This Family Thing - Happy
Description: Happy's old lady is Nero's daughter and they tell him he's about to be a grandpa again.
"Isabel," I chided softly. She was running amuck and smacked right into Nero.
"Hey there mija," Nero said. He picked her up and she started laughing as he spoke to her in Spanish.
"Isabel, can you go check on your brother?" I asked. She was four so while she couldn't really care for the two year old, she would go watch him nap for a long while. That would buy me enough time to talk to my father.
"Are you sure you can't come to the farm mija?" He asked. "Me, your brother, Wendy, the boys."
"We'll visit Papi," I said. "But Happy is here and the club is here."
"Mija," he said more sternly. "After everything that Jax and his family went through."
"Things will get better," I said. I looked up from the food I was making and he just shook his head as he started to help me.
A few minutes later there were cries from Luis' room.
"I got it," my father said as he walked off. I finished up what I was working on and went to follow him when the door opened.
"Just me," Happy yelled as he kicked his boots off. Isabel came running down the hall to see her father as my dad walked out with Luis in his arms.
"Izzy," Happy said as he picked her up. He nodded politely to my father as Isabel rambled a million miles a minute.
Luis looked at me with tears in his eyes and my heart broke. I took him into my arms and he curled into my chest.
"What's wrong mijo?" I asked softly.
He mumbled the Spanish word for sharks and I just shook my head.
"He okay?" Happy asked softly as he sat Isabel down and walked over to me and Luis.
I nodded a little. "Just some nightmares."
He nodded and kissed my lips quickly before placing his hand on Luis' head.
My father and husband started a conversation so I sat the kids down in front of the TV and finished as quickly as I could.
"Just need sometime to cook," I said as I walked up to my father and husband.
"I've gotta get goin," my dad said. "Lucious is coming for dinner tonight to meet Abel and Thomas."
"First, there's something you should hear in person but keep it DL for a while," I said. Happy grabbed my hand gently.
"Everything's okay?"
"Yeah, perfect, actually," I said.
"You're going to be a abuelo again," Happy said and my fathers jaw dropped. He pulled us into a tight hug.
"I'm so happy for you both," he said, tears forming in his eyes.
He hugged us a few more times before he headed out.
"How's my beautiful wife today?" Happy asked as I checked on dinner.
"So much better since you're home," I said.
He just nodded and I could tell something was wrong.
"Happy," I said. He looked up at me and I kissed his lips quickly. "What's going on?"
"I just wish Ma had gotten to see the kids. She would've loved being a grandma," he said. I nodded in understanding.
"And she's still watching over them," I said. "Day and night. They have the best guardian angels: their abuelas."
"I know, just telling your dad made it hit home again," he said. I nodded again and moved to sit in his lap. I kissed him quickly.
"Dinner is done. Why don't you grab the kids and we can eat and tell them stories about their abuela?" I suggested.
"I love you," he said softly.
"I love you too Happy."
He got the kids washed up for dinner as I made everyone their plates and made sure everyone had everything they needed.
Luis was still shaken up from his nightmare so he crawled into Happy's lap about halfway through dinner.
The kids were loving hearing about their abuelas and Tias and everyone else that I could remember stories about. Happy told them about his Ma and Tia and then turned to stories about his brothers because they were the only other family he ever had.
Laying in bed later that night, I was happier than I'd been in a long time.
"Baby," I said after a while. "Is three enough?"
"Let's see how this one turns out before we decide," he said. "I love this family thing."
"I do too," I said, leaning over to kiss him gently.
