S2 Chapter 17: Mean Machines
Sonic and Y/n were running through Station Square and saw a bunch of people in the park. Some have their hair done to look like Sonic or Y/n, some are running, some are wearing scarfs, some are in trees while others are leaning against them with arms crossed. There were also activities like making art of Sonic and Y/n, buttons of them, and even small wood sculptures of them. They went to get a closer look.
Y/n: It's like a whole festival for us here.
A painter noticed them.
Painter: Look, everybody.
Sonic hair: Oh, wow, Sonic's here!
Y/n hair: And Y/n too.
Everyone in the park ran to them.
Sonic: Calm down, will you?
Chaos: I think it's time we hightail out of here.
Y/n: Agreed.
They both ran off.
At a big building, Chris' father, Nelson Thorndyke was working at his desk when a blonde woman walked in.
Woman: Good morning, Mr. Thorndyke.
Nelson: Morning, Suzy.
Suzy: Those documents I mentioned are ready for you if you have the time.
Nelson: Ah, just leave them right here, please.
Suzy: Yes, sir.
She snapped her fingers in a whole bunch of man came in with whole stacks of papers.
Nelson: Huh? Hey, what is all this stuff, Suzy?
Suzy: Apparently, our home appliance division has been absolutely flooded with customer complaint forms.
Nelson: Are you kidding me? This can't be. Why we've hardly ever received any complaints about our products before. How could this have happened now.
Suzy: I think you'd better watch this.
She turned on the news and Scarlet Garcia.
Scarlet: Sonic and Y/n's popularity seems to be affecting people throughout the city and all sorts of amazing ways. From groups of children playing games of "catch the hedgehog" to adult sleeping on rooftops and teenagers leaning against walls with their arms crossed like their heroes, Sonic and Y/n's same seems to be a reaching astonishing proportions. In fact, a large number of citizens are leaving their jobs in order to follow their idols. From Station Square Park, I'm Scarlet Garcia, SSTV News.
Suzy turned off the news.
Nelson: (laughing) I knew Sonic and Y/n we're famous, but that's ridiculous. Ah, but what does all this have to do with those complaints, Suzy?
Suzy: As you know, many of our employees are wild about the hedgehogs too.
Nelson: Mmm-hmm.
Suzy: Well, some of them have left the company and started either Sonic or Y/n fan clubs and most of the assembly line workers so much time talking about them that their work has become shobby. And now our customers are complaining like crazy.
Nelson screamed.
Suzy: If this keeps up, we might have to go out of business.
Nelson: I'm not losing Thorndyke Industries over some silly hedgehogs.
His office phone rang and Nelson picked it up.
Nelson: Thorndyke here. What is it? What's the matter, Ella?
Ella: I just thought you should know that I kept Chris home from school today because he has a snuffle in his nose.
Chris was laying in his bed.
Chris: It's no big deal, Dad, I'm totally fine.
Ella: I'm giving him plenty of fresh orange juice and he'll have a nice big bowl of my homemade chicken soup for lunch.
Y/n: And I got the softest tissues I could find, and I'll drop by his school later to get his notes and homework, we can't let him fall behind.
Ella: If he get some rest, I'm sure he'll be better in a day or so.
Nelson: But what if he gets worse? I'm leaving the office right now. Just tell Chris to sit tight!
He hung up.
Nelson: Suzy, get my helicopter ready immediately!
Suzy: What's wrong, Mr. Thorndyke?
Nelson: My son may be gravely ill. I've got to get home right away before it's too late.
He ran to the door.
Nelson: Suzy, get Ed from Home Appliances in here and tell him I want these complaints taken care of by the end of the day!
At the Thorndyke residence.
Mr. Tanaka was signing a contract with someone who delivered a vacuum. He gave the board back to the delivery man.
Delivery man: No tip? Lousy butler.
Everyone else along with Emerl was inside having cake and tea when Ella walked in.
Chuck: Well, how's our little patient feeling, Ella?
Ella: Right now he's taking a nice long nap. I'm sure the rest will do him lots of good.
Chuck: Wonderful.
Mr. Tanaka walked in.
Mr. Tanaka: Good news, Ella, your vacuum cleaner just came back from the repair shop.
Ella: Ah, welcome home, my little amigo. I hate to say it, but Mr. Thorndyke's company doesn't make the good products the way it used to. They're always breaking.
