Chapter 8
Sonic, Inferno, Saphie and the carpet were at the courtyard that night.
"What am I going to do? Flame won't even let me talk to her. I should have known I couldn't pull off this stupid prince wish." Sonic sighed sadly.
Inferno tried desperately to open a tuna can but due to being an elephant she couldn't each time she crushed the cans and throws them to a pile.
Saphie was playing a game of chess with the Carpet, "So move" She said. The Carpet knocked away a black piece of the board.
"Oh, that's a good move." She then imitates Rodney Dangerfield, "I can't believe it. I lost to a rug." She said.
"Saphie, I need help." Sonic said to her.
Saphie appeared as Jack Nicholson, "Alright sparky here's the deal. You wanna court the little lady, you gotta be a straight shooter, do ya got it?" She said to him.
"What?" Sonic asked her.
Saphie appeared normal with a chalkboard, "Tell her...the TRUTH!" She turns the table to show the large glowing text 'truth', but Sonic wipes it away.
"No way! If Flame found out that I'm some crummy street hedgehog, she'd laughed at me." Sonic said, putting back his turban hat on his head.
"A woman appreciates a man who can make her laugh!" Saphie said, appearing as a lamp on his head. Sonic frowned and pulled the chain to turn off the light, Saphie appeared with the real turban.
"Sonic, all joking aside, you really got to be yourself." Saphie said.
"Hey, that's the last thing I want to be. Okay, I'm gonna go see her. I gotta be smooth, cool, confident. How do I look?" Sonic said, folding his cape.
"Like a Prince." Saphie sighed sadly. She watched Sonic fly the carpet up to Flame's balcony.
--------------------------------------------------
Flame was resting on her bed feeling down and bored. Stripes was feeling sad for her. She had just one more day left before she has to marry a prince without rejection.
"Princess Flame?" Sonic's voice came. Stripes got up and growled.
"Who's there?" Flame sat up.
"It's me, Prince Sahib, Uh...Prince Sahib Antarah." Sonic deepens his voice a bit.
"I do not want to see you." Flame looked away in anger.
"B-But Flame, just give me a chance." Sonic begged. But Stripes growls at him.
"Just leave me alone!" Flame said angrily.
"Down kitty!" Sonic said to Stripes, who snarled at him.
-------------------------------------------
Under the balcony, Saphie and the Carpet listened to them.
"How's our beau doing?" Saphie asked. Carpet made a cut throat sign and she face-palms.
-------------------------------------------
"That's a good kitty. Down kitty." Sonic waved his turban at Stripes.
Flame looked at him and noticed that he looked familiar. "Wait! Do I...know you?" she asked as Stripes moves away from Sonic.
"Uh, no no!" Sonic puts the turban back on.
"You remind me of...someone I met in the market place." Flame said. Saphie appeared as a bee near Sonic.
"I have servants that go to the market place for me. Why I even have servants who go to the market place for my servants, so it couldn't have been me you met." Sonic lied.
"Hm...no, I guess not." Flame spoke a bit disappointed as her ears lowered down.
"Enough about you, Casanova. Talk about her! She's smart, fun, the hair, the eyes. Anything--pick a feature!" Saphie whispered.
Sonic clears his throat. "Um, princess Flame...you're very...."
"Wonderful, glorious, magnificent, punctual!" Saphie whispered.
"Punctual!" Sonic blurted out.
"Punctual?" Flame turned to him with a confused look.
"Oops sorry." Saphie smiled nervously.
"Beautiful." Sonic changed his word.
"Hmm, I'm rich too you know." Flame smiled sweetly at him.
"Yeah." Sonic was in a trance from that gorgeous smile from her.
"The daughter of the sultan." Flame slowly walked up to him.
"I know." Sonic grinned a bit.
"A fine prize for any prince to marry." Flame got close to him, still smiling sweetly.
"Uh, right. Right. A prince like me." He said shyly.
"Warning, warning!" Saphie shouted quietly in Sonic's ear and flies away.
"Hm, Right. A Prince like you. And every other stuffed shirt, swaggering, peacock I've met!" Flame's words became an insult as she pulled his turban and cape over his head.
"Mayday, mayday!" Saphie got her back on fire and crashes.
"Just go jump off a balcony!" Flame said and turns away.
