Chris woke up in a medical ward bed and saw Helen watching over him.

Helen: Chris! Oh, (hugs him) thank goodness!

Chris: (hugs back) It's okay.

At the bridge.

Chris and Helen made their way to the bridge where Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Cheese and Tails holding an unconscious Cosmo were looking outside to see what looked to be a bunch of dead trees.

Chris: Where are we?

???: Help!

They turned to see Star and Chaos pulling an unconscious and severely burnt Y/n out of some ruble which made everyone gasp.

Cream: What happened to big brother?!

Chaos: He was fighting Shadow and he used a forbidden technique!

Star tried to feel a pulse, but she was too emotionally out of control to do it properly. So Tails went over to them and put his head to Y/n's chest and focuses hard until he hears a very faint heartbeat.

Tails: It's faint, but I can hear a heartbeat! Come on, let's get him and Cosmo to the medical ward!

Later.

Tails was using the scanners to check Y/n and Cosmo's condition while Knuckles and Chaos were leaning against the wall, Chris and Helen watched from the window, and Star was just pacing back in forth.

Chris: Hey, Tails, you oughtta get some sleep.

Tails turned to Chris with a serious look.

Tails: I don't have time to sleep. Not until I find out the truth about Cosmo.

Helen: What about Y/n's condition?

Tails: I'm working on that, too.

Star: Hey, Chaos. Since Y/n didn't technically finish Striking Judgment, could he have a chance to live?

Chaos: I don't know. No Thunderhog has ever been interrupted while using that attack

Meanwhile.

Sonic got onto the deck of the Typhoon and Amy saw him.

Amy: Where do you think you're going, Sonic? You need your rest.

Sonic: Don't worry, Amy. I'm okay.

Sonic ran off.

Amy: Hey! I've got to follow him.

Amy gets ready to go into her plane, but finds Rouge there.

Rouge: Hiya!

Amy: (gasp) Not you!

Back at the medical ward.

Chris decided to help Tails with the scan.

Tails: There's no communication device anywhere. I told you so!

Chris: Hang on a minute.

Chris enhanced the scan and found some electrical waves coming from Cosmo's head.

Tails: Huh?

Knuckles: You got something?

Chris: There's some kind of invisible signal emanating from Cosmo's brain. It's so microscopic, a normal radar wouldn't pick up on it.

Knuckles: So Cosmo really has been beaming information to the Metarex.

Chaos: I knew I didn't like her.

Helen: Hold on, let's not jump to conclusions. I'm sure she's not doing this willingly.

Knuckles: Can we stop it?

Chris: I'm not so sure. If we do, she'll never be the same.

Star: What do you mean?

Chris: Whatever it is, it's attached to the part of Cosmo's brain that controls her sight and hearing. If we remove it, she may never see or hear again.

Star: No, not my sister! Not my baby sister!

Star pushed them to the side and looked at the scan.

Star: (teary eyed) Do you at least have good news about Y/n?

Chris looked down.

Helen: Chris?

Chris: We scanned him and it seems like he could really go either way.

Knuckles: What?

Chris: It shows here that the lightning badly damaged his heart.

Helen kicked the wall.

Helen: Damn it! We're in a situation that could not only lead to Y/n's death, but Cosmo's sight and hearing!

Tails looked down sad while Star began to just cry. Knuckles punched the wall in frustration.

Knuckles: Cosmo's case is a chance we'll have to take.

Tails: Grr. How can you say something like that! I'm not letting anyone hurt Cosmo!

Knuckles: No one wants to hurt her! We just want to set her free!

Chaos: Speak for yourself, Knuckles.

Knuckles: Huh?

Chaos smashed the wall with his fist.

Chaos: If you won't do anything, then give her to me and I'll tear that baby's eyes out myself!

Tails: No way!

Star: I will not let you harm my sister!

Chaos: Your sister is the reason my partner nearly killed himself!

Tails: Cosmo is my friend!

Star: And my sister! She means the world to me!

Chaos: Oh, and you're saying Y/n's life means nothing to you?

Helen: Enough!

Chris: We're on the same team, you guys!

Knuckles: I'm not the bad guy here. I just want what's best for all of us.

Chris: Okay. We've just gotta think this through calmly. I know this isn't easy for you two. And I wish we had another choice, but we don't.