Chuck: Please forgive me, Ella. I would've fixed it for you myself. But lately I've been spending all my spare time trying to figure out what's wrong with Emerl.
Ella: Oh, sure, I understand, Mr. Thorndyke.
Cream: Is Emerl feeling sick too?
Cheese: Chao?
Chuck: Yes, when I examined him yesterday, I found that all his program data had been erased somehow.
Y/n: And the day before yesterday, you wouldn't turn on no matter what we did so I had to use some lightning to jump start his system.
Chaos: Luckily that worked out.
Amy: Poor Emerl.
Cream: Maybe I can take care of Emerl like Ella takes care of Chris.
Cheese: Chao, chao!
Vanilla: That's very thoughtful of you, Cream.
Y/n: You raised well, Mrs. Vanilla.
Spark: Y/n, why exactly are you going to Chris's school just to get his homework?
Y/n: It's not only that, I also scheduled a meeting with the school director.
Vanilla: For what?
Y/n: To talk about Cream's enrollment.
Cream: You're enrolling me and Chris' school.
Y/n: Yeah, Chris tells me it's a good school and you know some kids there.
Amy: Are you sure you can get her in. What experience do you have.
Spark: Y/n was actually pretty smart in his childhood.
Vanilla: I even saw his profile. It said that " even though he was only seven years old and homeschooled, he was at a 12th grade level."
Chaos: And to add, he was technically Cream's legal guardian the entire time Vanilla was away.
Y/n: So, I'd say I'm a pretty good candidate to take on this meeting. Mrs. Vanilla will even join me for good measure.
They all suddenly heard a helicopter from Chris' room. They all ran into Chris's room and saw Nelson along with Lindsey flying right outside his window.
Y/n: (Thinking: And his sick day just got worse.)
Chris: Why are they here?
Nelson: How you feeling, buddy, I heard you were sick so I rushed right ho-
Lindsey pushed Nelson aside a bit.
Lindsey: I'm here, baby.
They both gave him kisses.
Chuck: Don't you think you're overreacting? It's just a common cold. Everyone gets them.
Nelson: Yes, I know, but when I heard couldn't keep my mind on my work.
Lindsey: Same here.
Y/n: (quietly: At least you care now.)
Lindsey: What was that?
Y/n: Nothing.
Chuck: Nelson! You're impossible! Don't you see? What kind of example are you giving your son abandoning your work place just because of a harmless little cold?
Nelson: But, Dad, I just wanted to-
Chuck: Don't you "but, Dad" me, Mr. Big-Shot-Goof-Off. How irresponsible can you get?
Nelson: Now listen here, Dad. If I wanna take a day off to visit my son when he's got a disease it's nobody's business but mine.
Chuck: If I were you, I couldn't afford to take time off. Not when every product you make rolls off the assembly line, straight into the junk shop.
Nelson: I'll have you know the real reason behind those bad appliances is your friends Sonic and Y/n.
Y/n: Excuses excuses. At least I take better care of Chris than you do.
Everyone gasped and looked at him.
Nelson: (rolling up his sleeve) Care to run that by me again?
Chris: Everybody stop yelling!
Lindsey: Darling.
Nelson: Sorry about that, big guy. Guess we got a little carried away there.
Chris: Is this what you came home for? To argue? If you care about me you have a funny way of showing it.
Chuck: Sorry.
Y/n: We'll get out of your hair. Just rest, kid.
They all left his room.
Ella: Chris didn't mean what he said. It's just a reaction to the antibionics. Ah, I just had the most wonderful idea. I'll make his favorite cherry pie. One big bite of that and he'll be smiling from ear to ear.
Y/n: You do know how creepy that would make him look, right?
Lindsey: How marvelous, a pie. Let's all pitch in and make it together.
They all got to the kitchen.
Ella: All right, everybody, let's get started.
Lindsey: Let's. It looks like we've got everything we need. Everything except the cherries.
Lindsey tried to open the fridge, but it wouldn't open.
Lindsey: It won't budge.
Ella: That's strange.
Ella tried to help, but it still wouldn't move, then the mixer started moving by itself and went after Ella and Lindsey.
Nelson: Look out!
He pushed them out of the way and the mixer penetrated the fridge leaving everyone in shock.
Chuck: I can't believe what I'm seeing.
The mixer went for another attack, but Sonic came out of nowhere and destroyed it with his Spindash. Meanwhile, Emerl watched it with his eyes glowing.
