Chapter 37
-The next day-
I sat up slowly and yawned loudly. Pumpkin approached me excitedly, licking my hand as I pet her head. "Hey Pumpkin..." I muttered, smiling a bit. I had just woken up from a nap, and I checked the time – which read 6:43 PM. I looked over to my left, and Lapis was laying on her bed lazily, texting on her phone. "When did I doze off?" I asked, scratching my neck. "About two hours ago..." she replied, not looking up from her phone. I sat there staring at her for a long moment, feeling quite tired still. However, I decided to suck it up, and get up.
I swung my legs over the edge of my bed, and hopped off with a grunt. "Did you feed Pumpkin this morning?" I asked, looking down at the puppy food bag in the corner. "Yeah, I did. She's prob'ly hungry again though..." Lapis explained, still not looking up from her phone. I nodded, and looked down at the puppy, who was now at my feet. I took the scoop that was previously on the floor, and reached it into the puppy food bag. I emptied enough scoops into the dog bowl, and dropped the scoop back down on the floor. "I'll be back later, Peridot. Make sure she gets water too." Lapis stated, climbing off of her bed and standing up straight.
I cocked my head to look over at her, and she was reaching for her varsity jacket draped over the desk chair. "Where you going?" I asked, now standing straight up once again. "Just running a quick errand, Peridot. Chill." Lapis said in an almost harsh tone, and I arched an eyebrow. She slipped her jacket on, and stuffed her feet into her converse. "That didn't answer my question, Lapis." I said, squinting my eyes.
Lapis turned her head to look at me, and her eyes were cold. "I'll be back in a couple hours..." she muttered, turning her back to me once again. She stuffed her phone in her back pocket, and grabbed her keys. And with that, she left. What is her deal? Where was she going?! Why was she acting so...cold? I sighed, and looked down at Pumpkin softly. She stared back up at me with a happy, yet naive expression.
. . . .
It had been an hour and a half since Lapis left, and I couldn't rest. I was pacing the room back and forth for nearly 45 minutes, wondering where the hell Lapis went. I had called her several times, only to be sent straight to voicemail. I had to go find her. Where do I even search?! Maybe I'll ask my friends if they've seen her. "I'll be right back, Pumpkin." I said in a squeaky voice, ruffling the fur on top of her head with my hand. She barked in response, and she sat on the blanket placed on the floor for her.
"Behave." I commanded, putting on my sweatshirt and slipping my shoes on. I grabbed my keys, and felt my pockets for my phone. Okay it's there. I quickly pulled the doorknob, and slipped through the door, swiftly closing it behind me. I walked across to Amethyst and Pearl's close dorm room, and knocked on the door urgently. After about 30 seconds, the door opened, and there stood Pearl. "Oh hello, Peridot." she chirped.
"Hey, Pearl. Have either you or Amethyst seen Lapis in, like, the past hour and a half or so?" I asked, fidgeting with my fingers. "Hmmm, well I haven't. Amethyst?!" Pearl then called, turning her head. "What?!" Amethyst shouted from the couch. "Have you seen Lapis lately? I haven't. But I know you just came back from AS. Did you happen to bump into her or anything?" Pearl asked, putting a hand on her hip. "Yeaaahhp. She was walking way down the right hall! Ask Squari!" Amethyst yelled, not moving her eyes from the TV. I sighed, and ran my fingers through my hair. "Ugh, alright thanks. I'll ask her." I mumbled, and Pearl nodded in response.
I walked away from the dorm, and heard the door close behind me. I walked all the way down to Squari's dorm, and knocked on the door. Ugh, out of all people why do I have to ask her?! My sister then opened the door, and looked me up and down. "What?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "Have you seen Lapis pass by your dorm by chance? Or did you ever bump into her or anything?" I asked, putting my hands into my pockets. "Nope. No idea where she is. But Jasper just got released from the hospital this morning. You can ask him." she explained, keeping her hand on the door.
"What?! He literally just woke up from a coma yesterday! How was he released this morning?!" I asked, confused. Squari only shrugged, and shook her head. "Guess he was good enough to go home." she replied, switching onto her other foot. "Alright, well...he isn't mad at me anymore, so I guess I could ask him." I grumbled, looking to the floor. "'K. Seeya Peri." my sister muttered, before closing the door. As I was walking toward Jasper's dorm, I was thinking. I was pretty hesitant to visit him again, but I didn't know why.
Maybe it was pretty fucking weird that he got released that early? Was that all of an act? Or is his healing rate just at an inhuman speed?! Why am I even going to his dorm?! Why the hell would he know where Lapis went? He probably hasn't even left his dorm. I arrived at the door, and was debating on whether I should knock or not. Is it even worth the stress? Why does he stress you out so much? Ugh. I forced myself to raise my fist to knock on the door.
