Ohhh boy...

This was it. You were about to show everyone exactly what you could do. You just hoped your training was worth it. A few days had passed since you joined the Resistance, you hadn't ceased in your training. You couldn't. Not if you wanted to fight.

But it all passed so quickly. You weren't sure if you were ready. And now you were sitting in an aircraft, shaking and gripping onto your wispon. That's what the weapon was called. However your wispon had a special name, it was called Burst, for it's fire abilities.

You took a deep breath, leaning your head back. How did you end up here? Closing your eyes, you remember what happened yesterday. It was such great news for everyone except you.

~Flashback~

You were currently training, aiming your wispon at a target and pulling the trigger. Flames erupted from the weapon, singeing the target to black. You were getting better.

Suddenly an alarm went off, and you jumped. That meant trouble. You gripped your weapon tightly, before running out of the training room and down the hall. The others were all running to the control room, which was where you had met everyone.

Once inside the room, the alarms ceased. Knuckles stood at the computer, before he turned his gaze to everyone.

"It's Sonic. He's alive!"

"I knew it!" Amy jumped happily. You had learnt that she had a... 'Crush' on him. That's how she said it, but you knew it was obsession.

"He is?!" Silver smiled, "Well where is he?"

Knuckles sighed, tapping on the computer screen, "Eggman's base... We found out Eggman has him captured. They've been torturing him for the past 6 months."

Everyone had gasped.

"Well we need to help him!" Amy yelled, "Lets storm Eggman's base! We need Sonic back!"

Your head pounded in your chest. Were you really going to attack Eggman's base? Of all places for your first attack to be?

"We need to prepare." Silver cut in, "We should head out tomorrow. Its as soon as we'll be able to."

Knuckles nodded, "And we should split up, Eggman won't be able to keep his eyes on all of us at once."

-Oh great... Even better-

You stepped forward, raising your hand. Knuckles turned to you and chuckled.

"You can join us Rookie, we'll need all the help we can get rescuing him."

Your (e/c) eyes widened. No. You didn't want to go. No way were you going to be ready. Not for such a big mission like this. You tried to say something else, but Espio cut you off.

"So what's the plan?"

Knuckles nodded, before going back to the computer, "There are three entrances. Amy and I will stay behind. Silver, you'll take the north entrance. Espio, you and the Chaotix will take the west. Rookie, you can take the south."

Everyone nodded. You sighed, there was no way of getting out of it. This was why you signed up to begin with anyway. The echidna walked towards you, before handing you an ear piece.

"Put this on, that way you can hear us talking tomorrow. We'll be able to help you that way."

You nodded, taking it and putting it on.

So now you sat here, waiting to attack Eggman's base. The small aircraft landed and you jumped out, looking up at the tall building. How were you going to find Sonic in there?

"Now, there are about 13 levels to Eggman's base. As far as we know, Sonic is on the 9th. Head there, and try to not set off any-"

Alarms made you flinch and you looked around, robots started to stream out from everywhere. Your eyes were wide as you watched. How were you meant to defeat these? Your Burst seemed to feel heavier in your hands before you took a breath and started running.

Robots took their stances in front of you, but that didn't stop you from lighting them aflame. It seemed to completely disintegrate the robots, leaving no trace behind.

-Wow... This should be a breeze-

You smiled to yourself, running through the base. Every robot that appeared was destroyed by your wispon, if not, you jumped on them using your grappling hook Vector had given you. Already you were like a professional on the grappling hook, so you didn't hesitate to pull yourself up to the next level.

"It's like a video game..." You mumbled to yourself, extinguishing more robots, "Which means it will get harder as I 'level up'..."

"What was that Rookie?" Knuckles asked, and your cheeks turned red.

"N-Nothing..."

A loud bang went off in the distance, before Silver's voice yelled in your ear, "There's too many! It's like they're coming out of nowhere! I have to retreat..."

"Then do that." Knuckles stated, "If you know you won't make it through then don't attempt to. The last thing we need is to lose another friend."

"Roger that..." The silver hedgehog sounded disappointed.

"We're surrounded." Espio cut in, "We can't get through either. We'll have to retreat as well."