Sonic: All right. Now that's what I call mixing it up. I just beat the beater.
Y/n hit him on the head.
Sonic: Ow. Still no sense of humor I see.
The fridge flung open and the food came out.
Amy: Just leave these to me.
She swatted all the food away with her hammer.
Sonic: Nice work, Amy.
The fridge went after them.
Amy: Freaky freezer.
Amy knocked it away but that's when everyone heard Chris scream.
With Chris.
A TV with a blender on its head, vacuum arms, and a lawn mower leg had Chris in a corner and was about to grab him, but a Spindash came in and struck the machine down.
Chris: Thanks, Sonic.
At that moment, Sonic and Y/n ran into his room.
Sonic: Chris!
Chris gasped then looked beside him and saw Emerl.
Chris: How'd you learn to do that?
Sonic: Do what, Chris?
Chris: Emerl spun around like you two do when you go real fast.
Y/n: You mean, Spindash?
Chris: That's the one.
Sonic: You're kidding me.
Y/n: It's not impossible. Cream's had great development in her Spindash training and she's only six years old.
The appliances monster got up and the two hedgehogs along with Emerl destroyed it with a triple Spindash.
Chris: Hey, good job, you guys. You got him. Huh?
More living appliances came in Chris' room and cornered them.
Y/n: I got this one.
Y/n used his lightning fingers and destroyed some of the appliances and the fire of the explosion set off the sprinklers which made the other machines spark and go down, then Lindsey and Nelson ran in.
Nelson/Lindsey: Chris!
Lindsey: Are you all right, my darling?
Chris: Sure, Mom, the water stopped them.
Chuck: Those sprinklers came on just in time. But I have a bad feeling we haven't seen the last of these monsters.
Sonic: Eggman must be behind this.
Chuck: If we don't act fast, this city could be headed for a catastrophe!
Chris: But now that we know water can short circuit them maybe we can stop them.
Lindsey: That's right.
The sprinklers turned off.
Chuck: Oh, no, they've done it. They've gone and shut off the water supply.
Chaos: Well, we still have the water I can produce, but without the help of Chaos Emeralds I can't do it as rapidly.
Y/n: Then you can rely on my lightning to help out.
Sonic: That's our cue, kids, gotta run.
They ran out.
Chris: Sonic! Y/n!
Nelson: I'm going too.
Lindsey: What?
Nelson: My company distributes every drop of water in this city. Customer service is what Thorndyke Industries is all about. I won't let my customers down any longer.
Chuck: I'm proud of you, Nelson. Fire up the X-Tornado and take my son wherever he wants to go.
Tails/Amy: Roger!
Spark: I'm coming, too. Drop me off in the middle of Station Square, no nephew of mine will be fighting a mechanical Army alone even if he has a Chaos creature helping him.
Tails, Amy, Nelson and Spark ran out of there.
Chris: Mom, can I-
Lindsey: No, dear, I can't let you go with them.
Chris: But, Mom-
Lindsey: You're staying in bed. Now, let's get you out of those wet pajamas. Ella, how about some hot chocolate?
Ella: Coming up.
At Station Square.
Sonic and Y/n finally arrived on the scene and destroyed some of the living appliances, they then saw more surrounding people and Chaos incised Y/n's right arm while Y/n aimed his left pointer and intex finger at the appliances.
Y/n/Chaos: Chaos Lightning Stream!
Chaos shot them with a water blast while Y/n hit the blast with lightning which made the appliances spark and explode.
Sonic: Water stop them so go get your hands on some H2O and let it flow.
Y/n: If you can't, get somewhere high up.
Guy: We knew we could count on you two.
Sonic: Soak it to 'em, guys.
They ran off and they saw Knuckles fighting off some living appliances.
Sonic: Yo, Knuckles!
Knuckles: Well, it's about time. I'm getting attacked by everything but the kitchen sink.
Sonic: Too bad using our fists isn't gonna work for long. Water's all that really works on them.
Y/n: Without a Chaos Emerald, chaos needs a 10 minute cool down before he can use his water attack again.
Sonic: The firefighters are on the way. You three and I will have to do our best to fight them back in the meantime.
They heard a certain type of laughter and then they looked up to see Eggman, Decoe and Bocoe in the Egg-carrier with Bokkun.
Eggman: Well, Sonic and Y/n, I must commend you both in your valiant efforts to annihilate my Army of attacking appliances. But I'm afraid my menacing machines are still on the march.
