What if Shadow was made by Mother Wisp? (Part 1)

Hey guys! I'm back!

I decided for today on this book that I take a break from "What if Robotnik won early" and start a what if I've been wanting to talk about for a long while now.

This one involves Shadow's origin story.

We all know from the video game he had that Shadow discovered he was made by Black Doom's DNA.

Black Doom is the tyrannical leader of the Black Arms race that tried to take over the world.....and also tried to turn us into an energy source for them to feed on.

Black Doom is cruel, manipulative, tactical and almost completely heartless. Clearly no one should have him as a father.

But what if Shadow wasn't made from Black Doom? What if he was made from someone else....which would leave Black Doom without a useful pawn in his schemes?

The only question to answer those is.......who would be willing to give Gerald Robotnik DNA to make Shadow besides Black Doom?

The Seedrians are out since their race are either in a struggle or are pretty much extinct. (Plus a plant based hero can't accomplish EVERYTHING.)

The Chao are out since it would be too cruel to experiment on them. Plus the government would shut them down for animal cruelty.

What if....Shadow was made from Wisp DNA?

More specifically....what if he was made from Mother Wisp's DNA?

If you think about it, they're pretty much the miracle race for every scenario.

Note: I'm not the only one to cover this topic before.

In fact, here's a video of GamerGuyd's what if so you can catch up to speed.

[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]

You're probably wondering why I picked this theory.

If someone's already talked about this, doesn't it mean I'm doing something pointless?

Well no.

When I watched that video, I noticed he just covered general info.

While he just gave you the main picture, he didn't cover what could happen to the timeline in detail.

As for me, I like to talk about the timeline in detail....pointing out major changes that no one looks at.

Like for example....what would happen in Sonic 06 if Shadow wasn't made by Black Doom?

What would happen in Sonic Unleashed or Colors if Shadow was different?

For that matter....what would happen in Generations and Forces for this scenario?

I don't mean any offense....GamerGuyd is a cool Sonic theorist and I love his videos!

I just think there's more to the picture than Maria possibly surviving and Shadow being the world's savior.

For this...I'm going to dig deep into the franchise and find what would happen in the full timeline.

I'm going to ask.....What if Shadow was made from Mother Wisp?
................................................................

The date is 50 or more years before the events in Sonic's time.

Gerald has been assigned to work on the Space Colony Ark to do "Project Shadow" while having his granddaughter, Maria, with him.

So far, his work is getting nowhere.

The government needs him to finish making ANYTHING that could help the world.

A super weapon

An endless resource

A cure for all illnesses

ANYTHING

But Gerald's large supply of scientific resources is unable to make something useful.

To top it off, he was starting to be filled with grief that he'll never be able to save Maria from her condition.

All hope for the genius seemed lost.

He needs a miracle to pull off the cure.

Suddenly, as he was sitting at his desk in front of a window, he spots something peaking in through it.

It's small, white and has one eye.

Gerald walks over and looks face to eye with the small and playful alien.

"What an interesting species," Gerald said as he scratches his head some.

The small alien waves a small "bye" before flying off.

Just as Gerald thought that would be the only time he would see that species.....another one shows up.

Unlike the one he just saw...this one was huge and pink, with three eyes.

Gerald was amazed at the creature, going far as to later record it as "heavenly and calming" in his journals.

From what he could reason, it seems it was the mother of the alien he just saw a minute ago.

The mother seemed to be trying to say something, but Gerald couldn't understand a word she said.

After a few long hours, him and a group of scientists managed to make a translator device to help them understand her.

The mother finally gets to talk.

She tells Gerald that she had come to get her children, who had wondered over to the Ark to look at it.

The staff look around and sure enough.....there are small aliens of different colors and shapes wandering around the Space Colony Ark.

Some of them have even gotten inside and were looking around.

Gerald even got to have the heartwarming moment of seeing Maria playing with them.

After looking around Mobius's orbit, scientists and astronomers find that another planet was near them at this time.

The mother of the aliens say that they are a species called Wisps that mainly live on the planet they just discovered.

Every decade or more, Planet Wisp nears a perfect planet to live on and let's some of her children live there and populate it.

Mother Wisp was originally planning on letting some of her children live here, but the circumstances have changed.

Turns out the Black Comet will arrive soon, with Black Doom and the Black Arms race inside.

The Wisps can't stay forever or else they'll risk being captured by him.

When Gerald is told of what the Black Arms race has done and what they're like, he feels concerned of what the world's fate would be in such a huge threat.

