Ready or Not - Juice POV

Requested by: anns-writing

This is in Juice's POV.

Description: Juice has a kid but didn't know about him until someone from CFS showed up at the clubhouse one day. When his parenting is questioned the whole club shows up to support him.

"Juice there's someone here for you," Tig said as I looked away from the screens in front of me for the first time in probably three hours. I nodded and stood up.

"I'm Juice Ortiz," I said as I walked outside. The woman turned to me, holding a child. He couldn't have been more than a year.

"I am Amy Keller," she said. "I'm with the Department of Child and Family Services. This little guy is Levi. You were listed on the birth certificate as his father."

"Father?" I asked. She nodded. "Who's the mother?"

"Alison Martin," she said. "She was killed in a car accident yesterday."

I nodded, remembering my short relationship with Ali.

"Can I?" I asked, motioning to the boy.

"His name is Levi Carlos Ortiz," she said. "He just turned one on August 1."

He's a literally not even 13 months yet and already lost his mother.

"I don't know the first thing about kids beyond when I help out with Jax's boys," I admitted.

"Well step one is buying a car," she said. "I have a car seat and some clothes and blankets for him."

"Yeah thanks," I said, bouncing Levi as he babbled a little. "I'll borrow a rental for now."

She nodded and we sat down to fill out some paperwork.

"Who's this little cutie?" Gemma asked, walking up as I worked on some papers for CFS.

"This is Levi, my son," I said.

"I'll go get ya some basics from Jax's place. Thomas has outgrown most his stuff anyway," she said. I nodded and thanked her.

"Oh Gem," I said. "Can I borrow a rental?"

She nodded and kissed Levi's head before heading off. Before too long the paperwork was done and she left.

"Let's go meet your uncles," I said, carrying Levi into the clubhouse.

"Juicey," Tig said. "Where the hell did you get a kid?"

"I'm only explaining this once," I said. "Everyone here?" He nodded. I knew we had church tonight.

"Jax, can we call church early?" I asked. I bounced Levi a little.

"Yeah," he said and rounded everyone up for church.

I carried Levi in and introduced him to everyone and explained what happened. They all agreed to help me out where I needed it.

"Brooke's got my boys," Jax said. I nodded and took Levi out to Brooke.

Over the next few weeks, Levi and I bonded a lot. I was able to get used to raising him alone and Brooke babysat him while I was doing club stuff. Jax helped me a lot, encouraging me when I thought I wasn't doing enough as a dad.

"We're looking for Juan Ortiz," someone said. I was feeding Levi lunch while I took my lunch break from TM. I stood up and took Levi over to Gemma who willing took him.

"I'm Juice Ortiz," I said. I recognized them instantly. Ali's parents. They would've loved me if I wasn't in the club. That's what ultimately led to our breakup.

"We're suing you for custody of our grandson," they said.

"Look," I said, "I wasn't aware you wanted anything to do with Levi. I'm more than willing to work out visitation and what not so you can see him and tell him about his Mom. I want him to grow up knowing about her."

"This is because we don't think you're a fit father," the man said.

"We'll see you in court," the woman said. They turned and stormed off.

"What was that about baby?" Gemma asked as I read over the papers while walking towards her.

"Ali's parents are suing me for custody," I said. The guys were all standing around on their lunch breaks too.

"They ain't gonna take him away," Chibs said.

"I have a record," I reminded them.

"Look, we'll get Rosen to represent you. Unser and Tara will testify to your character and parenting," Jax said. I sat the papers down and took Levi back from Gemma.

A doctor and a former sheriff would look good for me.

"Thanks guys," I said. "I just got him. I can't lose him now."

"Already sounding like a dad," Gemma said. I nodded as she hugged me.

"I'll go call Rosen for ya," she said. I nodded and went back to eating while watching over Levi.

A week later we had Family Court. Rosen and I had a solid case prepared. I'd finally gotten a car of my own and Levi had the perfect bedroom set up. Gemma finally finished baby proofing the house for me. Everything was in order within a day of the papers being served so the state could do an inspection.

All of the guys were coming to support me as were most of the old ladies. They'd gotten used to having the little guy around too.

I walked into the court house dressed in the only suit I own with no kutte. I felt out of place without my leather. The guys were all wearing their kuttes, but I couldn't. I needed to prove I was a fit father for my son and the MC symbols would apparently detract from that.

"Juice," Rosen said as I was bouncing Levi. It was more for my nerves than his.

I shifted a little and shook his hand.

"You ready?" He asked. I nodded and we headed into the court room. I sat down at the table, putting Levi's bag down on one of the benches behind us.

"Is someone coming who can hold him?" Rosen asked. As if on cue Jax and Tara led the club into the room.

"Yeah," I said, smiling at my family.

"Here," Tara said, taking Levi and his diaper bag.

The court appearance was relatively short. Because I was willing to allow them visitation and I am his biological father I got to keep Levi in my house. I broke down crying when the judge delivered his ruling.

"I can see how much you care about your son, Mr. Ortiz," the judge said. "I know you would've been there for him had you known he existed. And there is a reason you were listed on the birth certificate. Alison clearly trusted you. I'm granting you full custody."

I cried as I thanked him. The second I was allowed to, I turned and took Levi from Tara. He was happy as could be.

"The second something goes wrong with him you'll lose him," Ali's mother said.

"Here's my phone number," I said, handing her a slip of paper. "In case you want to see him."

She got all huffy and stormed out.

"Let's go celebrate," Jax said.

"It's nine am," Tara responded.

"Fine let's go plan a celebration," Jax said. I didn't care what went down next. I had my son still and that was all that mattered.
