Contusions
I keep my wishes in a jar, paper folded neatly
And I'm afraid you're one amongst a million
Of stranded paper planes that I threw out of the window
'Cause I knew I'd never get it anyway
I knew I'd never get you anyway
That doesn't make the fact that you were my last wish
Any different cause I still think of you when
I stare out of the window at a stray shooting star
I'm just reasoning with myself because you know what I say,
Wishful thinking is just a means of imagination
And since then I haven't wished for anybody else
I don't plan to either because my mind is too busy
Thinking of the times I've written your name on paper again
And scribbled it out because it makes my heart race
Yeah, I'm sorry anyway
Maybe that's all I'll have of you
Paper folded, crinkled, had enough of being chucked in a can
Amongst all of the other names of things I've wanted
And I'm afraid that you're at the top of my list this time
By this time I mean the hundredth time
I'm aware that I've never been a priority to you
And I doubt my name has ever appeared on something you've written
But these urges, these contusions that are left on my skin
Metaphorically of course because unknowingly you haven't hurt me yet
I'm just waiting to spy my initials on the list of things you don't want
I keep my wishes in a jar, paper folded neatly
And I'm afraid you're one amongst a million
Of stranded paper planes that I threw out of the window
'Cause I knew I'd never get it anyway
I knew I'd never get you anyway
