About Three weeks later, she was sitting in her office working when she saw Mr. Richards through her glass partition coming from the corner that leads to the CEO's office again for the third time that morning. She wondered what was going on again this time.

Mr. Richard and his team had re-prepared the financial statements he asked for since last week, hope he is not stressing him again with another unreasonable demand. She wanted to ask him but he looked apprehensive so she just faced her work; she will see him later.

In less than five minutes, again she saw him returning to the CEO's office with one of the ICT guys. 

At this point, she was dying to know what was going on. She is still not used to being in the dark, if it was Chief's era she would have been on top of this issue, whatever it is. 

urgh she misses her 'right hand man' privileges mehhn.

She even sent Ada a chat to inquire but even Ada didn't know anything, she did confirm it was 'something serious' though.

She tried to focus on her work but the ICT guy passed again this time he was jogging slightly. Now she was genuinely worried, the whole thing was distracting to her so she frosted her glass partition to make it opaque, then reminded herself that she does not have to know everything happening in the Company anymore. 

This is not her father's company, whatever happens she will still collect her salary by the end of the month.

30 minutes later, all 9 Heads of Department were invited for a meeting with the CEO.

He was already seated in the meeting room with Mr. Richards as everyone arrived.

After everyone settled down, Mr. Richards stood up and started the meeting. He started with an epistle about how the company was founded by a Hardworking and honest man, and how integrity is one of the core values of the Company and how they have discovered that some people have violated those values.

He projected a document on the screen with hundreds of transactions highlighted in red and kept on going round in circles with more epistles and parables, people in the room were getting anxious and impatient at this point. This Mr. Richards likes wasting time, he should get straight to the point jorr! She thought to herself.

Suddenly the CEO sat up and cut him off rudely; as usual, not surprisingly. Very rude human being.

"Mr. Bode,  Mr. Obi... your job contracts have been terminated with immediate effect, please handover your work and every single company asset in your possession to the Head of HR."

He then instructed the Head of Legal to do the necessary paperwork required for recovering all the hundreds of millions the duo have siphoned in the last 3 years.

His phone started ringing   "Please excuse me I have to take this" he said signaling Mr. Richards to continue the meeting as he stepped out of the meeting room coolly like he didn't just fire their Head of Accounting and Head of Procurement.

The silence in the room was deafening after he left, everyone's eyeballs had tripled in size, jaws were still the floor, confusion everywhere. E shock dem!

Mr. Bode? No, there has to be a mistake! The guy is a deeper life church member! She looked to Mr. Richards for answers but he just sighed helplessly. Confirming what they just heard.

**** The next day

"But, I don't think it is appropriate for him to fire them..... Just like that? They've been working here for over 10 years," Sofi said to Ada as she twirled her Singapore noodles at the office cafeteria during lunch.

Ada shot her a glare. "Those two should be in jail right now Sofi. We worked hard last year and did not get any bonus pay because the company didn't meet its profit target and it is ALL because of them! How can you even feel sorry for them?"

Actually the main reason the Company didn't make a lot of profits last year is because oil prices crashed but yeah the stealing also reduced their margins. God! They have mind o, how can two people steal that kind of money!

"I don't know, Bode is my guy Ada, he used to help me a lot when I first started here," Sofi said sadly, she was disappointed in him, As in...Chief is going is going to be crushed if he hears about this but part of her also feels bad for him, he has a family to take care of naw.

"Who sent him to steal? Babe, they did not steal 1million or 10 million o, they moved over 600 million! As far as I'm concerned they stole from all of us and you should be glad Mr. Madaki is getting rid of them" Ada said then sipped her orange juice angrily.

How did Mr. Richard miss this fraud? Everyone knows the Accounting department is a complete mess but Chief was not bothered too much about the gaps in the accounting department because the overpriced accounting software the Company acquired many years ago handles most of the accounting digitally.

Now this Mr. Madaki will have more excuse to treat them like thrash, he will start being suspicious of everyone here. No wonder he has been asking her for reports left right and center. Is he targeting me too? She has never done any shady business but this new extra scrutiny scared her.

What if she has made some mistakes or errors on some of the payments that she has approved in the past? is this how he will fire her too?.... But she cannot make a 600 Million naira error nah Mr. Bode and Mr. Obi didn't try TBH, they have mind o.

"You're right sha," Sofi said. "But it still doesn't change the fact that your Oga is low-key psychopathic. Did you see the smugness on his face when he fired them, he was so... cold, no emotion whatsoever not even anger. He is like a robot I'm sure he doesn't have friends" Sofi said.

"Stop now, he is not always like that he is perfectly normal" Ada smiled wickedly knowing that was a big fat lie.

Even Ada knows he is not normal. After the CSR issue they had that first day he asked her to prepare more reports on various activities from her department since she started heading it.

Moreover, she is not an idiot she could sense his subtle resentment towards her. It feels like he is actively looking for a reason to fire her too.

Ada just has a soft spot for him because he is handsome lol but, most importantly she defends him because he is nice to her and unlike Chief, he does most of his tasks by himself, he types whatever he is doing personally, sorts his emails and mails, he doesn't print much stuff. According to Ada, He does not even need a secretary or assistant he is very organized. 

She was just still holding that position for the optics. Anyway, she uses her newfound free time to binge watch movies on Netflix with free company Wi-Fi. She is even thinking of starting her part-time masters.