"What?" Sonic blinked.
"Stop her! Stop her! Do you want me to sting her?" Saphie asked him.
"Buzz off." Sonic said to Saphie.
"Okay, fine. But remember; bee yourself!" Saphie hides in the lamp underneath Sonic's turban.
"Yeah right." Sonic said and pulls down his turban hat to hide the lamp.
Flame's ears perked up as she turned around. "What?"
"Uh..... you're right." Sonic sighs in disappointment, "You aren't just some prize to be won. You should be free to make your own choice." he said.
Flame and Stripes glance at each other in confusion, then look back at him.
"I'll go now." Sonic walks off the edge of the balcony.
"No wait!" Flame exclaimed in panic.
"What? What?" Sonic's head poked out again.
"How...How are you doing that?" Flame asked him and looks down to see him.
Sonic flew up to her on the flying carpet. "It's a magic carpet."
"It's lovely." Flame smiled slightly, allowing the carpet to kiss her hand.
"You want to come for a ride?" Sonic asked her, "We can gather around the palace. See the world." he said.
"Is it safe?" she asked.
"Sure, do you trust me?" Sonic reaches his hand out.
What he just said made Flame remember that same sentence from the boy she met in the market place, "What?" she asked.
"Do you trust me?" Sonic asked again smiling.
"Yes." Flame accepted his question, she took his hand as he pulled her onto the carpet. Stripes watched them leave the Palace in the night of Agrabah.
"Whoa..." Flame holds onto Sonic's shoulder. Sonic began singing a song for her.
"I can show you the world.
Shining, shimmering, splendid.
Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?"
He hands her a flower as they flew down the street and then up in the sky
"I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride."
Sonic and Flame were higher up in the sky among the clouds.
"A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming."
Sonic sang as Flame smiled and started singing.
"A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you."
Flame sang with a beautiful singing voice.
"Now I'm in a whole new world with you."
They flew near some birds and shock one.
"Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky,
A whole new world."
They both dive down in the Nile river in Egypt.
"Don't you dare close your eyes,
A hundred thousand things to see.
Hold your breath- it gets better
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be."
They flew past the sphinx and startled one of the workers, causing him to accidentally break the sphinx's nose.
"Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
(Every moment red-letter)
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you."
They came to a herd of wild horses after passing the pyramids and Flame gently pets one of them. They soon came to Greece.
"A whole new World,
A whole new World
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me."
They then finished singing with the carpet touching the water. Later, they were at China, where fireworks were fired into the sky. Sonic and Flame were sitting on the roof with the carpet.
"It's all so magical." Flame said.
"Yeah." Sonic smiled.
"It's an shame that Inferno would miss this." Flame looked at him.
"Nah, she hates fireworks. She doesn't really like flying either. That is...oh no!" Sonic's eyes widened slightly, realizing that she tricked him.
Flame pulled his turban off, "You are the boy from the market! I knew it. Why did you lie to me?" she asked him in a serious tone.
"Flame I'm sorry." Sonic lowered his ears.
"Did you think I was stupid?" Flame asked.
"No!"
"That I wouldn't figure out?" Flame threw the turban back to him.
"No. I mean, I hoped you wouldn't. No, that's not what I meant." Sonic said nervously.
"Who are you? Tell me the truth" Flame crossed her arms.
"The truth?" Sonic asked, he looks at the Carpet, who gives a sign of hope.
"The truth...the truth is...I sometimes dress as a commoner to escape the pressures of palace life. But I am really a Prince." Sonic lied.
"Why didn't you just tell me?" Flame asked him.
"Well, you know, um...royalty going out into the city in disguise, it sounds a little strange, don't you think?" Sonic asked, his feather on his turban fell down.
"Not that strange." Flame said and flips up the feather. She then cuddles with Sonic.
Later they arrived back at the Palace where Sonic allows Flame to step off the carpet to the balcony.
"Good night my handsome Prince." Flame smiled warmly.
"Good night my princess." Sonic smiled as well. They lean in to kiss but the carpet makes Sonic bump into Flame's lips. Both of their eyes widened slightly, but they slowly closed them. After the short kiss, they pull away for air.
Flame smiled softly as she walked away from him. She looked at him one last time before going into her room.
