In space, Chris in his spaceship destroys a Metarex Fighter. Amy's spaceship is also in the fight.

"Take this!" she shouted.

Her ship's hammer makes short work of three other Metarex Fighters. Four others fly in toward the Typhoon and try to blast it, but a force field blocks them. Lightning arcs from the vortex they are fighting near as the Sonic Driver launches Sonic and Y/N into several more Metarex Fighters, destroying them. But that is just the beginning. All three Metarex general's battleships, as well as hundreds more Metarex Fighters, are waiting to challenge them.

"We're in big trouble." Cosmo said.

"We'll be fine. Have faith in Sonic and Y/N." Tails assured her.

"This started three hours ago. We detected a Chaos Emerald that was moving."

All that has transpired before was a flash-forward. The Typhoon emerges from hyperspace to see a spaceship being pursued by Metarex Fighters.

"More Metarex!" Cream exclaimed.

"Chao chao!"

"Somebody's in trouble!" Sonic said.

They watch the screen as the spaceship nimbly dodges the fighters.

"We're getting a signal. There's a Chaos Emerald somewhere on board that craft." Chris informed.

"They're in great danger! If what Chris says is true, then those Metarex will stop at nothing to get what they want. We must help them!" Cosmo said.

Tails looks up.

"She's right." Y/N agreed.

Sonic gave Chris a thumb up.

"What do you say, Chris?"

Chris nods.

"Okay."

"As captain, I hereby veto that plan. We have our safety to think about." Tails said.

But Sonic, Y/N, and Chris are already gone.

"Later, kids!"

"See you!"

"Looks like we're too late, Tails." Cream pointed out.

"Chao!" Cheese said in agreement.

Tails looks up in surprise before sighing.

"Why do they even bother having a captain anyway?"

Chris takes off in his spaceship. Sonic and Y/N rides on each of his wing.

"We'll be on that mystery ship in no time."

"I can already see it."

"Hope they'e okay out there."

They can see the other spaceship dodging lasers in a wild manner.

"Man, they really got that thing surrounded!"

"It's impressive in its own way."

"Yeah. You're right. Looks pretty bad."

The other spaceship's robot pilot wipes its brow. Sonic and Y/N launches themself toward the Metarex Fighters, destroying most of them, before chasing the blue spaceship.

"Missile launch!"

Chris fires a rocket at the last Metarex Fighter.

"Good shot!"

"Nice one!"

The other spaceship teleports away.

"It warped!"

"Like Shadow does..."

Everyone is now back on the Typhoon. Chris is typing.

"You don't know where it warped to?" Y/N asked Chris.

Tails looks up from his maintenance work.

"Judging from that ship's capabilities, it couldn't have warped very far."

"Due to the Metarex universe's unique static and space distortions, it's hard to search for it. But we'll figure it out soon." Chris informed.

"This is Knuckles in the engine room! Chris, Y/N, and Tails, come here quick!" Knuckles called over the radio.

Chris, Y/N, and Tails are now in the engine room with Knuckles. The Master Emerald's shape appears to be distorted.

"What's going on? Explain!" Knuckles demanded.

"It might be due to the Metarex universe." Tails replied.

"What? Then what's going to happen to the Master Emerald?"

"I never imagined something like this could happen!"

"Listen, this ship needs the Master Emerald!"

"I know! That's why I'm trying to figure out what to do!"

Chris tries to ease the tension between Knuckles and Tails.

"Guys, come on..."

But they weren't listening to him until Y/N angrily shouted as she went between them.

"That's enough, you two! We don't have time for this! You're both acting like children! Knuckles, just please trust Chris and Tails on this one. I'm sure they'll figure it out. But arguing won't solve any problem."

Knuckles slowly nods.

"Okay. Sorry, Tails."

"No, I'm sorry too. As the 'captain', I shouldn't have lost my 'head'."

"Was that a pun? That was pretty bad." Y/N sweatdropped along with Knuckles.

Chris and Tails laugh nervously.

Tails is trying to restore the Master Emerald's shape. Y/N approaches with a tray containing a teapot and a cup.

"Hey, Tails."

Tails turns around.

"Hey, how you doing, Y/N?"

"Doing fine. You hungry?"

"I'm sorry, but I just don't have time. This modification job's a real pain. I told Chris I'd modify the energy sequencer and reconnect it to the Master Emerald with a stronger magnetic field. But if I do that, the frequencies will get out of whack. I suppose I could bypass them by going directly through the--"

Y/N tilts her head with a knowing smile.

