Worthiness
It didn't take too long before it all fell apart.
She watched as it all fell apart, and there was nothing that she could do to stop it from falling apart. Father had warned her of the dangers of using it, even for a helpful purpose such as the betterment of the the lives of her people.
And even though it blew up in her face, she couldn't help but smile, as if she had been victorious. 'Why?' was the question that rang out in everybody's head.
'How can she be so happy over a failure?' And yet...
She showed herself to be better than those who just succeeded all the time.
"Why do you smile? In the face of failure?"
"Because it makes me human," she'd reply, "Because I know that I am finally worthy of doing things right in the eyes of Father."
As if she knew what happened to the rest of her siblings. As oblivious as she is, she would never be able to see how Father looks at them.
With disgust.
"If you succeed all the time, then failure is bitter, and all you do is raise the bar even higher."
Father approached from behind. "How'd it go?" He asked her.
"It was a complete failure," she replied confidently with a smile, "But I know what it is I need to fix to make it work."
Father smiled right back at her. "That is how you do it. You are indeed worthy of running this kingdom."
Father turned. "I see the look on your face." His voice was soft, clashing with his sturdy hard exterior.
"How can I be worthy of your love Father?"
He put a hand on my shoulder. "Do your best to accomplish your tasks. And if you fail," He smiled, "Then try, try again."
Everything faded away as I shot upright.
If only....
If only I had listened to their words...
Then they'd all still be alive...
Their limp bodies laid not even ten feet away, cold and lifeless as I looked away from them.
