"Come on, hurry up!" Scourge hissed as he tapped his foot impatiently at Sonic who was knelt by Shadow's grave where the single rose had grown out from.
"I'm hurrying...just give me a sec," Sonic sighed, "Shadow...it's been some time since we've seen each other, I hope you are doing all right up there." he stopped and when he heard Scourge telling him to hurry again," Well, I'll talk to you later."
The blue blur patted the gravestone before getting up and walking back to Scourge.
As they walked away they didn't notice the strange mist building up around the rose above the grave, slowly outlining a handprint Sonic had left when he gently patted the ground.
"Why do you care so much, Blue? He's dead" Scourge said with a hand around Sonic's shoulders.
Sonic folded his ears, feeling a bit insulted, "Because he is my first and only love...he made me happy just as I made him happy. And as long as I remember him, he always will be living in my heart."
"Oh please. If you ask me its all nonsense. He only used you to get what he wanted for those three days" Scourge said as he pulled Sonic closer to him, "As for me. I already get what I want" he smirked and forced Sonic into a kiss.
Sonic didn't want to believe what Scourge said...heck, he didn't even purr during their supposed "kiss"...he just stayed there and just accepted it.
Scourge pulled back as they walked into the house, sitting down in the recliner.
"Anyways, I'm going to wash up if ya don't mind..." Sonic grumbled as he went upstairs, "Why do I even hang out with him to begin with..."
As he walked up the stairs he looked at a picture of him and Shadow. Scourge had punched it during one of their fights and there was a crack going right up the middle.
"Maybe it's time I bought a new picture frame..." Sonic sighed.
He held the picture and walked upstairs to his room, laying on the bed as he looked at the picture.
"I miss you so much Shadow..." Sonic said softly, a tear dripping down his muzzle, "I wonder if you are watching me."
The windows flew open suddenly, making Sonic jump.
"Heh...must be the wind.."
Sonic looked up at they sky, before setting the picture down--he lifted his glove cuff and looked at the ring Shadow had given him--he touched it gingerly. But that's when Blue felt a touch on his shoulder, he quickly turned around, but saw no one there. "Weird..."
He stood and walked to the bathroom to wash his face. He filled the sink and scooped the water up in his bare hands, splashing it into his face. Slowly he looked into the mirror, staring at his reflection. He squinted a little, had he just imagined that....had he seen someone behind him..?
"O-Okay now this is creeping me out..." Sonic said, staring at the mirror, "What the heck did I just see."
"What are you doing?" Scourge said as he stepped in, "you said you were washing up. Its been half an hour! Time for dinner"
"Geez...calm your tone would ya...: Sonic said, folding his ears.
But Scourge had already gone downstairs to watch TV.
Sonic sighs and walks down, "What are we eating anyways?"
"Whatever your cooking" Scourge said with a flick of his hand.
"Fine..." Sonic went to the stove and began to make some rice, chicken and other dishes.
Tears dripped down his face as he burnt his hand a little on the stove. He ran it under the cold water from the tap, soon starting to sob.
He stayed like that for a while, hunched up on the floor beside the sink. he smelt the food and quickly got up, tending to it quickly as he sniffled.
'Okay...try to keep a hold of yourself hedgehog...' Sonic thought to himself as he checked the food once more before wiping his tears. "Food is ready!" he said.
Scourge walked in and sat at the table, waiting impatiently for Sonic to bring his food.
Sonic served the food on two plates before setting one for Scourge and himself, then poured a drink for the green hedgehog as well and finally sat down. "Hope you enjoy it." he said.
"Bout time.." Scourge growled and hungrily ate.
Sonic ate himself and then watched Scourge lose his grip as his face fell into his plate of food--the blue blur couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Food looks great on you Scourge!" Sonic laughed.
The green hedgehog snarled and slapped him.
"Don't laugh at me!" he roared.
Sonic winced and growled a bit, "hey it was just a joke, learn to lighten up ya green bastard..." The blue blur froze a bit as he saw Scourge's anger rise and boil--he knew he done it this time; he tries to rush out of the kitchen, but the green hedgehog just managed to grab his arm.