Knuckles let out a sigh, "Okay.. Rookie, it's up to you then. Get in, grab Sonic, and get out."

"O-Okay..." You nodded.

And, as you continued, the number of robots thinned out. Their strength had changed, and their types became things like flying types, etc. They were getting harder to destroy.

Finally, you were on the last level, there was only three robots left. You smirked to yourself before aiming your Burst at them. They had surrounded you, but you weren't worried, the fire could easily get rid of the scrap metal.

So you pulled the trigger, frowning. The wispon gave a sputter, then a small shake. You pulled the trigger again, nothing.

Well shit.

The robots closed in on you and you stepped back, stumbling into the wall. You were surrounded and couldn't call for help. No one else was here to help. Besides, what kind of hero asks for help?

Your ears pressed back as the robots all aimed their guns at you. Not even the first mission, you didn't even survive the first mission. You were as good as dead...

Until a blue blur shot through the three robots, causing them to explode. You looked up, shaking at the person who stood above you.

"Easy there! Everything's cool." A blue hedgehog held his hand out, smiling down at you and emerald eyes shining brightly. He pulled you up with no struggle, and you couldn't stop staring at his eyes...

Your cheeks reddened as he chuckled, and you realised you were staring.

"Are you here to rescue me?" He asked, and you nodded. He smiled more.

"Can't tell you how much I appreciate it. It's been a while since I've seen a friendly face..." You turned your gaze as he gestured at the remains of the robots.

"Hey Rookie," Your ear twitched to Knuckles' voice, "You still in one piece?"

"Oh sure, don't even bother to ask how I am." Sonic rolled his eyes with a chuckle, waving his hand as if to dismiss the red echidna's question.

"Sonic! I'm so glad!" Amy's voice screamed in your ear. You flinched and whined, pulling the device out of your ear. Sonic jumped as well, an alarmed look on his face, before he sighed and shook his head.

"Hold up Amy. We're all happy Sonic is alive, but he won't be for long if he doesn't get out of that egg in a hurry." Knuckles said urgently.

Sonic seemed to stare at the earpiece in thought, his eyes flashing with a sort of darkness, before he looked up at you and smiled. You smiled back, before motioning to an escape aircraft that was floating outside the building. Sonic nodded and you both started moving.

"Your concern is touching Knuckles." Sonic said sarcastically, smirking slightly.

You couldn't stop the giggle as you broke out in a run towards the vehicle. Using the grappling hook, you swung into the aircraft, turning to see Sonic run in after you.

"Impressive." He chuckled, hands on his hips, "So, you're a part of my team now hm?"

Your cheeks reddened, and you nodded slowly, sitting on a bench that had been build into the vehicle. He walked over, sitting across from you, his emerald eyes staring into your own. Your cheeks reddened more, and you turned away. You hated attention.

"So... What's your name?" He asked.

You rubbed your arm, staring at the seat next to you. You couldn't even manage to utter a sound around him, at least you could stutter with the others, but for some reason, Sonic seemed... Intimidating...

If that was the right term anyway.

He raised a brow as he stared at you, waiting for an answer, "Well? Can't you speak?"

You nodded, biting your lip, "I-I..."

You just couldn't talk, it's like he was forcing you to be quiet just by sitting there. Even if he was slouched on his knee, his head resting in his hand. His eyes held a curious, but kind gaze, so why was it so hard for you to talk? Of all people to trust, Sonic was the best.

Yet you couldn't do it. You lowered your head, your ears down in embarrassment. Why couldn't the aircraft just crash and put you out of your humiliation? Your ears twitched to a sigh and you looked up. The blue hedgehog was rubbing his face tiredly, and you finally took in his appearance.

His quills were a mess, sticking out in places and looking like he ran through a tornado. He also seemed thin, thinner than you thought he would be. Maybe they didn't feed him as much as they should have... Then again, he was being tortured. He had dark circles under his eyes, which had also lost their sparkle.

He looked up and smiled, "I take it your shy... Don't worry, I won't push for your name..."

You nodded and lowered your gaze. That was the second time he caught you staring at him, yet he didn't seem to mind...

"Hey Rookie..." You looked up again, the hedgehog was laying himself down, covering his eyes with his arms, "Wake me up when we get there, yeah?"
