It Works - Happy
Description: Happy's old lady writes murder mystery novels and he is more than willing to make sure her written methods are plausible. While he's checking things out for her one night, she spends that time in the clubhouse playing pool against his brothers.
"Hey, Hap," I called softly. I knew he'd hear me. A few seconds later he appeared in the doorway of the clubhouse kitchen. He had a smirk on his lips and a toothpick between his teeth.
"Yes little girl," he said.
"Will you read this and tell me if it is plausible?" I asked softly. I held up my laptop, the last murder scene I wrote still open on the page. He took it and sat it down on the counter. He stood behind me and read it as he rubbed my shoulders.
"It should," he said. "I'll let you know for sure in a few hours. Take a break and go kick Tig's ass at pool."
I nodded and closed my laptop. He took it from my hands and headed off. I didn't ask questions. I knew what he did for the club and slightly exploited that for my writing. I never asked too many questions though.
I walked out to the bar and Chibs handed me a beer.
"Where's Killer headed off to baby doll?" Tig asked.
"Check on some things for my writing," I said.
"And what is it you're writing this time?" Chibs asked. The two followed me to the pool table where I grabbed two cues and handed one to Tig. He racked as I started explaining.
"It's this book about a person with DID and she has one alter that's a serial killer. So each chapter is a switch and long chapters are longer switches. There's three or four alters right now but I'm thinking about adding another one."
Tig motioned for me to break so I did. Nothing went in so he took a shot as I took a drink of my beer.
He pocketed one and took another shot.
"So our Killah is makin sure your killer is legit?" Tig asked.
"Yeah sorta," I said. "I've written a couple different books with murders in them and as Hap and I got closer I would ask him if he thought they were plausible. Some he knew for certain and some he asked for a few more days on."
Chibs scoffed a little as I took my third shot in a row. The 7 ball bounced off the side of the pocket and didn't sink so it was Tig's turn again.
TO came in with Rat, just getting back from something.
"Is Hap around?" TO asked.
"He'll be back eventually," Tig said. He missed his shot so I was up again. I sunk two in a row and he was about to lose. I sunk a third as Tig groaned and Chibs laughed.
"Something we can help ya with?" Chibs asked.
"Something's up with my bike. I could use a second set of eyes. It can wait til morning," TO said. Happy is one of if not the best mechanic at TM when it comes to Harleys.
Tig took one shot and missed.
I was lining my shot up when Tig used one last ditch effort to win.
"Call your pocket," he said. All I had to do was make the 8 ball and I won.
I pointed with the cue without looking at him. I sunk the shot and he grunted in annoyance.
"Use your words ya big baby," I said. "One man communicating in grunts is enough for any girl."
"Come on, why did you have to kick my ass?" He complained. I laughed as I drank some more of my beer.
"Want a rematch?" I asked.
"I called winner love," Chibs said. I nodded and he racked.
"Ladies first," he said. Of course he'd want me to go first so if he won, Tig couldn't complain that it was cause I'd gone first against him.
"I'll play this winner," TO said. I nodded before breaking. This time I knocked in one of the stripes and hit two more in before missing a shot.
We'd all gathered around the pool table watching the game. Chibs made a few in before he missed.
"Rat, will you grab me another beer?" I asked. Chibs had backed away from the table and I walked around deciding where to shoot next.
I ended up beating Chibs. TO was still new and had to prove something so he placed a twenty down on the end of the pool table. I searched my pockets for a twenty but didn't have one.
Luckily Hap had left his wallet behind the bar. I grabbed a twenty and sat it down on TO's.
"You can break," I said sweetly, leaning against the high top table behind me as I took a drink.
He did. I took a turn that turned into four shots.
He was groaning in annoyance when a bike pulled onto the lot. No one said anything so I figured it was Hap.
TO sunk one and it was my turn again. I made two more in before Happy walked in. He sat my laptop down on the bar and grabbed a beer before joining us around the table. I sunk one more before missing and going to stand by him.
"It works," he said.
"Thanks baby," I said. I kissed his lips as TO groaned in annoyance.
"Not too gorey though," he said.
"That was the goal. It's towards the end when the alters are starting to reintegrate so she's more aware of it," I said. I walked up to the table, surveying my options. I needed to sink the 8.
"Far right," I said, pointing towards the pocket. TO nodded so I took the shot and sunk it.
"Nice shot," Happy said as I grabbed the money.
"Here, this is yours," I said, handing his twenty back to him and pocketing the twenty I'd made. "You left your wallet behind the bar and I had to throw some in."
He shook his head a little.
"Where did you get good at this?" TO asked.
"Hap and I may have made some extra money in Tacoma bars hustling pool games," I said. I smiled at the memories.
"Hey Rat, you want a turn?" I asked.
"No, I'm going to call it a night," he said. The rest of the guys agreed and before long Hap and I were headed home.
"I hate when I have to wait for a good fuck after a kill," he mumbled, picking me up the second we were off his bike.
I giggled some. "I know baby. Thank you again."
"Anything for you little girl," he said.
