A robot with ears, gloves, and shoes like Sonic steps into a corridor.

"Heads up, furbag!"

It speeds at Sonic and knocks him back.

"Is that a... knockoff me?" Sonic questioned before getting grabbed in the neck by a robot.

"Knockoff? Off, that stings!" the robot said. "From the top of my titanium reinforced head to my industrial-grade tookus!"

It throws Sonic into a ceiling and kicks him off to a ledge. Sonic screams and stands up, holding himself up from falling.

"The name is Chaos Sonic, like regular Sonic but with twice the charm, and none of the failure!"

"Failure? You've got the wrong hedgehog, pal!" Sonic glared.

"Au contraire, blue hair! I know a fox that might disagree with you." Chaos Sonic said.

"Another trap... I knew that fox would set us up!" Knucks glared.

"That's a lie!" Sonic defended. "Where's sis?!"

"Your dear sister is alright, looking... dead tired. And I was not programmed to lie!" Chaos Sonic said before charging at Sonic.

Eggforcers fire on Rebel and Knucks as they dodge the fire shots.

"Looks like your pal..." he groaned. "...set us up!"

"No! Nine wouldn't do that!"

Sonic fights with Chaos Sonic, who throws him. Sonic lands on his feet and Chaos Sonic runs at him and punches. It jumps over a kick and dodges a punch.

"Hi-yah!" Chaos Sonic yelled, kicking Sonic back.

Sonic gets up and headbutts it.

"I've gotta get Nine and sis out of there!"

"Forget that two-timing punk! Get in, get Gwen and the shards, get out! That's it!" Knucks ordered.

"Some of us are fast enough— Ow!"

Chaos Sonic headbutts him back. Sonic holds his head in pain and glares at the robotic version of himself. He blocks a flying kick and a couple of swings. He holds the robot back by grabbing its hands as they struggle to push each other back.

"Wow, looking at you is like looking in a mirror!" Chaos Sonic said and mocked. "Only I'm all sad and pathetic!"

"You're gonna be sad in a minute!"

Sonic headbutts again.

"Come on!"

He flips and sends Chaos Sonic to the ledge. It launches back up and forces Sonic toward the ledge.

"Ugh, I can't take it! You're just so tragic and smelly! Here, let me help."

"Please, stop talking." Sonic groaned out.

Chaos Sonic pushes Sonic off and catches him.

"Gotcha! Saved your life."

It spins and throws him off.

"Woah!" Sonic yelled out.

He falls into a dumpster and Chaos Sonic lands in front and goes to it.

"Have I told you my three-step plan yet?"

Sonic pops his head out, gasping for air until Chaos Sonic jumps on a lid, slamming him back inside.

"Oh, you're gonna love it."

"Hey!" Sonic yelled through the dumpster.

"Step 1, beat you to a pulp, obviously. Step 2, rebrand!"

"Ugh, this guy just won't stop talking."

Sonic bursts out with his spin dash, knocking Chaos Sonic out.

"First of all, stop talking! And second—"

Chaos Sonic grabs and throws him over the street.

"Ah, ah, ah! You didn't hear my step three. I diversify! T-shirts, pop albums, a chili dog, flavored soft drink called 'Chaos Sonic's Chaos Tonic'!"

Sonic rolls his eyes with a groan.

Meanwhile, in a power core room, Gwen was watching her brother fight against Chaos Sonic on screen and was groaning in annoyance at the robot as well. That robot was more annoying than her own brother.

On the Yoke deck, Rebel flies from Eggforcer fire and takes cover. Knucks steps out and fires. He shoots an Eggforcer down. It slides off the edge.

"Nice one." Rebel said.

"That the last of 'em?" Knucks asked.

"Better be. Sonic looks like he could use a hand." she said, looking down to see Sonic and Chaos Sonic fighting.

They heard the doors opening and turned.

"Spoke too soon..." he said.

