It is nighttime and Y/N, Sonic, and their friends, minus Tails, are seated around the table for supper. Sonic is eating an apple.

"Let's start with our first course. Which knife and fork should we use?" Ella asked.

Amy studies the silverware before selecting the outermost fork and knife.

"Uh... These!"

"I agree." Cream said.

"Chao chao!" Cheese said.

"That's right! You're such smart children. And what good manners!"

"Chao!"

"I don't see why we have to learn all this "etiquette" baloney in the first place." Sonic said, not paying attention.

"Sonic!" Y/N smacked his arm, glaring at him.

"Don't worry, Y/N. My mom says it's important to learn good manners so we can eat properly." Chris said.

"Well, I never learned anything about manners and I've been eating my while life."

Y/N sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. Tanaka leans in toward Sonic as he bites into an apple.

"Sonic, kindly use your fruit knife."

"I wonder what's keeping Tails? He should be back by now." Chuck asked.

Everyone stops as they hear laughter. They see Bokkun flying into the room. Notably, he is wearing a baseball cap.

"Sorry, I didn't know it was meal time. But Dr. Eggman's got a real important message for ya!"

Sonic and Tanaka immediately confront Bokkun.

"Not again!"

"How dare you barge in on us like this?! You need to learn some manners!"

"Eh, that's what you say."

Bokkun turns on the television he is carrying.

"Good evening, Sonic and Y/N. I suggest you take a look out your window." Eggman said in the TV.

"Window?"

Sonic, Y/N, Chris, and Chuck head to the window.

"What is it?" Chuck asked.

"That light's coming from a Chaos Emerald!" Cream gasped.

"Is she right?" Chris asked.

"You're half right, Cream. But that's not just one Chaos Emerald." Sonic said.

"Correct. We both want those Emeralds, but why not be good sports about it? That's why I suggest you suit up and meet me over..."

He disappears and returns wearing his baseball gear.

"...at the Diamond Stadium!"

"Diamond Stadium?" Tanaka questioned.

"What for?" Chuck asked.

"I challenge you and your friends to a game of winner-take-all baseball!" he laughs as the television's screen fades to black.

"You guys might be a little rusty, so how about some batting practice?" Bokkun asked with an evil smile.

"Uh-oh." Sonic said.

Bokkun replaces the television with a baseball bat. He tosses a ball into the air, then spins the bat wildly, hitting many balls in the direction of everyone else in the room. Amy and Cream duck while Chris, Sonic, Y/N, Tanaka, and Chuck try to avoid the balls. Finally, Ella grabs Bokkun.

"You got a decent swing, but you keep hitting it foul!"

Ella throws Bokkun out the window.

"What kind of pitch was that?" Chris asked.

"I think it was a screwball." Chuck said.

"We have to get to that stadium!" Sonic said.

Soon everyone is driving to Diamond Stadium with their baseball equipment, and Sonic runs ahead of them, while Y/N rocket skated. When they got there, Eggman is here along with Tails and Knuckles. Sonic and Y/N zoomed in, circling Tails and Knuckles a few times, and stopped in front of them.

"Hey. How's it goin', Knuckles?" Sonic greeted.

"Hi, Knuckles! Great to see you again!" Y/N smiled.

"Well, if it isn't Sonic and Y/N. I thought you weren't going to show up, so I took one of the Emeralds and I was just collecting the second. But now that you're here, maybe we can play ball." Eggman said.

"Alright,  just give us back that Chaos Emerald!" Sonic demanded.

"All in good time, my speedy little opponent. But first let me introduce you to my fellow teammates."

A massive dropship appears overhead. A beam of light appears underneath the dropship, and several E-21 Ballios robots are beamed down to the ground.

"They're scaring me, Amy!" Cream whimpered.

"It's okay." Amy assured her.

Soon, Eggman stands with his entire Ballios baseball team.

"Not too shabby, eh? Now why don't we knock off the pre-game ceremonies and get to the reason we're all here. It's now game time!"

"Let's play ball!" Bocoe and Decoe yelled.

"You can't have your game here!" Tails exclaimed.

"Wait. It just so happens old Grandpa Chuck here's a big baseball fan from way back." Chuck said.

Tails looks up in confusion.

"A nice, friendly game of baseball sounds like a great idea to me."

"What? But Chuck..."

Eggman laughs.

"Ah, so you're Chuck, are you? Well, it's been a great pleasure to finally meet you. A ball game must sound most exciting after being cooped up in that laboratory of yours day after day."

