Sonicbronyuniversez Review two: Ginga Densetsu Weed anime
Sonicbronyuniversez walks out onto the screen in the form of a German Shepherd with a ruby in his head
Sonicbronyuniversez: Apparently Ginga fans are sadists that just wanna see dogs die. Who knew?
Sonic and the black knight with me plays during the intro, with the lyrics starting when the clips are shown, with one verse playing in between clips
Sonic homing attacks shadow in Sonic adventure two and then Steven from Steven Universe is seen sacrificing himself to Aquamarine. Sonicbronyuniversez is seen bashing The Hero from The amazing world of Gumball and then he's seen praising the episode known as The Choices. Ash is seen in a battle with Alain in the Pokemon XY anime as Greninja blocks Charizard's Thunder punches by using his Water shuriken as a sword. Twilight is seen blasting Tirek into the floor and then Kion is shown using the roar of the elders in anger against Janja in Never roar again. Dipper and Male Pines from Gravity Falls are seen doing their awkward sibling hug. Aang from Avatar the last airbender is seen battling the fire lord and then Korra from the sequel series, The Legend of Korra, is shown to be doing some probending. Weed from Ginga Densetsu Weed is seen using the Zetsu Tenrou Battouga on Hougen just as Goku appears on the sceeen. Goku turns Super Saiyan blue and gets into his famous pose when going up against Frieza in Resurrection F as the music stops as soon as Goku says his next line.
Goku: Don't blame me if I break you.
The intro ends with Sonicbronyuniversez being shown and the title of the video/story is shown above him
Sonicbronyuniversez: So I know it's been a month or two since my last review, but I'm finally back with more. This time with an anime review.
Clips from Ginga Densetsu Weed are shown as Sonicbronyuniversez talks about it
Sonicbronyuniversez: That anime in particular is known as Ginga Densetsu Weed, one of my favorite anime, hell; one of my favorite shows of all time. It even inspired me to make a remake on here and Fanfiction out of pure love. There's also Ginga Nagareboshi Gin which I've only seen two episodes of so far, and I do think those episodes are very good, but this series I feel is much better; and not just because I finished it. Let's start off with the story itself. It starts off with a young Akita named Weed, who lives alone with his mother in the Northern alps of the land of Ohu. Or Japan. I think it's all Ohu, but who cares? What really matters is that Weed meets a dog named GB, who takes him in as his godfather and raises him after his mom dies. Pretty cool how he'd care for a dog he barely knows.
Sonicbronyuniversez comes onto the screen with the clips as he continues
Sonicbronyuniversez: Now I should probably mention that GB also gave Weed his name; an element I kept in my own story due to how genius it was. It really does show the bond between the two, and it made me more than happy to see episode nineteen discuss this topic in a way. Despite this though, people seem to be really devisive on this series as a whole; some are on the side of loving it and some are on the side of hating it. Me? I'm siding with the former, and now I'll explain why. And I already went through the story and all that crap, but what about what happens in between the story?
Sonicbronyuniversez takes us to where we start off with Weed walking with his commrads at the time
Sonicbronyuniversez: So in the beginning, Weed travels with GB, Smith, and for a while Sasuke, to get to Ohu and find Gin, Weed's father and the protagonist of the original series; at least I think, as from what I've seen Daisuke, Gin's owner seems to be just as important. There's nothing wrong with that, I just didn't expect it. Anyway, the premise itself is really engaging in some areas, and it shows us as many deaths as it can with someone dying on screen in almost every episode. Normally I just roll my eyes whenever a show repeats a dramatic form. Hell, even good shows suffer from this form. The gasp for drama cliche was overused in Mlp after about two seasons, the Guard laugh at the end of plenty of episodes in Lion Guard, and so on so on. But for a war, it works because death happens a lot. Frankly the war waits until episode twenty three to happen, but it still works because it drives Weed to not want to kill. With every death, it motivates him to finish Hougen in a new way. And trust me; I'll get to the forshadowing in just a bit.
Sonicbronyuniversez's head ruby shines as he takes us to the section he talks about the characters in
Sonicbronyuniversez: Now in context for an anime series with this concept, the characters are the most important aspect, as they're the ones we'll be getting attached to. And thankfully, two of my favorite characters in all of anime came from this, allowing me to make it a complete success in that regard.