Two giant Eggforcers step out which Knucks fires at them. But them it stops firing as he's out of ammo.

"Classic." Knucks rolled his eyes, throwing the blaster away.

"Help Sonic!" Rebel said, firing at them. "I'll hold them off as long as I can."

"I ain't leaving you." he said.

"Yes, you are. That's an order. Go!"

Rebel fires at the giant Eggforcers, who fires back. Knucks watches her and jumps off the ledge, flips, and flies. On the ground, Sonic and Chaos Sonic kept running and fighting.

"What's the matter? Stage fright? Don't worry. The show's almost over, and you've had a good run, but it's time to take your final blow." Chaos Sonic said, not noticing Knucks flying above them.

Sonic noticed and backed away as the robot kept talking until Knucks smashes Chaos Sonic down to the ground.

"Aw, yeah!" Sonic cheered.

"Heh. I think you're getting rusty, Blue." Knucks smirked. "This guy ain't so tough."

He then yelps when Chaos Sonic jumps out and throws Knucks into a wall. Sonic glared and brought up his fists.

"Two-on-one? Tsk-tsk." Chaos Sonic scoffed. "That's cheating. Guess I'l have to even the odds."

It runs up to him and kicks Sonic off to the trash can. Knucks hops up and tries to punch Chaos Sonic when it dodges his punches and strikes back. Knucks jumps and misses as he breaks the bench in half that Chaos Sonic was currently sitting down on.

"Stand still!" Knucks grunted, throwing more punches.

Chaos Sonic keeps dodging them like it was nothing.

"Missed me, missed me, now here comes my fisty!" Chaos Sonic teased.

It punches Knucks away, knocking him onto the street. Sonic gets up, leaning his hand on his knee.

"Ugh, he's tough. Maybe I can run down his battery. Hey, you want to be the new me?"

"I am the new you." Chaos Sonic said.

"Well, how about a race?" Sonic suggested, getting into his running stance.

"Oh, I love a race." Chaos Sonic clapped with excitement.

It gets to Sonic's side and goes into a same running stance as his.

"See if you can keep up with the original."

Both Sonic and Chaos Sonic runs off. Knucks stands and turns back to the Yoke where the fighting pursues above the deck. He climbs it to go help Rebel.

Inside, Nine and Gwen watches the Sonics fighting. Nine looks guilty while Gwen worries for her brother.

"What have I done?" Nine questioned in guilt.

"A great service... for us, that is." Mr. Doctor Eggman grinned.

"Mighty charitable of you, selling out your blue chum like that." Done It giggled evilly. "Even if it was just a slip of the tongue."

All Eggmen begins cackling. Gwen's body shakes in pure anger while Nine looks down with shame.

"The hedgehog has met his match. Chaos Sonic will destroy him! And with our endless supply of power, the resistance is all but over." Mr. Doctor Eggman explained as they head into the power core room where Gwen is. "Now that we've seen what the shard and Gwen can do on a small scale, what say we widen our lens?"

Gwen doesn't like where this is going and glanced over at Nine as the guard grabs his cuffed hands. Nine pulls them away. Mr. Doctor Eggman strokes the railing as he walk by.

"Personally, I've always felt my sector could use more smokestacks."

"Must you be so pedestrian?" Deep groaned in annoyance. "What we need is a museum! Something to commemorate our achievements. Colonnades, archways, friezes, busts—"

"Theme park." Don't suggested.

"Ugh. Save it for the bridge and tunnel crowd."

"Theme. Park." Don't repeated firmly.

Babble suggests something else as he speaks unintelligible babble, pounding his fists.

"Museum!" Deep shouted.

"Smokestacks!" Mr. Doctor Eggman shouted.

"Theme park." Don't repeated.

Done It steps in between them.

"Everyone pipe down! Staying local was never part of the plan. Conquer, then divide, remember?"