I gently knocked once, but was surprised when the door creaked open. It's already open? Weird...I peeked my head in slightly, and looked around. "Jasper...?" I squeaked, darting my eyes back and forth. He was nowhere to be seen. I then fully opened the door, and walked in slowly. I started to get worried, and thoughts raced through my head. Was he kidnapped?! Was he killed?! What if both happened?! Is he passed out somewhere?! Oh god I knew he shouldn't have left the hospital that soon.
I walked around the dorm for a moment, and heard a grunt. A Jasper grunt. Oh fuck where did that come from?! "J-Jasper?! Are you okay?" I asked a little bit louder, finding the noise to be coming from the other room. I immediately dashed to the room, finding the door to be cracked. Oh thank the stars it's open. I heard heavy breathing, and then a moan came from the room. What?! I ran to it and gripped the doorknob, yanking it open as fast as I could. "Jasper ar-" I immediately froze, feeling my blood turn cold. My eyes hadn't yet processed what the fuck I was looking at for almost a whole 20 seconds.
They hadn't noticed me. My eye twitched, and my mouth dangled open as I was scarred by Jasper's bare ass, and two legs wrapped around his waist. Below Jasper, was Lapis, digging her nails into his back, moaning his name. Her eyes were closed, and Jasper's face was buried into her neck. Neither of them had noticed me, since Jasper continued thrusting into her. Since my brother continued fucking my girlfriend. MY girlfriend. I felt traumatized and betrayed, and my head began to pound. My hands shook, and furious tears spilled out of my eyes. This can't happen again...why am I always the one to be cheated on?! What the fuck did I ever do?! I slapped my hand over my eyes, and the keys previously in my hand dropped to the floor. The room suddenly started spinning, and I fainted.
. . . .
My body shot up, and sweat drenched my forehead. I was nearly hyperventilating as I sat there staring down at the blankets on...top of...me. I looked around, feeling my heart still beating at over a hundred miles an hour. "Peridot?! Are you okay?!" I suddenly heard Lapis's voice. I clenched the sheets beneath me, and my eyes darted down to Lapis, who was sitting on the floor with the puppy. It looked like she had been playing with her before I woke up. "I-I...h-huh?" I stuttered, still confused and terrified.
My breathing was still heavy, and hot tears filled my eyes. Lapis stared at me with a concerned look on her face, and she quickly climbed to her feet. She sped over to me, and sat on my bed. I tangled both of my hands into my hair, and the tears spilled down my cheeks uncontrollably. Lapis reached over to me and placed her hands on either side of my face, staring into my eyes. "Hey hey hey hey deep breaths, deep breaths..." she whispered, and my breath hitched.
I took deep breaths, and my breathing soon slowed once I processed everything. I swallowed hard, and looked back up at Lapis. Lapis had a serious expression on her face, and she looked seriously worried about me. "Are you okay?" she asked, placing her hands on my shoulders now. I nodded quickly, sniffling and roughly wiping my tears away. "Y-yeah yeah I'm fine! I'm fine I just had a nightmare..." I said in a cracky voice.
"Are you sure you're okay?" she asked once again, giving me a sad look. I stared at her, my dream replaying over and over in my head. My breath hitched again, and I was caught in a trance, stuck remembering the nightmare. "I have nightmares too...I'm sorry that happened...it sucks..." the bluenette mumbled, looking down at the bedsheets.
She then looked back up at me, and I stared back at her. "I'm pregnant." Lapis then stated, and my stomach dropped. "Y-YOU WHAT?!" I cried. IT WASN'T A DREAM?! DID I ACTUALLY WAKE UP FROM FAINTING?! My vision started growing hazy again. "Peridot I said your hands!" Lapis repeated in a loud tone. I blinked a few times, and shook my head. Wait. Oh. I stared down at my hands, and they were bleeding. I had balled my fists so tightly that my nails were digging into my palms...causing them to bleed. Lapis took my hands into hers, and she studied them closely.
"I-is Jasper still in the hospital? What time is it?" I suddenly asked. Lapis gave me a look of confusion, and lifted her chin slightly. "Uhhh yeahh...? We just visited him a few hours ago...it's like 9 PM..." Lapis answered. "O-oh..." I must've just dozed off when we got home. "Peridot...wh-what did you dream about?" she asked, looking back up at me. "I-I...c-can't remember..." I lied, feeling a headache coming on. "I-I'm okay, Lapis. I-I just...I was kinda overreacting. I-it was just a nightmare...it wasn't real..." I stammered, watching Lapis study my hands. "I'm worried about you, Peridot..." she murmured. I'm worried about me too. Jesus...
