April Fools! (Manic)

... Yeah I know it's not April Fools... Just take the chapter for now ^^"

You sat up in your bed, suddenly awake and staring at your calendar. It was the 1st of April. April Fools Day. The one day of the year where pranks are actually allowed. The one day you and Manic get to pull the biggest prank of the century.

Jumping to your feet you ran out of the room, into the kitchen. Having a quick breakfast you ran out of the house.

Before running back.

You needed to change.

Finally you were on your way, running through the town to get to the place you and Manic had agreed to meet at. The green hedgehog was already there, sitting at the park bench and staring at the G.U.N building across the street.

Smiling, you snuck up behind the hedgehog, before tapping his shoulder and ducking behind a bush. You had to stifle a giggle as he looked around, shrugged, then continued his stare. Tapping his shoulder again, you quickly ran in front of him as he turned the other way.

"What are you doing?" You asked, causing him to jump, and acting innocent.

He turned to you and smiled, "(Y/N), I shoulda known..."

"Known what?"

"You were the one tapping me."

"Um... No I wasn't."

He shrugged, "Then I'm being haunted by an attention seeking ghost."

"You wish." You rolled your eyes, "Is it time yet?"

"No. Soon though."

You sat next to him, maybe a little too close for comfort but he didn't mind, he knew you didn't understand personal space.

"This had better work... That paint cost a lot of money..." Manic grumbled, checking his phone for the time.

"You're the biggest liar I ever heard."

He gave you a lop-sided smile, "April Fools?"

You giggled, "You can't fool me Manic Hedgehog, I know your reputation. I bet only half the paint was paid for."

"You know me so well."

You both turned back to the government building, watching and waiting for the biggest shock anyone in G.U.N will ever receive. Time ticked past, nothing happened. The town seemed still, silent almost as if it was anticipating the obvious.

Finally, there was a ticking sound from the bushes around the building, before a loud ringing and paint was thrown onto it. Purple and pink splattered together with yellow and blue, mixing and creating a childish mess. The hedgehog next to you laughed, while you beamed in delight. It worked!

The supposedly serious looking building now looked like something a bunch of kids had got their hands on, the seriousness was gone.

Boy were they going to be pissed.

Before anyone could run out and point fingers, the two of you quickly took off, disappearing into the park. Now strolling next to each other, you were lost in thought.

You were planning on telling Manic you liked him. And, if he laughed or anything, at least it was April Fools Day, that's the best cover up... Right?

The green hedgehog was actually being very quiet as well. It was strange, normally he'd be talking and joking about the prank you just pulled, so why isn't he?

"Hey uh... (Y/N)...?" He glanced at you, "I have something to tell you."

You glanced back, tilting your head, "What is it?"

"I uh... Like you...?"

He sounded unsure, but you couldn't stop staring at him, "As in... Like-like me?"

"Heh uh... Yeah?"

You were filled with joy, but you couldn't stop staring. This was exactly what you were going to do. But apparently your few seconds of staring was too much for the poor hedgehog to handle, as he laughed and rubbed the back of his head.

"April Fools?"

You frowned slightly, not sure if he meant it or if it was a cover up. But he went back to smiling before he started talking about the prank.

"You know, those were the best colours we ever chose. I'm glad we chose the bright ones, the dark ones wouldn't have been the same."

But your mind was still reeling on what he had said before.

"Did you mean it...? What you said before?" Cautiously watching him.

He gave you a confused looked, before noticing the cautious gaze in your eyes and deciding things would be awkward if he were honest.

"Uh.. No, it was just a joke..." He shrugged, however on the inside he felt crushed, since you clearly didn't like him the same way.

"Oh..." You looked down, "Okay... That's fine then..."

You were hurt as well. How could he play with your feeling like that? Sure he didn't know you had them, but that joke still hurt.

"I uh... I think I need to go..." You said.

"What? Why?" He turned to you, "You don't HAVE to, do you? It was just a joke. I didn't mean for it to be awkward."

You nodded, the stab to your chest got stronger at the more serious look in his eyes, "W-Well it is... I'm sorry... I need to go."