Cosmo was secretly awake and was hearing everything.

Knuckles: Either we do this, are we sacrifice ourselves to the will of Dark Oak.

Chaos: Personally, I would rather die than submit to the bastard who caused my Lord such pain.

Chris: I think it's pretty clear what we have to do.

Cosmo let a tear fall.

Amy and Rouge were flying in Amy's plane.

Amy: I'll have you know, the only reason I haven't tossed you out of this plane is because I was hoping you could give me some information.

Rouge: About what?

Amy: I want you to tell me everything you know about Cosmo.

Rouge: What makes you think I know anything?

The plane began to speed up.

Rouge: Hey, Pinkie, slow this thing down, will ya?

Amy: No. Not until you tell me what you're up to. Why were you and Shadow after Cosmo?

Rouge: The Metarex were using your friend as a spy. I should think you guys would be thanking us.

Amy: But what do you and Shadow have to do with it? Did you know Y/n could be dead because he was defending Cosmo?

Rouge: Shouldn't you be keeping your eyes on the skies?

Amy: Hey, don't change the subject!

Rouge: Watch out!

Amy almost hit a dead tree, but she managed to steer out of the way. That's when the two found some sort of base.

At the Blue Typhoon engine room.

Knuckles was looking after the Master Emerald when he got a call on his comlink from Rouge.

Rouge: Oh, Knuckie!

Knuckles: Yeah? What?

Rouge: Goodness, what a charming hello that was.

Knuckles: Well, well, if it isn't Rouge the rat. You've got a lot of nerve. You think I'm gonna make nice...

Rouge: He's going off. Here, talk to him.

Rouge gave the comlink to Amy.

Amy: Knuckles, it's me. Rouge and I figured out where we are.

Knuckles: Oh, yeah?

Amy: You won't believe this. It's their home planet... The Seedrian's and the Metarex.

A hologram of a Seedrian appeared.

Seedrian: You are looking upon Planet Green Gate. We live here long ago, before a terrible darkness with befell us. Everything has been destroyed. All that is left is long since dead. I have come to tell you our story and that of the evil Metarex.

With Sonic.

Sonic found Shadow standing on a dead tree and he was also greatly damaged from his fight with Y/n.

Sonic: Well, you know, you really outdid yourself this time, it was bad enough trying to hurt a harmless little kid like Cosmo, but you also almost killed my pal, Y/n. I just can't seem to figure you out, Shadow. You really are a mystery.

Shadow just scoffed and jumped down the tree.

Sonic: You'd just better watch your back, Shadow.

Shadow: Well, what's stopping you, Sonic? Here's your big chance.

Sonic: Nah, I'm not in the mood to fight. But when I am you'll be the first to know, pal.

Back at the Typhoon.

Star looked over Y/n sleeping when Chaos walked in.

Chaos: Has he shown any signs of improvement?

Star: No.

Chaos: I came here to try and help heal him.

Chaos began to heal Y/n then looked to Star.

Chaos: Listen, I know I have no ground to make a request of you after I tried to rip your sister's eyes out, but I ask you, Lady Star. Please help me save my partner-

Star was already healing him.

Star: Your partner is my husband. I would've helped even if you told me not to.

Helen walked in.

Helen: Is there anything I can do to help?

Star: If you can bring me water and something to eat so I can keep my stamina up, that would help a lot.

Helen: Say less.

Helen walked out of there and Star looked back to Y/n.

Star: What do you think he's dreaming about?

In Y/n's head.

Y/n was walking through some sort of dark forest.

Y/n: What is this?

Y/n saw a light up ahead.

Y/n: (sigh) I guess this is the end.

Y/n walked forward towards the light. When he got there, he saw the light was coming from a campfire with lots of people setting around and one of them was someone he hadn't in awhile.

Y/n: Uncle?

Spark turned to Y/n.

Spark: Y/n!

Spark ran to Y/n and hugged him tight.

Y/n: Where is this? Is this the afterlife?

Spark: No. This is limbo, the medium between Heaven and Hell. You aren't dead, yet, but you are close. Come, there is someone here that I'm sure you're dying to see again.

Another Hedgehog stood up. This Hedgehog was wearing a lab coat and looked a bit like Y/n.

Hedgehog: Hello, son.

Y/n: F-Father?!

