Biana sighed. "Sophie, you are so lucky."

Biana and Sophie were in Sophie's room sitting on her bed. Biana was braiding Sophie's hair into  some intricate braid that Sophie would never understand how to do.

"Why? I mean, your the one with the awesome family — I mean, not that Grady and Edaline aren't awesome — and you have beautiful eyes and you're overall beautiful and-"

Biana laughed. " my family is NOT perfect. Remember, there's Alvar," Biana said, "besides, open your eyes, Sophie! You are beautiful too! And you're eyes are amazing. But that wasn't what I was talking about. I meant you are lucky because your graduating today!!"

"Yeah, but I don't want to. I would rather just go through the elite levels like you guys. I don't even know why the Council wanted me to graduate with Fitz and Keefe and their grade. I mean, what's the point?"

"The Council always has their reasons. But let's focus on the more IMPORTANT fact. Your hair! It's done and it is beautiful!"

Sophie hardly counted it as "more important," but she had to give Biana credit: the braid was beautiful.

"Thanks Biana! It looks gorgeous."

"Yep!! I know, I am a miracle worker."

Sophie rolled her eyes.

"You know it," Biana said. "Now, come on, time for your graduation dress!!"

"Yoopdy doo," Sophie said sarcastically.

Of course Della, Edaline, Biana, and Linh ALL insisted on coming along to pick her graduation dress. The rules say the dress has to be long enough to reach your ankles and the color must be a shade of blue or blue/green. In addition, the dress HAS to have a short train (which Sophie was NOT looking forward to) and the shoes had to be 1 inch heels that were made of some sort of gem. There were guidelines to the boys's dress too, but Sophie didn't bother to read them. However, Sophie was looking forward to seeing a certain someone in his fancy clothes. Of course, Sophie would never admit to her crush.

Sophie and the Personal Proffesional Extremely Giddy Group Who All Have Great Fashion Tips decided on an elegant dress for Sophie. The dress was a light blue with a beaded and laced upper part and had beautiful, wispy fabric flowing from the waist. The train started at the shoulders and looked duable. Maybe.

Sophie felt like a walking Cinderella, especially when they found diamond shoes.

True, the shoes weren't glass, but close enough for Sophie to feel like she was going to a ball and a fairy godmother had magical transformed her into some beautiful person.

After the dress and shoes were on, Biana went on to the makeup. Mascara was applied to her eyelashes and some gold eyeshadow was added. Sophie thought the eyeshadow was too bold, but Biana insisted they put it on because "it brang out the Gold flecks in her eyes".

Finally, Sophie was ready. Biana and Sophie walked downstairs. Well, Sophie clothes to Biana so she wouldn't trip. When Sophie was finally on steady ground she noticed Grady and Edaline staring at her.

"What?" Sophie said, suddenly conscious of herself.

"You look beautiful, Sophie," Edaline complimented, her eyes tearing up.

"Edaline and I are going to be cheering the loudest when they call your name," Grady added.

"Thanks so much, guys," Sophie said, taking a step toward her parents. She hugged them tightly.

"We are so proud of you," Grady whispered to Sophie.

"And we love you very much," Edaline added.

"I love you guys too. So much. But I don't want to be late," Sophie said pulling out of the hug.

"Of course you don't want to be late!" Biana said pulling her toward the leapmaster. "Come on!"

"Okay, okay! I am coming!"

"See you there, kiddo!" Grady called.

When Sophie and Biana arrived, Biana walked toward the seating and pointed the other direction.

"You go that way. Good luck! You'lol do great!"

"Thanks so much Biana." Sophie said hugging her friend. "Bye!"

"Bye!"

Sophie walked to where the graduates were supposed to meet. She, thankfully, didn't trip. She stood in a corner waiting. Looking down. What else was she supposed to do? She couldn't see Fitz or Keefe so this was her best bet: stay hidden and be ignorable.

Someone tapped her shoulder and Sophie spun around to see who it was. Bad idea. Spinning in big dresses...

Sophie stumbled into the arms of an impossibly hot boy with impossibly teal eyes.

"You okay?" Fitz asked.  He said this sincerely, but the look in his eye told Sophie he was sort of teasing. "I am going to guess you've been here 10 minutes and you've almost managed to drag Elwin from the audience."

"Well, I am fine now. And it is  my fault I can't walk in heels or a dress," Sophie replied smiling. Though she was trying to be casual, she was sure she was blushing more than anyone had ever blushed. Probably why Biana didn't put any blush on her.

"Okay, good. For a second I was afraid we were going to have an emergency."

"Emergency?" A new voice question. "I just got here and Foster's already got herself an emergency?"

The unmistakable nickname gave away the mysterious voice, and sure enough, when Sophie turned around, Keefe stood behind her.

"Good to see you too, Keefe," Sophie said.

"Aww... come on Foster. Don't give me the pouty face. You're sixteen. Besides, pouty face just makes you look adorable and not threatening."

"I hate you Keefe," Sophie said teasingly.

"Nope. Don't believe it. We all know you love me, Foster."

Sophie sighed. Keefe. One of a kind Keefe.

The kind of Keefe that could make her blush even when she had no feelings towards him.

Sophie looked down thinking about the graduation. So many embarrassing scenarios of Sophie falling or failing in front of everyone ran through her mind that she leaned up the wall to steady herself. Or, she thought it was the wall.

"Hey are you okay?" Fitz asked taking Sophie's hand to help keep her on her feet.

"Yeah," Sophie responded. Her face felt like it was a million degrees. How did she lean up against Fitz? If he hadn't figured out her secret, he certainly had to have a pretty good guess.

"Are you nervous about the graduation?" Fitz asked.

"Honestly? Yeah. I can't even turn without talking. How am I suppose to walk on and off stage without falling on my face?"

"Oh, you won't. Just admit it, Foster. You WILL fall. It's inevitable."

"Gee, Keefe," Fitz said, "I am sure your pep talk helped a ton."

Keefe shrugged. "Better to face the facts."

"You'll do fine, Sophie. You've have fought off the Neverseen. This is NOT the worst that can happen," Fitz assured her.

"You know," Keefe said, "there is an easy fix to this."

Fitz and Sophie looked at him expectantly.

"I could always hold Foster's hand."

"Shut up, Keefe," Sophie said with a massive eye roll.

Before Keefe could say something, a teacher told the graduating students to line up in alphabetical order.

"Bye Keefe, bye Fitz," Sophie said.

"Bye," they said in unison.

Because Fitz's last name started with a V, he was at the back of the line. Keefe was towards the end too. But Sophie...she was one of the first ten people to go recieve a scroll and give a short speech about what an honor graduating is.

The first seven people went by fast. Too fast. Even with their speeches, the time was probably only fifteen minutes.

"Sophie Foster," a voice from on stage called.

Sophie walked up the stairs leading to the stage and took a deep breath.

She could do this. She just had to believe in herself.

Then, she walked towards  Mr. Forkle — or Magnate Leto or whatever she was supposed to all him — and tried her best not to fall.