The characters are shown as Sonicbronyuniversez talks about all of them in their own light
Sonicbronyuniversez: Akita Inu Weed himself makes this show for me, with his personality of a child trying to end a war being really engaging to me. While it doesn't seem to impact him as hard as it does in my fanmade remake of the show, I can safely say that Weed develops amazingly. Sure he doesn't change, but he doesn't have to. At least he's not a flawless Gary Stu like I heard his father Gin was, though don't qoute me on that; I haven't seen much of Nagareboshi Gin yet. Anyway, then there's English Settler GB, Weed's godfather, who may be a cowardly bitch, but it's the kind of cowardly bitch that I can tolerate. As in, rarely does he bitch if at all! Frankly this is coming from someone who loves characters like Lucy Van Pelt from Peanuts and D.W Read from Arthur, but I like how they managed to have GB grow.
Sonicbronyuniversez is shown as he describes the other characters, with them being shown as well
Sonicbronyuniversez: And then there's German Shepherd Jerome, Weed's mentor for half his time in the story before Weed exiles him after he kills two assassains that they most likely could've handled in every encounter. Like seriously; if Weed can handle them then they shouldn't be able to win every time. Still. I'm a huge fan of the mentor student bond, like how I love it with Gohan and Piccolo from Dragon Ball. And yes, this reminds me of that; which is one reason I feel that these two work off each other perfectly. Jerome sacrificing his life for Weed feels real and just heartbreaking, and it makes me invested with no question. There are some other characters like Kishu Kyoshiro, who's a savage badass, Golden Retriever Mel, who I thought was a chick at first but is still adorable, and Koga Tesshin the untitled ninja dog, who's pretty cool, all with their own unique personalities and traits. But I wanna talk about one more character, and that's the main antagonist; Great Dane Hougen.
Hougen is shown as Sonicbronyuniversez prepares to talk about him
Sonicbronyuniversez: This dude is a complete and total sadist who does whatever he can to get what he wants. He started off as the main antagonist in episode six, and continued onward for the rest of the series, appearing in almost every episode afterwards. He also had that incredible battle with Weed in the end, which I'm more than willing to compliment when I talk about the fight scenes in this show. Depending on how you deal with sadists, whether you love, hate, or love to hate them, there's something in Hougen for everyone.
Sonicbronyuniversez dashes onto the screen as he smirks to the audience
Sonicbronyuniversez: And yes, he does have a backstory, but it's revealed as late as it can get before the main reason Orion's manga story never got turned into an anime. By that I mean episode twenty four. So without further ado, let's move onto the reasons I love this anime so much.
Sonicbronyuniversez slashes through the screen as he prepares to talk about the good stuff with clips from the anime being shown
Sonicbronyuniversez: For starters, this show has some major balls for what's essentially a show about a bunch of dogs beating the crap out of each other. Everyone's movements feels authentic when a battle sequence starts and when done right, they can be the best part of the episode. Another thing I like is that they managed to have such an amazing area of characters to show for us. None of them are outright detestable in my opinion, and they all have their own traits going for them that makes me want to see them succeed. And this anime shows perfectly how dark war can get, while also leaving it up to the actions of the characters to decide what's right. People die in this anime. They aren't defeated or put into comas. Someone dies in almost every episode and it's captivating every time. They use fangs and claws instead of lasers and mystical items from other worlds; and despite almost everyone being dogs, they all feel human. Even the inhumane ones like Hougen have their own shred of humanity.
Sonicbronyuniversez is shown as he begins to wrap up the good things
Sonicbronyuniversez: One thing I appreciate in this series is that it takes the time and effort to make Weed's final decision make sense. I'll explain this later on, but I personally feel that everyone got a little too pissy about the last episode.
Sonicbronyuniversez is seen looking through some kind of journal and closes it while looking at the audience while preparing to talk about the bad things
Sonicbronyuniversez: Now I don't really have much to say here, but I do have one small nitpick that hardly even intertwines with the show itself. And that would be Jerome's supposed death. Don't get me wrong; his arc was finished and it was handled beautifully, but I don't see that as a reason that the Orion anime never happened. I personally think that if Jerome never died then Orion's anime could've been a thing. Hell, I was so baffled by this that I actually went and made my own remake of Weed's story on Wattpad and Fanfiction, just so I could make Orion's story and have everything make sense. Frankly, there are some ways to get around this. Reveal that Jerome was alive all along, continue the story without him, or have Koyuki take Jerome's place in the future arcs. I know that Jerome's awesome, but from what I heard Koyuki did just about nothing other than help the Orion manga happen. So if they just used this idea then I feel she would've been more popular in the anime. Oh; and here's a link to my story for those who're interested. You know what to do.

Sonicbronyuniversez: Anyway, now for my least favorite and favorite episodes.
Sonicbronyuniversez is seen working on a story of some sorts as he then looks at his least favorite episode.