Gerald asked if they could take shelter here for now until it was time for their planet to leave.

Mother Wisp agrees and the Ark becomes the temporary hangout for them.

During the first week they're here, Gerald learns from Mother Wisp of something that actually sparks his hopes again.

As it turns out, they have a really powerful energy source in their DNA call hyper-go-on energy.

From what he hears, it seems to have abilities similar to Chaos energy, and maybe even more.

It was ironic! Gerald was just about to give up on finding the cure, when the answer may have just showed up at his window like that.

Gerald asks her if there is anything that puts her children at risk when hyper-go-on energy is removed.

She warns him that her children would become Nega Wisps and be aggressive and monstrous.

Gerald now knows extracting energy directly isn't an option. Just like Chao, he didn't want to harm them or else both the government and Mother Wisp would punish him furiously for it.

The elderly doctor asks if extracting DNA from a Wisp would work.

Mother Wisp says that it wouldn't take away too much energy and has a fair chance of the Wisp coming out normal.

The alien mother knows what Gerald is asking about and gladly offers using herself as the blood donor for Maria's cure.

Gerald is overjoyed and gets to work with Mother Wisp's DNA to make a cure.

Before Maria is given the cure, Mother Wisp gives him a warning. If Maria has to use more of the cure later, her DNA may be altered some into being similar to a Wisp, which would technically make Maria as one of her children now.

Gerald acknowledges this and gives Maria the cure.

The results are unbelievable! In a matter of ten minutes, Maria's condition is completely gone.

Gerald celebrates with his granddaughter in the happiest occasion of their lives.

He then reports to the government and his sponsors that he's made the perfect cure for all diseases.

Executives and Representatives rush to the Ark to see all that's been done with Wisp DNA.

The world heavily congratulates him for coming up with the answer of the millennium.

But Gerald then realized there was a new problem. The problem involves Black Doom and the Black Arms race.

If Black Doom is going all over the galaxy and conquering worlds to feast on living creatures, is there a chance he'll stumble upon Mobius?

And more importantly.....what could the world do to stop Black Doom?

Gerald knew he had to come up with something, anything to keep the Black Arms race from making this planet from becoming the next meal.

He considers altering the cure to also make some sort of "super soldier serum", but knows that was risky. Someone could try to steal them and sell them to criminals and mercenaries, making his cure become an illegal drug.

What if....he could make a protector for this world? A hero maybe?

It could work if the new being was raised kindly enough and showed what's right and wrong.

Gerald asks if there's any way she could help raise a new creature made from her, and then leave it here to seek it's own life and destiny here.

Mother Wisp agrees, but on one condition. She wants to actually give birth to it, just like the rest of her children. It would be harsh if the new being found out they were the result of an experiment, resulting in it questioning life.

Gerald accepted this and went to find a different species DNA that could combine with Wisp DNA.

He eventually gets the DNA of a Mobian hedgehog into Mother Wisp alongside her own genes.

After several weeks of pain on Mother Wisp's part, a Wisp/Hedgehog hybrid eventually comes out of her.

Now the alternate version of Shadow is born!

There's one thing I couldn't figure out though: What would Shadow's gender be if he was born from Mother Wisp?

While there are both guys and girls in the Wisp population, Mother Wisp probably doesn't mate with her own children to make more.

Mother Wisp is probably able to produce Wisps manually instead of relying on a male.

But with Shadow being made from Mother Wisp with some Mobian DNA added, there's no telling what gender this version of Shadow would be.

One version could still be a guy, or another could be a girl. For all we know, Shadow could somehow be both genders at once.

I'll let you guys decide on what Shadow's gender would be in this scenario.

After the true results of the project was finished, Gerald decides to alert the government and world security about both his success and the coming doom approaching.

While the government is excited of the new cure, they become shaken up by the news of an imminent invasion by another alien species.

Gerald, along with the world defense leaders at the time, decide to prepare when Black Doom arrives.

In the meantime, Mother Wisp decides to use as much of her time there raising Shadow.

Both Mother Wisp and Gerald are aware that Shadow will have to be ready someday to fight Black Doom. The Wisps need to put someone out there that can show the Black Arms race that they aren't pushovers.

Sadly, the day eventually comes when Mother Wisp has to leave with her children to Planet Wisp before it leaves.

Shadow has a heartwarming goodbye with (his/her) mother, clearly wishing she would stay.

Mother Wisp assures her new child that she would be back for them someday, Shadow would just have to wait for that day.