"Let me go!" he shouted as he struggled.
"How DARE you disrespect me!" He growled and punched him in the face, watching Sonic scrambled back to his feet and run to his room crying.
Sonic continued to sob under the covers--he wished he could just get out and away from Scourge, but it didn't matter what he did...he knew that the green hedgehog will find him.
The window opened again as the wind cirled around Sonic's wrist that had the ring on it.
Sonic sniffled as he felt the wind on his wrist. "What's...going on?"
The door slowly shut as did the windows as the wind circled around the picture of him and Shadow.
Sonic was getting spooked, but at the same time was wondering why he's been feeling this wind all day...he looked at the picture and picked it up, feeling the wind circle around him once more. That's when he realized this wasn't any ordinary wind...
"Sh...Shadow..." Sonic spoke.
He felt the wind open his hand slowly as Shadow's own hand slowly materialized in it, his fingers between Sonic's. Slowly his whole body started to form, transparent with glowing golden eyes.
Tears flowed endlessly down Sonic's muzzle as he watched his love appear in front of him--he couldn't believe he was actually here. "Sh-Shadow...I-I thought I would never see you again." Sonic sniffled.
Shadow smiled and knelt down beside him, hugging him tightly.
"I missed you..."
Sonic buried his face into his lover's chest fur, holding him close as well, "It's so great to see you again...b-but how am I able to see you?"
"You believe" Shadow smiled and stroked his head quills, "Only those with a heart of gold and a free spirit can see things people only imagine seeing"
Sonic smiled, but his fur quickly stood up as he heard Scourge banging on the door, yelling his name. "N-No..." he quietly whimpered.
"Get out here right now!!" Scourge snarled, "That food was burnt! Horrible!"
Sonic quickly scrambled under the bed, curled a bit and shaking. "N-No..I won't Sc-Scourge...I refuse to c-come out." he spoke with some fear.
The door was forced open as the green punk walked in, grabbing him roughly.
"Do as I say!"
Shadow tried to do something but his hands went right through Scourge, ears pinned back.
"Sonic!"
"Stop it Scourge! Y-your hurting me!" Sonic said, tearing up.
"Oh you haven't experienced the worst pain yet." Scourge growled.
Sonic yelped as he was thrown across the room, he tried to get up, but Scourge followed up his pain by punches, whips and other torturous means before Sonic just laid there, shivering and cringing in pain.
Shadow ran forward, helping him up even though Scourge couldn't see him.
"Stay down!" Scourge snarled and pressed a foot down on his back.
Sonic yelped as he hit the floor, groaning as he look at Scourge with his good and black eyes. "Wh..why are you doing this?" he asked in pain.
"Because I OWN you!" Scourge snarled and grabbed him by the throat, throwing him across the room.
Sonic yelped once more as he made a hard impact with the wall before passing out.
Later
His eyes slowly opened, finding himself in the cave with the animals. Shadow was sitting beside him, looking worried as he tended to the wound on his head.
"How I get here?" Sonic asked, trying to get up, but groaned in pain and laid back down.
"Shhh..." Shadow gently held him close and nuzzled him, "Its alright...I brought you here"
"Thank you...for saving me..." Sonic smiled.
The ghost smiled and stroked his head quills.
"Just don't move. You hit your heard pretty hard"
"I'll try not to..." Sonic said, "Ugh...hate Scourge..."
The animals were all sleeping around Sonic to keep him warm, the wind blowing roughly outside.
Sonic smiled then looked at Shadow and asked, "So...how is it up in heaven?"
"Heh..if only I knew...I wasn't allowed to go. Something about unfinished business. I think it was to save you" he smiled.
"Well I definitely needed saving," Sonic sighed, "I thought I was a goner there..."
"How in the world did you ever get mixed up with him?" Shadow asked as he nuzzled close to Sonic.
"I was forced..." Sonic sighed, "I tried so hard to get away, but no matter what, he had his hold against me..."
Sonic noticed Shadow's look suddenly change--he recognized that glare as well...the blue blur knew he couldn't slide away from this situation.