Y/n ran to the Hedgehog in tears and hugged him.

Y/n: I'm so sorry!

F/n: Dear boy, for what?

Y/n: I couldn't save you, I killed our village-

F/n: What's done is done, I do not blame you for my death.

???: This is a nice reunion.

They turned to see Storm was also sitting with another Thunderhog.

Thunderhog: Now, who is this kid?

Y/n: You're Storm and Surge Thunderhog, our clans strongest warriors.

Storm: That's us. And you are my current incarnation.

Y/n: Not just that, I'm also the 20th and current head of Thunderhog Clan, sir.

Surge: Ho oh, we've got a big shot!

Y/n turned to see Galaxina and another Seedrian who wore a dress like Cosmo and Star's with wider sleeves and had one big white flower on her head like Star.

Y/n: Hey, are two Seedrians?

Galaxina: What's a Seedrian?

Y/n: Oh, I didn't mean to-

Galaxina: Just kidding! Of course, we're Seedrians. I'm Galaxina. This is my mother.

Earthia: You may address me as Earthia.

Y/n: Wait, you're Galaxina? As in Cosmo and Star's sister?

Galaxina: That's me.

Y/n: Then that would mean-

Earthia: Yes, I am their mother. Spark here told me how you married my daughter, Star. So, it's a pleasure to see my son-in-law.

Y/n: Uh, (bows his head) The pleasure is all mine, ma'am.

F/n: Tell us, son. How did you get here?

Y/n: I was trying to defend Cosmo from Shadow and I ended up using the forbidden technique, Striking Judgment. However, it got interrupted, so I think that's how I'm still holding on.

Earthia: Although I appreciate you going so far to protect my youngest, I also say have some self preservation. It does seem that Star is treating you as we speak and I'm proud of her as I was the one to teach her to never stop treatment until the patient is dead.

Y/n: Do you know where me and my crew are?

Earthia: You are on your wife's home planet, Planet Green Gate.

Y/n: So, this is where you and the Metarex are from.

Earthia: Yes. (sigh) I'll never forget that day. Star was too young to remember her home and Cosmo wasn't even born, yet. We were once a thriving civilization, but then came the time of the Great Calamity. It was long ago. A war began that soon threatened to spread to the far reaches of the Galaxy.

Flashback.

Many Seedrians were running from a plane that fired a missile at them. Daisy was holding on to a male Seedrian.

Male Seedrian: I have to act quickly! Perhaps the transformation will last this time!

Daisy: Landar!

Landar's eyes glowed as he transformed into a giant dinosaur. Fighter planes fired at him, but he tanked it and crushed the planes in his mouth. Landar began to walk forward, but his eyes went dark and he fell over dead. Daisy went to his side and began to cry.

Later.

A lot of Seedrians were having a meeting which included Earthia, Galaxina, Daisy, Thorn, Zelkova and a purple haired male Seedrian.

Seedrian: The citizens of our planet are in grave danger. While the enemy is getting stronger, we are losing more soldiers by the minute.

Zelkova: The evolutionary process is unnaturally fast. It has yet to be perfected.

Thorn: And our bodies destroy themselves because they can't handle the sudden change.

Seedrian: Something must be done. We must find a way to make the transformation last. We cannot continue to let our men destroy themselves.

Daisy: My own husband perished only yesterday, and unless something is done, I am afraid thousands more will meet the same fate.

Earthia sat up from her seat.

Earthia: It is time for us to leave here. Perhaps we will return to our home one day, but now, it is too dangerous.

Earthia placed the same red gem Cosmo always wears in front of her.

Zelkova: What is that?

Earthia: It is a blessed amulet. It will protect us on our journey.

Purple male Seedrian: Journey? How dare you?

He slammed his hands on the table.

Purple male Seedrian: You want us to simply give in to the enemy? Never!

Earthia: Lucas!

Lucas: I won't do it. I have never been a coward, and I won't become one with you.

Earthia: You will do as I say.

Lucas: I have gone along with you this far, Earthia. But I refuse to let those that have fallen before me perish in vain!

He slammed his hand again.

Earthia: If you won't respect my decision, you can stay behind and fight the enemy yourself.

Lucas: Very well.

Two vines separated them.

Thorn: Let's calm this down. Listen, we all want to defeat the enemy and agree the evolutionary process is the best course of action for that. So, how about we focus on that?