Planet Wisp flies away with the whole Wisp species, with Shadow waving at them with tears streaming down (his/her) face.

Gerald and Maria become the only family Shadow has left. The two humans raised Shadow during their time on the Ark.

The good news is that Maria never dies in this.

Since they never experimented on Black alien blood in the first place, the government didn't come up there to shut the Ark down.

A week after Planet Wisp leaves, the Black Comet comes over.

Black Doom makes contact with Gerald and communicates with him for a while.

Shadow is hidden somewhere to avoid Black Doom knowing about (him/her).

Black Doom makes an offer to Gerald after hearing he's been trying to invent biological beings: a sample of his own blood in exchange for the Chaos Emeralds. (Which he doesn't have yet, because they're still hidden somewhere!)

Gerald hesitantly takes the offer, hoping that he can make Black Doom think he'll have a personal minion when he comes back.

After the Black Comet leaves, Gerald alerts the government about Black Doom.

The world leaders are left shaken at the fact that an alien warlord will come back 50 years later and try to conquer them.

After days of conversations, Gerald and the President that was around at the time make an operation planned out.

If Black Doom was going to invade, he's expecting Mobius to be completely off guard when he comes back.

So they plan out "Operation Shadow".

In this plan, they would make an entire set up of regular weapons and experimental weapons that G.U.N. and the world armies could use at a moments notice when an alien invasion happens.

Shadow would be the trump card for the operation and the frontline fighter.

If Shadow is made prepared for this day, Black Doom and the Black Arms race will have nothing they can do.

After this operation is planned, Shadow is brought up into intense training: close quarters combat, Chaos powers and Hyper-go-on powers.  (No guns)

Gerald makes sure the development is slow though. He didn't want Shadow to become aggressive and murderous like Black Doom.

Maria is there to help Shadow though the loneliness of Mother Wisp being gone. Shadow and Maria develop a sibling bond with each other, always helping the other out.

It eventually comes to the time that most of the team on the Ark has to leave for the surface. Not everyone wants to stay up in space for years.

Maria and Shadow are excited to see what it's like down there, with it being Shadow's first time to see it.

Meanwhile, Gerald is secretly aware that his time is coming to an end. An old man like him can't live on forever, he has to pass on eventually.

When Shadow finds out about this, (he/she) is immediately back in tears again, devastated (he's/she's) going to lose more family again.

Gerald assures (him/her) that it will be alright and that he needs this. But he also tells Shadow he will stay with them even after death.

Shadow reluctantly lets go, but decides that (he/she) was going to spend as much time with Gerald as possible before he dies of old age.

When they get to the surface, Shadow's breath is taken at all of the beautiful sights around (him/her).

The green grass

The blue skies

The clear water

It all marvels this version of Shadow of how amazing this is compared to living up in space!

Shadow enjoys (his/her) days playing in the fields and hills with Maria while Gerald watches from a chair.

Sadly, the day eventually comes when Gerald dies of old age, be sure to leave a heartwarming farewell to Shadow and Maria before passing.

Shadow and Maria mourns for him, but eventually learn to move on and seek the life Gerald wanted them to pursue.

Shadow soon starts to do what (he/she) knows (he/she) was built for: protecting the planet from dangerous threats, especially the Black Arms race.

"Operation Shadow" runs on 2 important factors to protect the world.

1) The armed forces being ready the moment the Black Arms race arrives.

2) Most importantly, Shadow needs to be trained enough to fight Black Doom.

If Shadow isn't at (his/her) best when the day comes, all life is lost.

Shadow actively goes around the world,   capturing criminals and terrorists and saving lives.

Shadow does the job so well, that people constantly praise (him/her) and (his/her) efforts to make the world a better place.

Although 50 years later, Shadow starts to question (his/her) strength and liability for the world.

Shadow is aware that while (he/she) is meant for that giant invasion coming, but (he/she) isn't sure (he'll/she'll) be able to keep the world safe all of the time.

Shadow may have super speed and the ability to teleport, but even (he/she) can't be in two places at once.

Shadow realizes (he/she) will need a successor to (him/her) once the invasion is stopped.

Who could possibly be a replacement?

BOOM!!!

Shadow hears the sound barrier being broken.

(He/She) hurries to the scene and sees an army of robots being taken out by a blue blur.

Who is this?

That's where I'll stop for now.

Part 2 will come eventually.

But what do you think?

Leave a comment down below.

See you later!