"The old man is right... for once." Mr. Doctor Eggman agreed. "However, with this much shard power at our disposal, we don't have to conquer those worlds... We can transform them into whatever we want, just like that. No more oceans, no more jungles. With the proper adjustments to the Shatterdrive, the portals could stay open as long as we need. We wouldn't have to go anywhere! Imagine universal domination from the comfort of our own home!"

"No!!" Gwen shouted, struggling to get out of the binds.

"Uh, I wouldn't do that." Nine piped in.

"Who's asking you? And you, shut up, prisoner!" Mr. Doctor Eggman sneered.

"You shut up, Egghead!" Gwen snarled.

"The portals aren't natural. Keeping them open will have repercussions on a universal scale." Nine explained.

Gwen begins to think that he has a point. Who knows what will happen if they open more than one portal.

"The varmint makes sense." Done It said.

"Wow, at least, he has a second thought." Gwen rolled her eyes.

"What makes him the expert?" Don't asked.

"I invented the Shatterdrive technology." Nine stated.

"And we're improving it. Pay no attention to the squirrel." Deep waved off.

Mr. Doctor Eggman shuts Nine behind the door with the press of his remote.

"Now, where was I? Ah, yes. Why fight over one New Yoke when we can have five?"

The Eggmen all cackle once more, making Gwen watch in horror.

On the street, Sonic leads the race as he runs with Chaos Sonic following his movements on a view screen, running mechanically. They go around the corner and pick up speed and race through the city. In an alley, they run up the wall and jump to others. They run on top of buildings.

"Hello again!" Chaos Sonic greeted.

"Ugh!" Sonic groaned in annoyance and ran ahead.

He leaps across the wide gap and Chaos Sonic follows. On the next building, Chaos Sonic catches up again with Sonic.

"Gotcha!"

"Stop. Seriously, knock it off!" Sonic said.

"Stop. Seriously, knock it off!" Chaos Sonic mocked, mimicking his mouth its hand.

"Stop copying me!"

"Stop copying me!"

They speed down a wall and back to the streets.

"Boo!"

Sonic stops and Chaos Sonic turns and sends him flying.

"And down goes Sonic!" it cheered, approaching him. "He can taste his impending defeat, which I'm guessing tastes like concrete."

"Ugh. If I'm half as annoying as this guy, I really need to make some changes."

"Let's start by changing your face!"

Chaos Sonic charges and grabs Sonic's hands as they struggled to push each other back.

"Ugh... At least I have a face!"

Sonic spots a bus over Chaos Sonic's shoulder.

"I got to hand it to you, you don't just lose, you lose epically!"

It spins and throws him into an alley.

"Face it, you'll never beat me! You're too slow."

"Quit your yapping and come get me."

Sonic takes off and Chaos Sonic chases him on the next block from the bus. Sonic sees it between buildings and turns and leads Chaos Sonic into the bus's path.

"Oh, no."

Sonic lands to the other side and watches the bus crash into a building.

"Bus-ted!" he grinned and gasped, looking up at the Yoke as blasting noise could be heard.

He runs toward it. Dread walks down between the building and sees Sonic as he watches him go by.

"Sonic! He'll lead me right back to Gwen!" he said and ran after him.

On the deck of the Mothership on top of the Yoke, doors open as Mr. Doctor Eggman walks out with Don't and Done It.

"Doctors! Rejoice! For today, we demonstrate the true power of the Shards—"

Don't cuts Mr. Doctor Eggman off.

"Must you make a speech every time? Just do the thing."

Mr. Doctor Eggman scoffs.

"Fine. Whatever. Dr. Deep." he said and called him from the walkie-talkie. "Begin Operation 'Chaos Terraformation'. Start it up!"

In the power core room, Deep looks up at the Shards and Gwen before typing.

"Energy extraction from the Shards and Gwen is underway. Over to you, Dr. Babble."