"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to get all geeky on you again."

"Hey, it's no problem. That's why you're the smartest guy in the world who knows all of those engines. Glad I made a friend like you."

Tails laughs, blushing.

"Tails! Come up here right away! You've gotta see this!" Chris called over the radio.

He immediately becomes serious along with Y/N.

The Blue Typhoon emerges from hyperspace. There is a whirlpool full of plasma energy near them. They fly toward the whirlpool.

"Look at all that energy swirling around." Chris said.

"I don't like this. I have a feeling if we go any further, we might never come out!" Tails said.

"I'm with Tails." Cream said, looking scared.

"Chao chao..."

A screen appears, showing the blue ship inside the whirlpool.

"But we just can't give up on them now!" Cosmo said.

"Okay, I'm gonna chance it. We're goin' in."

The Typhoon flies forward. Suddenly it is struck by a plasma burst, but its shields protect it.

"I may be able to drag it out of there. Activate Tyhoon claw and nice and slow."

"Roger!"

Chris presses two buttons, and a claw reaches for the blue spaceship. However, a claw extends from the ship and snips the claw off.

"That was easier than I thought."

He removes his helmet to reveal that it is Decoe in disguise. He flashes a TV at the Typhoon crew.

"Sorry to have to cut you off, kids!"

"It's Decoe!" Chris exclaimed.

"What's he doing here?" Y/N narrowed her eyes.

Decoe flies away, back in the direction the Typhoon came from. Amy places her hands on her hips.

"Correction: That was Decoe."

"Maybe he doesn't want our help after all." Cream guessed.

A whole fleet of Metarex Fighters emerges from out of the sides of the whirlpool.

"The Metarex! It's a trap! Hang on, everybody; I'm gonna do a fast 180!" Tails exclaimed.

The Typhoon turns completely around.

"Be careful, Tails." Chris said.

They are surprised to see a battleship floating amongst the Metarex ships. The Eggman logo is unmistakable.

"Eggman! I should've known he'd join forces with them!" Sonic glared.

"What in the heck is he thinking right now?!" Y/N growled.

In the Metarex Mothership, Eggman slowly floats out of a lit background into the command room in his Eggmobile. Bokkun is with him, saluting

"All hail his honorary Metarex, Dr. Eggman!"

The door closes behind him.

"Well, Black Narcissus? What have you got to say? Don't I at least get a thank you? After all, it was I who lured Team Heroes into your galactic web."

"Not the most difficult of achievements. You will learn, Eggman, that I am not given to displays of gratitude."

"Well, just so you know, they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my finely-honed genius for deception! And there are more tricks where that came from, just so long as I'm compensated."

"Don't worry, Doctor. You will be."

Eggman looks at his watch. It reads 6:09.

"It's past 1800 hours. Let's do this, boys! Launch Operation Swarm immediately!"

"Who does that rotund wretch think he is anyway?" Zelkova growled.

"Now calm down, Zelkova. Remember it was thanks to Eggman's technical know-how that we were able to plan this operation in the first place. In addition, the master has ordered us to go along with anything the doctor says." Payleaf said.

"You can't be serious! He's nothing but a fool!"

The Eggmobile is zipping around the room.

"We're gonna conquer Sonic and Y/N! We're gonna conquer Sonic and Y/N!" Eggman and Bokkun chanted.

"Attention Metarex fighter squad! The great doctor has spoken!" Payleaf ordered.

The Metarex fleet bears down upon the Blue Typhoon.

"They're closin' in, Tails." Sonic said.

"What do we do? We can't turn around, and if we don't, we'll head straight into that black hole! Either way, we're in danger!" Cream voiced.

"Okay, I say we forge ahead and fight as hard as we can. Typhoon Tornadoes, let's move out!"

Amy stands up and turns to Tails.

"Typhoon Tornadoes?"

"It's our new team name."

"You couldn't think of anything better than Typhoon Tornadoes? The whole 'Tornado' thing is so cliché."

"Think maybe we could argue about this later, Amy?" Tails said, feeling frustrated.

"Let's go, sis." Sonic said.

"I'll need to stay here." Y/N said.

"Huh? Why? We always fight together. Sibling team!"

"I know, and it's fun, but... I need to set this one out right now. I've been not feeling well lately."

Y/N looked down at her necklace.

"What do you mean?" Sonic asked, looking concern.

"I'll tell you later. Go on out and fight."

Sonic reluctantly nodded and left.