"Hey! If you want to have a ball game, then you have to have it someplace else! Isn't anybody listening to me?!" Tails exclaimed again.

"Well, Eggman, if the others are up for it, I would be more than happy to accept your challenge." Chuck declared.

"But you can't have your game here! You're gonna ruin all the beautiful turf!!"

"What's that loudmouth fox getting so bent out of shape for?" Decoe asked.

"Who knows." Bocoe shrugged.

"Hey! I'll have you know this stadium means a lot to my friend!"

"It's okay, Tails." a man's voice said.

Tails looks up at the man who stepped up behind him. He's a chubby adult male with brownish gray hair and caucasian skin. He wears blue and orange cap with a letter "D", blue jacket, white shirt, red tie, grey pants, and black shoes.

"Only a matter of time before it's demolished anyway."

"Have I seen you somewhere?" Chuck asked, feeling as if he knows him.

"Maybe during the seventh inning stretch. My name's Albert Butler. I'm the head groundskeeper here." Albert said.

"Ah! I thought you looked familiar. I've seen you on television! You were good friends with the owner of the Diamonds, Elmer Johnson, right?"

"Wow, you know him?" Chris said.

"...Elmer and I don't talk much anymore."

Chuck cries happily.

"This is such an honor to think that I can play baseball in the world-famous Diamond Stadium!"

"Stop blubbering and let's play baseball!" Eggman growled, feeling impatient.

"Okay." Amy said.

"How do we play?" Cream asked.

"Chao chao?" Cheese asked.

"Alright, everybody! Time for the Chaos Emerald Baseball Playoff!"

Eggman pushes Chuck aside.

"It's the First Annual Eggman Intergalactic Baseball Challenge!"

"This is sad." Knuckles sweatdropped.

"And totally embarrassing." Chris added while sweatdropping.

"Mhm." Y/N nodded in agreement.

Tanaka is stretching his legs.

"One, two, one, two..."

Sonic is sitting on a Ballios' head.

"Does he have to be on our team?"

"Are we going to play too?" Cream asked Amy.

"I don't see why not."

"Chao chao!" Cheese said.

Tanaka is still stretching while Eggman is doing some warm-up bat swings.

"Hey Grandpa, I'm not so sure this baseball game is such a good idea. What if Eggman's got something up his sleeve?"

"Chris, you may be right. For all we know, that guy could be using a corked bat."

"That's not exactly what I meant..."

"Let's decide which team will be first to bat. Rock, paper-"

"You can't be serious!" Knuckles cut him off.

All eyes turn to the echidna.

"You do know what will happen if Dr. Eggman wins, don't you? He won't just be winning the game, but the Chaos Emeralds, too. If Eggman wins this game, it'll mean catastrophe for all of us."

"I'd say that's nothing but stinking thinking!" Eggman insulted him.

"Why ruin everyone's fun?" Chuck asked.

"C'mon Knuckles, don't you wanna play?" Amy said.

"Don't be a chicken!"

"Chao chao-chao chao!"

"Me? Chicken?" Knuckles asked, feeling angry.

"Perhaps Mr. Knuckles is simply afraid to play a game of baseball, hm?" Tanaka teased.

"Afraid? I'm not afraid of anything!" Knuckles growled, feeling more angry.

"Great! Then you'll play, huh?" Sonic smirked.

"Please. At least just play. Do it for us, for me." Y/N pleaded, staring into his eyes as he couldn't say no to those eyes he admired.

Knuckles then exasperated.

"...Alright! You asked for it! You want a team player, I'll give you a team player! Let's get this game on!"

"That's the spirit!" Y/N cheered.

Knuckles blush and happy to hear her cheering him on and not making fun of him or tease him. Y/N doesn't like how everyone teases him when they are trying to get him to play, but if feels like they're insulting him without thinking about his feelings. Sonic noticed the way Knuckles acts around Y/N and gave him the glare, keeping a closer eye on him for anything suspicious.

Finally, it is time for the game to begin. Decoe serves as the umpire.

"Let's play ball!"

Chris is first at bat.

"Bring it on!"

The pitcher Ballios pitches an extremely fast ball, and the catcher Ballios catches it before Chris can react.

"Strike one."

Chris' jaw drops, and Sonic whistles in amazement.

"Strike two."

The strikes keep mounting up.

"Strike three. One out."

Chris walks back to the bench with his head hanging.

"How could anybody hit a ball that fast?"

Eggman chuckles.

"Loser! Okay boys, send in the next sucker!"

Y/N glared at him, wanting to throw her katana near his head where the egg will easily crack.

