One day I was running home for some rest right after fighting with Eggman. When I got home, Shadow was at his door wanting to fight.

"Oh come on!" I muttered under my breath as I skidded to a halt upon seeing Shadow on his doorstep. I tried to sneak around to the back door, but living in a grove of trees has its disadvantages. I winced as a twig unexpectedly snapped under my weight. And of course, Shadow-being the Ultimate Lifeform-heard him with his supersonic hearing.

"Tsk. Took you long enough."

"Give it a rest, Shadow! I don't want to fight today."

Shadow smiled at my retort, "Well, I guess the Hero of Mobius's too chicken to fight big bad Shadow." Shadow said. This is what I hated about Shadow. He knew exactly how to get on my nerves.

"Fine!" I snarled. I stepped back and positioned myself to fight.

Shadow stepped back and lunged. He moved so fast that the next thing I knew, I was being hurled into a tree. That's when I knew Shadow was serious.

"You want a fight? Then I'll give you a fight!" I got up, dusted myself off, and spin dashed Shadow into a tree. He groaned and I took this opportunity to punch him. But as my fist collided with his nose, he curled up and used spin dash to knock me into the nearest tree. I growled and realized that that groan was a diversion. I decided to take a risk and sped off to the city.

"Ha! Running away, hedgehog? You really are a faker, Faker!" Shadow yelled as he took off after me.

"No, I'm not the faker here! You're just playing right into my hands." I yelled over my shoulder and ran even faster, eventually breaking the sound barrier. I slowed down upon reaching the city center. I immediately regretted this desition as Shadow slammed into me, throwing me against a wall.

"Had enough yet, faker?" Shadow asked, walking up to me while I was struggling to get up.

"No." I responded.

"Well, I've had enough of you're blathering." Shadow pulled out a gun and pointed it at my head. "Any last words?"

"Yeah..." I didn't, but I needed to create a diversion, so I threw 2 random words together. "VOLCANO WONDERPANTS!!" I shouted. I saw the look of confusion on Shadow's face.

"What? That doesn't make an-"

Now's my chance! I thought as Shadow was trying to dissect what I had said. He made a noise between a shocked grunt and an I-hate-your-guts-right-about-now grunt as I bowled into him. I was trying to knock him to the ground, but he didn't fall. His gun flew onto the ground from the force of my spin dash and lay forgotten on the ground. He punched me, but I dodged. When I dodged, Shadow caught me off-guard by teleporting to the roof of a nearby restaurant, and I wasn't able to catch myself on time. I fell to the ground. He spin-dashed toward me, but I turned around just in time to dodge him. I was about to land on my face when I performed a back handspring and returned to fend off Shadow's incoming attack. But when he didn't attack and stand his ground, I took action, jumping towards him. I tried punching him about 4 times-he dodged every one of them-before he directed a well-aimed punch to the center of my chest. I skidded backward a good meter or so but still held my ground. I ran towards him, trying to run him over but he just teleported out of my way. He reappeared right next to me while I was running and pushed me to one side. I flew through the air a few feet, landed on my hands, and sped off again. All in the blink of an eye. I ran full speed, Shadow chasing after me. Shadow jumped on top of me and we collided with a grunt, each pushing of each other at the same time. We did this again before Shadow disappeared. I looked around, hopefully thinking that he gave up, but the fact that Shadow never gives up dampened my hope as fast as it had come. I eventually saw Shadow and spin-dashed towards him, only to find out he had teleported again.

I skidded to a halt after I uncurled.

I looked around again muttering, "Son of a g-", but was cut off by a zap from above me. I looked up and saw Shadow had appeared on top of a restaurant.

He looked at me before saying, "You have the reflexes of a panther." I replied confused, "Is that an insult? I thought panthers were fast."

Shadow crossed his arms and retorted, "Maybe compared to you."

"BURN!" I heard. I looked around, only just realizing the crowd that formed around us. I growled at Shadow, then ran towards him with the reflexes of a FAST panther, thank you very much. Again I tried to run into him but AGAIN he jumped, efficiently dodging my attack. Shadow landed and teleported. He appeared next to my ear and tried to throw a punch, but I noticed him just in time to dodge.

As he fell to the ground I proudly remarked, "Now who's got SLOW panther reflexes, hmm?" I tried punching him, but he blocked it with his arm and used my attack against me by throwing it back, allowing him time to get up while I stumbled. He tried to punch me underhand, but I jumped back just in time.

By now, people in the crowd were chanting, "Fight! Fight! Fight!" but Shadow and I were to busy fighting to hear. Shadow teleported as I landed and I aimed a shot at him. He dodged it and punched me in my jaw, sending me stumbling back, eyes closed. I recovered quickly and we circled around, Shadow a few feet higher aided by his rocket boots. I again attacked him but Shadow thew me off covering his chest with fists as I fell to the ground with a grunt. I landed on my hands and feet and immediately got up again, pushing myself back at him with an outstretched fist. But he was ready for me this time. He teleported while I punched the tree behind him.

"YEOW!" I yelled as my fist painfully collided with the tree. I couldn't see him, but I guessed he would be laughing his head off.

Shadow, however, wasn't laughing. He was running straight towards Sonic.

I saw Shadow out of the corner of my eye and turned around to meet him. We curled into spiked balls at the same time and collided. When we collided we just bounced back, as we were both balls. We continued to collide and bounce away quite a few times in the next few seconds, each collision accompanied by a grunt from both of us. Sometimes we almost crashed into some onlookers, but they jumped back as we ricocheted past. Then, we separated and rolled separate directions before coming back for one final hit. This hit made us both yelp in pain and each made the other uncurl. We flew in opposite directions, I landed on a fire hydrant which got dented, but thankfully didn't explode. I didn't see were Shadow landed, but got up as he came speeding towards me. I was frozen, as I had just been knocked into a fire hydrant. Shadow bowled into me and made me grunt as we flew through the air for a split second. Shadow through me onto the ground and I landed on my back. I lay there winded for a second before Shadow's fist came hurtling towards me. I rolled to one side, narrowly avoiding Shadow's body, which cracked the pavement I was lying on a few seconds earlier.

I narrowed my eyes as I thought, "Winded or not you HAVE to keep fighting, Sonic!" I then performed a windmill that knocked Shadow to the ground. His momentarily surprise granted me enough time to climb on top of him and punch him to my heart's content. Eventually, he escaped my grasp with a bloody nose. He kicked up, successfully forcing me to get off of him. We scuffled on the ground a bit before I won, gaining the upper hand once again. But Shadow knew what I was going to do so he through me off again and punched my face. Now it was his turn to punch me and give me a bloody nose. Eventually, I was able to fling my self up onto the patio of a restaurant, in the process throwing Shadow under me. A few people that were still standing on the platform ran away from us as I managed to pin Shadow's arms down.

"Why are you doing this, Shadow?" I asked the struggling hedgehog beneath me.

He smirked and said, "Your mother wants you."
