… But… Nope. After the thing that happened to both of you in the hallway yesterday, I haven't seen her anywhere."
"Oh… Okay…"
Blackstar sighed, picking up his bag and left the room.
He's been looking for you since yesterday. But after what happened, no one saw you. It was bugging him, because he was feeling really guilty of what he said. He had a bad habit of saying what's in his mind out loud when… Well, angry.
He walked in the hallway alone, sighing.
"Good luck in the game !" You happily cheered, making Blackstar laugh. "Geez, why are you so excited ?"
"Well, mainly because you'll defeat them again ! And I'll tell them you're teaching me so they'll be like, "woah that's so awesome !", right ?"
"Well, we'll still have sessions after the game. And we have to practice a bit so… I'll see you later ?"
"Yeah !" You smiled, nodding. "I'll be watching !"
Blackstar laughed.
"You always watch."
"Damn it…" Blackstar cursed, ruffling his hair. "I'm such an idiot…"
"…Blackstar."
Blackstar froze in place. How he missed that voice ! But… It wasn't the usual, happy one…
He turned, just to see you, holding a ball. "I'm not going to watch the games tomorrow."
He looked surprised, of course. "H-huh…? But… You always--"
"…I have to practice." You mumbled, before sighing. "Tell them there won't be someone to pass water bottles." You said with a cold tone, and started to leave, but…
"All on your own…?" Blackstar asked, frowning. "…What if you collapse…? Or pass out… Or faint--"
"It's not like you care if I do or not." You mumbled as you passed by him, eyes narrowed.
"…Also…" You turned to him. "I don't need you to care." You said in a grim voice, and walked off.
Blackstar watched you, and sighed. "…Damn. I messed up so much…"
[The day of the games]
"Blackstar, you alright ? You seem so down." Soul patted his teammate's shoulder, making him sigh. "If it's (y/n), just drop it off. She's fine on her own."
"…I'm just concerned, that's all." Blackstar sighed. Soul shrugged. "Well, you have to focus in the games. Collect yourself." He grinned at him. "There's still an hour left before they start, anyway. get some fresh air ? That would help."
Blackstar turned to him, and smiled. "Yeah… Thanks, Soul."
"Don't sweat it."
Sighing, Blackstar left the court, which was crowded with audience. Then, he went for a walk in the hallway.
"That's close ! Ugh."
He blinked, hearing voices from the outdoor court. They had two, anyways. Their school was large as hell and there are lots of sport rooms.
"One more time…"
"…That's… (y/n)'s voice…"
Quickly, Blackstar followed the voice. And as soon as he reached the court, he saw you there, practicing on your own.
You were standing at the three-point line, taking balls and trying to shoot. "…Bend knees, and…" You threw the ball, and grumbled, watching it bounce off of the ring. "Agh, damn it !" You cursed, pissed.
Blackstar sighed, deciding to watch secretly.
"Here's how to shoot. You bend your knees, and place your hands around the ball, there. Use your legs like spring to make yourself rise a bit and shoot."
"Oh… Okay then…" You mumbled, and did as he said, but it went too sideways. "Aww."
"Again. Aim right." Blackstar laughed.
You looked down, frowning at the memory. "…I can't even shoot…" You mumbled, but fisted your hands. "Tch… That won't stop me !" You took another ball, and closed your eyes, remembering what Blackstar taught you in the memory.
"…Okay… Bend… And…"
You threw the ball, and opened your eyes, watching the ball…
Go right through the ring.
Blackstar made a smile. "…There ya go." He whispered, and frowned. "…Good job…" He turned to the schoo, and heard the host of the games speaking. Sighing, he took one last look at you, and decided to leave.
"…A three-point shot…" Your eyes widened, and gasped happily. "Three points… Blackstar, look, I made a three-point--"
You turned, and… Saw no one. You paused, feeling your heart shatter a bit.
"Look, I made it to the side with the dribbling !"
"Good job !" Blackstar grinned, holding a thumb up.
--
"Blackstar, look ! I got the ball in !"
"Awesome ! You're getting used to this now, aren't you ?" Blackstar laughed.