Babble speak baby gibberish as he types and blows raspberry. The mothership portal activator turns. Babble waves at Deep, who pulls the lever. Around the Shards, a ball of energy expands as Gwen screams once more, feeling the power coming out of her as the colorful veins glows brighter on her skin. A beam shoots from them and out through the activator. A green portal opens.

"That should do the trick." Mr. Doctor Eggman chuckled.

The portal leads straight to Boscage Maze. Buildings start rising through the canopy and Scavengers watch from the deck in shock and horror. T'Challa yowls in shock and jumps back, protecting the Scavengers from harm. Thorn and Birdie land besides them and watch. From their Shatter Space, the portal is red.

In New Yoke, Babble gets the portal activator to turn in another direction. Deep pulls the lever again and Gwen screams again in bloody pain as the beam creates a blue portal. It leads straight to No Place.

In the ocean, the Angels' Voyage and the Kraken floats by side. Buildings rise out of the sea. On the ship, Batten, Catfish, and Sails look around at them. On the Kraken, Rusty and Black Rose watch and look at each other.

"The Chaos Council." Rusty said.

"At last! Our empire blooms." Done It announced.

The portals stay open. Gwen pants heavily, feeling so tired and drained of all the powers they took from her. She heard quiet footsteps as they walk in front of her.

"Gwen. Gwen, wake up."

She opened her eyes and saw Dread, who looks worried.

"D-Dread?"

"I'm getting ye out of here." he said.

"But the Chaos Council—"

He ignores her and smashes the screen, causing the hamster ball to power down. Gwen falls down, but Dread quickly catches her. She looks around to see Deep and Babble had left to join the Council.

"Wait. My friend..." she said, realizing she needs to go help Nine.

"No time. Let's go." Dread said, running out of the room with Gwen in his arms. "Ye alright?"

"Y-Yeah. I'm fine. Just... feel a little weak." Gwen assured her, placing a hand on her forehead.

On the lower deck, Knucks and Rebel fire on Eggforcers.

"Finally. We're done here."

But he spoke too soon as three more Eggforcers land.

"Oh, come on." Knucks groaned in frustration.

Rebel frowns in tiredness. The Eggforcers stalk forward when Sonic knocks them out with his spin dash and lands beside Knucks and Rebel.

"Sorry I'm late." he said.

"Where's your evil, slightly more annoying twin?" Knucks asked.

"He had a bus to catch."

But it won't be catching up the bus soon.

"What are we supposed to do about these?" Rebel asked, pointing to the two portals. "That can't be good."

"We ain't going to be able to punch our way out of this one." Knucks said.

"The sooner we get the Shards and Gwen, the sooner we can stop this." she said.

Knucks and Sonic nodded.

"Great point, Rebel. Let's go!"

Sonic smashes a giant Eggforcer from coming out. Knucks and Rebel fire. They go through the doors and another giant Eggforcer falls.

"Go, go, go!" Sonic urged.

They run down the corridor. Rebel flies ahead and shoots out two Eggforcers before throwing her gun away. Suddenly, Chaos Sonic catches up.

"Hey, bro. Miss me?"

It tackles Sonic and kicks him as Sonic lands on his feet.

"Now, where were we? Oh, yeah."

Sonic blocks a kick. It grabs Sonic's fist and kicks him back. They wrestle and Sonic kicks it off. Chaos Sonic dodges a kick and Sonic punches it. Chaos Sonic holds back another punch.

"Now this, this is fun..." it cackled.

It spins Sonic around who yells and throws him. Sonic gets up and bounces off walls and Chaos Sonic chases him.

"Feel free to add this butt-kicking to your long list of failures, Sonic!"

Chaos Sonic punches Sonic ahead and does a flying kick and stands on top of him.

"You want to know the biggest difference between you and me?"

"He's got us." Rebel said and smashed Chaos Sonic away.

Chaos Sonic lands back when Knucks comes behind him.

"And you're on your own."

He leaps to punch the robot. It grabs Knucks by the wrist and throws him at Rebel.