Earthia: Where are you going with this, Thorn?

Thorn: I saw how well your youngest treated our injured soldiers. Star, was her name? If we could use her expert healing, she might be able to help us perfect the transformation.

Earthia: But at her young age, she could possibly die from spreading her healing so thin!

Thorn: And like the others, she shall be a noble sacrifice for our people.

Earthia: Lucas, say something! She's your daughter, too!

Lucas looked like he was really considering what Thorn said and Earthia just couldn't believe it, so she slammed her hands on the table.

Earthia: I will not have it! We are leaving, and that is final!

End flashback.

Y/n was now sitting down with the others.

Y/n: This Lucas kinda sounds like a dick.

Galaxina: He was one of the greatest warriors of our people. Slaughtered an army of the enemy by himself.

Y/n: And this was the guy you decided to have children with?

Earthia: In my defense, he seemed like a nice guy when we first met.

Y/n: They always seem nice at first.

F/n: Anyway, I might have a small idea of it, but what happened next?

Earthia: Well, we were preparing to leave.

Flashback.

The females were readying a ship for takeoff.

Seedrian: Earthia, do you think we will ever return here once the war is over?

Earthia: No one knows what the future will hold for our planet, Starla. We will have to wait and see.

Daisy ran up to them.

Daisy: Earthia, come quickly! Something is happening to the trees outside!

Earthia: What do you mean?

She looked out and saw the trees were weathering away. Then Galaxina along with a young Star came up to their mother.

Galaxina: I know you're already pretty shocked, but I feel like you should hear this. Go on, Star, tell her what you told me.

Star: It was amazing, Mommy! Daddy let me help by letting me use healing energy on the warriors!

Earthia: What?!

She ran back to the planet where she saw Lucas in front of a machine.

Earthia: Lucas!

Lucas: Huh? Yes, Earthia?

Earthia: There is something happening to the planet. And is what Star told me true?

She got a better look at the machine to see a Planet Egg and also saw a bunch of men in stasis pods.

Earthia: What is that?

Lucas: It is the Planet Egg, the entire energy supply of our planet in crystallized form. In its powers, I have discovered a way for the transformation to last... a way for us to fight our enemy forever.

Earthia: Have you gone mad?

Lucas: Just the opposite. With such a thing as this, we will be more than mere beast! We will rise up, and we will claim our victory. Finally! Earthia, this is what we've been waiting for!

Earthia's eyes welled up with tears.

Earthia: But, Lucas, our people have always honored the natural world. How could you do it?

Earthia began to cry.

Lucas: Earthia?

Lucas tried to comfort her, but Earthia pushed him away.

Earthia: You! You have betrayed your own people. You have destroyed everything that was ours, faster than any enemy! And you even exploited your own daughter!

Lucas: You were the one who wanted to leave here. I haven't betrayed anyone! You have!

Earthia: You're wrong!

Lucas: And as for Star, she has no idea about this. I asked her to deal with something she could handle.

Thorn walked into the room with bandages covered his top eyes.

Thorn: Are things almost done, Lucas?

Lucas: Won't be much longer.

Earthia: Thorn? What's wrong-

Thorn: Do you remember that Thunderhog who refused to help us?

He took off the bandages and revealed the Dragoon Eyes.

Thorn: This is his punishment!

Earthia gasped at the sight.

Lucas: We will crystallize the power of every planet in the known Galaxy. We will have the strength of a thousand armies!

Earthia: You are mad.

Lucas: We will lay waste to the enemy. And with our newfound power, we will create a new order.

Earthia: No... Please... Stop!

Thorn: There's no point in trying to convince her, Lucas. She's way too soft.

Earthia: Please, Thorn! What would Lily think if she was here?!

Thorn: I do not know what she would think. She's gone, and I'm willing to go above and beyond to prevent the same thing happening to my comrades! Come on, Lucas, let's get it over with.

Later.

A bunch of the male Seedrians in their gaint beast states were fighting off the planes.

Seedrian: Earthia, I'm afraid hundreds of beasts are still resisting while all the females were in their ship.

Earthia: We have no choice, but to destroy them.

Everyone looked at her in shock.

Earthia: They will bring darkness upon the Galaxy if we do not stop them. May we be granted divine protection as we travel to a more peaceful world.

