You Get Used to It - Happy
Description: Tara's younger sister is Happy's old lady who doesn't take Opie's death too kindly.
"Hey baby," I said, smiling up at Happy as he walked in with Bobby and Juice.
"Hello my love," he said, sitting down with Abel and I and playing with Abel immediately. Seeing Happy how he is with my nephews made me hope for the day that we had kids of our own. I knew it wouldn't be easy but my big sister would always be there for me.
"You need anything?" I asked softly.
He just shook his head. I kissed his cheek before standing up.
"Need anything?" I asked looking between Bobby and Juice.
"No thank you sweetheart," Bobby said before pulling me into a gentle hug. I relaxed a little at the hug. Bobby'd just gotten out of prison yesterday and now Tig, Jax, Chibs, and Opie are all in County. It's been stressful on the club.
I walked by Juice as I headed to the kitchen. He just shook his head so I kept walking. I grabbed some water from the fridge and drank some before returning to the living room where my boyfriend was still happily playing with my nephew.
A few minutes after I sat down the phone rang and everyone tensed.
"Want me to get it?" Bobby asked. Tara shook her head as she handed Thomas to me and went to answer the phone.
It was Jax. He was okay. The guys would be out in the morning. Unfortunately, his call brought some bad news too. Opie was killed. I just stared at Bobby for a second, trying to keep my composure as he nodded in encouragement.
I'd been a few years behind Opie, Jax and my sister in school but Tara and I were always close, so I was constantly around them.
I just shook my head as Thomas started babbling again.
I leaned into Happy a little as Thomas took interest in his big brother. The boys started to play together a bit as Tara finished the phone call and returned to her seat.
"What do we do?" Juice asked.
"Wait for our President to get out," Bobby said. Happy nodded a little while looking up at Bobby.
Tara took Thomas and headed down the hall to bathe him. I stood up and followed her, figuring the guys could keep a safe eye on Abel.
"Tara, do you want me to stay?" I asked softly.
"No, you and Hap can head home. I'll see you at the clubhouse in the morning," she said.
"I'm more than willing to stay and help with the boys or whatever," I said.
"Just go." She was frustrated. I nodded and headed out to where Happy was now standing so he could keep an eye on us.
"Why don't you two head out?" Bobby suggested. "We've got her and the boys for the night."
Happy just nodded and interlaced our hands, leading me out to his bike. We got on and he sped home.
"Are you okay baby?" Happy asked once we were in my trailer. We had just headed straight for the bedroom and were now sitting across from one another.
"No," I said. He pulled me into his arms and kissed my head.
"I hate it," I said after a while. "I hate that this is what happens to all the people in our lives. I hate that some guy decided someone had to die and that someone was Opie. I hate that every time one of you winds up in prison I have to worry about your dumbasses not getting out. I ha-."
"Babe," he said. I moved so I could look at his face. His eyes were watering a little.
"We will get retaliation," he said. I nodded, knowing full well that Jax's best friends death was not going to go unpunished.
"Sorry," I said, looking at my crossed legs. "I just get so anxious and every bad thing that's ever happened spills out and I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize," he said. "I'm here for you, even if all you need is for me to listen to you ramble about how much you hate the club life."
"I don't hate it. It's done a lot of good for the world, and it brought us together," I said. He smiled a little at that. "But I do hate that it causes so much pain and suffering for all involved."
"You get used to it," he said softly.
"That's what scares me Hap," I said. "You get used to it. Then it's normal, and before long it's your whole life. Then you turn into Clay, killing people rather than facing the pain and suffering."
"Babe, do you know who you're talking to?" He asked. He'd long ago told me all about the shit he does for the club. I didn't think much of it because the club, for all the bad they put in the world, they do a lot of good too.
"You know what I'm saying," I said.
"I do baby," he said. "Let's get some rest. Been a long day."
"I love you Happy," I said.
"I love you too baby."