Sonicbronyuniversez: Now keep in mind that I like all of the episodes of this story, so I don't really have a least favorite episode, but I DO have a favorite one; two favorites actually. And just to be fair, we'll talk about the episode I like the least. And that would be An Outcry To A Friend.
Clips from An Outcry To A Friend are shown as Sonicbronyuniversez talks about them.
Sonicbronyuniversez: In this episode, Weed and the others come across another clan that they have to face, while Hougen is forced to kill Genba due to him becoming mentally unstable in the episode prior. As I said, I like the episode; it had some great action and it was nice to see Weed does still care about Jerome after the Lector and Thunder thing. I just don't see it as amazing as episodes like His Name is Weed or The Justice of Two. Though, I did find Kyoshiro's line near the end to be pretty damn hilarious. Savage Kyoshiro!
Sonicbronyuniversez is shown to be looking at a drawing of a red Akita.
Sonicbronyuniversez: Okay it's good, but the bloodlust I put on the title card is just foreshadowing.
The artist nods and walks off as Sonicbronyuniversez notices where he is and talks about his favorite episode.
Sonicbronyuniversez: Oh yeah. My favorite episode of the show is a tie between The Raging Stream and The True Ginga Legend.
The Raging Stream and The True Ginga Legend are shown as Sonicbronyuniversez talks about them.
Sonicbronyuniversez: There's not much to say here, other than it finishes the plot and fucked up everyone's heads on whether or not Jerome died. And personally, I could see Weed's decision to not kill Hougen perfectly. I know loads of people say it sucked, but it was actually foreshadowed ever since the beginning. In The Tool of the General, Blue's sacrifice gave Weed the thought that anyone can reform. In Released Decision, he never had the intention to kill Kaibutsu. He only attacked because his friends were in danger. In Weed Awakens, Weed meets Kyoshiro, who could care less about child abusers lives of killing, one line of which I should mention I can relate to Kyoshiro to an extent. And it gives Weed a lot of thoughts. In Farewell, Weed banishes Jerome for simply killing two enemies, showing that he doesn't want his friend to fall under the same level as them. In The Ohu Suicide Corps, his attack on Hougen fails because he's not strong enough, giving him more time to think about his decision. And in the final episode, he finally makes his choice after so long and makes out the fact that killing is wrong no matter what. And while I personally don't agree with this, it's the build up that makes Weed's decision all the more emotional. I know I changed it in my remake of the anime on here and Fanfiction but ask me this. What would you do if you were Weed in this scenario?
Sonicbronyuniversez is shown as he describes his thoughts on Ginga Densetsu Weed as a whole.
Sonicbronyuniversez: Ginga Densetsu Weed is a series that while I had the crappy excuse of Screw attack made a joke about the Zetsu Tenrou Battouga being like the spin dash as a reason to watch it, I still found so much to love in it from the first episode alone. This became so much more to me than a simple spin dash joke, and I love it so god damn much that I even made a fan made remake for both her and Fanfiction, and eventually Deviantart, and even a sequel series for Orion. Well, the latter is why I'm making both stories since Orion never had an anime, but whatever. From Weed to Genba, each character manages to entertain me in their own way. And believe me; if Screw attack hadn't made that joke, I wouldn't have even known this anime existed.
Sonicbronyuniversez is seen slashing multiple rouge gems into bits with his sword while in a dark place.
Sonicbronyuniversez: I give, (slashes the last gem in half) Ginga Densetsu Weed...
Sonicbronyuniversez puts his sword away as ten diamonds come onto the screen.
Mysterious voice: Ten diamonds out of ten.
Sonicbronyuniversez is shown as he finishes up his thoughts.
Sonicbronyuniversez: So, yeah. Ginga Densetsu Weed. With beautiful animation, I do give this the approval of watchable. And with lovable characters and an amazing story, I give this the approval of enjoyable. And with the small, but surely there fan base it has, I think I can say that if you're the right person, this gets the approval of memorable. So with that out of the way, I'm Sonicbronyuniversez, and next time we'll get to an anime that I'm almost done with, and will almost be off of Netflix soon.
Sonicbronyuniversez is shown leaning on a TV while petting a Dalmatian puppy that's sitting on it.
Sonicbronyuniversez: Wanna stay up to date with my Ginga stories?
Sonicbronyuniversez lifts his leg and moves his tail and releases a three second rotten egg fart for the Dalmatian (pffffft).
The Dalmatian whiffs the yellow cloud and loves the scent that it brings to his nostrils.
Sonicbronyuniversez: Here's a link to my own Ginga Densetsu Weed Remake right now. Feel free to follow and favorite, or vote and read, depending on whichever one you pick. Either way, this will lead up to my sequel story: Ginga Hanashi Orion. Hope you enjoy them!