They flew off and the battle ended with all the beast on the ground. Lucas was the only one still conscious.

Lucas: We are not yet finished. Our transformation is not complete. The final stages are upon us. Soon, we shall rule through space and time.

Lucas changed into a robotic body all too familiar.

Dark Oak: You tried to destroy us, Earthia, but we are indestructible.

His five Commanders appeared behind him.

Dark Oak: We will live on, and all our enemies shall bow before us. We will have our revenge.

Meanwhile.

Star was looking at what was once her home when Earthia walked up behind her.

Star: Mommy, where's Daddy?

Earthia couldn't say anything and just hugged her daughter.

End flashback.

Earthia: Only four of those who remained here survived. In time, Lucas became the Metarex leader known as Dark Oak. And I'm sure you know the rest.

Y/n: To think all this happened over a war.

Storm: That's something we Thunderhogs know all too well.

Y/n: Lucas may have been a douche, but the two good things he's done were helping make Star and showing me what kind of father I don't want to be.

Earthia: Listen to me, Y/n. You better take care of Star and Cosmo. I am leaving them in your hands.

Y/n: I will not disappoint you, Lady Earthia.

Back to the real world.

Cream and Cheese were standing next to Cosmo who was laying in bed.

Cream: Cosmo, you must be awfully hungry by now. Why don't you let me make you something to eat, okay? My mother taught me how to make the most delicious sugar cookies.

Cosmo: Leave me alone.

Cream: Cosmo!

Cheese: Chao!

Cosmo began to tear up.

Cosmo: Please, you two, just go. Don't you know it's dangerous to be around me?

Cream: You're wrong!

Cheese: Chao chao chao chao chao chao!

Cream: You're our friend, Cosmo. What they say... it's just not true.

Cosmo sat up.

Cosmo: It is!

Cream: But how?

Cosmo: I can't be anybody's friend, not when I'm secretly working for the enemy. Just stay away! I'm no good anyway. Shadow or Chaos should have finished me off by now.

Cream: No, please don't say that, Cosmo. We all love you... even if you are a spy like they say. Oh, I'm sorry.

Cosmo: Get out. Just leave me alone.

Cream: Please don't cry.

Cosmo: I said go!

Cosmo covered herself in the blanket and cried while Cream walked out with her head hung low.

Meanwhile.

Sonic got back to the ship where he saw Chris working on something.

Sonic: Hey there, Chris! You still up here working?

Chris: Finally makin' some headway. This stuff is pretty complex.

Sonic: Well, if anyone can figure it out, it's you, buddy.

Chris: Man, there sure is a lot of data inside this thing.

He held up some kind of flash drive.

Sonic: Anything interesting?

Chris: Plenty. In fact, I'm still downloading it all. There's a lot I haven't figured out, but what I have is pretty amazing, like this stuff here. Remember the date Tails, Y/n, Cosmo and Star collected from that underground Metarex factory? Well, I was able to cross-reference it, and here's what I found. It's some kind of plan to wipe out flesh and blood creatures of all kinds until the whole galaxy is populated by only trees and plant life.

Chris took a pause.

Chris: Planet life... there it is. There's the whole Cosmo connection. Why didn't we see it back then, Sonic? How else could she have figured out that Metarex language? Maybe we could have done something. Maybe it would have been different if-

Sonic: Dwelling on the past isn't gonna make it any easier, pal.

Chris: Yeah, I suppose you're right. I just don't want to see anybody get hurt, that's all. Tails and Star were so upset before. Their hearts are breaking. Not to mention Cosmo... Can't be easy for her.

Sonic: We'll get through it, pal.

Chris: Huh?

Sonic: We've been through worse before. And we made it through okay, right?

Chris nodded.

Sonic: It's gonna be okay. One day all of this will be over, I promise.

Meanwhile.

Star drank some water as she was taking a break from healing.

Star: (sigh) I really hope this healing is doing something.

Chaos: I think at the very least, we took him out of the critical zone and that's all that matters.

Cream walked in with a sad expression.

Cream: Is my brother any better, yet?

Chaos: He hasn't woken up, but we're confident he'll pull through.

Cream: That's good to hear.

Cream sighed and leaned against Star.

Star: What's wrong, sweetie?

Cream: I tried to cheer up Cosmo earlier, but I think I made it worse.

