Running out of moonlight
Whoever wrote that vampires were masters of the shadows and sneaking around, lied. Aria poked her head from around a suit of armor, waiting for anyone to walk past for a moment before she tiptoed to another suit, completely forgetting about her lavender dress making it easier to spot her.
She bounced from suit to suit before flouncing into a different hallway towards her destination. She stopped when she saw two guards approaching, pretending to observe a painting on the wall nearby. She had her head tilted to the side with a single digit resting on her chin, attempting to look lost in complete thought at the painted landscape as the guards gave each other a puzzling look as they walked by the newborn. Aria waited until she couldn't hear their footfalls were no longer detectable by her before racing down the hall and barreling towards the garage.
She practically flung open one of the garage doors, spilling into the car filled space. Aria made sure to close the door behind herself after one final glance to make sure she wasn't followed before turning, looking for her mate.
"Alec?" She called out softly, hoping he'd hear her and that the others in the castle couldn't.
"Over here, Honeybee."
Aria gave a small bounce on her toes before running to the voices origin. Between the parking spaces, each one a holding a different style of car with no two colors being exactly the same nor model, she glided coming to rest in front of Alec, casually leaning against the hood of a matte black Alfa Romeo Giulia.
"Tryin' to impress me, Volturi?" Aria questioned with a teasing smile.
"I always am," Alec responded, pushing off the car and pulling Aria closer to himself, "Are my attempts working so far?"
Aria giggled and gave Alec's nose a quick peck. "Maybe, maybe not, ya may neva know."
Alec chuckled before kissing his mate. "I'll take that as a yes."
Remembering why they met in the garage, Alec opened the passenger side door in a swift move and gave an over exaggerated bow. "M'lady, your chariot and the night awaits."
Rolling her eyes, Aria climbed into the passenger seat as Alec closed the door and climbed into the driver's side. One final jingle of the keys before Alec threw them into the ignition and sped off into the night. Alec sped through the winding cobble streets he had memorized like the back of his hand.
Aria sat in silence, her hands folded in her lap, staring out the window her nerves eating her alive. She didn't know what was so different this time, perhaps it was that she was just like Alec on this date, perhaps it was the potential that they could be caught and punished for defying Aro. Something stirred inside Aria, the always rule follower never the rule breaker. This was the first time she actually did something wrong, and if she didn't focus on her nerves, it was thrilling.
Alec would steal glances towards his mate before smirking and turning on his radio, putting the volume to a decent level that wouldn't overstimulate Aria's newly heightened sense of hearing before reaching over and grabbing her hand. On pure instinct, Aria's fingers spread, letting their fingers intertwine with no opposition. Alec's smile only grew as Aria's thumb gently stroked one of his knuckles, her attention being pulled back to him and their moment of serenity.
At a leisure pace, Aria began to hum along to the melody she was all too familiar with. She looked down to the digital screen of the dashboard Alec's phone paired with, the car playing Under Pressure.
A tiny scoff of disbelief left her as she turned to a smirking Alec. "When did ya start listenin' to Queen?"
"When I saw the love of my life dancing and cleaning to a few of their songs within the first few weeks we met," Alec pointed out, "I wanted to have something to talk to you about if the moment presented itself also."
Aria chuckled and kissed Alec's hand. "Well do ya like modern music so far?"
"It's a bit odd, what was with the whole R&B era in the early 2000s?"
Aria laughed and threw her hands up in surrender, "I have no idea."
Alec slowed the car before turning onto a road that most wouldn't have noticed from the main road. The road beneath the tires changed from asphalt to dirt and rocks, low laying tree limbs covering the car as the vehicle moved forward. The luxury car that was definitely not built for the off road conditions gave protest but continued on until finally coming to a clearing and halted in it's tracks.
"Wait here," Alec ordered as he climbed out the car, "and cover your eyes."
Aria crossed her arms, "Magic word that starts with P?"
Alec thought for a moment. "Please?" He asked.
"Actually, it was peanut butter, but since ya said please," Aria giggled and covered her eyes.
Quickly Alec had unpacked the trunk laying everything out just right before coming back to the car, opening the door for Aria.
"Is it safe to come out?" Aria asked, eyes still covered.
"Not quite," Alec said, unbuckling Aria's seatbelt before she could forget about it, "now it is."
Aria climbed out of the car, facing Alec. "You're neva gonna let me live down the seatbelt incident, are ya?"
"Not as long as I live and breathe."
Aria gave her loving boyfriend's shoulder a playful shove before he lead her towards a checkered picnic blanket and plush blanket to cover up with. Aria was at a loss for words once more, Alec brought her to a cliff, looking out over a distant twinkling town in the base of the valley, but that was not what took her breath away. It was the star filled sky that laid on full display with the beautiful full face of the moon for the pair to see.
"There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight," Alec explained, as he wrapped his arms around Aria's waist, "I thought you might like to witness it."
"Oh Alec," Aria breathed, turning in his arms to face him, "I don't deserve you."
Alec shook his head before resting his forehead against his girlfriends. "Correction: I don't deserve you. You, Honeybee, deserve the world."
Walking backwards Alec lead them to the blanket and pulled Aria down with her giving a small yelp of surprise. Aria nestled herself between Alec's legs the blanket secured around them both, watching the night sky as slowly meteors streaked across the sky in blazing trails of white.
"Make a wish," Alec whispered into his mates ear.
Aria obliged once more, closing her eyes, wishing for what her heart truly desired as Alec secretly did the same behind her, knowing exactly what he wanted in that moment, for what he wanted for a while just didn't have the guts to say it aloud. Maybe one day, but for the moment he would just enjoy the time he had with Aria before they had to go back to the castle.
