Hey guys! This What if is making a return.

I'm going to be honest with you, I had no idea that Shadow being made by Mother Wisp going to be THIS popular.

(Part 1 currently has more than 200 views around the time I post this, making it the most viewed page in the entire book!)

I guess maybe some thanks to Mrknuc to pointing this out, though I do apologize for ignoring him for a while as I was working.

I originally thought no one would care about it since it was going to be a different take on a What if that a Youtuber did years ago, though I guess I'm the only person to put more context to it.

Let me know in the comments whatever it is about this What if that attracts you guys.

Is it Shadow having a mother in this What if?

Maria surviving this time?

Or the fact this is the only timeline Shadow will ever be a hero almost 100% of the way?

Anyways, the action in the Classic games will be cut short due to the fact that Shadow being in them would cut the whole fun out just by beating Robotnik himself.

The real focus of the What if is going to be the Adventure games since that's where the most crazy stuff is happening.

With that out of the way, let's begin!

Sonic 1

When we last left off Shadow, it had been around 50 years since him and Maria left the Ark to live a nice life on the surface of the planet.

The Wisp/Hedgehog hybrid had basically become a major protector of the planet, even if some of what he did was stopping small time crooks.

The world was a safer place thanks to Shadow, though he knew this wouldn't last forever.

There was two problems in his life that may question his capabilities as a protector.

1) The arrival of Black Doom and the Black Arms invasion

2) Whenever he runs out of energy and becomes Nega Shadow

He knew he would need to prepare someone to be his equal in power so they could be there where he messes up, less he becomes the cause of the end.

But while most Mobians and rare examples of humans had lots of Chaos energy, they don't exactly have the ability to use them, let alone Hyper Go On energy.

There had to be someone out there who did have the potential, he just didn't know where.

Shadow then sees some commotion going on over in Green Hill Zone, robots filling the area as animals were taken from their homes and put into containers to save for future robots.

The hedgehog rolled his eyes in annoyance at Maria's cousin trying the "taking over the world to build an amusement park" gig he keeps doing.

Just before he was about to stop Ivo Robotnik himself and bring him in to have a heart to heart, he sees a blue blur dash by, destroying robots left and right.

Curious, Shadow follows and soon finds out that it's a young hedgehog, speeding off a few Machs faster than most vehicles would go.

The hybrid could sense and practically feel the Chaos energy coming off of the hedgehog, somehow stronger than any Mobian combined with another.

This guy wasn't as strong as Shadow, but with the right training, this could be the equal the hybrid hero was needing.

He waits for the hedgehog to beat Robotnik himself, though he was almost about to jump in to save him a few times.

Once the doctor was defeated and fled, Shadow approached the young boy.

"That was a good job you did there." Shadow comments to him. "And I thought I was the only fast one around here."

"That's what you'll get from the Fastest Thing Alive, AKA me." The hedgehog tells him with a confident smirk. "And who are you?"

"The name is Shadow." Shadow tells him as he came out into full view.

Sonic is surprised to have finally met him, having heard lots of stories about how he defeated numerous villains. The hybrid was practically his hero and idol!

After watching Sonic fanboy over him for several minutes, Shadow finally speaks up and asks him where his parents are.

Sonic stops and tells him that he lives on his own, which surprises the hybrid.

It's then Sonic's turn to be surprised when Shadow offers to take him as his son so he wouldn't have to be alone.

Sonic agrees and later meets Maria, who at this point is in her 60's since the day she left the Ark.

Shadow is actually a good father to Sonic, probably inheriting that loving nature from his mother, always showing concern for Sonic, protecting him and even teaching him.

Sonic does get annoyed often whenever Shadow worries too much for him, but after learning about his family's past, he kind of lets it slide and accepts it's how Shadow is.

Sonic 2

At this point, Shadow has trained Sonic in numerous Chaos energy abilities and even helped him master spin dash and homing attack.

Sonic completely owns Robotnik this time around, and it's made even easier with his first ally ever: Tails.

Shadow is impressed like Sonic that Tails can build impressive stuff and even give the Tornado it's own improvements.

After Robotnik is beaten and the Death Egg destroyed, Shadow asks Tails if he has parents, and just like Sonic, Tails reveals he's orphaned too.

Shadow offers to adopt Tails like he did Sonic, which the fox accepted, making the two young boys brothers.

Sonic 3 (and Knuckles)

The events of this story stay the same, except Shadow helps Super Sonic fight the Death Egg Robot in space.

The reason Shadow still takes a backseat is because he's training Sonic between games and seeing the hedgehog get stronger and stronger each round against Robotnik.

Knuckles isn't adopted due to him being already grown in a way.