You hurried away from the green hedgehog, tears stinging your eyes. How could he play you like that? It was almost as bad as what Scourge does. And it felt worse than you imagined. You ran home, locking your front door and running to your room.

Meanwhile Manic was still left in the park, trying to figure out why he had to make that 'joke' and ruin your friendship. He sat on a park bench, tapping one of his drumsticks on the wooden chair. If he could take back the 'it was a joke' and be honest, maybe it wouldn't have been so awkward.

But why was it in the first place?

It was clear she didn't like him, the look of disbelief on her face was proof. Wasn't it...? He thought about it for a long time.

"Man... Girls are so confusing..." He mumbled, rubbing his head. But now he had to know, did she actually like him?

And if so, does that mean he hurt her?

That would make sense. Joking about feelings like that when the person could actually like you could really hurt them. The green hedgehog sighed and jumped up. He had to apologise, but how?

"Its needs to be something special..." He rubbed his jaw, before an idea popped in his head, "Man... She'll either love me or hate me..."

~Later~

The (a/t) was watching TV, a cup of warm tea in her hands. Rouge sat beside her, patting her shoulder.

"I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it hun..." The bat said, "It is April Fools day, maybe the joke is a joke and he actually does like you."

(Y/N) looked down, swishing her cup slightly, "I doubt it... I mean, I think he did what I was going to do, but I don't know... He really seemed like he was joking."

"Well, let me have a word with him and I guarantee he'll come running to you." She let out a giggle and the (a/t) gave a small smile.

"You're such a good friend Rouge. What would I do without you?"

"Get into a lot of trouble, that's why troublemakers stick together."

-But not together...- The thought crossed the (a/t)'s mind before she could stop it and she sighed again. The white bat sighed as well, before her ears twitched.

"Someone is out the front."

As if to confirm what she said, there was a knock at the door. (Y/N) went to open the door, but the bat grabbed her arm, ears still twitching.

"It's Manic... Let me deal with this." She mumbled.

"How did you know?"

Rouge smiled and tapped her ears, "Bat ears, it's kinda like I'm blind, even though I'm not. They're enhanced, so sound bounces off thing, giving me an idea of shapes around me."

"So... Are you blind?"

"No, but I'd survive if I was." She stood, before strutting to the door and opening it.

And she was right, it was Manic. He stood with an arm behind his back, a surprised look on his face.

"Uh... Hi Rouge... Is (Y/N) here?"

"It is her house." The bat crossed her arms, "So why are you here?"

"I... Want to apologise..." He looked down and the bat huffed, clearly not convinced. The green hedgehog glanced past her, before quickly showing her the bouquet of flowers. Her eyes lit up and she smiled.

"I'll go get her." Closing the door, the bat bounced back to the (a/t), "He wants to see you."

(Y/N) sighed and stood. Great, just what she needed. She opened the door, facing the green hedgehog. It was a moment of awkward silence, the two just staring at each other. Manic cleared his throat, before rubbing his head with his free hand.

"Look... I uh..."

"Yeah I get it, you don't like me." The (a/t) snapped, "Why are you here?"

He blinked, his original idea out the door, "I don't like you?"

"Why else would you joke about it." She huffed, "You even apologised and said you didn't mean it."

"Well... Uh..." His cheeks turned read, "I just..."

"Didn't want it to be awkward. Well nice job, you failed." She went to close the door. Manic was frozen, shocked by her cold attitude towards him. She was hurt. This is exactly how he would act if he was to.

So he put his foot in the door, causing the (a/t) to glare at him.

"April Fools..." He mumbled, before leaning forward and, pushing the door open, pressed his lips against her own.

(Y/N)'s eyes widened, she couldn't move. He was kissing her... Manic was kissing her! Her cheeks grew warm and she slowly kissed back, wrapping her arms around him in a tight embrace. The kiss lasted a while, before Manic slowly pulled back, clearing his throat, his cheeks as red as the (a/t)'s.

"I'm... Sorry about before... I thought today would be the best day to confess... 'Cause, you know, Aprils Fools is a great cover up."

She smiled, "Yeah... It is."