An antenna poked out of the back of the Egg-carrier and more appliances surrounded them. They then looked up and saw the X-Tornado, Spark jumped out of it with lightning in his hand.
Y/n: Jump.
Knuckles/Sonic: What?
Y/n: Jump!
All three of them jumped and Spark's lightning infused hand neared the ground.
Spark: Burst stream!
When his hand hit the ground, lightning streamed through the ground towards the appliances and destroyed half of them before the three could land.
Sonic: Wow!
Spark: I'll admit, I'm not as strong as I used to be. If I was in my prime, I would've destroyed all of them.
With the X-Tornado.
They got to a water plant and some appliances met them.
Amy: Okay!
Amy easily swatted them away with her hammer, the three made there way inside to the control room and Nelson was able to get the system working again.
Tails: It looks okay.
Nelson: Well, the water supply system itself has been restored. But I'm afraid something must be jamming the main sluice gate and whatever it is, is blocking the flow of water.
Amy: Is there any way you can fix it?
Nelson: There's only one way, Amy, but it's not going to be easy.
He made a call to Chuck who picked it up.
Chuck: What's happening, son?
Nelson: (on the phone: Well, I was able to restore the main Supply system. But there seems to be something in the way of the sluice gate so the water isn't getting out. We've got to get that gate open and fast.)
Chuck: I'll take care of it.
Chuck and Mr. Tanaka got into the helicopter as Chris and Lindsey watched from the balcony.
Chris: Mom, can't I please go too?
Lindsey: Now, Chris-
Chris: Ah, please let me. Honest, I already feel a lot better. Come on, I promise I'll be okay.
Lindsey touched his forehead to check his temperature.
Lindsey: Well, if you really truly want to go, I'll let you. But under one condition. I'm coming along with you, okay?
Chris: Sure, it's okay!
Back at Station Square.
They were still fighting the appliances as Eggman watched.
Eggman: (laughing) When battling a washing machine, one can't be wishy-washy. My, these modern household conveniences certainly are inconvenient, aren't they, Sonic and Y/n.
Decoe: Hey, Bocoe, they sure do look worn out, don't they?
Bocoe: You can say that again. A part of me feels bad for them. But I could always have that part removed I suppose.
Bokkun: Wow, just look at them. They're really mangling those machines.
Sonic: Man, I'm running out of steam.
Knuckles: I can't keep this up much longer.
Chaos: We still have three minutes left before I use water again.
Y/n: You guys just find somewhere to rest.
Spark: We'll take it from here.
With the helicopter.
The helicopter landed on a dam and they all got out in front of a red wheel.
Chuck: Listen up, the main sluice gate's been destroyed for good. Which means our only choice to open up this valve. All right, now, everybody get into position.
They all grabbed the wheel and used all their strength to turn it, but to no avail. That's when the X-Tornado flew in.
Chris: Here comes Dad.
The X-Tornado landed next to the helicopter and everyone in it got out.
Nelson: What are you doing here, son? Shouldn't you be at home in bed?
Chris: I had to come and help. It's my responsibility.
Nelson: That's my boy.
Lindsey: We've got work to do, darling.
Nelson: Right.
Nelson, Amy and Tails grabbed the wheel and with their help it finally started to move which made the water flow.
Chris: We did it, we did it.
Nelson: Good job, dear.
Lindsey: Oh, darling.
Sonic and Knuckles used hoses to defeat the appliances while Y/n, Spark and Chaos destroyed the ones they missed.
Sonic: Well, I guess that does it.
Knuckles: Yeah.
Y/n: It was touch and go there for a second, but I knew we would pull through.
Eggman: Impossible! I could have sworn we cut off the water supply.
Decoe: Someone must have turned it back on, doctor.
Bocoe: Looks like your plan is a washout, Doctor.
Eggman: And just when we were this close to stopping Sonic and Y/n once and for all!
Bokkun: I thought they were goners, but they sure showed us, didn't they?
Decoe: Well, what is the plan?
Bocoe: Yeah, Doctor, what do we do now?
Eggman: On to the next strategy.
They flew away.
Chaos: Y/n-
Y/n: I know, I saw.
Back at the dam.
Chuck: Well, what do we do now? We've got a City full of defective dishwashers and mashed up microwaves.
Nelson: If I stay on the job, clean up should be a piece of cake.
Chris: How about pie?
Everyone broke out into laughter.
To be continued.
