SEVEN - SMOKE AND FLAMES
Ever since she woke up, the ache in her head wouldn't die down. Maybe part of the reason being that she was being too stubborn to rest – rushing to the library to do research on medieval times and ignoring her boss's protests – and that she hadn't eaten since lunch. It was past dark now. Although, she did steal Peter's burger and coke as she passed by him in the Stark Tower; she ate only a few bites before forgetting about it. But the pain of the headache didn't stop Eliza from reading book after book, and doing searches on the library's computers.
Sometimes the sharp, piercing pain would come back and for a split second the young Stark would get a snapshot of the vision she had seen from before. This caused her to stop what she was doing and hold her head in her hands until the pain subsided, until she could start working again; she was very thankful the library wasn't busy, because she would be getting weird looks from other people if it was. Eliza grunted as it happened once again, squeezing her eyes shut as the image of the blonde man in chained metal popped up again.
Eliza was about to go back to reading about the medieval times when there was a tap on her shoulder. She glanced behind her and quickly noticed the middle aged man, glasses on his head and a suit on his body. An eyebrow rose as they stared at each other for a second.
"Yes?" Eliza asked, not even flinching at the simple word sounding more than annoyed.
The man pursed his lips together at her attitude. He took in a breath before speaking, "We are about to close, miss. I suggest you check some books out if you plan on it."
Eliza nodded, turning back around as the man made a move to leave. She quickly gathered the books around that she decided was needed for researching and turned off the computer she had been using. Then, she walked up to the desk where the man was and used her library card to check out the books before stuffing them into her bag and leaving the building. By the time all of that was done, and as she walked down the stairs outside, another sharp pain occurred – this time an image that was completely different than the one she had seen on the subway.
It was a short vision of two men talking; all the Stark girl saw them mouth was 'war', everything was hard to determine from the way their mouths were moving. One man was the same blond haired, blue eyes guy that was on the horse with chained metal. Yet this time around, his clothes were fancy and a crown sat on his head. In front of him stood a darker skinned man in raggedy clothes, seeming annoyed with the other. And in a flash, everything was over. Eliza stumbled down the last few steps before just standing there, hand on her forehead as she was even more confused than ever.
"What the fuck," she mumbled in confusion, glancing around her.
Eliza's eyes landed in front of her, the brunette narrowing her eyes as she noticed the same black haired woman with pale skin form the subway staring straight at her from across the road. A smug smile took over the strange woman's features before stepping into the same type of portal Eliza can make to get from place to place. A scowl morphed onto Eliza's features as she realized who the person was, body becoming tense as anger filled her.
Her phone then dinged, and she pulled it out of her pocket. Eliza quickly saw the notification for the police app she add – actually, it was multiple notifications. Her eyes widened, jaw going slack. She hadn't heard the app notifying her in the library, and it honestly scared her some at seeing the five warnings staring back at her. At first she wasn't, though, at reading one where it said Spider-Man was at the scene. Then she saw where fire fighters and trucks were needed, along with one notification saying Spider-Man needed help. The most recent one was one saying the cause of the chaos was The Witch – otherwise known as the evil woman and sorceress Eliza was unluckily related to.
The college student locked her phone and created a portal to where her suit was. She threw her things on the ground and got dressed as quickly as possible. But her actions were cut short for a moment as her phone started ringing. She grabbed at the device and answered it without question.
"Hello?"
"Where the hell are you?" Felicity's voice sounded.
"Getting in the suit – how bad is it?" Eliza questioned, wincing as another sharp pain went through her skull.
Felicity gave a sound that quickly told the brunette it wasn't good. "Everything's on fire."
Eliza muttered a "dammit", shaking her head as she finally got everything on. Without saying anything else, she ended the call and made another portal to the scene of chaos and fire. The girl landed on her feet on the burning room of the retirement home. She looked down to the ground from the window she was next to, eyes on where elderly people were standing by ambulances, police and firemen looking up. Eliza bit her lip as a glare formed on her face and snapped her gaze towards the flame.
In the midst of the flames and smoke, the woman stood there with a cloak covering her – the usual black cloak that covered her features, something that Eliza was starting to hate. The woman had her head hung low, causing Eliza to look down on the ground. There laid Spider-Man on his stomach. Pieces of his suit were torn, some parts burnt from the flames. He was started to push himself up slowly as Eliza noticed him. But then the woman used her magic to fling Spider-Man upwards, up against a half burning door that lead to a staircase. She walked closer to him as she kept him there.
Eliza did the first thing she could of then – which was a ball of fire. It wasn't the best choice considering that flames were surrounding them slowly, but Eliza was trying her best to not have something happen to one of the city's vigilantes. Even if she didn't like him that much. But the fireball didn't even hit the woman. The older sorceress turned around in a split second and caught the burning ball in her hand. Underneath the hood of the cloak, and thanks to the light from the flames, Eliza could easily make out a smirk.
"Really terrible choice considering the circumstances," the woman chuckled.
Eliza's eyes narrowed. "Let him go," she spoke with a masked voice.
"Hm," she paused and made the fireball larger, "I don't think so... Maybe I'll throw this beauty at him?"
The brunette's eyes widened, and Spider-Man moved some to try and get out of his position. "That'll kill him, are you crazy?!"
"Well, that's my plan, darling! Less heroes – less obstacles!"
Oh, God, Peter can't die because of me, Eliza thought. Her eyes scanned over the evil sorceress and her jaw went slack. She then looked at the struggling Peter Parker masked in his vigilante clothes. Her eyes snapped back to her ancestor the instant her voice was heard again.
"Aw, do you care for your little side-kick?" Laughed the woman, "Touching..."
"Who are you?" Eliza asked, exasperated.
