Chapter 3: Death Crab And My Name Is...
Mysteria's P.O.V
Eventually, we had a bit of a break and we were now exploring or in other words, racing each other around Costal Cliffside. We all enjoyed the wind racing through our hair and the scent of the sea blowing to this level felt like home for some reason.
We all stopped once we got to a cliff edge. We all decided to walk back to the beach. That is when Lukas began to talk to me.
"So...you feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm...I'm glad you're here too. I would have been a bit lost of what to do if you guys weren't you, especially you, buttercup." I told him, and it was true. The more the merrier.
But as we got to the beach...I noticed to figures heading for town.
"Hey, guys? There are two figures flying to town."
"How about we follow them? They could be Infinite & Romeo for all we know." Jesse asked.
"But what if they're not? I don't want you to get into that situation again!" Raven told him, knowing the past experience of following someone who isn't the person you're looking for.
"Well, how about we follow them anyway? It's worth the risk." Petra said, which was typical of her. But, If I have to be fair, checking it out would help us. I nodded at my friends and we raced towards the town.
And low and behold, it was the two people we were looking for. Just great...
They were yelling about prototype shards. They ordered the townspeople to give them any shards they had. The people looked confused, the pair looked quite weak, nearly about to collapse. I felt sorry. But that feeling was taken out of account when the pair lifted a bunch of the shards and the same sound we heard over and over again was heard once more. I heard a bang but it was far away from here, so probably nothing to worry about.
The other townspeople fled the scene as we raced to them. I briefly saw the shards as they turned into dust and flew off in the wind. Romeo saw me and just huffed in annoyance as he began to speak.
"And as per the norm, danger calls and the forces of good answer. I should have realised that our search for the shards would cause our paths to cross once again. I just didn't think it would be this soon."
I nodded at Nora and she gave me two shards. I held out my hand towards the duo but they slapped it away harshly, causing the shards to fly off into the sand near our feet. Then I noticed the Phantom Rubies they used to have on their chest were no longer there, but barely healed wounds...geez. Eggman must have really been that bad. Infinite spoke up next.
"We accept charity from no one, least of all you! You and that darn doctor took everything from us! Our pride, our power! And now we're forced to scavenge the earth for the remaining pieces of those wretched inferior models we destroyed and for what? Not even a fraction of our former abilities? I suppose it's inconsequential. Once we collect enough neither you or those blue and orange rats will be able to stand in our way!"
Nora then grimaced and waved their hand towards the environment and then back to the duo. I then asked them.
"She's asking if either of you remember this place." Romeo chuckled. His laughter sickeningly sweet but it was laced with hatred. Infinite just stared daggers at us all as Romeo spoke once more.
"You'd like to know if we remember this place? You poor child. Do you really us as the sentimental types? We have no memory of this place but feel that we'll remember it from this day on. We'll remember it as the place where we finally watched you fall!"
The banging was a lot louder this time and we saw the crab mech I took control of those few weeks ago. It was crashing from a cliffside and landing on the beach. It had to be an illusion, but it felt so real. It began to stomp towards us all, Nora and I just looked and signalled that we didn't think this was real, that it was only a trick of the light. Infinite then told us the truth, and a maddening truth at that.
"Tricks? You naive fools. We've moved past the mere party tricks from before. With the last remaining energy in those shards, we called that monstrosity here. That's no mere illusion. With enough of these shards, we can surpass what those rubies were capable of. You see, the prototypes were inferior, but not in a sense of potential. On the contrary. The prototypes were far TOO powerful, so powerful in fact that the doctor deemed too dangerous for use. Each robotic servant that attempted to control these prototypes were destroyed. Because, not only could they cast the illusions that the finished model could, they were also able to create matter from nothing. This, of course, meant that anything that was created could affect the user as well, so from what you know of the doctor's big scheme, he couldn't risk that." He paused. Romeo continued on for him.
"Fast forward to when we awoke. The doctor had finally managed to put a cap on the power of the originals, therefore creating the first-ever...safe and functional models. Although in the end, he decided to go ahead and use the originals that he stumbled across all those months ago. And it clearly backfired, because as you can see, those too shattered under the pressure. It's amazing to see what only a small amount of these shards can do as opposed to the originals. And I can almost taste the sweet vengence that will come about when we enough of these shards in our grasp." The pair both took a breath. Romeo ushered Infinite to continue on. He was too busy staring at me with daggers laced in his eyes.
"It seems that we four are indeed two sides of the same coin. Always at odds, yet so close. Who will find the shards first? Only time will tell. But if you'll excuse us, it looks like you have bigger problems to worry about."
They used another shard and teleported away. That was when the crab mech stomped right behind us. Looks like we need to wreck this thing.
"Ok, team, you get the legs, Nora & I will wire to the head a destroy this thing, okay?"
"Right!" We all got in our positions. The fight began. It took us around 10 minutes. But we leapt down once it began o explode as it clutter the beach, tarnishing what was untouched by Eggman's forces. It was quite sad, but that was when a bunch of people walked to us, applauding us, shaking our hands and cheering in glee. Nora & I were nervous at first but then Lukas took my shoulder and I smiled, embracing the warmth of a job well done. As soon as the crowd dispersed, we all walked to the beach once more.
"Why are we here again? Didn't we just talk with Infinite & Romeo here?"
"is it story time again?" Jesse asked for Petra.
"Yes, Jesse. Yes, it is. Once I tell you this. We need to head off to the mountains, That is where our story continues."
"Why?"
"We were there before. But where was I. Oh, right. We all walked out from behind the house, happy the goons were nowhere to be seen."
In The Past...
Romeo & the jackal walked out from behind the house and Nora & I followed close behind. We all walked into the clearing, back on the beach. The jackal spoke to us.
"See? What did I tell ya? They've got really short attention spa--" He tripped, only for Romeo to catch him but they both fell to the floor. We raced to them, about to ask if they were alright but Romeo was already laughing it off. The jackal pulled out the thing from the sand and it was a communicator.
"Heh, not our finest moment." We all looked around to see more of those communicators littered across the beach, not the best way to get rid of them, but alright.
"I guess we can add littering to their list of crimes," Romeo said, half-jokingly. Six & I chuckled and formed smiles on our faces. They started to pick up the rest of them, keeping the four most functional ones and but the rest in the nearest bin which was just off of the beach before walking back to us. The jackal had a thankful look on his face before he spoke.
"Y'know, I have yet to say thank you for helping us out back there. If you hadn't done that, I'd shudder to think what they would have done to me if they'd woken up first."
"Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, having my sister and the (A/n) around," Romeo told him with a tone only I knew meant.
He wanted me to stay.
The duo held out the first two communicators, their hands in the same place mine would be in the future. How do I know that? Just a hunch. We gingerly took the communicators.
"Well, I'm guessing you already know Romeo."
"Yes, hello, dear friend. Or should I say, dear sister of mine." He looked at me with joy, I looked at him with the same expression. Then the jackal spoke once more.
"And my name is Nil. What are your names?"
In The Present...
We all walked away from the beach, not uttering a word to each other. We walked over to the mountains. As what happened there...well, let's just say.
The four of us had one hell of an adventure.
And how fun that adventure was.
But that? I'll have to tell them. But only when we get there.
