Rouge thought to herself for a while on who to fuse with, when she figured the obvious choice.

Why not fuse with Knuckles?

They both had problems that fusing with each other could solve.

Knuckles needed to get out more and be with his friends. Maybe even get the girl while he was at it?

Rouge wanted the Master Emerald, but Knuckles was sworn to protect it.

If she fused with Knuckles, the Master Emerald could belong to both of them.

She could even move her jewel collection up to Angel Island so it could be with the Master Emerald.

Not to mention they would have an unbelievable amount of strength in the same body.

It could fix both their problems, and maybe even have them together forever, with nothing to separate them.

Rouge's mind was made up at that moment.

She flew out of the temple and towards Angel Island.

When she got there, she saw Knuckles guarding the Master Emerald as always.

Rouge decides to fly down there and have some fun with the echidna first before asking the question.

As Knuckles was napping, Rouge softly landed next to him and whispered in his ear.

"Knuckie~"

Knuckles groaned in his sleep some and moved around.

She whispered the name again and saw Knuckles had his arms around the Master Emerald.

Rouge figured out that he was fantasying her in his sleep.

Rouge giggled some and soon bursted out laughing.

Knuckles woke up and glared at her with a blush on his face. "Really Rouge?"

Rouge tried to calm herself. "I'm sorry hun, I couldn't help myself."

Knuckles sighed and got up after she calmed down. "So how did it go on your hunt? Couldn't find anything and decided to come for the Master Emerald again?"

Rouge smirked. "If I wanted to take it now, I would have done it during your nap. And no, I did find something."

Rouge showed Knuckles the Shimmering Heart.

Knuckles looked at it in awe. "So the legends were real?"

Rouge nodded. "Yeah. This gem does exist."

Knuckles looked Rouge over some. "I guess it didn't work or you're probably too beautiful for it anyways."

Rouge blushed at the compliment. "No. It does work, just not in the way you think it does."

Knuckles looked at her curiously. "What does it do?"

Rouge sighed. "I'm supposed to use it to fuse myself with someone and share my looks with them."

Knuckles looked at Rouge with a raised eyebrow.

Rouge giggled some at Knuckles reaction. "I'm serious Knuckie, it's supposed to do that."

Knuckles nodded, agreeing with her some on the matter. "So why did you bring it here?"

Rouge looked at Knuckles face for the next reaction. "I was going to see if you like the idea of fusing with me."

Knuckles eyes widened. "WHAT?!?! ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?!"

Rouge looked at him with an amused grin. "Calm down Knuckie."

Knuckles breathed in and out until he calmed the stress out.

Rouge walked up to him. "You don't have to fuse with me. I was only offering you it because I think it may solve a few problems of ours."

Knuckles looked confused. "What problems?"

Rouge smirked. "Well for one, you need to get out more with our friends and maybe even get laid."

Knuckles blushed crimson. "Um...not to make the situation awkward, but can't I just do it with you since we've been close."

Rouge also blushed crimson. "Well...uh...yeah, but who says we can't find someone else to be with?"

Knuckles looked at her gem. "But what would we even be?"

Rouge looked at it too. "Who knows?"

Rouge then looked back at Knuckles. "The other problem is that we're both fighting over that Master Emerald over there. It's the only thing that's come between us in life."

Knuckles looked at her. "What would fusing do to fix that?"

Rouge smiled. "We could share the Master Emerald since fusing with you means I'll be the guardian too. I could also move my jewel collection here so we'll have everything."

Knuckles looked at the gem again. "That's it? There's no other catches besides us sharing a body?"

Rouge sighed. "No. There's more to it than that."

Knuckles tilted his head. "What else is there?"

Rouge held the gem out. "This not only merges our bodies, but also our memories and personalities."

Knuckles looked at her. "You mean...?"

Rouge nodded. "We won't be Knuckles and Rouge anymore, but instead a new person made from us."

Knuckles stayed silent for a while.

