Chapter 2: He Works At McDonald's?!

After that trip to the hospital, the whole week was entirely boring. Well Friday was getting closer, but besides that playing football just by the sides didn't really help me at all. Nick showed her sympathy- well, empathy. She got an injury during her freshman year. I'm not really familiar of what happened, since I was in my own game during that time, but I think she pulled a muscle or something when she batted and ended up getting a cast. Stayed out until she was back with a good arm.

"Cheer up, two more weeks will fly by like a breeze," says the one who usually waits for her fandom comebacks and sobs about them everyday.

I sighed almost hopelessly. There was nothing I can do about this. Expecting this to heal right away was a bit out of character for me to act like that. Guess that's how athletes think when they get an injury. To come and thik about it, I haven't had a similar injury like this since I was in the fifth grade. It was more serious though, I fractured my leg. Doctors said I couldn't play competitively again in the future, but hey I did play. Very competitively. I swore on my leg that if it broke that means I had to stop, but it never did. Take that doc!

Well that's a happy thought. Hey, it's kinda cheering me up a bit.

"I know what'll cheer you up!" I looked at Nick who grabbed her sling bag and posed right beneath the doorway. "Get up loser, we're going to get some Mickey D's."

Without protesting or any second thoughts, I immediately got up from my bed and grabbed my wallet and my phone. The thought of McDonald's seemed to brighten the world a bit. Big Macs and fries, oh the thought of that just made my stomach grumble. Add some coke right there and maybe a sundae, every thing would be perfect. Apple pies? Yes please. If I see anything else on the menu, I am getting some. I practically grew up eating the gteasy stuff. Well, not always. From time to time or when we don't have dinner at times when dad's out of town.

"Alright, just tame the wild beast first for me will ya?" I pointed a finger towards my hair.

Ah, the struggles of having thick curly hair. It seems like I need to buy a new set of hair ties every week. I can barely comb my hair. Shampooing it more than twice in one shower, the hair fall I see by the drain. It is annoying, but hey look at the bright side. These flawless, natural bouncy curls don't need any curlers.

Surprisingly, Nick did it under five minutes. A record for someone who can barely tame her own hair. And I'd like to point out that her hair is neither curly not straight. It's not too thick or too thin anyways. She's just too lazy to fix her hair. She likes dyeing her hair differently though.

"Ta-da!" She singsonged. I faced the mirror to see my hair in ponytail. It's kind of messy- a few popping out and some hanging down loose -but it'll do.

"TO MCDONALD'S!" We exited the room and went down to the garage where they kept Nick's Jeep.

Well, it was almost nine in the evening anyways. No parents and no relatives to keep us in. All of them were off for business or dealing with some family down in the south or all the way in the east coast. It was just me and Nick at home. We could throw a party, but my arm's gonna be the pooper if we did.

Minutes later, I found myself thinking about random things. I just realized on how mindless I was this week. I haven't listened to any of our discussions in psychology or in literature. My kicks seemed a bit off and I felt like I didn't really put effort in those group projects within the class. And that time at the hospital where I told the doctor a pick up line. I realized that I was sort of mindless there too. Not actually thinking about the words I say before saying them out loud. And he actually flirted back. What? Is that how flirting works? I don't think I flirted, I think I just blurted those words. He flirted.

Ugh, someome help me. My teenage mind is going to swirl again and again. I don't need any more boy troubles in life. All the troubles I need are my problems on how the heck can I get through this injury without raising my arm up in class.

"You okay?" I snapped out from my thoughts and nodded.

"I just feel more like an airhead if I'm not in the field." This is not a lie.

Nick chuckled and jumped out of the vehicle without opening her door. The typical behavior of Miss Nicole Chua. The weird one in the family. Basically, she is a living and breathing Lilo. Just with a more complicated background.

Minutes later, I found myself going through the glass doors. The cold air from the conditioning hit me as I heard my stomach growl. Late dinner and I'm looking for some burgers right now with a large coke. Maybe large fries too. I need to limit it right there. My coach is going to kill me if he finds out that I ate more grease. Eating at McDonald's after practice seems like a pretty good way to reward myself. Starbucks too at times, but I prefer my beef.

The sooner we ordered, the sooner we found a booth to ourselves. The place wasn't full- as expected -there were some personnel working and some late customers coming in. Also, I had to wait for a takeout. Some of their personnel decided to make hashbrowns without telling the manager and they ended up getting caught because someone thought it was up to be served.

In the middle of eating her burger, she wiped and gulped down her food and said, "Bathroom."

A simple word. I nodded as she got up and walked towards the restroom. With Nick gone for a short amount of time, I've got some time to think. And I've gotta think how to get myself back in the game. How to be myself again and to stop acting like an airhead. Maybe I just need some football or something to keep me busy. I'm pretty sure I walk around the halls like a zombie. My coach even asks me if I've got a bite anywhere because I look lifeless. Definitely missing football and still angry at myself for this. All that hard work I've done has gone to waste.

"You came to see me yourself huh?" I knitted my eyebrows as I noticed a shadow looming over me. "You could've just called ot text me."

I looked up from my half-eaten burger and stopped chewing. The food in my mouth was gulped down before I could open them in shock. It was the doctor who treated me, just that he was in the McDonald's uniform and holding the paper bag that had my hasbrown. For a second there, I could've sworn that my heart stopped. I was in complete shock before he chuckled.

"H-How- I thought you were a doctor?" I had so many questions.

"Well..." He scratched the back of hid neck in an unsure way. "I'm here to sub in for a friend who couldn't make his shift today."

If I didn't know that this guy was a doctor, I would've mistaken him as a part-timer here. He really fitted in, looking like a normal teenager. In fact, he looks like a high school jock with a cute dorky look.

The fact didn't have me in shock, but his appearance did. It made me so confused. Is he a doctor? A normal teenager? A part-timer? Some random dude who just happens to look cute? Lord help my brain.

Then from the corner of my eye, I saw a girl from a table across my booth. She looked like she was looking at me wide eye as she whispered to her friend who immediately took out her phone. It made me frown. Were they waiting for something to happen? A flash went off from her phone.

"Doctor-sir, do you know them?" He followed my gaze.

I didn't realize the uncomfortable aura around him until he suddenly left. He walked away.

"Hey! Yo!" I scrunched my face as I saw him exiting the back door. "Dude! Wait up!"

Before I can catch up with him, I bumped into Nick. She looked at me with a confused look and looked like she was about to scold me... because her bag is back at the booth. Oh shit.

"What's up?" She asked, definitely not angry. I shook my head and decided to keep it quiet for now.

The way he reacted, it was strange. Was this guys someone really famous? A YouTuber I don't know about? A writer? A model? Those seemed like logical answers, but I think it's more than that though. All I get is that he might be a celebrity. If he is one then why go out like this if he knows someone might notice him? Weird guy. But for now, I'm gonna leave that hanging me. Right now, dinner is important.