"Wh-What?" Sonic asked nervously.
"Your lying..."
"W-What makes u think that?" Sonic asked.
Shadow smiled and kissed his forehead.
"I've known you for a very long time Sonic. I know when your lying"
"Well...ummm...I-I...kinda met him first..." Sonic said, "P-Please don't get mad...but once you were gone, I needed that emptiness filled."
He nodded in understanding.
"Go on"
"When I first met Scourge, he was just, so caring and nice...he helped me fill that emptiness I was feeling, but as the relationship went along..." Sonic spoke, "Well, you kinda saw what he did to me...all that abuse." The blue blur just shivered thinking about it.
"Oh Sonic...And you were afraid to leave him because he could track you down..?"
"yeah...he manages to find me somehow," Sonic sighed, "I just wish he could leave me alone."
"I'll help you...I promise" Shadow smiled and held him close, "For now..sleep"
"Okay Shadow." Sonic yawned before snuggling close to Shadow's chest fur and falling into a deep sleep.
Shadow smiled and held him close.
Long hours has passed and the rough winds quietly died down as the sun began to wake up from its night slumber. The blue hedgehog gave out a yawn and stretched a little, despite the slight pain he felt, before sitting up and scratching his side.
Shadow looked at him, being a ghost meant he didn't have to sleep. He'd been petting the little wolf cub he had seen last time he was here.
Sonic smiled and watched the wolf pup nuzzle into Shadow's hand, enjoying the comfort it was receiving. The blue blur chuckled and tip-toed over to Shadow and placed his hands on his back.
"Morning sunshine!" he smiled.
Shadow jumped and looked back at him, laughing.
"Morning"
"I fell better than I did last night, still a bit hurt but better," Sonic smiled, "And you?"
"I've been spending time with the animals here. Turns out they can see me as much as you can" he said as he petted the baby panda near him.
"Animals are mysterious things you know," Sonic smiled, "Anyways, since you are here, what do you want to do?"
"Im going to help you get rid of that hedgehog" Shadow smiled.
"How are you going to do that?" Sonic asked curiously.
Shadow sighed and shook his head.
"I dunno yet..."
"Take your time," Sonic smiled, "Don't try to rush things eh?"
Shadow smiled and hugged him,
"You just want me around more. Sneaky Hog~"
"heheh maybe~" Sonic smiled.
Shadow smiled and laid back on the moss.
"I could stay here with you forever Shadow," Sonic smiled, "It's so peaceful and relaxing."
The ghost smiled and turned on his side to face him.
"And you still look handsome as always." Sonic smiled.
His smile faded as he sighed.
"To bad Im not breathing..."
"I know Shadow...I know it's hard...but at least we are toge--" Sonic stopped as he perked his ears, hearing a voice that made him tremble, "Sh-Shadow...it's Scourge...he's l-looking for me."
Shadow stood quickly and grabbed Sonic's hand leading him out the back way.
"WHERE ARE YOU BLUE!!?" the green hedgehog bellowed.
Sonic heard Scourge's yell--his legs felt like locking up in fear from hearing such anger and knowing what pain might come his way, but feeling Shadow's comfort kept him from nearly panicking on the spot.
"Hurry!" Shadow urged and pulled him out the back way quickly, hidding in some bushes with him.
Sonic stayed close to Shadow, keeping his shaking sill as he watched Scourge look around.
Shadow held him close as Scourge walked past, a whip in his hand.
"BLUE!"
Sonic stayed close to Shadow, hoping that Scourge wouldn't find him.
"If you DON'T come out here right now your punishment will be WAY WORSE!"
'M-Maybe I should go out there...m-maybe...' Sonic began to think unclearly.
Scourge grabbed one of the little animals on the ground and squeezed it abit.
"Pathetic how he used to care for these little pests" he muttered as he dropped the little baby rabbit and walked off.
Sonic growled slightly, folding his ears.
The second Scourge was gone Shadow ran out to check on the rabbit.
Sonic stayed quiet and watched Shadow.
