Shadow X Shy!Reader - @HeartShadowRose_
GAHHH SORRY SORRY I NEARLY DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO UPDATE UNTIL NOW. PLEASE ENJOY, AND IF THE NAMES/INFO ON THE GUNS ARE OFF... BLAME WIKIPEDIA!!!
"Welcome new recruits, it is an honour to finally be able to send you out into the world. You have come far in your training, but now, you must adventure out to other sections, to gains the experience of a G.U.N soldier, and to protect Mobius."
It was a very proud day for many students. A select handful of both humans and Mobians were finally graduating their course and moving on to the next stage in their carriers. That included a (f/c) (a/t), who stood up the front with the other Mobians.
Her ears were pressed back as she looked up at the podium, her tail tucked between her legs. She was dreading the moment she would be called to the stage, would she trip? Make a fool of herself? Would people laugh?
And where would they send her? She wanted a good position, but somewhere like the heard of Station Square would be too much for her; with the amount of people and crime and soldiers already working there.
Her mind reeled on where she would go, what she would do, and how she would be able to deal with the other soldiers. You see, she wasn't good at communicating with other people, it's one of her biggest flaws.
The Sargent on the stage started calling out names, people walked up and shook hands, handed them a certificate, then told them where they would be going. Soon enough, it was the (a/t)'s turn.
"(Y/N) (L/N)." She stiffened, before looking up at the Sargent. He nodded to her, and she started up the stairs. Her heart pounded in her chest as she took her place next to him, shaking his hand and taking her certificate.
"(Y/N), you will be sent to the G.U.N H.Q in Station Square, congratulations." The Sargent smiled and shook her hand again.
The (a/t) only nodded, offering a quiet thank you, before going back to her seat. She gripped the certificate tightly, lucky to not rip it in her terrified hold.
Station Square, the one place she dreaded; the one place she didn't want to be sent to.
What were the odds?
The rest of the day seemed to go by in a blur, everyone received their reward and once given their district, they were grouped up and sent out to meet their Commanders of the H.Q.s. They were to be partnered up with someone who had more experience, to help them settle in. (Y/N) didn't know who she'd get teamed up with, but she knew instantly that she was going to dread the next few years if the person was too full on in any way; especially if they were the cranky type.
They had just arrived to the large building, the G.U.N logo hung over the entrance. Where these guys meant to be a government secret, or where they glorified cops?
The (a/t) shrugged to herself, before following the others inside. Everyone was chatting amongst their preferred groups, the feeling of excitement buzzed through the room.
"Man, this is going to be so cool." A wolf mumbled, looking around the enormous room, "Who do you think you'll get paired with?"
(Y/N) raised her gaze, staring at the silvery-white canine. Was she talking to her?
"U-Uh..."
"Yeah I'm talking to you." The wolf stated, blinking, "Can you talk?"
The (a/t) nodded, before holding her arm sheepishly. What was she meant to say?
"Right..." The wolf eyed her suspiciously, "Well anyway, I recon I'm gonna be paired with someone from Team Dark, Rouge would be pretty cool. We're actually friends outside of here."
(Y/N) stared at her, this wolf was friends with Team Dark?
"I know what you're thinking, and no. Shadow and I do NOT get along. He's just a brooding jackass, we'd fight too much. Actually we probably already do. We have very different opinions, which is funny because we actually have a lot in common."
Oh God she was a talker.
"Although he is such a cold hedgehog, I'm surprised Rouge can even get along with him. I would have pulled all my fur out if I had to work with him, could you imagine? I bet he'd be a strict partner, and I know that would cause problems."
Everyone had stopped in the middle of the room. Now what?
"Hopefully the Commander keeps my request in mind. If I work with Shadow, G.U.N won't last a day."
(Y/N) glanced at the wolf again, she was still talking. Even as the Commander walked into the room and everyone else stood to attention.
"You don't talk much do you?" She then asked the (a/t), before her orange gaze rose and she froze. The Commander was eyeing the two, waiting disapprovingly. (Y/N) lowered her gaze to his feet, the wolf following suit.
Once satisfied, the Commander nodded and turned his attention to the rest of the recruits.
"Welcome everyone. It seems we have a lot of newbies today, and that means a lot of sorting out. If you could all wait patiently, we will call you up one by one and assign you to your mentor. If you hear your name, enter this room."
He eyed the (a/t) and wolf off again, before walking into a room.
"Sorry..." The wolf mumbled, "I'm just super excited, I worked a lot to get here. How did you get here? Where are you from?"
(Y/N) stared at her again and she gave a weak chuckle.
"Alright, I'll stop talking."
