chapter two
"Any plans for the weekend Twi?" Sunset asked. The pair were just nearing the end of their journey home.
"Well, it's my brother's birthday on Sunday, so we're going out for the weekend as a treat," Twilight stated.
"That's cute," Sunset smiled. "I guess I'll see you Monday then?" she asked, the path ahead of them separating as they went their different ways.
"Yeah! Bye Sunset," she waved.
As Sunset neared the house, she reached for her keys in her bag.
There was... something else in her bag she hadn't seen before. A book, the same type as her English book, but it didn't belong to her. She opened the yellow notepad and smirked - it was Rainbow Dash's book. The athlete had snuck it into Sunset's bag, as she always did - classic excuse not to do her homework. Sunset made a mental note to return it to her friend before Monday.
She took a quick glance through the window, spying her mother sat on the sofa - cup of tea in hand, and went inside.
"Hey mom," she greeted her mother, and sat on the sofa beside her. Her mom began scrolling through her phone, and once she was hooked to her phone there was no getting a word out of her. And so, Sunset did the same and took out her own phone. She had some messages from her friends. They had a group chat, of course.
The first text was from Rarity: "Girls, my house is empty this weekend. Do with that information what you will, but I'll be bored so any chance to meet would be greatly appreciated."
Rarity spoke posh, though when you saw it written down on text, it just sounded so unbelievable. Rarity's tone made Sunset smile.
"Smiling at your boyfriend's messages?" Sunset's mother chirped in. This was the first thing she had said since her daughter got back from school.
Sunset rolled her eyes, "No mom."
"Who then? What happened to that blue-haired boy.... Crash, or something?"
"Oh my god," Sunset jaw visibly dropped, ever so slightly. "Flash. Flash Sentry - but that was like, nearly a year ago? Maybe it was a year. I told you that was over ages ago."
For reference, Flash Sentry, blue hair and all, was Sunset's ex boyfriend. There was nothing insanely wrong with the guy, the two just weren't meant for each other... and Sunset wasn't going through her greatest phase at the time of the relationship either, so it didn't work.
"Whatever, so difficult to keep up with.." Sunset's mom shrugged.
"Keep up with?! Mom, I don't have a boyfriend. I don't want a boyfriend. What is your problem?!" Sunset felt her cheeks flaring. Before she could react anymore, she isolated herself into the office.
Sunset had no idea why this had got her so worked up. Usually she didn't care. Perhaps, she hadn't really thought about dating in a while. She didn't feel like she had needed to and the thought of a boyfriend grossed her out in a way beyond compare.
She pushed the thought to the back of her mind, and started looking around her mom's office. There were some old CD's in a box that she hadn't seen for a while. Sunset loved CD's, and was beyond tempted to steal a few.
The doorbell rang, and like every Friday, this was Sunset's cue to leave.
"I'll get it," her mom yelled. Sunset knew who was at the door before she even saw - her mother's boyfriend.
With that, Sunset stashed a few CD's in her backpack, and headed out the door just as the dreaded boyfriend slipped in. "Bye mom."
Sunset and her mom didn't get along like a normal mother and daughter. Although deep down each of them wished it could be, it couldn't.
Sunset didn't live with her mother. Every Friday she stopped by to see her, like today, and would escape before the house became... occupied. It was convenient to see her too, because Sunset didn't want to say goodbye to her mom forever, but her house was on the way to her dad's and it was nice to see her... most of the time. That's where Sunset was headed now: her dad's house; her own home.
On her journey home, she opened the group chat.
Pinkie Pie had replied:
"House party??! ;)"
Then Twilight:
"You guys have fun, I'm busy this weekend..."
And Rainbow Dash:
"Sucks for u, we won't miss u"
The party at Rarity's was shortly confirmed, sans Twilight, poor girl.
When Sunset got home, she opened up her bag that had been weighing her down on the journey. She took out the CD's, admiring her thievery, and took out Rainbow Dash's book. She opened it.
She found what she suspected... very little work, several scribbles - not doodles, scribbles - and the entire book was covered in Dash's boredom.
Sunset closed the book, took a picture of it and sent it to Dash, captioning:
"Lost ur book? Never fear, I'll return it just in time for you to do ur homework xoxox"
The kisses were sarcastic, like an inside joke between the two of them. They had an ongoing thing to prove how much they "hated" one another, and the constant sarcasm between that was majorly reflected through their messages. They were good friends.
An almost instant reply:
"So thoughtful!! What would I do without you?!"
Sunset laughed to herself. She then switched off her phone, popped open the first CD and let it run on the player.
A/N : Bear with me....
