ASHTON POV

They took her in and I was scared.

What if it didn't work?

What if she was blind after the surgery?

I was brave in front of her but every surgery had a chance of failing, even an appendectomy.

"Hey, Ashton. I'm heading in now. Was she okay?"

"She was scared and Miles it'll work right?"

"I'll do my absolute best Ashton, I do this surgery a lot, it's like an appendectomy yeah? Just go to the waiting room or your office now don't stress. I got her and I got this."

Oh well, the comparison didn't help.

"Thanks"

"Of course, I'll see you in three hours."

And off he went.

I went to the waiting room to sit down only to find out it was empty. I sat down on one of the chairs but immediately got up. They were uncomfortable and I couldn't sit on them for 3 or more hours.

The room was empty, so I sat on the floor.

A while later, a man came in. He was quite old. He didn't work here so I don't know from where I knew him, but I knew him.

"Hey ah, I think I know you."

"You operated on my daughter, appendix."

"Oh yes, that's where I know you from."

"Why are you sitting on the floor?"

"It's comfortable. The chairs are uncomfortable."

"You're just stressed they are comfortable."

He took a seat on one of the chairs.

"Why are you here though?"

"My wife's having cataract surgery, what about you?"

"My daughter is having surgery, something is pressing on her nerve so she's not able to see."

"That's scary but it'll be okay."

"Thank you, Arthur, hopefully it will be. I wish you the best with your wife."

"I had it myself six months, it's not that big of a deal, and she'll be out in around forty-five minutes."

"I still have around three hours to go."

"They'll pass don't worry."

"It's weird being in the waiting room."

"I agree, it's hard."

We talked like that for an hour but then a nurse came to tell him his wife's surgery was done. He kept me distracted.

But now, I was alone. I couldn't go into the OR gallery. I couldn't go to my office cause working on charts right now in this state might kill someone.

Just then, A voice. A voice that is music to my ears. My favourite voice made its way to my ears.

"Hey, Ash."

"I miss you so much, Sar."

"I'm always here Ash."

"I know, just make sure Sophie's okay yeah?"

"She'll come out fine don't worry. I love you Ash."

"I love you meri jaan."

That too was the thing we avoided in our I love you's made it seem forced.

Then, My phone rang. It was Sophie's school.

"Hello, Am I speaking to Dr.Walker father of Sophie Walker?" The woman said.

"Yes, you are."

"Sir, I just wanted to tell you that your daughter isn't at school today."

"She's had to have emergency surgery so she's going to be off school for a while."

"That's fine sir, just please mail the doctor's note to the school's mail address."

"I will thank you."

"I hope she feels better soon"

"Thank you, ma'am."

She hung up. I spent the next 3 hours on that floor nobody going in or out. I was completely alone in silence. You could hear a pin drop in there.

Just then, I heard someone crying. A voice that was way too familiar. A voice that I hated to hear. Sophie crying.

I ran out and there she was in a wheelchair screaming and crying begging that it hurt.  Her eyes were bandaged up. I could barely see her face.

I ran up to her keeping her hands in mine and taught the ward boys to stop.

"Hey soph it's Dad you're okay. It's all fine alright. I'm right here."

"I love you Dad."

"I love you, Sophie."

I felt her hands' grip on mine loosen making me know she was now asleep. She wouldn't remember this. She was strongly drugged.

They started walking forward and I followed them to Sophie's room and with a bit of struggle she was on the bed.

I sat on the chair beside her bed.

"How's she?" Miles asked as he came in. He had a surgical cap on.

"She was crying when she came out. Is it supposed to hurt this much? Cause I know she's highly drugged." I was worried.

"Ashton relax, she's fine. She just had 4 needles poking in her eye. She's drugged but the pain is horrible. Tonight is going to be a bad night she's probably going to have after-effects of the anaesthesia, she was intubated so her throat's going to be sure. She's not gonna be able to see so she's going to be scared. But tomorrow when I remove the bandages it's going to be a big relief. She'll be able to see it's going to be a bit easier. She won't be able to keep her eyes open for more than 10 seconds at a time but she'll be okay. She's going to have 5 bad pain days after that it's just uncomfortable pain.

"The surgery went well?"

"It went off without a hitch."

"She's going to be fine?"

"Perfectly fine."

"Thank you."

"It's fine just she's going to be alright? I'll see you both when she wakes up."

"See ya."