"Nah, friends are a weakness."

Knucks smashes into Rebel that was just checking on Sonic as the two went flying.

"No!" Sonic yelled.

"Remember, Sonic, this is all on you."

Chaos Sonic jumps at Rebel and Knucks. It throws Rebel away.

"Huh?" she questioned and yelled after getting thrown back.

Knucks jumps high and brings his fist. Chaos Sonic jumps up to him and kicks him down. Sonic stands in front of Rebel and Knucks protectively, holding his arm in pain.

"Leave them alone."

The two begin wrestling again.

"After I'm done with you, I'm going to destroy your friends." Chaos Sonic said with happy eyes.

Sonic groans, glaring at the robot. Just then, a coconut hits Chaos Sonic's head. Dread and Gwen runs down from the corridor.

"Avast, scurvy dog!"

"Leave my brother alone, annoying bot!"

Dread and Gwen hits Chaos Sonic away with their swords.

"Dread? Sis?" Sonic gasped and was relieved to see them. "You guys are okay!"

"Sorry for the late, bro." Gwen smiled.

"I owe her one for saving me hide and opening up me eyes. Nyah ha ha!" Dread said before charging at Chaos Sonic.

"Must have took one too many punches today." Knucks said, not believing what he's seeing.

"That makes two of us... and two of you." Rebel said.

"Don't question it." Sonic said.

"What better way to win a fight than with a pair of Knuckles?" Gwen said before skating off with Sonic following after.

"No argument there." Rebel agreed and flew off.

Knucks followed after as Dread and Gwen joins the fight against Chaos Sonic, who jumps. Rebel kicks it down. Chaos Sonic fends off when Rebel kicks it again. Gwen, Knucks, and Dread hit it at once with their fists and fist whip. A light flashes. Chaos Sonic's eyes become red exes. Dread looks at Knucks and his eyes widens.

"Shiver me Timbers! Ye be me!" he said, pointing at him.

Gwen looks on between them, feeling herself blushing.

"Are you making fun of me?" Knucks asked, looking offended.

Chaos Sonic's eyes return. It spins its legs and kicks Dread, Knucks, and Gwen.

"Sis! Knuckle's... Woah!" Sonic called.

Everything in the corridor shakes as Mr. Doctor Eggman was just shaking Done It's hand.

"And you, Doctor—"

The Council feels the shaking as well and inside, Nine and his guards feels it too. The Void also shakes as Shadow dodges a flying rock.

"Well, this is new." he commented.

On the Mothership deck, the Council gets up from the shaking.

"Uh, what was that? An earthquake?" Don't asked worriedly, hopping back up on his floating seat.

"No, bigger. A ripple in time and space." Mr. Doctor Eggman said dramatically.

The Council looks up at the portals. Babble chuckles and claps, making his robot clap too.

"The varmint was right," Done It said, referring to Nine. "...guess that's what happens when one goes drilling holes in reality. You overeager fools!"

"Ah, whatever it is, we can fix it later. No sense stopping now." Mr. Doctor Eggman said, waving it off.

Done It then leaves.

After that shaking incident, Sonic, Gwen, Rebel, Knucks, and Dread went back to fighting Chaos Sonic.

"Ah!" Sonic yelped.

"Take this!" Chaos Sonic said.

"Oh, yeah? Take that!!" Gwen said, throwing electric bolts at it.

It dodges and throws a punch at her when she blocks it with her shield she summoned from her ruby. She pushed it back and send a flying kick at Chaos Sonic, bringing it down. It gets up and punches her away.

"Hey, Sonic, Gwen, are you there?" Nine called from the communicator.

"Sorry, pal, but we're a little busy at the moment. Woah!"

Sonic jumps away from Chaos Sonic and kicks it back. It gets up and goes to charge Sonic again when Rebel picks it up and throws it down at the crates. Dread, Knucks, and Gwen runs over to Chaos Sonic and holds it down along with Rebel.