Sonic CD

Shadow was largely absent for this one, mostly because he was trying to help Tails with one of his inventions going crazy.

He did show up at the end whenever Amy was constantly trying to get kiss in on Sonic.

Sonic was kind of having an "I need an adult!" moment with Amy and needed Shadow's help.

Shadow kindly tries to tell her that she needs to wait before she can date someone or have that kind of affection for them, saying he'll accept their relationship once she learns to control her emotions enough.

Amy reluctantly accepts for now, though she really can't help herself around him.

Adventure 1

Shadow was pretty much starting his action here by relaxing with Sonic, mostly having a vacation with him and Tails at Station Square.

But when Robotnik started showing up with Chaos and causing trouble to get all of the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow splits off from Sonic and Tails to try to get them first so Robotnik couldn't enact his plans.

At one point, he finds a couple of Master Emerald shards and just gives them to Knuckles without any fight, not really wanting to waste his energy on a hothead like him.

He saves Amy from robots twice, but isn't around when she gets caught a third time.

Shadow does join Sonic and Tails on four combined encounters, though most result in Robotnik tricking them into giving Chaos an emerald.

Chaos is probably the toughest thing Shadow has faced so far, even though he has yet to meet the rest of the immortal beings. The creature could just shrug off most of Shadow's attacks unless it involves him releasing huge bursts of power with focused aim.

As for Big, Shadow only helped him fish for Froggy once and left, not wanting to stay to deal with this.

Gamma may have been one of the best robots, but Shadow pretty much goes easy on him, pretty much dismantling his weapons with Burst or Lightning and just leaving the bot.

Shadow's story would actually get more visits from Tikal in visions than the other characters, getting closer and close to seeing the great incident that scarred Chaos.

Tikal practically begs Shadow to stop Chaos and get him to snap out of it, needing to show the world has changed from it's days of harming Chao.

Shadow, understanding what both entities tied to the Master Emerald were going through, decided to hurry to Sonic and tell him how to stop Chaos.

Surprisingly, Gamma never fully dies in this timeline, with Shadow reviving the bot by giving him a temporary Hyper Go On core until Tails can build him some new power source.

The bird inside Gamma is freed though and goes with it's family for now.

In the final battle, Shadow joins Super Sonic against Perfect Chaos, with Shadow playing the diversion since he was stronger while Sonic hit the weak spots.

Some Chao that had been following Shadow around were present there, the image of them huddled with humans in fear of Chaos was enough to make the creature stop itself and relent as it let Sonic deal the last blow to knock the dark energy out of it.

Tikal gives thanks to the heroes before Chaos and her are sealed back in the Master Emerald for good.

Gamma leaves to go find more of Eggman's robots to destroy, realizing it's mission of freeing the animals was far from over.

And Big.....well he went to go fish and stuff with Froggy I guess.

But there was more trouble coming for the heroes next.

Adventure 2

The plot is now vastly different since Maria was never murdered and Eggman never freed Shadow in the first place.

Rouge still tries to get the Master Emerald shards and goes undercover in Eggman's ranks, only Shadow is there on some occasions........to help Knuckles.

Shadow still saves her from Prison Island blowing up like in canon, though Rouge still leaves anyways.

Eggman basically brings in Metal Sonic this time around to frame Sonic, but he also gets a few extra powers based on Shadow's, making the current model more dangerous than the canon version.

When the heroes face off against King Boom Boo, Shadow just blows the ceiling up and joins Knuckles in pulverizing the ghost's body until there's no way he can stay among haunted.

There's no final story since Gerald didn't get in trouble with the government in this timeline, resulting in no tragedy of Maria and no need to program the Ark to crash into the world.

All it is in this is our heroes stopping Eggman from threatening to blow up the world.

Sonic takes on Metal in an extreme speed battle, almost threatening to blow up the route they were on with Metal's sheer new power.

Tails takes on Eggman in a shootout with both of their mechs, with Tails becoming the victor.

Knuckles and Rouge fight like in canon, even down to him saving her at the end.

Shadow and Amy disable most of the Eclipse Cannon to prevent Eggman from using it.

Eggman is captured and brought into custody like my "What if Maria survived?" scenario.

When Sonic asked Shadow about the Ark, Shadow decided to give Sonic the full story on how he came to be, even down to telling him the coming threat of Black Doom and the Black Arms race.

Sonic isn't bothered that his dad is part alien, though does find it strange his adopted grandmother is a giant female alien.

For now, Sonic decided to ask Shadow to teach him more during the current peace time so he could help Shadow fulfill his destiny of defeating Black Doom.

But little did they know....they left one enemy unaccounted for after the battle.

That's where we'll leave things for now.

Next time...it's the buildup finishing to Shadow's main purpose: Fighting Black Doom!