Star: (pats her head) Oh, don't say that. Cosmo is just going through something right now. Just give her time, she'll come around.

Y/n began to stir and wake up.

Y/n: Uh... Cream? Star?

They both looked at him.

Star/Cream: Y/N!

Star and Cream hugged him tight

Y/n: E-Easy!

They let go.

Chaos: Good to have you back, Lord Y/n.

Chaos patted him on the shoulder.

Y/n: It's good to be back.

Star's smile quickly turned into a slight frown.

Star: Cream, would you mind making us some of those sugar cookies you told me about?

Cream: Oh, sure!

Cream went out of the room.

Star: So, Y/n. Mind telling me what's wrong with you?!

Y/n: What do you mean?

Star: You almost killed yourself! I lost my clan, could've lost my sister and you wanted to add my husband to those losses!?

Y/n looked down.

Y/n: I'm... sorry. I was trying to protect you and Cosmo, but that is no excuse for my actions. I apologize.

Star hugged him gently.

Star: I forgive you.

Y/n: Oh, I forgot to tell you. While I was in my near death state, I met your mother!

Star: Wait, really?!

Y/n: Yeah. She told me about this planet, the Seedrians and the Metarex. And this might not be important, but I think she approves of me.

Star: (sigh and leans on his shoulder) I'm just glad you're okay.

Y/n: I'm glad everyone's okay.

The two shared a loving kiss.

Helen: Hope I'm not interrupting anything.

They noticed Helen at the door.

Helen: Glad you're okay, Y/n. I'm sorry for you to hear this after you just woke up, but we all need to talk.

Later.

Cosmo was in the cockpit with planes and was about to get on one.

???: Where are you going?

She turned and saw Tails.

Cosmo: Please, Tails. I'm leaving. You can't stop me.

Tails: I don't understand where you'll go.

Cosmo: To fight Dark Oak. Though I'm not sure what good it will do.

Tails: You can't go alone, Cosmo.

Cosmo: Yes, I can. You'll be much safer when I'm not around. I can't stay here. Don't you understand? They're using my eyes to spy on you. They're listening through my ears. They're using me to betray you.

Tails: It's not your fault, Cosmo.

Cosmo: I feel so lost. I just don't know what to do.

Tails began to walk closer to her.

Tails: It's okay.

Cosmo: I feel like I don't even know who I am anymore.

Tails: You're my friend, that's who.

Cosmo: I've done nothing but bring you trouble, so how can you still call me your friend, Tails?

Tails smiled.

Tails: 'Cause those Metarex can use your eyes and ears all they want, but they can never have your heart.

Tails took Cosmo's hands and that's when the lights came on.

Amy: You're not leaving without us, are you?

Amy, Cream, Cheese, Sonic, Y/n, Knuckles, Star and even Rouge and Chaos showed up.

Cream: If you're going to fight Dark Oak, we're gonna fight with you!

Cheese: Chao chao!

Knuckles: Me too! Those Meta-dopes might need a knuckle sandwich.

Rouge: "Knuckle sandwich?" Gee, that was real clever.

Knuckles: Who asked you?!

Cosmo: Really?

Sonic: We all talked it over together, and we want to help our friend.

Star walked over and took her sister's hands.

Star: Cosmo, spy or not, I'll always be your sister. And you will always be mine.

Chaos: It took some convincing, but I wanna help, too.

Tails: See? It's just like I said, Cosmo. It doesn't matter what the Metarex do. We all know that you're really our friend. That's what matters.

Cosmo: Thank you, Tails. Thank you all!

Cosmo began to cry into her sister's embrace and that when Y/n noticed Shadow watching from a distance.

Shadow: You're all fools.

???: You maybe right.

Shadow looked up and saw Helen and Chris sitting on top of the Typhoon.

Chris: If being a fool means helping a friend when they're in trouble instead of turning your back on them, then that's what we are.

Shadow: She could be a Jeopardy to the mission!

Helen: Those who abandon the mission are scum, but those who turn their backs on even one of their friends are worse than scum.

Shadow was about to leave.

Chris: You don't have to go, Shadow. Why don't you stick around and help us defeat them? They may be using Cosmo, but it's not her fault. And who knows. Maybe we can use their own weapon against them. Come on. What do you say? Will you stay?
