TWENTY-ONE - BREAKING POINT

Of course, after a fun night with her friends, everything just had to go to shit.

The day had started out fine despite the fact that she once again had a nightmare of her blond friend dying the night before. Killian and Eliza hung out during lunch that day during her lunch break at work. She and Peter talked a few times in the hallways when they passed one another. Josh had called early that morning just making sure that she had gotten home safely the night before. Jasmine and Eliza kept a steady stream of texts going, making up for lost time. Felicity even canceled training for the day. Silvia didn't give her much paper work to do, and Pepper had come bearing a little gift – a chocolate cupcake – after coming back from a lunch date with Tony. Speaking of, the billionaire also have Eliza her allowance; which was really her paycheck for working at the industry. So, really, it was a good day.

It shouldn't have surprised her, then, that all of that good was outweighed by one terrible thing. Eliza had been getting ready to leave. Her hours for the day were over with and now she just wanted to go home and watch Netflix. Maybe, possibly, go out as Vixen. But then an all too familiar woman with dark hair and light blue eyes was suddenly standing in the middle of her own office. The hood of her cape was down, revealing all of her face, so Eliza could clearly see the evil smirk on her lips.

The corners of Eliza's mouth curled downwards, forming a deep frown, and her eyes narrowed at the woman.  "Morgana," she hissed out.

"Hello, darling," the ancestor greeted.  She gave a sickening smile that made the Stark girl's blood boil and her skin itch.

"What are you doing here?" Eliza asked, trying to stay calm despite the situation.

Morgana looked around the small room and with a shrug, she locked eyes with Eliza.  "Just to give a little warning."  She quickly saw the defensive stance the girl took and chuckled.  "Oh, I'm not going to do anything right now...  But I might soon if I don't get the crystal soon."

Eliza scoffed.  "What could you possibly say or do?  I already have nightmares and those stupid visions."

"Nightmares, you say?" Morgana's eyes narrowed slightly and the corners of her mouth tipped up some.  "You want to talk about nightmares?  How about I take your brother and father away?  Or, how about, those precious friends you have?  Or that boy you danced with last night.  What was his name?  Peter Parker?  I will tear them from your life if I don't get the crystal soon.  Oh, I will be your worst nightmare, darling."

Eliza's jaw went slack and instead of moving and attacking Morgana, she stood frozen in her spot with the sudden thoughts of all the people she cared about, gone.  She blinked once and suddenly Morgana had disappeared.  The young brunette rapidly looked around the room expecting her to be somewhere else near her, but Eliza was alone.  All alone.  Her hands gripped the edge of the desk behind her as her breathing became shallow and rapid.  She didn't want to be the reason why all her family and friends were gone.  She didn't want to even think about the possible ways they could be taken from, or the fact that Morgana had insinuated that she had been watching them, but yet she was; the thoughts were tormenting her.

She blinked, squeezing her eyes shut for a few seconds to try and calm down, but it didn't work.  Eliza bowed her head and closed her eyes again.  Why had it been so easy for Morgana to get inside her head and mess with her?  She shook her head at the question and tried to get rid of the thoughts of her dad dying along with her brother.

The sound of the door opening startled her.  Eliza snapped her head up and used her magic to fling a sharpened pencil at the person's head.  The person happened to be Peter Parker, and thanks to his fast reflexes he was able to dodge out of the way.  The pencil lodged itself in the doorframe.  Peter quickly looked over at the startled girl.  His eyes widened at how shaken up she looked to be.  Her eyes were large, and she was clearly scared of something and her breathing was rapid, but he had no idea what was wrong.

"Whoa, it's just me," he told her in a calm voice.  His hands were held up as he closed the door with his foot.  "El, it's alright.  Hey, what's wrong?"

Eliza clenched her jaw and stepped back away from Peter as he moved closer.  "No, no.  It's not alright!  She- She's been watching us- spying on us!  She knew we danced together last night, what if she was there?  This terrible, oh my God.  How did I not realize this?  I should've known, Peter!  She could be watching us right now- she threatened you!  A- And Killian and my dad; everyone."

"El, calm down," Peter said slowly.  He was worried and his arms were stretched out as if he was reaching for a wild animal.  "Take a deep breath, can you do that?  Just breathe.  We can talk this all out if you just calm down."  He paused before asking, "Did Morgana-?"

She quickly interrupted him, "She was here!  She- I can't be near you."  Eliza's face had a look of realization on it.  "I can't be the reason you get hurt-."

"No, hey!"  Peter grabbed her elbow as she passed by him.  "No, you're not leaving, Eliza.  You're on a verge of a panic attack.  Calm down."

"I can't be near-," she stopped her sentence and shook her head.  She was suddenly blinking back tears as she recognized her shallow breathing and shaking hands.  "I can't..."

Peter frowned.  He didn't know what to do or say now.  Slowly, he moved closer to the girl and cautiously wrapped his arms around her shoulders.  When Eliza didn't pull away, Peter pulled her into his chest and gave her a tight and caring hug.  "Breathe with me, okay?" He said in her ear.  "In...  Out..."  He breathed in and out in ten second intervals, and slowly Eliza started doing the same.  Eventually, she was hugging him back with her face in his shoulder.

"Thanks," she muttered into his shirt after a good minute of being calm.

Peter nodded and slowly pulled away from the hug.  He kept his hands on her shoulders, though, as he looked down at her.  She kept her gaze on the ground as she crossed her arms.  Peter simply stared at her for a moment before he finally spoke, "Are you okay?" It was probably (definitely) a dumb question to ask in that moment, but he needed to just so he could be sure.

Eliza didn't answer for a moment. She wanted to say yes, just to get Peter off of her back; but she also wanted to say no, just to actually be honest with someone. Even if that someone wasn't her best friend or a family member, but rather her crush. Part of her also wanted to snap at Peter, because obviously she wasn't okay, why would he ask that? But her mouth stayed shut.

"Ellie..." Peter whispered in an attempt to get her to say something when Eliza hadn't spoken a word. He reached out and pushed the hairs that had fallen in front of her face away, behind her ear, to see her expression better. "Talk to me. Please."

Those four words made the flood gates for Eliza to open up. Tears quickly streamed down her cheeks no matter how hard she tried to keep them from falling, sobs bubbled out of her lips and her shoulders started to shake. Eliza could only think that Felicity was right; the Korean girl had been right about her reaching her breaking point, and realizing Morgana had been spying on them and having no control over the matter was what made everything crumble.

For the second time in ten minutes, Peter pulled Eliza into his arms and held her.

"I'm scared, Peter," she admitted.

He frowned and rested his chin on the top of her head as she hugged him back. "That's okay," he told her. "That's okay. We're going to get that crystal and defeat her, alright? We'll win this, Ellie." With not knowing what else to stay, Peter stayed quiet after that and comforted a crying Eliza Stark the best he could.

***

A/NAs usual, this chapter is unedited just like the others so ignore any mistakes. And wow I'm shit at updating this story, I am so sorry for how much time it takes me to do so. Hopefully I'll get better at it, because I'm determined to finish this story. It'll be the first written one I do (not including any of my social media stories since they're fucking easy to finish). But finally Peter's and Eliza's relationship is progressing some, as shown last chapter and this one where she's willingly let Pete see her cry. Also action scenes will start back up soon, hopefully, meaning this might be nearing the end?? I'm not too sure yet, I need to plan everything out.

And that's all! Hope you liked this chapter! x

(Oh! I made a book for extras like social media au's and bonus chapter and crossovers, so check that out if you want? It's called Behind the Scenes!)