Chris' spaceship, Amy's spaceship, and a new spaceship for Cream fly toward the Metarex fleet.

"We're in big trouble." Cosmo fretted.

"We'll be fine. Have faith in Sonic. As long as we've deployed our fighters, their fleet can't afford to make careless maneuvers. Our chance will come, Cosmo!" Y/N reassured her.

Cosmo hesitantly nodded.

"How come you didn't come with your brother?"

"It's... personal."

"Is it about the misfortunetelling?"

"I guess you could say that. Although, I feel like they're right. I'm getting a little uneasy about this. But if it's true, then... I will not regret it."

"Regret it for what?"

"We'll talk about this later."

"Okay..."

Tails slightly overheard the talk and frowned, thinking if Y/N is okay. Meanwhile, Chris fires a new pair of shoes onto Sonic. A ball of pure energy appears on one of his shoes.

"Let's kick it!"

He kicks the energy ball into three Metarex ships.

"That's three points for three ships!"

Another energy ball appears.

"Well, that's inconvenient. Now onto Plan B. Of course, I haven't exactly formulated a Plan B..." Eggman chuckled.

"Have no fear, Doctor. You see, I have a Plan B of my own in store."

Payleaf's eyes glow yellow as he presses a button.

"As do I."

Narcissus also presses a button.

"What?! ... Uh... Well, so do I!"

Zelkova smashes a console.

All the spaceships fire at once. Amy dodges the lasers skillfully. Sonic and Chris set up the Metarex fighters to shoot down some of the other Metarex ships. Cream dodges a Metarex ship which accidentally hits another Metarex ship, whose particles crash into some of the other ships. They regroup and head back to the Typhoon. Chris realizes that the Metarex ships are actually attacking each other.

"They're blasting their own fighter planes, Sonic!"

Several lasers strike the gradually weakening shield of the Typhoon.

"Shields at 12%!" Cosmo looked up. "The shield's not working. They're too strong for us!"

Knuckles appears on the screen.

"At this rate, we'll be destroyed! Isn't there anything we can do?"

Cream also appears on another screen.

"The enemy fleet is moving forward!"

Her screen vanishes.

"They're planning to destroy us in an instant!" Knuckles said.

"What do you say, Tails? Do we fight?" Y/N asked in worry.

The ship continues to shake from the impacts.

"We'll use the Power Cannon. The best thing to do is to aim directly at the mothership." Tails said.

The Sonic Driver is activated as Chris flies toward it.

"Okay, Tails!"

"Targeting the enemy's large battleship!"

The targeting computers lock on to the Metarex Mothership.

"Target lock... on!"

"Okay, Sonic, get ready!"

Sonic starts his spin as the lasers continue to pummel the Typhoon.

"Prepare Power Cannon! Okay, fire!"

The Sonic Driver charges energy and fires Sonic at the Metarex Mothership.

"Let's have some fun. Star shield up!"

Eggman presses a button. Seven spaceship fly out of the sides of the tunnel and connect energy beams to form an energy net. Sonic flies directly into it.

"Sonic!" Chris shouted.

In the engine room, the energy from the net is channeled into the Master Emerald.

"Oh, no!"

Knuckles tries to touch the controls, but is electrocuted. The console explodes.

"Sonic!" Y/N shouted.

"Oh no! Sonic got zapped out there! ... What have I done...?"

Tails felt extremely guilty.

In the infirmary, Amy is tending to the injured Sonic and Knuckles with the help of Y/N as she attempts to heal them with her crystal.

"Nah, save your energy, sis. You'll need that when you're on a fight." Sonic declined.

"I'll pass on this one too. You did enough help." Knuckles agreed.

"I'm sorry I didn't go with you. If I've known this would happen..." Y/N said, feeling guilty.

"Hey, don't be so down on yourself. At least, you're okay. You would've been hurt too and I would never forgive myself for this." Sonic assured her before smiling. "Just smile."

Y/N couldn't help but teared up and started to smile at him and Knuckles.

"That blast sure did do some damage to the main engine, but I think we'll be okay just as long as we can keep it under a certain speed. We have to conserve whatever energy we've got until we can recharge that Master Emerald, okay, Tails!"

Chris sees Tails on his hands and knees, in a state of shock.

"Tails?"

He snaps to attention.

"You doin' okay?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm okay, Chris."

The three generals watch the Typhoon approaching the energy net.

"That floating playground of theirs is still chugging along. Quite impressive." Narcissus commented.

