Max didn't want to speak to her brother, but she would if it meant gaining some sort of forgiveness from Marigold. She couldn't stand the thought of her only friend refusing to hang out with her because of something her stupid step-brother did.

So, Max swallows her pride and decides to ask Billy for something she knows Marigold is interested in.

Walking into the boys room, she is clouded by the smell of cologne, and cigarettes. It's so overwhelming that she begins to cough and swat at the air around her, catching Billy's attention immediately.

"What do you want?" He growls, fixing his hair in his mirror.

"Your scissor hand gloves," she mutters. "Marigold wants to use them. It's the least you can do considering you terrorized her."

She expects him to argue, or yell at her to leave, but he never does. Instead, he walks over to his closet, leans up to get something, and leans back out with the gloves in hand. Walking over, he hands it to her, remaining unfazed.

"Tell her I said sorry," he states.

"Tell her yourself," she mutters lowly, swiping the gloves from his hands and stomping out of the house.

It's already 5:28, and Max spent so much time worrying about how to ask Billy for the gloves that she didn't even bother putting very much effort into her costume. Instead, she just grabs a cake knife from the kitchen, her mask, and wore all black. Good enough, right?

She waits patiently for Marigold to come out.

Right at 5:30, the girl finally shows. Her costume is pretty decent, but she didn't go all out with the whole burnt face make up.

"Ready to go?" Marigold calls, a smile on her face.

Max looks up, relieved to see that she isn't upset.

"Yeah, I got you something!" She smiles, walking over and handing the gloves to her.

"No way," Goldie gasps, slipping the gloves on. "Did you ask to borrow them?"

"Yeah. Now let's go," Max chuckles, pulling her along down the neighbor to the first house insight.

They go by at least thirty houses, and their sacks are already half way full. Marigold is pleased with this, but Max seems to feel as though she's being cheated out of candy.

"Hey, um, do you wanna meet up with those guys from our class?" Max questions, stopping before they go into another house.

It's 6:50, and they're at the Maple Street cul-de-sac.

"What boys?" Goldie cluelessly questions, tilting her head.

"You know...Dustin, Lucas, Will and Mike. The stalkers?" She reminds. "Lucas and Dustin invited me, but I figured they meant both of us. So, you wanna meet them? We're in the right place."

Goldie smiles brightly at the idea, and immediately nods.

"Yeah! Sounds rad," she nods. "First lets stop at this house though."

"Deal," Max nods.

The two get their desired amount of candy, and walk away from the porch with bright smiles. Then, from the corner of her eye, Max notices some familiar faces and rushes over.

"Keep quiet, I wanna scare them," Max giggles.

Goldie rolls her eyes and crouches behind the bush with her.

As the boys walk closer, Max jumps out of the bushes screaming a loud, "boo". Every single one of them screams and jumps, but Lucas takes the cake with his high-pitched girly scream.

"Holy shit! You should've seen the look on your faces!" Max laughs, pulling off her mask. "And you? Who screams like that? You sound like a little girl."

The boys sigh in relief, Mike immediately becoming annoyed.

"Goldie! You can come out now," Max shouts to the bushes, but nothing ever happens. "Goldie? GOLDIE?!"

"Hey, I went to that house over there because I heard a dog!" Goldie calls, running up from the other side of the street. "They had this really cute Labradoodle, oh my god, you should've seen it! It was wearing a 'bad to the bone' pirate costume that said 'lick or treat', isn't that so clever?!"

"I swear a child is trapped in your body," Max shakes her head. "Anyway, is cool if we bring her along?"

Dustin and Lucas share a look, then they glance at Will. Everyone seems to nod, except Mike who begins to connect the dots that they were invited.

Man does he feel betrayed.

"Sure," Dustin smiles. "The more the merrier!"

"Well, hurry up! Oh, I heard we should hit up Loch Nora," Max suggest walking off. "That's where the rich people live right?"

Goldie slows down to pace with the rest of the group, a soft smile residing on her cheeks.

"Hey! Steve lives there," She giggles. "Yeah, he is pretty rich, I guess."

They all walk to catch up to the two, excited to finally have some fresh faces in the group. Especially considering they were girls! It wasn't everyday two beautiful girls went trick or treating with you.

Mike follows reluctantly behind, glaring towards Marigold specifically.

What was wrong with this girl? Couldn't she take a hint that he wants nothing to do with her whatsoever?

Deep down though, even Mike is a little thrilled that she hasn't given up on him.