"Really? You don't know?" The ancestor laughed once again, amusement filling her at seeing Eliza not knowing who she was. "I really thought a daughter of Tony Stark would know by now."
Spider-Man's head, despite how weak he was, snapped up. Eliza could feel his eyes looking at her through the lenses of his mask. No one knew that the vigilante Vixen was related to Tony Stark; no one knew that about Eliza, either. Sure, there were speculations of Tony having kids – especially after Eliza and Killian started living with him – but nothing was finalized by the man. Nothing was confirmed by the kids, either. They all thought it was a good idea to keep it on the down-low. So, this woman knowing it startled Eliza. And it wasn't a shocker that it surprised Spider-Man as well.
The evil ancestor looked back and forth between the two vigilantes. Realization dawned on her then, "Oh, no one knew that?"
"Let Spider-Man go," Eliza demanded, ignoring the question.
The woman seemed to pout, "But I need him dead."
"Just-."
"So, no. I won't let him go."
And then, in a split second Eliza's ancestor was throwing the fireball in Spider-Man's direction. Eliza's eyes widened, knowing that she wouldn't be able to move fast enough to get to Peter in time. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as she just stood there, mind calculating how to get the vigilante from his stuck position against the burning door. Finally, her eyes landed on a beam that held part of the ceiling up. With her magic, Eliza used it to tear it from its place and throw it onto her ancestor. The woman was knocked out in an instant. Peter fell to the ground with before the fireball could get to him, and instead it landed on the door – the rest of it catching fire. Peter landed with a thud and a grunt into the ground. Eliza let out a relieved sigh and stepped over the woman and the beam.
She rushed o Peter's body and bent down, laying a hand on his shoulder. The contact caused a groaning Spider-Man to suddenly spaz, hand grabbing a hold of Eliza's wrist; his other hand ready to shoot web at her. Eliza held up her free hand in surprise.
"Whoa, hey, man. Relax," she said calmly at a spazzing Peter.
His chest heaved up and down as he stared at her. At the close proximity, Eliza could see the torn mask. It ran from the edge of his nose to the edge of his mouth, which she could also see was parted as he took in breaths. "Thanks," he finally muttered out.
Eliza stood back up as he let go of her wrist. She gave a tight-lipped smile. "Couldn't let a fellow hero go."
Spider-Man nodded and slowly stood up as well. Suddenly the roof started coming down in flames and debris. Both college students hunched in surprise and stepped farther to the side, away from the danger. Eliza then made a circle – a portal. A groan from the evil woman made her glance back for a split second. Quickly, she pushed Peter into the portal and jumped through it herself. The portal closed once she landed on the roof of Stark Industries. Peter rolled onto his side.
"Can't seem to stay on your feet," Eliza noticed, smirking slightly.
Spider-Man shook his head as he stood up. "No thanks to you and that...witch."
Vixen stared at Peter with a blank look. She didn't really care that she pushed him to the ground. "Oops," she said with little remorse. "Now get home, Peter." Eliza's eyes widened again, body becoming stiff as she realized what she had just said.
Spider-Man froze and snapped his head to the girl. "How do you know my name?" He questioned, voice filling with seriousness.
She shrugged, "Like she said – I'm a Stark. We know a lot of things."
"Hey, what about-?"
Before Peter could ask another question, or even finish the one he was starting to ask, Eliza made a portal and stepped through it. The circle vanished before he could rush to it so he could follow the girl. He simply stood there in confusion, questions filling his mind.

"You freakin' used his name?" Felicity questioned as they sat in a café.
It was early morning the next day. By the time she got home, it was a while after midnight. And then she couldn't sleep – mind going on and on about what she had seen in those visions, and how Peter Parker nearly died because of her. It wasn't until four when she finally fell asleep. But then, Felicity woke the girl up around eight, meaning she only got around four hours of sleep. The only way she got out of bed was the Korean trainer bribing her with coffee from Novak's Café. It was owned by a distant relative of hers, so Felicity was able to get them both free coffee and muffins.
Once she had gotten a decent amount of coffee in her system, Eliza had confessed everything to her friend – from the visions to the headaches to the near death experience Peter had – and it wasn't until then that Eliza realized how fast she could actually talk in under three minutes. Surprisingly, Felicity had kept up with everything. And now, as they were both on their third cup of caffeine, Fel was questioning Eliza.
"It... It just slipped out," Eliza ran a hand through her hair, which was damp from her morning shower. "Like, I used my magic to cover my voice, so he didn't recognize me. But now he knows I'm – Vixen, actually – is a," she paused and leaned forwards to Felicity, saying the words in a low voice, "a Stark."
Felicity shook her head. "The not recognizing you part is good. But the other thing isn't. It's supposed to be secret!"
"I know!"
"And you have no idea who this woman is?"
"Only that she's related to me and Killi."
"Could it be a sister to your mom?" Felicity asked.
Eliza shook her head no. She said, "My mom was an only child. It's a very old ancestor I guess."
Both girls sighed simultaneously. Felicity slouched and brought her drink to her lips, taking a long sip of it. Eliza gripped her cup tighter, brows furrowing as she thought. A few seconds later, she brought her own drink to mouth and took a sip of it. The Korean girl stared intently at the table in thought.
"This shouldn't be so hard," she muttered after minutes of silence. "Figuring out your family, I mean."
Eliza rolled her eyes. "I'm not that surprised, honestly. With how I and Killian are, and who our dad is. And then with a dead mom who I barely remember? Fel, I feel like this is only scratching he bare surface of everything."
"We're in for some deep shit if your feeling is right."
Eliza hummed in agreement. Another sharp pain moved through her head, making her face contort into pain. She moved her had up, rubbing her forehead. Felicity watched carefully as her friend lowly hissed in pain. "Actually, we might already be in a deep shit," Eliza said through the pain.
"Oh, what fun."