"Haven the Wolf." A voice said over an intercom, and the wolf's ears perked. She raised her orange gaze to the roof, before stepping forward.
"Wish me luck." She offered a smile to the (a/t), before walking into the room.
Moments passed, and she didn't come back out. Another name was called. A human; he walked inside. He didn't come back out either. Where were they going?
(Y/N)'s heart started to beat in her chest, faster than normal. Where they in trouble? Were they getting rid of the troublemakers before sorting the others out? Had she done anything wrong?
More people were called, and none of them returned. Half the room was now gone, and the (a/t) started to ease. No way could that many people be in trouble, it's just how they do things.
And then her name was called.
"(Y/N) the (a/t)."
She was frozen for a moment, all eyes seemed to turn on her. Her cheeks were enflamed as she stood there, unable to move.
"Come on rookie." Someone pat her back, almost forcing her forward, "We're all waiting for you."
She let out a small squeak, before nodding and walking to the door. Her legs were shaky, who would she be paired with?
-Oh Gods not Shadow... Please not Shadow...-
Slowly, she opened the door. A brightly lit room made her cover her (e/c) eyes, waiting for them to adjust to the light. Finally, she could see a desk, the Commander sat behind it. There were two chairs in front of the desk, one was empty and the other had a black hedgehog.
He sat there, his back to her. The red stripes on his quills sent a cold chill down (Y/N)'s spine.
Oh no.
Oh no.
Was Shadow really going to be her partner? How was she going to work with him? She wouldn't be able to talk. Not with that intense red stare he was now giving her.
"(Y/N)?" The Commander brought her back to reality, "Have a seat."
The (a/t) nodded quickly, before slowly walking over and sitting down. She kept her gaze lowered, but offered a nod to the hedgehog. Would he think she was rude for not even looking him in the eye?
"As you both know, (Y/N) here is a new recruit, and Shadow, you are her partner. You two are to work together, train together, but don't worry. I won't force you to live together." The Commander stated, giving a smile so sweet it seemed sour, "But between training and mission, you are to stay at each other's side. Shadow, give (Y/N) the run down of how things are, how you do things, and what the most efficient way to do things are. I'm trusting you'll make another perfect soldier like yourself."
"You don't need another perfect soldier." Shadow stated blandly, his arms crossed, "I'm more powerful than this whole building combined."
"You agreed you would do this."
"Rouge talked me into it."
The human sighed, rubbing his face, "Anyway, (Y/N), I want you to report everything you learn while teaming up with Shadow. Anything that seems of importance should be written down."
The (a/t) nodded holding her arm.
"Alright, that's pretty much it. You two are dismissed. I recommend training for the rest of the day." The human leant back in his chair.
Shadow only sighed, before standing and walking to the side of the room; where there was a door. So that's where everyone else went. Tension seemed to leave the (a/t)'s body and she rose, before walking behind the hedgehog.
He ignored her, walking down the hall and to a large room. Other people were already training, and (Y/N) saw the wolf fighting a bat. So she did get paired with Rouge, lucky.
The wolf saw her and smiled, waving her hand, before being kicked in the ribs and falling to the ground.
"Idiot..." Shadow huffed, before turning to face the (a/t), "Alright, (Y/N) was it?"
She nodded.
"Right, today we'll focus on hand-to-hand combat, how much do you know?"
"U-Uh..."
"It's a simple question."
The (a/t)'s cheeks warmed up again and she played with the belt around her shirt. His stare was so intimidating, he was the overly serious one. He watched her for a moment, before sighing and rubbing his face,
"Why did I have to get the frigid one..." He mumbled, holding his hands over his nose.
(Y/N)'s ears lowered and she watched her feet. He didn't want to be paired with her either. Of course he didn't, but she couldn't help be so closed off. How was she meant to act in these situations? They don't teach you any of this in high school.
"Fine, how about we start with something else." He stated, looking around, "How are you with firearms?"
The (a/t)'s ears perked and she raised her head, nodding, "I'm... Good..."
The hedgehog smirked a little, "You'll have to prove that then, won't you? Let's go."
The two walked down the hall, away from all the fighting people and loud banging of fist against body, body against floor, foot against ribs. You get the idea. (Y/N) looked around the plain hallway, as much as she was terrified, she was also excited. Today didn't feel all that real to her.
Her eyes watched the back of the hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog. The Shadow the Hedgehog. Only the best agent in all of G.U.N, and he was going to train her.
The realisation seemed to dull the fear of his broodiness, seemed to make his seriousness less intimidating. Although she wasn't sure for how long.
