Concrete Angel: By Martina McBride

Before I begin this chapter, you should know that this is for all the children out there that have been through abuse. This song breaks my heart. For this one-shot, this involve two of my OCs from my story "Inuyasha: The Story Contiues" who are Iziyaoi and Arrosa. Iziyaoi and Arrosa will both be 10-year olds in this story. Please enjoy. WARNING: Very sad story with a somewhat happy ending.

"Bye Momma, I'm going to school." Iziyaoi told her Mother as she walked out the door. Iziyaoi, who was in 5th grade, walked out the gate of her house and saw that new neighbors were moving into the house next door.

There were movers moving things inside and as they were doing that, a little girl came out from the house. She had her head facing the ground as she walked past the movers and Iziyaoi with a lunch bag in her hand.

Hey, that's the new girl, Arrosa, Iziyaoi realized. But why is she wearing the same dress she wore yesterday? Does she just like it a lot?

Iziyaoi walked behind Arrosa and noticed that she had a few bruises on her arms and legs. They couldn't be seen that much though due to the dress.

At school, Iziyaoi sat in class and watched as Arrosa made her way inside carrying her textbooks. She looked distraught but just looked at her books, trying to keep her face hidden. However, Izzy saw that Arrosa had tears running down her cheeks.

I wonder what's wrong with her? Iziyaoi thought.

When lunch came, Iziyaoi walked into the cafeteria and saw Arrosa sitting at a table all by herself with her packed lunch.

"Um, can I sit here?" Iziyaoi asked when she approached Arrosa.

"Sure." Arrosa barely spoke above a whisper.

Iziyaoi sat down at the table and kept glancing from her lunch to Arrosa. "So, do you like school so far?" Iziyaoi asked, trying to start up a conversation with the new girl.

Arrosa just shrugged her shoulders and drank her water.

"Uh, Arrosa, if you don't mind me asking, how did you get those bruises?"

"I fell." Arrosa answered.

"You're lying," Iziyaoi responded. "I can tell when people are lying. How'd you get those bruises?"

Arrosa turned her head away. "I don't want to talk about it."

"Okay, well then, let's talk about something else. Do you like books?"

"Yes."

"Me too! I have a whole bookshelf of books at home. Most of them are graphic novels but I have a lot of other books too."

"I have at least a hundred books."

"No way!"

And so, Iziyaoi was able to get Arrosa out of her shell. She and Arrosa talked and talked to each other and soon became friends. As they walked home, Arrosa and Izzy began laughing as they talked to one another. During the day, Iziyaoi made a friendship bracelet for Arrosa, which was a blue bracelet that had Arrosa's name on it.

When the two were almost home, Arrosa stopped dead in her tracks. Iziyaoi looked back her new friend with confusion on her face.

"What's wrong Arrosa?" Iziyaoi asked.

"Uh.....nothing." Arrosa answered as she looked at her house warily.

Iziyaoi raised her eyebrow in suspiscion as she watched Arrosa walk into her house with a look of sorrow on her face.

*******************************

As Iziyaoi laid in bed that night, she couldn't help but think about Arrosa. She kept turning in her sleep, trying to get comfortable. Something was strange about Arrosa; her bruises, being in the same dress, looking sad at school, and being scared about going home. What did it all mean? Then Iziyaoi remembered at school about abuse and how to spot it; depression, bruises, fear.

"Arrosa's being abused." Iziyaoi whispered to herself. She got out of her bed and saw Arrosa through the window. Arrosa was brushing her hair from her face while looking in the mirror that was in her room. Arrosa didn't notice Iziyaoi looking at her.

"Maybe I should tell Mama and Papa about the abuse," Iziyaoi said to herself. "But what if I'm wrong? What if Arrosa isn't being abused?"

As Iziyaoi was contemplating on what to do, she noticed that someone had walked into Arrosa's room. He was a man with long, black hair and eyes that were not only red, but full of malice. He noticed the blinds were opened and closed them. That didn't stop Iziyaoi from hearing Arrosa screaming.

Iziyaoi quickly ran to her parent's room and jumped on their bed. "Mama! Papa! Arrosa's getting hit by a man!" Iziyaoi shouted.

"What's wrong Iziyaoi?" Kagome asked as she sat up.

"Mama, please call the cops. Arrosa's getting hit." Iziyaoi begged.

"What?!" Inuyasha questioned. He went into Iziyaoi's room and could see the shadow of a man smacking something on the ground. "Kagome, call the cops, right now."

Several minutes later, a couple of police cars, an ambulance and a firetruck pulled up to the house next door. Kagome and Inuyasha stood at the porch door and watched as police and a few paramedics went inside. Iziyaoi watched from behind her parents as they dragged out the man who was hurting Arrosa. He was placed into a cop car and then driven to the jail house down the road.

A cop soon came up to the family of 3 and asked them questions. "We never got to know the neighbors," Kagome told the cop. "They just finished moving in yesterday-"

"What about Arrosa?" Iziyaoi asked, interrupting her Mother. "Is she okay?"

The cop's face turned dismal. Before he could answer, a stretcher came out of the house with a blanket covering over a small body. Kagome covered her mouth as she watched the stretcher being taken from the house and Inuyasha just growled with rage, knowing he was helpless to help the person underneath the blanket. Iziyaoi knew right away it was Arrosa because she saw one of the arms that wasn't covered by the sheet had a blue bracelet on the wrist that had Arrosa's name on it.

*********************

The funeral was small. Only Iziyaoi, her parents, some friends from school, and a few of Arrosa's family members showed up. There was a statue of an angel that stood in a shaded place. It was of an angel and underneathe it was a plague that had Arrosa's name on it. Her birthday was on their, along with when she died- which was only a week before.

Iziyaoi had her head down the whole time. She realized Arrosa's brithday was going to be in a few days, but she wasn't around to celebrate it. Kagome held a tissue to her face as she wiped away a few stray tears from her cheeks. Inuyasha stood by her side and had a firm shoulder around his wife.

Soon the funeral had ended and Iziyaoi was left standing there. She had tears running down her cheeks as she thought of the short friendship she had had with Arrosa.

As she was in deep thought, Iziyaoi felt a hand tap on her shoulder. She turned to see that Arrosa was there.

"A-arrosa?" Iziyaoi asked with disbelief.

Arrosa nodded. She wasn't in her dress that Iziyaoi last saw her in; now Arrosa had on a white robe with bruises no longer on her arms and legs. Behind her back were wings that were stretched out. "Iziyaoi, I came to say good-bye." Arrosa said with a silky voice.

"Good-bye?" Iziyaoi asked.

Arrosa nodded. "I'm going to Heaven, with my Mother." Arrosa said with a smile. "But I wanted to say, thanks for being my friend."

Iziyaoi quickly embraced Arrosa in a hug and Arrosa gave her a hug back. Slowly, Arrosa disappeared until she no longer was there.

"Iziyaoi, come on, we need to go home." Kagome told her daughter from the car.

"Coming Mama." Iziyaoi called before looking down at Arrosa's plague. On it read: "Arrosa, a fragile soul caught in the hands of fate. Now she's a Concrete Angel."
