They'd get lost in our hair

Or the man I chose to marry?

The way you screamed at me for leaving
Without a goodbye?

I wasn't there
But I remember
Only because I can feel the abundant pain
In your sullen dark eyes
Every time you gaze at me now.

And your face shuns mine.

Only because I had taken yours.
I don't bother to apologize
Only because you couldn't possibly know
The regret or the anger I felt inside.

Do you remember
The way the colors changed this fall?
Every time I look at them

As they quickly changed.
Last year I had been at your side
Fighting the changes and succumbing to the seasons
