Real Again Part 2 - Quinn
We were about half way home when we stopped at a gas station. The guys needed to fuel up and I had to pee. I walked inside slowly and beelined for the bathrooms. When I walked out a few minutes later, I noticed the number of men in the building and I started to panic. Luckily Quinn had headed inside in search of me.
"Quinn," I said softly.
"You okay?"
I shook my head no and he carried me out to the van.
"I wanted a snack," I said softly.
"Your brother's already on it."
I nodded and leaned on his shoulder as he stood next to me where the van door was open.
"Hey, don't go anywhere without a patch for a while. I don't want you panicking again and not having anyone with you," he said. "And patches will protect you."
"I know Quinn," I said.
"My name's actually Rane," he said. "Last name's Quinn so that's what the guys have always called me."
"Do you prefer Rane?" I asked.
"From you, I prefer whatever you like best," he said.
"Rane is pretty. I like it," I said.
He chuckled a little that I called his name pretty.
Shortly after my older brother walked out with a bag of snack foods and drinks he walked up and handed them to me.
"All your favorites," he said.
"Thanks Jax," I said. He kissed my forehead and stood where Rane had been a minute prior.
"What happened in there Bug?"
"Panicked," I said. "Too many men and not enough safety I think. Rane already told me not to go anywhere without a patch for a while so don't worry."
"I love you Bug. I'm going to worry," he said.
"Is everyone going to call me Bug so much it sticks again?" I asked. Jax chuckled a little and nodded.
"It's you're fault for carrying that damn ladybug blanket everywhere with you for ten years," he said.
"It was seven," I corrected him.
"The one that was on your bed last night?" Rane asked. Of course I'd kept my emotional security blanket from my youth and taken it to college with me. I needed comfort last night so I had that one out along with the SAMCRO one I'd been using.
I nodded and he smiled a little as Clay and Tig walked over.
"You ready to head out again?" My dad asked. I nodded and grabbed the Mountain Dew and Slim Jim from my bag of snacks.
I opened it quickly and Jax caught my hands, taking the first bite and smirking as he walked away.
"You're an ass," I yelled at him as he got on his bike. Rane was laughing as us as he shut the van door for me.
"I'll se ya there," he said, kissing my forehead through the open window.
I nodded and took a bite of my Slim Jim.
"You doing okay baby?" Tig asked. I nodded and he smiled at me as he started the van and followed the guys out of the parking lot. As we drove home Tig and I spent the time talking and joking around.
"Quinn's really taken a liking to you," Tig said.
"Huh?"
"Nomads have been talking about disbanding for a while and he's been bouncing charters trying to find a landing place. He's thinking Charming is it."
"That ain't got shit to do with me," I said. "I'd be trying to land mother charter too. So would you."
"Quinn don't give a fuck about mother charter," he said. I rolled my eyes and changed the subject, not wanting to argue with my uncle any longer.
When we arrived back in Charming, my mother was waiting for me the second we pulled onto the lot. The prospects were under strict orders to take the van to my parents house and unload it into my bedroom. Mom and I would unpack later.
"Are you doing okay baby?"
"I'll be okay, yeah," I said. She nodded and hugged me tightly.
"Quinn rode in with ya?"
I nodded. "Guess he's thinking of patching here when nomads disband."
"Wouldn't have anything to do with you would it?"
"No," I said, but contrary to my point he walked over to check on me.
"You doing okay?"
I nodded and he kissed my head before telling me that if I needed anything to let him know.
"Would you like to change your answer?" My mother asked, but luckily my father and brother swooped in and stole the attention.
"You doing okay after the ride Bug?" Clay asked.
"Yeah Dad. I'm doing okay," I said. "Let me know when Happy gets in. I need to thank him."
He nodded. Jax hugged my shoulders before kissing my temple.
"Can we go sit down and talk? I'm in quite a bit of pain," I said. My mother agreed and led me inside before going to make me some tea. I sat on the couch waiting for her when Quinn walked in. They guys were all headed in to church but he didn't follow.
"What's this about?"
"Nomads are disbanding. I'm the last to need a landing place," Quinn said.
"So Redwood it is?"
He nodded and sat next to me. I leaned into his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around me.
"Gemma's getting a dorm set up for me. If you need to rest you're more than welcome," he said. I nodded and thanked him.
"Rane," I said softly after a minute. He hummed a little in response. "Everyone keeps saying you're patching Redwood because of me."
"You're just a happy side effect," he said, kissing my temple. "Bobby asked me to patch here a while ago. He made the trip to Indian Hills and asked me personally to patch here. I almost patched Indian Hills but I got that call last night. I was about to head to Charming anyways."
"Thanks Rane," I said. He just nodded as my mother handed me a mug of tea. She walked away, apparently thinking we needed some space still.
"I want to help you through this," he said. "Whatever that means to you. And maybe, one day, when you're getting further from this trauma, you can get my crow. For now, whatever you need from me, I'm here."
"Thank you Rane," I said. "Means a lot."
He kissed my temple as Chibs opened the church doors and yelled for him.
"Go get your Redwood patches baby. I'll be right here when you're done," I said. I kissed his cheek and he stood up, jogging to the church. I heard cheers from inside and the guys came out, doing a round of shots for their newest brother.
He sat down next to me with a couple of shots of Fireball. "I hear it's your preference."
I nodded and he handed me one. We did the shot together.
"Where are your patches?" I asked. He held them out to me. "Ma's got a sewing kit. Get it and I'll get this taken care of."
"You aren't my old lady yet. I can handle it," he said.
"I know. I want to. Think of it as a thank you," I said. He just nodded and kissed my head before walking off. He returned with the kit a few minutes later and I started pulling the seams out of his Nomad patches. The one I had the hardest time pulling was his president's patch. It didn't feel right he was going from leader to nothing, but that was just how it worked.
When I finished it up, I held it up to him and he slid it on, eliciting more cheers and another round of celebratory shots.