"Wait who told you he doesn't have friends, he has friends" Ada added after taking a long sip of her orange juice.

"How do you know that?"

"I heard him and a friend talking on the phone, they are actually meeting at one Aston club by 9pm tomorrow"

Sofi raised her brows, she could not hide her surprise, and Ada smirked proudly and added "See! He has friends and he has a social life! He even goes clubbing, just like you and all the people that like clubbing. Me I don't even know what you people see in that clubbing o" She rolled her eyes. "But yeah you get my point, the man is normal so free him abeg"

Aston club? Where is that place sef? Sofi has heard of it but is Aston not one of those old colonial building -ish clubs. It is one of those old coded boring places for businessmen. Yes, it is for rich people but no one goes there anymore, it is for Lagos boomers.

That next evening when Sofi got home from work, she started thinking about the Aston club gist she had on Mr. Madaki again.

What if he is going there to meet with a godfather! She thought to herself.

If he is going to that Grandpa club then maybe he is going there to meet a powerful person. All she needs to do is find out who this person is and she would know who is backing him right?

Las las, she decided to pop into the club that night. She was not going to stay there for long. She just needed to see the people he was hanging with or meeting with.

She just needs one name linked to him and that would be enough for her to her to dig up his whole history, background, connections, and network.

She called her best friend, Toyin to accompany her. Plus, she needs Toyin to drive her there because her night driving is shitty and her driver has closed for the day. Then she dressed up in a short bandage dress, wore heavy makeup, and donned a blonde wig for disguise.

Unfortunately, for them they were bounced at the entrance because they were women. At first the bouncer claimed it is a Member's only club but she saw some guys strolling in without any hindrance or access card.

She didn't protest she just called one of the bouncers aside, slipped him 5k but he frowned, so she slipped him a hundred dollar bill. She always keeps that in her purse when going out at night. The bouncer loosened up when he saw the dollars then looked around cautiously and told her quietly to get a man to escort them in.

Heyyyy so all these gist they have been reading online about restaurants and lounges discriminating against women is true. She has never experienced it personally because most of the clubs they frequent are either owned or managed by someone they know.

Toyin was pissed already but the bouncing didn't discourage Sofi, she didn't even take it personal because on a normal day who would even come to this ancestor club. She focused on her main objective, all she needs to do is find someone to take them through those doors by fire by force.

She started calling people. Most guys she called would first ask 'Ah ahn what are you going to do there?' or 'Who goes to Aston gentlemen's club?'

Toyin's friend, Osaze finally came because his house is very close to the location. He was even more pissed than Toyin about the way they were treated just because they are not men. He sha agreed to act as Toyin's man to get them through the door.

Finally, they entered the club and the second shocker hit her. The club was not a large open space it was divided into compartments with separate VIP lounges and rooms.

Then she noticed there were bleached out girls all over the place. The girls looked like high-class escorts, those are the ones they should be bouncing not them! Then on second thought she figured the girls were probably allowed to sell market on approval of the club's management, which is why they weren't allowing random girls in since they had their own in house babes.

Ewww so this is the kind of thing that Mr. Madaki is into. She is not surprised though, someone that came from wall street and London's investment Banking scene. Is this not their way? Orgies, drugs, alcohol. Why would anybody need a separate room in a club if it's not to hide the bad bad things they are doing.

She wanted to ask the host more questions to try to get more info on the guests present tonight but the host looked very tight lipped. Plus he was already looking at her with suspicion.

She just kuku gave up and joined Toyin at a general bar area where they had some small tables. Osaze was watching football by the counter.

Frustrated, she decided to drink all the wine she bought because she paid almost 100k for the drinks and Toyin is not drinking tonight because she is driving. Money must not go to waste.

To make matters worse her ex, Wale showed up too, to 'help her'. She did not ask him to come o, she only asked if he had a contact in the club, he now brought himself here imagine.

She rarely calls him sef, she was just in a very tight corner earlier that was why she called him because Just like her, he also knows a lot of people in Lagos and is highly connected. She just wanted him to give her a contact not bring his stupid ass face here.

As they all prepared to leave Wale offered to drop her home, she really didn't want to go with him but Toyin agreed because he claimed he was going towards Lekki too.

When he pulled up to her gate, he started talking, saying plenty nonsense. She was too drunk to remember all the crap he said but she was certain she heard him say he 'misses her' and he 'made a mistake'.

Hmmm, Lol she just ignored him then said. "Wale. Thank you. Goodnight. Greet your WIFE." She opened the car door and stepped out. He came out of the car too and ran to her side, trying to help her but she gathered all the sobriety left in her and stood up straight with her shoulder high.

"Don't worry I don't need your help Wale, I can walk" She said to him calmly, looking him in the eye.

Does this idiot think I'm going to be his mistress? is he a mad man! She thought to herself as she opened her apartment door. The Anger from hearing all that crap alone was enough to clear her eyes sef. 

Unlike Toyin she has higher alcohol tolerance so all the drunkenness from the club had waned out. 

She crashed on her bed feeling very ashamed of herself for even pulling this stunt in the first place and even calling Wale of all people on top. Now he will start thinking she still has feelings for him mtswwwww.

In addition, what if that Mr. Madaki had spotted and recognized her sef? He too would now think she is his fellow 'Aston club member'.

"This was a dumb move Sofi" She whispered to herself then stood up to go get more wine from the kitchen, this is the only way she can fall asleep tonight.
