[EDITED AND REWRITTEN]

Sophie pov

I woke up the next morning with dad's coat over me. My arm hurt. I didn't know why. It was freezing. Dad was standing in front of me. His sleeve was rolled up in this cold weather, talking to a woman.

When dad stopped talking, she hugged dad and started crying. She was way older than him. Dad comforted her.

I stood up and went to Chloe's room. It was empty. I go out, dad was standing alone looking at a file.

"Dad, where is Chloe?" I asked him.

"Her parents came in the middle of the night said they needed a second opinion and then took her away. I couldn't do anything." He said.

"Why are you holding your arm?" He asked after a while of silence.

I immediately put it down. He then grabbed it. I winced in pain.

"Go to my office. I am coming." He said.

Even after working an entire night, he was not at all tired. I walked into his office and I saw a photo of me, mom and dad. It was when I was 3 we went to the zoo. I was on his shoulders my place till I was 7. It was framed.

I ran my finger over mom's face, thinking I could do it for real. Then dad came in reading a file. He kept the file down on his table.

"Hop on the table." He said.

"I can't. My arm hurts." I said.

He picked me up carefully and placed me on the table.

"Can you roll your sleeve up for me?" He asked, washing his hands.

I rolled my sleeve up. He put his gloves on. It looked gross. There was blood, skin was torn up here and there.

He sighed after seeing it. He came up to me and hugged me as I sobbed into him.

"It's going to be okay, I am going to fix it." He said.

"Yeah, sure," I said.

"I am going to use a needle to prevent infection and take x-rays after cleaning just to make sure that there isn't any bone damage cause by the looks of it, I think the fall was pretty bad."

"Dad, please no needles," I begged him he wouldn't do it.

"It will be quick, I promise." He said.

"Really?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'll be quick and gentle." I trusted him cause he never broke his promises. He was a man of his word. He prepared the needle.

"You ready?" He asked. I nodded. I wasn't ready, but I was going to get it so I just thought that I would get it over and done with.

"Close your eyes. It will be over soon."

"I am done. "He said after 10 seconds.

"That didn't hurt," I said, shocked I didn't even feel it go in.

"That's just my magic." He said, making me chuckle.

"Now I am going to clean it, it will sting and hurt." He said.

"So I should prepare for the worst?" I asked

"Yeah," he said.

Then he picked a cotton ball, dipped it in antiseptic, and began cleaning it slowly. It stung and hurt.

I flinched with every move he made. Soon it was over, and removed his gloves and put them in the bin in his room.

He picked his phone up from the desk.

"Dad, what are you doing?" I asked.

"X-ray machine." He said and started texting someone and then after a while, kept his phone on the desk.

"So why didn't you tell me about the fall?" He asked the question that I was dreading.

"I was scared that you would hurt me," I said.

"Sophie, I would never hurt you knowingly or unknowingly. Don't think that and I would let no one hurt you." He said.

"Thanks, Dad," I said.

Just then, a man stepped into the room with a machine. He set it up and then left.

"This is the X-ray machine. It'll just take photos, nothing to fear." He said, putting a jacket kinda thing on me.

"To protect from radiation." He said.

He set my arm and then pressed a button. After a short while, he said that isn't broken, just bruised, which I was thrilled about.

Then he sat on his chair and leaned back.

"What happened?" I ask.

"Nothing, just tired. I haven't slept in 2 days." He said.

"Yeah, can we go home?" I asked.

"Sure.". He said.

He picked his bag and other things.

"Sure". I asked. I got off that table careful of my arm.

We walked to his car. On the way, many people greeted him. He was the chief, and he was known worldwide. In fact, they both were cause they once performed a surgery that was next to impossible. We sat in and he started driving.

He stopped in front of a food palace

"Look, I wouldn't do this but I am exhausted and I can't cook and if I do I will add sugar instead of salt cause I haven't slept in 2 days." He said.

"I wouldn't eat that." I said as we got out of the car.

"Exactly". He said.

We got the food, and I held it in my lap as he drove back to home. We then ate it after he had changed out of his scrubs and we watched The late late show with James Corden.

After eating, he checked the band-aid on my arm. He didn't remove it. After checking, He did the dishes me just helping him as much as I could with my arm.

"Wanna go somewhere tomorrow?" He asked, drying his hands.

"Where?" I asked.

"Your choice," He said shrugging.

"You don't have to go to work tomorrow.?" I asked.

"Nope, I'm off for 2 days." He said.

"Good choice. Be ready by11 tomorrow." He said.

"You are off from school for tomorrow, right?" He asked.

"Yeah, dad it's Sunday," I said.

"Alright, don't be late." He said.

We both go up to our rooms.

"Good night, dad". I said, poking my head into his room.

He was working on his laptop. Supposedly checking his mail, I was in trouble.

"Come, sit here". He said patting the bed not looking towards me, his eyes focused on the screen.

"What are these grades on your maths test?" He asked as I sat on the bed. D, it was a D.

"I am sorry, dad." I said.

"Don't be sorry. I know you're trying your best and that's all that matters. Why didn't you tell me about it?" He asked.

"I was scared," I said, a few tears forming in my eyes.

"Why were you scared?" He asked, sighing.

"I don't know, dad," I said.

"What's the worst I have done to you ever?" He asked.

"Ground me, take my phone," I said.

"Yeah exactly, I know grades don't determine your intelligence, but try to get them up, yeah? I will not punish you this time. But, if you score badly again I might." He said.

"Thank you, dad," I said, and he pulled me into a hug.

"I am here if you need any help with everything doesn't matter whether it's school or life." He said.

"Thanks, dad. I love you," I said.

"I love you too. Now go to sleep. I am tired too." He said, shutting his laptop down.

"Goodnight." I said, getting off the bed.

"Sleep well and close the door." He said.

I walked out of his room and closed the door. I went to my room, changed my clothes, laid down on the bed, and slept.

Tomorrow was a new day.

End
