Dad and Mars
When we were just young girls, Dad got us a telescope
He told us 'bout the planets while my sister and I looked at Mars
I said to him, Why can't we just go there?
I know it can't be too far
We could get a map somewhere
and see all the folks on Mars
He said, Honey, it takes a spacesuit and a spaceship
Mars hasn't enough air to breathe or food to eat
But someday, if we're smart, NASA will build one
And send good men to space.
I waited and I grew up and I grew older and I waited
But we still hadn't sent good men to Mars
I saw man walk on the moon in my lifetime
NASA and many countries sent robots to Mars
But I still dream about boarding a ship
And traveling in space.