"Perhaps, but not for long. The star shield will deactivate within five minutes. We will then launch a full-scale attack against them." Bayleaf said.

All cannons lock on to the Blue Typhoon. 'DANGER' appears on Cream's screen.

"Oh no! We're gatting a danger signal! What now?"

"I'm not so sure the Typhoon can make it through another attack, Tails!" Chris called out.

Everyone looks at each other worriedly.

"I... I'm not worthy to be captain! I'm just not!"

In a fit of anger and frustration, Tails flees the bridge.

"Tails!" Cosmo called out.

Y/N was just heading back to her friends in the hallway when she saw Tails storming down the hall.

"Tails?"

He stops. There is a pause.

"...How could I do something so stupid?"

Y/N realized what he means by that as she also feel guilty too about the situation.

"Tails, you can't blame yourself for what happened."

"It's because of me Sonic and Knuckles are hurt. Face it; I don't have the right to call myself captain of anything!" Tails frowned.

"That's not true! You're a great captain, Tails! Nobody but you could be captain and you know it."

"I'm just a big failure."

She walks in front of the crestfallen Tails.

"Tails, I've known you since we're friends. In my eyes, you're not. Just think of the hundreds of times you've helped your friends when they were in trouble. I've never known anyone as brave as you."

Tails looks up.

"Really?"

"Just think of all the times you've saved your friends and me and my brother from danger. I'm proud to be under the command of such a noble captain. Because we believe in you!"

Tails' expression brightens.

"You're right...!"

Y/N nodded with a smile and grabbed his arm.

"Let's get back to our friends."

Tails nodded, feeling his heart beat a little fast at how close they are.

On bridge, Eggman appears on the viewscreen.

"How does it feel to have a sword at your throat?"

"This is because you betrayed us, Eggman!" Chris yelled. "We're ready for anything you and thouse Metarex dish out. Just try us!"

"...Who'd have thought such big talk could come from such a small fry? Betray you? We were always enemies. Where's our boy Sonic by the way? Nursing an aching knock, I presume? Well, while nurse Amy is bandaging that blockhead of his, and his little sister crying for her dear brother, here's a little bit of news for you. You have five minutes 'til that Typhoon's toast! Now if I were in your place, kid, I'd say farewell to my little friends... cause this is gonna be a blast!"

He laughs heartily as the message ends.

"Now what do we do?" Cream asked.

Now Chris is depressed.

"I don't know..."

"It's too soon to give up, Chris."

"Yeah! It's okay, gang. I got it under control!"

He looks up to see Tails and Y/N reentering the bridge.

"We've got five minutes left, and that's five minutes to win!"

"Tails! You're back!"

"Now let's take a look at this data and see how we can beat 'em."

"That sounds great, Tails!" Cream smiled.

"Roger!" Cosmo saluted.

"Chao chao chao chao!" Cheese said.

"The rear wall spins and creates a powerful magnetic field."

So they reanalyze the data. 3:20 remains on the clock.

"If we can somehow reverse the direction of the spin, then it's possible to create a new magnetic field, one that's a direct opposite of the first one." Tails explained.

"But what if we get sucked inside of there?" Cream asked worriedly.

"May be tough, but it's the only chance we've got. We'll just have to give every ounce of energy we possibly can." Chris said.

"There's just one problem we haven't thought about. In order to reverse the magnetic field, we have to use Ring Tunnel. Do you think you can do that, Y/N?"

Y/N was about to reply when a voice cut her off.

"No need. I'll do it."

They turn to see Sonic standing there. Amy is helping him stand.

"Sonic!!!"

Y/N runs over to him.

"Sonic! You shouldn't move. You need to rest."

"I'm not exactly down for the count yet, Y/N. If there's even the slight chance that this will work, then let's try it! Nothin' is gonna stop me from givin' it all I got!"

Y/N sighed.

"Alright. Just be careful. But if you're hurt again, that's on you. Not me."

Sonic nodded and looked at Tails.

"Well, Tails?"

"Alright! Then let's do it, you guys!"

The Tornado turns away from the wall. Chris' ship takes off once again, with Sonic riding the wing.

"I checked the Master Emerald, Tails. It's stable!" Cream shouted.

"Great! Keep your eye on it. Emerald stabilized! Chris, we're ready when you are. Go ahead and activate Ring Tunnel!"

"Aye-aye! ... Ring Tunnel!"

Chris fires a tunnel of energy at the energy wall. Sonic uses his jet shoes to spiral through the tunnel. Decoe begin the countdown.

