Ashton pov 

I was so glad we were okay now. The both of us not talking  was killing me. The conversation we had last week was it for me. I couldn't focus after that day, I kept thinking about that. I could've killed a patient if the nurse didn't stop me. 

I did have to talk to a person I didn't want to see at all, the president of the hospital aka my brother-in-law aka the person who was the male version of Sarah aka Anuj. The patient was allergic to the medicine I was writing in his chart.  Fortunately, the nurse noticed it and talked to me. Unfortunately, someone told him. I just told him it was a mistake and that I was fine. 

As I got out of my train of thought, I noticed Sophie was asleep. She looked peaceful. I had looked into finding a therapist for her but they just didn't fit right with me. I felt like she wouldn't feel safe with them. 

I could tell Sophie was barely sleeping or eating and I did not know how to help. Being a doctor, I knew what to do but being her father I had no idea how to do it. The show was on so I decided to watch it. 

Then, Duke texted. 

Duke: Where are you ash?
Me: I'm sorry I just ran home, Sophie wasn't answering her texts and I got worried. 
Duke: Did you both talk?
Me: Yeah, It was a whole moment. 
Duke: You were both miserable, I'll come over after my shift 
Me: We'll be waiting. 

I smiled and just sat there like that for a good 2 hours when Duke came in. 

"She's asleep?" 

"She has been for about for about three hours now." 

"Good, she wasn't sleeping." 

He sat on the couch. 

"I'll tuck her in, and then we'll talk and I know you want to and she'll wake up." 

He nodded. I picked her up and tucked her in her bed.  She stirred. 

"Just putting you to bed don't worry." 

"Mhmm. I love you." 

"I love you too. Now, go back to sleep." 

I left her room and joined Duke on the couch. 

"So how did it go?" 

"I ran back home, I was soaked but as soon as I stepped in, she pulled me into a hug and I cried, she cried. A whole moment." 

"Finally, You were both miserable." 

"I don't believe you." 

"You don't? Sophie didn't sleep, I came over multiple nights and you have been on the verge of crying ever since you stopped talking." 

"You both are the only people I can call mine, and one of them wasn't talking to me." 

"I'm so glad we're still a part of each other's lives, I don't know how i'd do it without you." 

"Same here. After Sarah, I had no idea how I'd do it all but you were there. When mom passed, I was breaking and you were the only person I could break in front of." 

"You're strong Ash, You've gone through seriously a lot, With your parents, wife, Dr. William, everyone passing away."

"All three of us have dealt with it and together." 

"We have." 

I made Duke a sandwich. After that, he left and I went to bed, happy. Sophie and I were now talking, we were happy and I wouldn't let anyone or anything damage our relationship. We had a bond, which was special, kids rarely had that bond with a parent, especially their dads. 

Most of the time, If a parent died when a child was young, the kid and the parent wouldn't be close but we were different. We were us. 

Sarah passing was one of the most horrible things that could happen to me. She was my best friend, my wife, the mother of my child. She was everything to me and I would've died with her if it weren't for Sophie. To take care of her, was what made me go on. Thinking about her, I went to sleep. 

Sophie pov 

I woke up cause of a headache. The one, I was having daily, The one that would go away after I threw up. But today, I wasn't nauseous, I did not get the feeling that I was going to throw up. 

I opened my eyes and saw two huge black spots in front of them. I couldn't see, I could only see the sides and that was disappearing too slowly. 

Just then, all of a sudden. Black. I couldn't see. 

I turned on the lights in the room but nothing black. 

I turned on the flashlight of my phone and pointed it to my eye. Nothing. 

I walked to the restroom and washed them with water. Nothing. 

"DAD I CAN'T SEE."
