These are just some "What if" moments that will make you scratch your head in thought.

Theory 1

What if Ghost Girl was cursed for her behavior?

The Halloween trailer for Sonic Unleashed is a bit of a fun guilty pleasure for most of the Sonic franchise.

But the thing that always confuses people is the ghosts in the trailer.

We only know of 3 ghosts

One of them is a girl ghost who apparently lives in the mansion.

The other two are either her butlers, servants, competing boyfriends or just followers.

Either way, the scenario sets itself clear.

The two male ghosts are competing for the best picture of someone's scared face.

And Sonic and Chip are caught right in the middle of it.

The confusion on many was what we were thinking about them.

"Just who were they before they died?"

Perhaps the mansion itself is the answer?

The ghost girl apparently is designed as if she was living a life of luxury, and the two guys definitely fit the bill of two rival servants.

My Theory) She used to be a spoiled rich teen who loved pranks.

Her favorite pranks are the ones that scare people, hence the pictures.

Her servants would set up a prank and scare a guest, taking a picture of the face.

How did this cause her death?

It's possible one of her victims was someone with power connected to the afterlife.

Maybe it a priest or pope who condemned her?

Maybe it was a witch she ticked off?

Maybe it was a God of Death like Anubis in disguise?

For all we know, she could've ticked off John Wick and he "unalived" her.

Whatever it was, it took her servants too while they were at it.

The ghost girl seems to be okay with this either way, unaffected by her mortal life being take away early.

To me, it sounds dark that those two guys had to share the same fate as her.

All this because they wanted to impress a girl.

Not sure if I should them "Simps" or call the girl...............whatever it is you call girls who manipulate boys.

If this theory is true, it kind of makes you feel both bad for them.....and feel like they deserved this cruel fate.

At least they haven't figured out possession yet.

Or have they?

Theory 2

What if King Boo Boom was the cruel leader of a kingdom and a cult?

Sonic Adventure 2 is a plot that gets to be on a console and on the Sonic X anime.

While Shadow definitely got to be the biggest highlight, one thing got to be planted in our minds just long enough.

Unlike Shadow though, this one was put in you through pure FEAR.

The Boo Booms are Sonic's equivalents of ghosts.........and psycho demons!

They're part of the temple level of the game, and appeared once in Sonic X.

Their mouths are always either stitched up or showing sharp black fangs.

Their eyes are always either black and soulless or red and demonic.

And if you thought they were scary, their leader is a massive ghost with large jaw, multi colored eyes and tongue, as well as creepy moans and laughs.

To add more nightmare fuel to the fire...

...Sonic X made one of the Boo Booms possess Amy!

Did you think Mario's Boos were scary?

Nintendo's got nothing on this nightmare fuel!

Nobody ever really asks what I was thinking after King Boo Boom was sealed away forever.

"Just who was King Boo Boom when he died?"

My Theory) The lead ghost was a tyrant cursed to live as a ghost in the pyramid/tomb for his sacrifice of lives.

There are 3 clues I have for this.

1) The fact that he's bound to a pyramid or tomb, which is meant for pharaohs or kings.

If he was any other cruel person, he would have haunted a house or a graveyard.

But King Boo Boom is literally in a place filled with luxury and traps.

He clearly must have built the place before he died.

2) Possessed Amy's quotes in the anime.

In both the Japanese and American versions, Amy says two different things.

4Kids was hated for their dubs of the anime and their censorship of it.

But we have 4Kids to thank for revealing the motive of the ghosts.

In the game, they just attack you for intruding on the pyramid, no other reasons involved.

When the anime did the possession....

Possessed Amy (Japanese)

"I'm going to sacrifice you to King Boo-Boo."

In this, she seems like she's taking orders from the lead ghost.

And the mentioning of the word "sacrifice" should ring a few bells quickly.

This reveals that King Boo Boom used to do ritual sacrifices when he was alive.

Mostly with living humans and Mobians!

But 4Kids American version reveals a different plot.

Possessed Amy (American)

"Stop interfering with my plans or you'll never leave this castle!"

This doesn't sound like a goon working for someone.

Instead, it sounds like an extension of King Boo Boom.

I think King Boo Boom is trying to find a way back to the land of the living.

And 4Kids just spilled the beans for us.

And finally...

3) King Boo Boom's brief return in the Sonic X comics

In one of the issues, someone took talisman that seals the ghosts away from the tomb.

The ghosts reappear and start possessing everyone.

Even people like Vanilla and Cheese aren't safe from being vessels.

The heroes eventually return the talisman back where it belongs and the ghosts are never seen again.

(Until Team Sonic Racing came!)

King Boo Boom said that the more the other Boo Booms possess people...

...the closer he gets to returning to the real world.

That means in American canon, they're all extensions of the original person, whoever King was.

In Japanese canon, however, they all are different people serving under the King.

The only explanation is that he was originally a king who used ritual sacrifice to appease his people and whatever gods or demons he worshipped.

Eventually, some people gained some common sense and revolted against him.

The king was overthrown and killed by his own people, as well as possibly his loyal followers too.

The people made sure his tomb had no mention of his name.

The reason why is that some religions claim people have to remember you in order for you to pass on to a good afterlife.

They left no trace of who he is, trapping him forever in a grave made by his own radical zealotry and hypocrisy.

