Chapter 4: Why, God, Why?

The past three hours were much stinkeyes from people, especially since Nick agreed to Alfred coming to eat with our group every lunch. Everyone gives us a bit of the bad eye and I have no idea why. If it's because America's eating with our group, well they can suck it up I guess? Okay now I sounded like a jerk there. But in all seriousness, Alfred asked first and the majority said yes. I didn't say no, but I didn't say yes either. I was a bit skeptical at first, but he gives the group a good mood.

Okay now the last description just made him sound like a hooker.

"So what's it like being a country?" Kristy, one of the captain of the softball team, asked as she and Nick put up a duel for a chicken nugget.

"Hectic." Alfred described in one word and munched on his burger. "Meetings everywhere, but this is the seasonal student thing."

"Student thing?" Hannah, the co-captain of the football (soccer) team, rose an eyebrow. "You mean you go to school like us every year?"

"Yeah, to keep up with the knowledge and to check up on citizens." He explained. "It used to be undercover, but then social media happened."

ALL YOU SINNERS STAND UP AND SING HALLELUJAH!
HALLELUJAH!

My head slowly turned towards Nick who quickly grabbed the nugget from Kristy and ate it. She grabbed her phone from her pocket and looked at the screen. Her eyes were wide open in fear. She chewed on her nugget, swallowed it, and downed her Mountain Dew in one go.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck!!!" Nick jumped out of her chair with her bag.

She nearly tripped over her chair, but she found her footing and ran. Before going out, she jogged backwards to our table and grabbed her chicken sandwich. Then she ran out while eating her lunch. Ah, the life of Nick is surely a sugar rush. Sports there and arts there.

"Five dollars that Mikey was the one who called her." I said.

"Ten on Mika." The only guy, besides Alfred, on our table gave a high five to seal the deal.

By the way, his name is Chris and he's one of Nick's friends from the theater.

"Twenty says that it's none of them." Hannah joined in and sealed it with a high five for the both of us.

"What's happening?" Alfred asked.

I turned my chair to him and explained the deal with these two people towards Nick. You see, Nick is kinda like a big deal in the school. Consider her popular, but for personality and her achievements. Plus she's pretty and petite at the right height.

"So Mika and Mikey are siblings who both have a crush on Nick, which is kinda cute, but at the same time hilarious because Nick is too oblivious to react to these kind of things." I showed him a picture of the twins with Nick in between them. "And ever since Valentine's earlier this month, they've been trying to confess to her in a lowkey manner. What's more hilarious was her response when they both told her I love you at the same time last Saturday."

"What did she say?" Before Alfred can answer, Kristy was already in fits of laughter.

"She just said- PFFFT HAHAHAHA!" We all looked at Kristy with straight faces as she backwards. "Oww..."

"She just said, Okay? Thanks? I guess, like a goddamn idiot and walked away." When that happened, I became so stressed because of her answer. She told me when she got home from practice that day and shrugged it off as if it was nothing.

But the entire thing just came out of an awkward romance movie. I giggled at the memory and snorted. Nick is just too pure for this world.

"How about you?" Alfred asked.

"Who? Me?" I stared at him in disbelief. "Everyone's too scared to approach me man."

I leaned back against my chair and shrugged. All of us were not afraid to show that we don't act too feminine at times, but to people I was too scary. Even if I acted feminine or not. I was too intimidating, according to them. From height to my strongs looks. I won't deny that my heights is not scary. I'm the tallest girl in school standing at 5'10. Guys are even scared of me, even if some of them were my friends. My aunt pointed out once that I had a good height and good looks, but I would have a hard time hunting for a boyfriend. Well it's their problem and not mine.

"Really?" He rose an eyebrow. "You don't look scary to me."

"You better believe it." A smile curved up my lips and rolled my eyes. I crossed my arms and crossed my legs. "I'm more than just a pretty face." I drank my water.

His expressions changed to something softer. His smile died down, but there were sparkles in his eyes. I had no idea who or what he was staring at. They got me in a connecting gaze. Was he staring back at me? Oh god, is he? Damn mind, stop overthinking. Is this really how we deal with things like this? God I hate being a teenager. I'm blamimg Nick for letting me read her trashy romance novels.

"Umm..." I put my drink away and straightened my lips.

"Wha- Oh!" He shook his head and looked away. "Nothing."

Damn dude, I know too many books with a scene like that. I looked behind me and saw one of those pretty girls in school, staring at our table and she smiled directly at our table with a fork in her mouth. Ah, must be her. Naomi Nelsen, the three-time champion of the chess team. A quiet, pretty, and smart girl. Behind that demeanor though, she's pretty kinky. Ask the the last guy she has dated. I heard chess pieces were involved.
Just kidding, but she is kinky from what I've heard. Thr chess pieces were just a joke.

Chances with Alfred are, I guess, at 10% at the most. Hey, I can dream.

"But seriously though." Alfred cleared his throat and looked back at me. "You're beautiful."

I made a finger gun and placed my chin between the space of my index and thumb. I nodded upward and gave a kiss to the air.

"You know it baby." I said in a cool manner.

But in the inside I was screaming. I'm good at acting cool while menatlly having a moment, but I'm surprised that I can do it this time. The last time I tried was the pick up line, oh god.

"Truly from that time at the hospital." He winked at me.

My smile grew bigger. Maybe this guy is gonna fit right in just fine. I had some sprculations what this guy would be like here. I imagined that he would be some old guy who just nags about the history and what life used to be, blah, blah, blah, and all of those shit. Now that he's right in front of me, he's kinda chill.

Maybe for now at least.