"I have a plan. Follow my directions and lead it to me." Nine instructed Sonic.

"You sure?"

"Positive. But you got to hurry."

"What else is new? Hey, slow poke!"

Chaos Sonic looks up at Sonic. Gwen realizes what he's going to do after hearing Nine and Sonic's conversation from her communicator.

"Sonic, wait!" Rebel called.

But Sonic runs away. Chaos Sonic breaks free from them and chases after Sonic.

"Don't worry, guys. He has a plan." Gwen assured them.

Knucks rubs his head with a groan.

"I'm starting to think he likes traps."

"Aye, he does." Dread agreed, placing his hat back on.

Rebel looks at the two Knuckles with confusion.

"This is too weird." she commented, pointing at them.

"Not to me. It's like I'm in heaven." Gwen mumbled, blushing at Dread and Knucks.

The three turned to her.

"Huh?"

Gwen realizes what she just said and quickly shakes it off, feeling embarrassed.

"N-Nothing! I gotta go make sure Sonic's alright. I'll catch up with you guys later!" she said and roller skated away.

"Ain't she a beauty?" Dread said in lovestruck.

"No kidding." Knucks said, staring at where she left.

"Yeah..." Rebel sighed dreamily.

Gwen chases after Sonic and Chaos Sonic behind as Sonic leads the chase.

"Quick, take a right. And a left." Nine instructed through the communicator.

Sonic follows his instructions with Gwen catching up.

"Take a right, then up the stairs!"

The chase goes right and up the stairwell.

"Exit the top floor! The lab is at the end of the hall!"

The chase passes the guards that Nine disabled. Sonic and Gwen sees Nine waving from the glass window.

"Lead him this way!" he said.

Sonic and Gwen leads Chaos Sonic around the guards and into the power core room. Nine pulls the lever and activates a beam. Sonic and Gwen ducks a beam that hits Chaos Sonic. It crashes through a window and out, landing in pieces. Sonic hugs Nine and spins him around.

"We did it!" he cheered.

Gwen smiles and giggles at the look on Nine's face as he appears to be unfazed at this hug. Sonic quickly pulls away from him in realization.

"Oh, sorry. I, uh... I know you're not really a hugger."

"No, I'm sorry." Nine said, looking away with shame. "The Chaos Council used me. I didn't—"

"Nine. It's never your fault. He tricked you and me." Gwen assured him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Yeah, I never doubted you for a second. And that proves why." Sonic said.

"Only a true friend could pull off a save like that." she added.

"Friend? We're friends?" Nine asked, smiling a little.

"Hey, I'm still mad at you at that betrayal you pulled off." Gwen said, slightly glaring at him who flinches. "But I'll let it pass. You did help us."

"You bet we are! Uh, quick question. How are we gonna carry them all?" Sonic asked, gesturing to the shards. "They seem extra Shardy right now."

Nine looks from the power core to some cases by a wall.

"This will only take a moment."

Sonic nods as Nine heads to the cases. Gwen watches and looks at the shards with a frown, remembering the Council's words. Nine notices and frowns with worry. Sonic goes over and reaches for the shards.

"This case should hold the Shards and contain their energy." Nine explained. "The more the Shards interact, the more volatile and potentially catastrophic they could become."

Sonic places the blue shard into the case of the first section.

"Genius."

He then drops a green shard into a second and then a red shard in its third section. Nine closes the case with his mechanical tail.

"As always. Yay, teamwork!"

Sonic holds up his hand as Gwen does the same.

"Oh... High-five!"

Nine slapped both of their hands. The three start laughing.

"Yes!" Sonic grinned.

"Aha!"

They stopped laughing and froze.

"Stop right there, varmints!" Done It said as the Council arrived.

Sonic and Gwen deadpanned and slumped down in annoyance.

"I hate this place." they both said in unison.
