Without You By My Side - Chibs

Description: Michael, your and Chibs son, gets into a fight with Abel Teller, and when you try talking to Tara things go south.

I heard yells before they turned into chants of fight. I spun around on my heel quickly, immediately returning to the group of kids I'd left under the eye of the prospect. Sure enough, my five year old son was wailing on Abel Teller.

"Monty," I said, picking him up and separating the two as Jax grabbed onto Abel, immediately screaming at him.

"Michael James Telford," I said, sitting him down on the picnic table bench. "You are not allowed to fight. You are going to sit here for five minutes and then we can talk about it."

I grabbed my phone and set a timer. I moved to stand about twenty feet away. Michael knew better than to get into fights. I allowed him to train in boxing because all of the guys in the MC do it but over my dead body was my son going to think it was okay to go around picking fights.

Jax was still yelling at Abel for getting into a fight when Chibs and Tig returned.

"Monty," Chibs said. Monty was Michael's nickname, having been derived from the way we would call him MT. It sounded too much like empty so we decided on Monty.

"Ah," I cut him off earning both of their attentions. "He's in timeout."

Chibs looked a little sad but walked over to me. I swear Monty is his best friend sometimes.

"Got something to do with that?" He asked looking over at Jax who was walking away from a crying Abel .

"Monty and Abel got into a fight. I put Monty in timeout and told him we would talk when his five minutes were up."

Chibs nodded a little as the timer went off. I walked over to Monty and squatted in front of him.

"Are you ready to talk about it?" I asked. He nodded a little as he sniffled.

"Why'd you do it?" Chibs asked.

"He was being mean to me," Monty said.

"About what?" I asked. I swear to god if that kid was making fun of Monty's dialect, I'd step into a ring with Jax.

"The way I talk," Monty said.

"Eh boy, you know it's just cause I'm your dad and she's your mum," Chibs said. It was true. Chibs accent was so thick that Monty was picking it up even here in Charming.

"I know but it hurt my feelings," he said.

"And did you try using your words?" I asked. He nodded a little.

"Okay, so in the future what do you think you should do instead of getting into a fight?" I asked.

"Get you or Daddy," he said.

"Right, you can get one of us and we'll talk things out," I said. "Now, no more fights, okay?"

"Okay," he said.

"One more thing," I said.

"Hugs." He said.

"After hugs," I said. I pulled Monty into a hug.

"You need to go apologize to Abel," I said. "I'll go with you."

He nodded and took my hand and we walked over to Abel.

"I'm sorry for getting into a fight with you," Monty said after a second.

"I'm sorry too," Abel said. Monty hid behind my leg a bit so I picked him up and sat him on my hip, returning to Chibs. Chibs took Monty from my arms.

"I wanted to give you the good news myself," Chibs said. "We're going home."

We'd been on lockdown for a few days and I think that's part of Monty's behavior today. He isn't a super social kid, because of the dialect he has. Chibs and I have done everything we can think of from only American television and movies to literally taking him to a speech pathologist. She's the one who told us it was just a Irish meets American accent.

"Yay!" Monty cheered. "Can we have a movie night?"

"I think that could be arranged," I said. "Why don't you and Daddy go pack our stuff up to go home and I'm going to go talk to Jax and Tara really quick?" I kissed Monty on the head and headed off in the direction of the couple.

"Now's not a great time," Jax said.

"I understand but I will be brief," I said.

"What?" Tara asked harshly.

"I'd appreciate it if you could talk to Abel," I said. "Monty has it hard enough because of his voice. He shouldn't have to deal with it here too."

"You really just came over here to accuse my son of attacking yours?" Tara asked.

"No, but maybe you could try having a conversation with him about the fact that Monty having a unique accent doesn't mean he's weird," I said.

"I'm a doctor. I think I can handle parenting my kids to not bully others," she said.

"Obviously you can't if our sons got-." I didn't get to finish as she punched me. I hit her twice and she grabbed something, hitting the bridge of my nose with it.

"Tara what the hell?" Jax asked as he finally stepped in.

"Now I see where he gets it," I said. I walked away and sat down as Chibs came running out, having most likely heard the fighting.

"Let me see it lass," Chibs said, placing his hands on either side of my face. There was a good amount of blood streaming from my already bruising nose.

"It's broke ain't it," I said.

"Yeah, she did a number," he said. "You wanna go to the hospital?"

"Can you fix it?" I asked.

"It looks like it should set fine," he said. Monty came running up to us.

"Mommy what happened?" He asked as Chibs continued to look at my face.

"Mommy got into a fight," Chibs said.

"Mommy needs a timeout," Monty said. I chuckled at him.

"Nah Mommy needs a hospital," Chibs said. He picked Monty up and helped me stand to head over to the car that they had already packed up.

"Tig, I'll be back for the bike," Chibs yelled as we got into the car.

A few hours later, we were finally home. Tara had bruised my nose quite a bit and broke it in one place but the doctor said that it would heal up on its own.

Chibs and Monty ended up making pizzas for dinner as I watched and rested a bit. Then we all curled up together on the couch and watched Zootopia. Monty loves it, probably because of the overall theme of acceptance.

When it was over, Monty had fallen asleep, so Chibs carried him to bed. I headed up to Chibs and I's room, sitting on the bed as I waited for him to appear.

"You were great today. Best mom I've ever seen," Chibs said, causing me to smile softly.

"I love you Chibs," I said. "I wouldn't be half the mom I am without you by my side."

"I love you too baby," he said. "Seeing you with him made me really want another or two or three."

"How about we start with one more and see how that goes? But not tonight. Tonight I need held and sleep."

He chuckled at me. "Okay lass. Come 'ere," he said, pulling me into his arms so we could lay down together.