Tails is next to bat.

"It'll probably be a fastball."

The Ballios stretches its arm until it is near Tails, then gently tosses the ball to the catcher.

"Strike one."

"Hey Umpire! That's not fair!" Tails yelled, feeling ticked off.

"What do you want? It's not my fault he's got long arms." Decoe shrugged.

Amy is next to bat. She is using her hammer as a bat.

"Give me your best pitch, ball boy!"

The Ballios pitcher throws the ball.

"I got it!"

She successfully hits the ball.

"Alright!" Chris cheered.

"We might not lose after all." Knuckles said.

"I wouldn't be so sure.." Y/N mumbled.

In a surprise move, one Ballios fielder throws another into the air, catching the ball before it can leave the stadium.

"She's out!" Decoe said.

"Huh?... But I thought..."

"I knew it.." Y/N sighed.

Eggman laughs and later, Amy is the pitcher after the two teams have switched sides.

"Now I'll show 'em what I can do. I'm a much better pitcher anyway."

She pitches the ball, which results in a beanball as the Ballios batter falls apart.

"Uh... Sory 'bout that!"

As Amy pitches again, a Ballios moves out from behind Cream. The Ballios batter does not hit the ball, and Tanaka, the catcher, catches it and throws it to Tails, the first-baseman.

"Strike!"

Tails watches as the Ballios approaches, then leaps clear over him to get to first base.

"Safe!"

"Losing isn't fun..." Tails said, turning to the readers.

At the next play, the ball is hit way into the air.

"And it's out of the park!"

But Sonic runs up to the top of the scoreboard and catches the ball.

"Home run. Home run." Decoe called out.

"You caught it, Sonic, but if it's outside the fence, it doesn't count." Chuck said as Y/N facepalmed.

"Huh, who says we gotta play by the rules anyway? Cut me some slack!"

Later, the Ballios pitcher pitches the ball, but it is batted back, shattering the pitcher.

"Sorry! That's a hit!"

Y/N was next for a bat.

"Bring it on!"

Ballios threw the ball fast, but she hit it back very hard and it went right out of the park.

"H-Home run!" Decoe stuttered.

Y/N quickly ran without using her rocketskates around the bases and touched the home base. Her friends cheered as well as Sonic as he walk over to her.

"Great job, little sis!" he said, ruffling her spikes.

"Stop that..! I'm not little..!" Y/N whined, swatting him away.

Knuckles is up next as he bats the ball and begins running the bases.

"Sad to say, but it's a home run." Decoe said.

They all cheered and Y/N ran over to him after he touched the home base and gave him a high-five as he did. Now Sonic is getting more suspicious as he rubbed his chin with a thoughtful look. The score stands at 35-32 in Dr. Eggman's favor. Knuckles and Y/N then noticed Scarlet Garcia from the TV and her crews are setting up as she stare at the camera with a microphone.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This Scarlet Garcia with a live report from Diamond Stadium. There appears to be a most unusual baseball game happening right this moment. The notorious Dr. Eggman and a team of robots are playing a game against Sonic and friends here at the stadium, the soon-to-be former home of the Diamonds. This is certain to become sports history. This is Scarlet Garcia reporting. Stay tuned to SSTV for continuous coverage of this momentous game."

"We're closing in on 'em! Now let's give it our best shot! Tanaka!" Chuck said, feeling excited.

"Yes sir!"

"I'm putting in a pinch hitter for you."

"Huh?"

"It's Cheese!"

"Chaaaooo!"

The Ballios pitcher analyzes a tiny strike zone, sweatdrops, and pitches the ball, only to get a ball all four times.

"Ball one! ... Ball two! ... Ball three! ... Ball four! Take your base." Decoe said.

"Chao!"

Cheese moves to first base.

"You big loser! You call yourself a pitcher?!" Eggman yelled at the Ballios pitcher.

Soon, Cream takes her position.

"Play ball!"

The Ballios pitcher prepares to pitch the ball.

"Oh Mr. Pitcher~?" Cream started making cute puppy eyes that made Y/N want to faint.

The Ballios pitcher pauses mid-pitch.

"Could you... maybe not throw the ball too hard? I've never played before."

The Ballios pitcher begins blushing and it drops the ball.

"Ball! Batter takes first base."

Cream runs to first base.

"Thank you, Mr. Pitcher~!"

"I oughta throw you on the scrap heap!!" Eggman growled.

Soon, Knuckles hits another ball successfully and runs the bases.

"All right, Knuckles! Another home run!" Chuck cheered.

