Except Me Part 2 - Jax
I moaned slightly at the pain I was in as I opened my eyes a little. I swallowed harshly at my dry throat and blinked a little. I glanced around the room. Piney and Mary were sitting in chairs on either side of me. I tried to move my fingers and toes and it was painful but it happened.
"Ma, Piney," I said. I hadn't called him Dad in years. He preferred Piney after mom took his kids away from him.
"Baby," my mother said instantly fretting as Piney yelled for the prospect outside the door.
"Ma," I said. "Can I get some water?"
"Yeah of course," she said. A doctor came in then and started to talk to me, telling me I needed to rest and blah blah blah.
I didn't listen to most of it. I was too worried about my bike and how fucking expensive it was going to be to repair. My father brought some water and a straw over to me and helped me get a drink.
"Thanks Dad," I said softly. He smiled at the name. I relaxed and closed my eyes a little.
"Rest baby," he said.
"Where's Ope?"
"He's with Jax. They're taking care of something," Piney said. I opened my eyes a little in question and he just shook his head.
"The bastard that did this to me?" I asked. He nodded a little.
"You seen my bike yet?" I asked. He shook his head no.
"You were almost killed and you're only concerned with your bike?" My mother asked.
"Yeah shits expensive," I said.
"So are medical bills," she said. I rolled my eyes at her and closed them again.
"I'd like to rest now. If Opie comes he may wake me," I said. I closed my eyes and fell back asleep.
When I next woke up, Opie was sitting next to me and he looked half dead.
"How are my niece and nephew?" I asked.
"Growing like weeds but you don't need to worry about them," he said.
"Yes I do," I said. He just shook his head. "Look I got yelled at for asking about damage to my bike."
"Probably be cheaper to buy a new one," he said.
I groaned in annoyance. "Fuck that bad?"
He nodded. A nurse walked in then carrying a tray.
"Just bringing dinner by," she said. "I can help you out or let you be."
"Thanks," I said. "I think I can manage feeding myself. If not my doting mother isn't far I'm sure."
She nodded and walked out once the tray was securely in front of me.
I grabbed the spoon cautiously and opened the applesauce in front of me. I started to eat slowly as Opie watched me carefully.
"I'm fine Ope," I said.
"It's been a week," he said.
"What?"
"Since the accident," he said.
"No way," I said.
"You were in a coma five days," he said. "You woke up once yesterday morning and apparently made mom mad. Then just now you woke up again."
"It was a lot. My body needed to rest and heal but I'm fine I promise."
"Jax isn't," he said.
"What?"
"Jax isn't okay. He's worried about you. Won't come see you though. He can't bear to see anyone hospitalized anymore, especially not in comas. Gemma told him that you said you still love him."
I swallowed harshly as I looked up at Opie.
"I do," I said. I shook my head a little and tried to relax. I didn't feel like eating anymore.
"I didn't mean to upset you," Opie said. I nodded.
"I know," I said. I tried to eat a little more but I couldn't stomach it. Luckily I didn't throw up.
"I'm gonna get some rest Ope," I said. He nodded and I fell back asleep.
The next three weeks were filled with doctors and therapists and people trying to help me heal and get out of here. I was thankful for them it just got annoying after a while.
The guys came in to visit me, rotating through who got to see me, and of course Tig got the first and most frequent visitation. He's always been like a second big brother to me. He's fiercely protective of me too, even more so than the other guys.
The thing that annoyed me most in my month long hospital visit though, was the discovery that my $500 thigh piece tattoo had been scrapped up and ruined. I knew eventually my skin would heal and I could have it tattooed over in a few years but I was pissed. I loved that tattoo a lot because I knew it was the closest I would ever get to having SOA ink.
When my month long stay in the hospital came to an end, Gemma decided to throw me a party. I was beyond excited to see everyone in one place and to party with the guys again. Luckily for me, I was mostly healed. There were still some road rash and burn spots that weren't fully healed and I had a few bruised ribs that were healing still.
When Opie pulled his truck into the lot my heart almost stopped. Standing front and center was Jax Teller, the only one who wouldn't come visit me in the hospital that stubborn ass.
Opie helped me down out of the truck and stood by me as I walked over towards everyone.
"Asshole," I spat as Jax.
"I'm glad you're okay and it's good to see you too," he said with a chuckle.
"You could've come to visit me," I said.
"I was on a bit of a tight schedule. You really did some damage to this beauty and someone had to fix her up," Jax said, moving slightly to reveal my Harley Street Glide.
"Jax," I said. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
A few minutes later the party was in full swing as I sat at the bar talking to the guys who were circling around me.
After several hours, Jax came up and took the seat next to mine.
"I'm glad you're okay," he said.
"Me too," I said. "Thanks again for fixing the bike. Let me know what it cost and I'll find a way to get it to ya."
"A date," he said.
"Oh is that all? Damn I should have you work on my bike more often. When I do it it's like a couple hundred dollars."
"Ma told me you said you love me," he said.
"Always have Jax."
"And everyone's always known it," he said.
"Except me," I said softly. He leaned over and kissed me gently.
"I'd love to go on a date with you Jax," I said.
"Perfect. Tomorrow night. 7 pm. Be ready."
I smiled and nodded as a very drunk Chibs came over to rope Jax into doing shots.