"Starshield deativating in five... four... three... two... one..."

Sonic is launched into the opposing wall of energy as the first energy wall fades away, revealing the Metarex fleet. Suddenly the other wall of energy unleashes a powerful wave of energy at the Metarex ships.

"...Nothing's happening, Tails!" Amy watched.

"Now I'm scared..." Cream whimpered."

"Chao..."

Tails shows concern, then closes his eyes.

"This is gonna work... After all, I'm a captain just as Y/N said."

Sonic is electrocuted by the wall of energy before he is ejected out.

"Sonic, no!"

Chris flies out to retrieve the unconscious Sonic. He opens his cockpit, ready to catch the hedgehog.

"Sonic!"

"What are you waiting for, you imbeciles? The enemy has broken through! Fire! Fire!!" Bayleaf ordered.

All Metarex ships open fire on the Blue Typhoon.

"The fire bombs are heading right toward us! Thousands of them!"

The missiles bear down on the ship.

"Less than thirty seconds 'til they hit!"

Cosmo looks depressed.

"Tails, what now??"

"Tails." Y/N looked over at him.

Tails does not respond for a little while.

"A good captain always believes in himself. They're counting on you, Tails!"

Then his eyes snap open with determination.

"Stick it, Tails. Concentrate."

The Metarex generals wonder what Tails and his crew will do now. Chris and Sonic land back on the ship. Y/N suddenly felt something and ran off. Everyone were about to call her back but she's already gone. But there's no time as they have to deal with the Metarex.

"Okay, let's bring her in slow and steady, gang! Now hang on real tight!"

The sparking plasma energy in the tunnel affects the Master Emerald.

"We're losing engine power, Tails!" Amy shouted.

"It's the Master Emerald!" Tails gasped.

As the alarms go off, Knuckles hobbles toward the engine room. He has dropped his crutch.

"I... gotta get... to the Master Emerald!"

"Knuckles!"

He looked over to Y/N running towards him.

"Help me... get to that Master Emerald."

Y/N quickly helped him up and guided him to the engine room to the Master Emerald.

"Let this work PLEASE!" Tails shouted.

The missiles are dangerously close to the ship now, causing Amy to scream. The energy wall fires a massive burst of energy. Knuckles and Y/N finally reach the Master Emerald as she help him place his hand on it.

"The seven Chaos Emeralds are the servers... Chaos is the power... Chaos is the power enriched by the heart!"

Power is restored to the Typhoon.

"Go!"

With full power, the Typhoon flies into the energy field. It is quickly enveloped by the raw power of the field, which projects it energy toward the Metarex ships.

"How can this happen?! Unacceptable!" Bayleaf exclaimed in realization.

"Let's vamoose behind the mothership! That baby's about to blow!" Eggman said.

The energy wave destroys all the Metarex ships except for the Metarex Mothership and the Crimson Egg. The energy field and the vortex vanish, and the Typhoon now flies into open space.

"We did iiiiiit!"

Everyone smiles broadly. In the engine room, Knuckles is unconscious as Y/N held him there, looking down at him with a proud smile.

Sonic and Knuckles are back in the infirmary. Y/N and Tails are with them.

"I just... wanted to tell you guys how sorry I am." Tails looked down in dismay.

"Tails! You did wonderful out there!" Y/N complimented.

Knuckles leaned up from his spot.

"Sorry? If it weren't for you, none of us would be here. Thanks, buddy."

He turned to Y/N.

"And thank you for helping get to the Master Emerald on time."

"It's no problem, Knuckles. Glad I could help."

Y/N gave him a closed eye smile, making him look away with blushes on his cheeks.

"Yeah, thanks, pal! I mean 'captain'!"

Sonic gave Tails a wink and thumb up.

"Y/N! Knuckles! Sonic! Thanks, you guys. You're the best!" Tails beamed.

"You deserve a award for saving our lives." Y/N said.

"And what's that?" Tails asked.

Y/N leaned down and kissed his forhead. Tails felt his fur and his tail go up again as his face turned red as Knuckles' fur as he froze.

"My hero."

Tails then fainted on the spot, causing her and her brother to laugh while Knuckles pouted that he didn't get a kiss. Y/N though noticed it and smirked and walked over and gave Knuckles a kiss on the cheek. This made him froze as well and fainted on his bed, making Y/N laugh even harder. Sonic just shook his head. The Blue Typhoon cruises onward.