Once they reached the firing range, the hedgehog handed her a pair of earmuffs, before plugging his own ears. He also grabbed some safety goggles for them both, and the (a/t) couldn't help but think he looked nerdy in them.
"I wouldn't normally wear this." He stated, sensing her gaze, "However I'm not sure of your skills yet, I'd rather be safe than lose an eye."
She nodded sheepishly, before he pulled a gun from his quills, loaded it, and handed it to her. A simple pistol, most likely for self defence. Assuming the pistol would even be useful to the hedgehog.
"Aim at the head and heart. I shouldn't have to tell you again." He stated, crossing his arms.
(Y/N) nodded, before walking over to the wall of glass panes. Choosing her standing position, the (a/t) eyed the target, before raising the gun. Her body was tense as she aimed, and then a cold stab of fear took over her body.
What if she did horribly? She'd gain no respect from Shadow, and her reputation would start off horribly. Heck, she might not even be trusted with a gun if she did badly.
And now she stood, frozen, afraid to take the shot. All she could see was the target, and how she was going to miss it, completely embarrass herself in front of the Godly agent, how would she be able to live with herself.
"You know, G.U.N are very picky with who they choose as their soldiers." Shadow's voice made her ear twitch, she nearly jumped, "I doubt you would have passed if you weren't a good shooter. It's vital to us to be on point. Plus you seemed very confident a moment ago."
What was he saying? And why?
She felt a hand on her arm, and she jumped again, taking a step away from Shadow. He watched her but did nothing else.
"Try not to be so tense, the throwback will knock you to your feet, even if it is a pistol." He stated, "And hold your feet at shoulder length apart, or you'll definitely end up on your ass."
The (a/t) nodded slowly, before taking positing again and raising the pistole.
"Keep your head straight, if you lean your head down, your shot will be angled." The hedgehog said, she straightened, before letting out a breath and firing the weapon.
The Mobian shot twice, hitting the target dead in the chest, and right in the middle of the head. She blinked, before smiling, her tail wagged. What a shot!
"Impressive." Shadow gave a light clap, "Now lets see how you are with other types of guns."
(Y/N) nodded enthusiastically, her eyes following him as he walked back to the weapons room. He returned with all different kinds of guns, from assault rifles to machine guns and smaller, hand guns.
"Let's find our what you're best with." He stated, before handing her a glock 17, "We'll start with the smaller guns, and then get into the heavier shooters."
She nodded again, before taking the glock 17, standing in position, and shooting it with ease. Next was an M1903 rifle. The shot caused a loud echo in the room and she stumbled back a little. She had hit the target's stomach.
"Alright, a rifle might not be the best choice." Shadow stated, taking the gun from her gently, "Although to be honest, these are used for hunting, not what we do."
The (a/t) agreed, and he handed her an AK-47. The assault rifle felt heavy in her arms, but still she set it up and aimed, before firing and hitting the target spot on once again. Shadow gave another clap, before taking the gun.
"Good, you seem to be able to use the heavier weapons as well. Now lets see you with a Škorpion VZ. 61." He handed her a shorter gun. She looked over it, before aiming and shooting. The bullets sprayed all over the wall, and the force of the gun pushed her back.
Shadow caught her, pulling the firearm from her hold. His arm was wrapped around her, his hand gripping her side tightly.
"Well, submachine guns are a no." He dropped it with the others, before scratching his quills, "You will also need to know how your gun works, in order to understand it and be trusted with one outside these walls."
He pulled away from the other soldier, walking over to a table and the glock 17; he sat down, before pulling the gun apart, "It's also good to know how to clean them properly."
He put it back together, before handing it to the (a/t), "I'm sure you already know that. We aren't meant to be training with guns yet, but considering you, I'd rather focus on something that isn't so physical, for now of course."
(Y/N) nodded, smiling slightly as she took the gun. Pulling it apart was a breeze, but this one seemed to be missing a piece, and she couldn't get it back together. Had she dropped a part of it?
The hedgehog watched her, before nodding and holding up his hand, "At least you know the key to building them. If it doesn't slide into place, that's not the right place."
She nodded, before taking the piece and fixing it up.
"Lets practice this for the rest of the day."
"Thank you." She said, before walking over and sitting next to him.
"It's alright." He stated, "I'd rather make this easier for the both of us, even if it means going against the planned schedule. Of course I'm the star student so the Commander will be alright with it."
She nodded again, before grabbing a Sako TRG-42 and cleaning it. The hedgehog watched, a smirk on his muzzle as she placed the weapon down.
"Looks like I might actually have competition." He stated, before grabbing the gun, "Can you do it with your eyes closed?"
She gave him a challenging glare, which made him chuckle. Maybe this won't be so bad after all.