It's even harsher than the first theory.

Forever condemned to live in the pyramid for his sins against humanity and Mobians.

His only way out is possession...

...which he's failed at so far himself.

Theory 3

What if Sally Acorn and the Freedom Fighters are dead in the Modern games?

The Knothole Freedom Fighters made their final public moments known in the Archie comics.

After that, the only video game appearances they made was in a Sonic Pinball game.

But what if something serious was at play for why they haven't appeared in this timeline.

I know they aren't canon to the games, but SEGA has made it clear that they have the rights to those characters.

While not as popular as the new Modern characters, they do have potential to get in.

Perhaps SEGA is trying to do something else besides burry the characters so people won't complain about how many there are?

We won't know if they'll ever see the light of day again in a Modern game, but we can dream.

What I'm trying to mention is something grim.

My Theory) Sally, Bunnie, Rotor, Antione, Dulcy, Uncle Chuck and everyone else was killed in the battle against Snively.

In this timeline, Tails never met Sally and the others.

This explains why Tails doesn't know about them in the games.

Snively pretty much wiped the floor with the Freedom Fighters.

Sonic only barely managed to kill Snively for good with Sally sacrificing herself.

After that, he was all alone........and secretly desperate to have someone in his life.

In Sonic 1, he saves the day from Robotnik without hesitation, obviously holding a new grudge against him since Kintobor robotized his people.

In Sonic 2, he takes Tails in as his best friend, knowing he needs someone to help him move on.

This would all explain why Sonic is distant of Amy's affections.

He's afraid to lose someone he loves again.

Yet Sonic hides that suffering away in that fake smile.

If Tails and Amy knew, they'd plead with Sonic that he needs help.

All that heroic risk, just because he feels he has nothing to lose after his former friends were killed.

But he keeps his promise to live anyways.

Theory 4

What if it's all a dream?

All of these different moments are just dreams being projected by...

A) Someone in a coma?

Or

B) Someone with a bad life?

1) Sonic Boom is just Stick's dream of her having friends.

Sticks usually is hard to talk with due to paranoia.

My guess is that she was someone who had hobbies she loved, but no one could connect with her.

Amy is the popular girl who does a lot of great achievements.

Tails is the nerd of the region, making all kinds of projects.

Knuckles is a tough guy that she sees at a gym or the beach.

And Sonic is the cool kid that everyone loves.

In this scenario, she's pretty much the outcast trying to make friends with everyone.

2) Miles "Tails" Prowler dreamed of Sonic and his adventures.

Basically after Tails got bullied, he fell unconscious and into a coma.

All of the Classic and Modern games is just his fantasy of having an idol who adopted him as a brother.

3) Amy dreamed of Sonic.

This is like Tails, but different reasons.

She basically wanted someone to love her, but no one viewed her as that.

Cream is the only real friend she has in reality and in the coma.

Sonic was just her dream of a popular guy she knew in real life.

She fell into a coma after an accident that followed her being rejected by the guy she wanted.

4) Sonic X is Chris's dream of having true friends after a suicide attempt.

Chris is the son of a rich family, so it's easy to understand why it's hard for him to have true friends.

Most people only befriend rich so they can get benefits from them.

This explains why Chris is reluctant to let Sonic leave to go back home and shuts the portal off.

He feels trapped knowing that someone who valued him as a friend has to leave.

The entire episode of him on the run with Sonic is Chris slowly letting go of Sonic.

It's hard to let go of a friend, especially when you haven't had one in a long time.

5) Sonic Underground is Satam Sonic's dream of having siblings.

This explains why there's Freedom Fighters and a Robotnik in Underground, despite Sally and the others not being around.

Sonia and Manic make Sonic when names combine.

This means they were something Sonic's mind came up with to cope with not having an actual blood related family besides Uncle Chuck.

Knuckles and his pet dinosaur aren't real in this reality either.

6) Sonic is the dream self of someone who wanted to be cool or a hero.

In this, Sonic is basically the identity of someone else who had a rough life and wanted to be recognized.

Sonic is still nervous for different kinds of attention like romance, so he flees when something like that approaches.

Sonic's fear of water could come from someone's natural fear of drowning, despite the fact that hedgehogs can swim.

His rivals and enemies are based on people who mocked or picked on him.

Eggman was that creepy neighbor next door that the person was afraid of.

Tails is probably the dorky best friend that only he's friends with.

Amy isn't in love with him in the real world, hence why he runs off in the dream, since he's still too nervous to ask her out.

I could go on and on about the different dream possibilities, but you get the picture on what I mean.

Theory 5

What if most of the Zeti were wiped out by the Deadly Six or someone else?

What no one can answer is how they survived if there's only 6 of them left?

My Theory) The Deadly Six killed all of the Zeti so they could have the Lost Hex to themselves.

This would explain why they're the only ones left.

It must have been recent too, considering how Zeena has the youth of a young woman, Zazz has the youth of a mischievous teen and Zor is basically a high school goth.

Zomom was probably ok with it too since he would get all of the food to himself.

Zazz pretty much lives for mayhem.

I could continue with why they'd want to get rid of their own kind, but you can already see that before me.

Almost every member is based on the different part of the 7 Deadly Sins, so they should've seen it coming.

Maybe someday, the rest of their kind will return.
