Melissa Pascal is the daughter of Chief Pascal, she grew up with the name Grant as her last name. Melissa's mother ran away after finding out she was pregnant to New York, Melissa never met her father but she heard stories about him growing up which made her never want to find him. However after working for New York fire department since she was 18 at the age of 23 she moves back to Chicago after the death of her mother and ends up in the floater pool.

Until she ends up at firehouse 51 she had heard it was the best fire house in the state but was under new management after the exit of deputy fire commissioner Boden but she never expected that she would end up in the same firehouse that her father is Chief. Melissa finds it hard to act normal around him knowing the truth but she has to because what would happen if he find out who she was, she can't risk loosing the family she had made at 51 but secrets have a cost and come out in the end.