"…He's not watching." You frowned, looking down. "…I made my first three-point shot but he wasn't watching…"
"…Blackstar."
Blackstar froze in place. He looked so down… But it's impossible for him to care.
He turned, just to see you, holding a ball. "I'm not going to watch the games tomorrow." You said in the coldest voice you have.
"I don't need you to care."
"…Those…" Your eyes widened, and teared up. "…No… I… I can't…" You sniffled, the depressing feeling started making your chest hurt. "…I wanted him to watch…"
You took the last pill you have in your pocket, and drank it. As soon as you felt fine, you ran off, heading for the indoor court in the school.
"…I want him to watch…"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Blackstar, you're out of it ! Look, you're giving the other team extra points !" Soul yelled. Blackstar sighed. After what he saw… He just… Didn't feel like playing…
He turned to the seat where you usually sit, and found it empty, crushing his heart more. He wanted you to watch… For some reason, he wants you to watch him.
Then, the ball slipped out of his hand. Blackstar looked surprised, turning to Kilik Rung, from the other team, who just stole the ball from him.
"Damn it…" He cursed, running after him to try and get the ball back.
"Get it back !"
Blackstar's eyes went wide. Was that who he think it is ?
"Quick ! One minute left !"
He turned his eyes sideways, seeing you, now sitting on the chair and grinning widely. "Win the game !"
He looked startled, and gave you back a grin, then went back to chasing. You were there, and that was what he needed to win the game.
When Kilik made a shot, Blackstar stopped it mid-air and took the ball, making the crowds cheer.
You panted heavily, feeling your chest start to ache. You ran as quick as you can, but it was already the second half when you got there.
But you continued to cheer him up.
Seconds decreased, and Blackstar was winning the game again, giving rows of three-point shots and such.
**PLAY THE VIDEO !**
15,
"…Hold on a bit longer…" You thought, clutching your chest but kept watching. When Blackstar would turn to you, you would grin, to hide the pain. All your pills ran out from the practice, and the whole container was left in the bag, back in the outdoor court.
14,
"13 more seconds…" You chanted in your head as the pain started overwhelming you. You weren't able to focus, panting heavily and…
13,
"Blackstar, what are you doing ?!"
"(y/n) !"
Everything went upside down in your sight, and you felt pain from your left side, and heard a thud. Then, footsteps.
"(y/n), are you okay ?"
That voice… He can't be here… He should finish the game…
12,
"(y/n), please, answer me !" Strong arms went around you, and held you up, letting you see him. He was blurry though…
Everything started turning black. You tried to gasp for more, air, but…
*sigh* You weren't able to.
…Guess this is the end.
After all… You learned… It's all you wanted. But you had regrets…
"B-blackstar…" You mumbled, doing your best to get the words out.
"…I love you."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Blackstar sighed, standing in the middle of the court, dribbling the ball.
"She didn't make it."
"…It was too late, Blackstar. I'm sorry…"
He squeezed his eyes shut, and let his tears fall, still dribbling the ball slowly.
"Damn it, (y/n)…"
He shakily mumbled, opening his eyes and letting the tears increase.
"…I told you to stop, but you didn't…" He laughed with a cracked voice, sniffling and wiping his tears with his free hand.
"We graduated yesterday, (y/n)… And today's your 40th day gone…" He sighed deeply, starting to sob.
"You didn't even finish fourth year high school before dying…" He made a snort, looking at the ball he was dribbling. "Did you do that on purpose ?"
He threw the ball, watching it go right through. "…Here's a three-point shot for you… I hope you're still watching though."
His tears streamed again, and made himself laugh, sitting on the court floor, the dim lights from the setting sun going through the windows.
"S-scratch that… Screw you, (y/n)… You always watch… I bet you're watching me cry like an idiot right now…" He looked down, his tears stil streaming non-stop as he made effortless wipes to remove them.
He laid down on the cold ground, sighing. "For a girl, who had the dream to play something so unusual… And dangerous for her own health…" He sniffled, starting to sob.
"You were interesting… You were brilliant, you were helpful, like a goddess to her people… And you know what…?" He smiled sadly, watching the lights leave from the setting sun.
"I would've married you…"