He kept thinking about what he should do with such a strange offer put in front of him.

He was supposed to be bound to the Master Emerald as it's last echidna guardian, not throw his responsibilities away for some invite for fun.

But Rouge did make a few good points.

Knuckles missed having the many adventures with Sonic and the others, and wished he could leave the island to be with them.

It also seemed like a smart idea for them to be sharing the Master Emerald that way, so they wouldn't always bicker with each other over it.

He also knew that Rouge was incredibly strong like him, especially on the legs she kicks with.

The two fused together would make them a force to be reckoned with.

No one would ever dare to take the Master Emerald if they were guarding it as one.

Plus Rouge wouldn't have a reason to steal it because they wouldn't exist as guardian and thief, but as an adventurous guardian willing to travel the world for the Master Emerald.

Knuckles looked back at Rouge again. "So..do you mind being a guardian for the rest of your life?"

Rouge smirked. "If we can both protect our friends and recover the Master Emerald, being the eternal guardian should be a walk in the park for us."

Knuckles chuckled. "Good. Then I'm ok fusing with you."

Rouge smiled at him, glad they were going to be together forever.

Knuckles looked at the gem. "Do you know how this thing works?"

Rouge shrugged. "No. There wasn't anything that said how to do it."

Knuckles sees a faint glow when it got near the Master Emerald.

Knuckles looked at her. "I figured it out! The Master Emerald can control it like the Chaos Emeralds."

Rouge smiled. "Right under our noses. So can you get it to activate it?"

Knuckles nodded. "Yeah. Only catch is that the Master Emerald has a mind of it's own when choosing a guardian. So we may wind up as whatever it wants."

Rouge nodded. "As long as we're together, I don't care if we're a guy or a girl or both."

Knuckles smiled at her and did the chant before talking. "Master Emerald, we ask you to grant the Shimmering Heart the power to fuse us together as the perfect guardian."

The Master Emerald glowed brightly and slowly dimmed down as the Shimmering Heart started glowing.

The two looked at it for a while until they found themselves looking at each other.

They both blushed at each other while leaning their faces towards each other.

The Shimmering Heart glowed bright enough to cover the altar when they hugged each other and started making out on the ground.

The glow got even brighter as their bodies started pressing into each other, merging their features.

Even their shoes, gloves and other clothes joined in the mix of the two.

In a matter of minutes, their minds started merging too, memories swirling around each other.

Knuckles experienced all of Rouge's memories.

Stealing a jewel for the first time.

Going on missions with Shadow.

And even meeting each other for the first time.

Knuckles also started feeling a strange attraction for Shadow after seeing everything Shadow did with Rouge.

Rouge experienced all of Knuckles memories as if they were hers.

Meeting and fighting Sonic for the first time.

Meeting her for the first time.

All the battles they fought.

Rouge somehow liked the idea of being the guardian of the Master Emerald.

She also started to develop some feelings for Sonic after experiencing Knuckles memories with him.

The light covered the entire island by now.

At the heart of the light, you could see one person inside made of both of them.

Out of nowhere, the Master Emerald started glowing again and surrounded the person.

The person was slowly tearing into two again.

But it wasn't Rouge and Knuckles, but two new beings made from them.

Both lights eventually faded to reveal the two people Knuckles and Rouge made.

One was male while the other was female.

The two looked themselves over for anything before turning to Master Emerald.

They summoned out Chaos from it, who looked at them.

The female spoke in a perfect female voice of the the bat and the echidna. "Me and him are going on a break for now."

The male spoke in a perfect male voice of the bat and the echidna. "Could you look after the Master Emerald while we're both gone?"

Chaos nodded and stood next to the Master Emerald.

The two walked off from the altar.

The female giggled. "Time for me to go find my boyfriend."

The male chuckled. "I'm going to go find mine too."

In a quick flash of light from the Master Emerald, the two were gone.

The power from the massive gem sent them into two new timelines made just for them.
