chapter four
Sunset, AJ and Fluttershy entered cautiously. They didn't mind the idea of a big party too much, they just wished they would've been prepared for it. A few faces they recognised, but the lights were low and they were all distracted by music and yelling, and the sickening smell of alcohol.
"Who wants a drink?" Rarity suggested.
"Why not," AJ smiled. Sunset followed her, and the pair mingled over ciders.
Soon enough, the final few friends arrived.
"Who's ready to party?!!!!!" an almost screeching voice echoed from the front door. Pinkie Pie, of course, followed by Rainbow Dash.
"Jeez Rarity, who invited the whole school?!" Dash scoffed. Immediately she was lost in the crowd - Rainbow knew a lot of people.
Music blared and it was as if the party had been going on all night. The energy was beyond high. Fluttershy was seemingly the only one who kept her word about not drinking, and stood observing happily by the table, a lemonade in her hand.
"Everything okay Fluttershy?" Sunset drifted over. She wasn't drunk, just a little tipsy.
"Yeah of course, I prefer it over here," she smiled.
Sunset nodded, "Okay, well if you need anything or you wanna go outside, let me know."
The night carried on, and as it got later and later, the crowd started to shrink, and only a few remained (not including the odd one or two kids passed out on the sofa).
"What on earth... inspired you to bring the CHS population to your house party... Rares?" Applejack asked, her speech slurred.
Rarity was even worse affected by the alcohol, "I dunno, I'm just popular." she laughed. Applejack laughed with her.
"Where's Dash?! I wanna show her my party trick!" Pinkie screamed. Her voice was loud usually, but nothing compared to this.
"Over here," Rainbow slouched over. By far, she was the least sober.
Another few hours passed. Eventually Fluttershy and Sunset found themselves stood outside together, embracing the cool summer night air. Sunset hadn't had any other drinks and so by this point was just as sober as Fluttershy.
"I feel bad for Twilight, she's missing out," Fluttershy sighed.
"Yeah, me too. But this isn't really... her kinda thing, so I don't think she'll be too jealous," Sunset said, with a laugh.
Fluttershy giggled, "I agree." She brushed down her dress, "Well I'm gonna head inside, it's getting too cold out here."
Sunset nodded, "I'll be there soon."
She stood in silence alone, and it was only that way for a few short seconds. The door behind her swung open and out tumbled a girl, filled with what could've been either heaps of laughter or tears... or both.
The girl looked up, and Sunset recognised her friend with her distinct rainbow hair.
"Dash," Sunset reached forward for her friend, who was very close to reaching the floor she was so crouched over.
"Hey Sunset," Dash slurred, through identifiable laughter.
She wriggled, and somehow managed to escape Sunset's grip.
"How much have you drank?!"
Rainbow collapsed to the grass, still laughing. "Come join me... the grass feels cold."
Sunset was beyond concerned for her friend and questioned what to do. She made up her mind when her friend suddenly burst into tears, shortly followed by her puking all over the grass.
"Rainbow Dash..." Sunset sighed, still concerned. She pulled out her phone and let everyone know she was leaving with Rainbow Dash. It was her safest bet.
Sunset pulled Dash up from the grass, tying her hair back to avoid any more situations, and pondered for a second.
"I don't wanna go home," Rainbow wailed.
"Well, you can come to mine," Sunset said firmly, before swiftly scooping her friend up in her arms, slowly and carefully walking back to her home.
The walk was peaceful, and although Sunset got slightly worried when Dash was making no sounds whatsoever, she was shortly reassured by her friend's complaints.
"Why do you always ruin the fun?" Rainbow sighed, kicking her legs up.
"You know, you're not making this easier for me," Sunset smiled, carefully placing Rainbow down and steadying her walk with her shoulders.
The movement caused Dash to vomit all over again onto the road beside her. In the dim streetlights, Sunset could see tears streaming down her friend's eyes.
"Dash what happened tonight? How much did you drink?" Sunset asked, a sense of seriousness in her voice.
"Not enough," she smirked in response.
"Dash..."
"No seriously, Fluttershy watched me the whole time, she kept taking bottles out of my hand," Rainbow pouted, crossing her arms. Then she collapsed again, and Sunset carried her to her home.
They were silent the rest of the journey, right up until Rainbow was neatly placed into Sunset's bed, while Sunset made a bed of pillows on the floor beside. She had received a confirmation text from Fluttershy, saying that Rainbow had in fact not drank 'that much', and also that she wished the girls a safe journey home.
Sunset stared at her sleepy friend on the bed beside her. She was worried about her, of course. Tonight's events were unexplainable, but hopefully the morning would bring some clarity. She forced her eyelids shut and tried her best to get some sleep.