"That means we're tied!" Amy said.

"Huh? Look, everybody!" Chris said.

Everyone turns to see that the bleachers are filling up with fans.

"Hey, hey! Yeah!" Fan 1 said.

"Hey, you guys! Hit a homer over this way!" Fan 2 said.

"Huh?" questioned Chuck.

"Where did all these people come from?" Albert asked.

They are now tied. Sonic bats the ball and runs to first base just as the Ballios at first base is calling to receive the ball.

"You strike out that squirt or else!" Eggman growled.

The next batter is Chris. He shuts his eyes tight as the Ballios pitcher throws a super fast ball.

"Strike one!"

"Oh no. What if I let the whole team down?" Chris worriedly said, struggling to keep up.

"Strike two!"

"Time out!!" Sonic and Y/N called out, seeing enough and walked up to Chris.

"Hey, Chris!" Sonic said. "I know you can get a hit. There's nothing to it, Chris. All you have to do is concentrate."

"...That's easy for you to say. He's pitching so fast."

"So he throwing a couple of fastballs. You can't let that get you down, pal. Just keep on tryin' and don't give up!" Y/N said and winked at him.

"Now get out there and do your best!" both the siblings said in unsion.

"Okay." Chris nodded with a determined look.

Gameplay resumes.

"Play ball!" Decoe said.

The Ballios pitcher pitches the ball. Chris wings the bat so hard that his cap falls off. He misses.

"Strike three!"

"At least I tried my best."

"Chris, run!!" Chuck yelled.

Chris looks up in amazement to see a Ballios fielder chasing after the ball. As Sonic runs to home base, Chris slides into first base in the nick of time.

"Safe!"

"I did it! I got to first base!" Chris cheered.

Sonic and Y/N both gave him thumbs-up and wink as Chris' friends cheer. Suddenly, one of Ballios' head flies over to Sonic and fastens itself to his head.

"What's that?" Sonic asked.

Eggman and Bocoe appear "frantic".

"Oh dear! My robot! It's malfunctioning! It'll explode any minute now! Run, Sonic! Hurry! Run away!"

"Grrr!!" Y/N growled.

"Sonic, what are we gonna do?" Chris worriedly asked.

"He's trying to get us to forfeit the game! I've gotta get rid of this thing quick!" Sonic said and darts all over the diamond in a vain attempt to loosen the Ballios head. "Hey, you're really hanging on!"

"Sonic!" Knuckles called. "Jump, Sonic! Hurry!"

"Okay!"

Sonic leaps into the air. Knuckles does the same.

"Hey, watch it, will ya?!"

Knuckles punches the Ballios head off of Sonic, causing it to explode.

"Thanks! You're a lifesaver!"

Y/N sighed in relief and looked up to see Eggman begins rising up in the Eggmobile, laughing as Sonic and Knuckles land on the ground.

"You may have beaten me at baseball, but with this shiny blue Chaos Emerald snuggled ever so safely in my pocket, I'm the real winner after all, aren't I?"

Laughing, he flies away, and the Ballios dropship follows. Y/N couldn't take it and grabbed the ball and threw it in the air before she jumped up and roundhouse kicked it. The ball flew fast towards Eggman and hits him on the head, leaving a big bump.

"OWWWW!!!"

"And stay out!!!"

The spectators cheered.

"Nice kick, Y/N." Knuckles said, whistling in amazement. "That will leave a bruise for him."

"Thanks, Knuckles. And yeah, it sure will." Y/N smiled.

"Now he has both the Chaos Emeralds!" Amy said.

Nevertheless, everyone are cheering wildly.

"As you can see, there's been quite a turnout for this event. The game was, of course, the last to be played here at the stadium." Scarlet said.

A man with brown hair and brown skin, wearing light blue jacket, yellow tie, light blue pants, and black shoes walks out onto the diamond.

"Could that be...?" she gasped.

"Hey look! That's Elmer Johnson!" Chris gasped.

Elmer walks up to Albert.

"I was watching at home. I must say, it was quite a remarkable game. It's all thanks to you, Al, and I... Well, Al, I can't help but think how much you've done for the Diamonds over the years and what a great friend you've been."

"Thank you." Albert said.

"I'm thinking of moving the Diamond turf over to the new stadium instead. I sure could use your help."

"Sure thing!"

The two shake hands.

"Well, we may have lost the Chaos Emerald, but I think we've learned an important lesson about working together. And I'm sure you'll agree we'll be even stronger next time we meet Eggman." Chuck said.

"Yep. We sure did." Y/N nodded.