The ghost hovered over and gently picked up the rabbit, glancing back at Sonic.
"I-Is it..." Sonci questioned.
"Its okay" Shadow sighed as he stroked the rabbit that was in obvious pain.
"Oh thank Mobius..." Sonic carefully went over to Shadow, "Poor thing."
Shadow's ears drooped as he felt all of the rabbits broken ribs.
"We can't help it..."
Sonic lowered ears, "That...Scourge!!"
The rabbit twitched its nose and kicked its back legs abit in pain.
"Sonic...their your animals...Do I have permission to...to...?" Shadow's ears drooped a little as he motioned to put the rabbit out of its misery.
"I-I don't want the rabbit to be in anymore pain, do what u have to do Shadow." Sonic answered.
Shadow nodded sadly. Gently he took the rabbits head in his hand and gently held its body. In a swift motion he broke its neck, killing it painlessly as its spirit slowly rose out and faded away with a golden glow.
Sonic felt a bit faint from watching that scene, but she shook his head and tried to keep himself together, "Well, at least it's in a better place."
Shadow nodded again silently as he held the rabbit with one hand and dug a small hole with his other. To anyone else who saw it they would have seen a floating dead rabbit and a hole being dug by itself.
Sonic watched Shadow gently place the rabbit into the dug hole and cover the the dirt on top--the blue blur kneeled down and placed some flowers he found onto the rabbit's grave.
Shadow smiled a little and put an arm around him as thunder clapped in the sky.
"Is my place still standing?"
"Your place?" Sonic asked confused.
"My house" He chuckled, "Oh yeah! You haven't seen it yet"
"OH, where is your place?" Sonic asked.
"Out among the forest. I hope I can find it" Shadow said as he held Sonic's hand and flew up much to Sonic's panicked cries.
Sonic tried to cling onto Shadow, "W-We're too h-high up! Wh-what if I fall?!"
"Your not going to fall" The ghost smiled and pulled him up against his chest, "At least this is ONE advantage of being a ghost"
Sonic blushed and laid his head onto Shadow's chest--purring from the confort of being in his lover's arms and the softness of his fluffy white chest fur.
"I trust you." the blue hero said.
Shadow smiled and tilted his head into him in a hug as he glided forward quietly.
"I love you so much Sonic...I missed you..." he muttered quietly, his face hidden against Sonic's head.
"I loved you too Shads," Sonic said softly, "And I missed you dearly...every minute of every day, I kept thinking of you."
A small, transparent tear slid off the ghosts face and faded into mist as it landed on Sonic's hand.
Sonic looked at his hand, before looking up at Shadow. "Shadow...maybe...I can be with you...I could go jump of a cliff or something? I could join you in the after life."
"No..no..I want to see you full of life" Shadow smiled a little and put his forehead against Sonic's, "I want to be able to get lost in your emerald eyes"
"Shadow, don't you worry, I know we will be together soon," Sonic smiled, "I guarantee it."
A small smile crossed the ghosts face as his golden eyes dimmed a little.
"You sound so sure, Faker..."
"Let's just say I have a hunch," Sonic grinned, "So, we at your house yet?"
Shadow pointed down to a log cabin that slightly poked out amongst the trees of the forest.
"Whoa! Cool!" Sonic said looking upon the structure.
The ghost smiled and flew down, landing swiftly on the ground as he let Sonic walk.
"Well this is it"
"Seems pretty cool so far," Sonic said as he opened the door and walked in, "Whoa."
"I remember it took me 2 months to make all this furnature" he chuckled.
"Wow, you sure know how to work hard to make a place look good." Sonic said as he looked around.
Everything was made of wood, from the chairs to the bowls that held, now rotted, fruit.
"Ugh...maybe these can go..." Sonic groaned in disgust as he threw away the fruit.
Shadow chuckled and nodded in agreement.
"Your welcome to stay here as long as you need to. I obviously don't need it anymore"
"Thanks Shads," Sonic smiled, "You are really sweet, you know that?"
The ghost smiled a little and sat down in a chair but fell right through it with a chuckle.
Sonic chuckles, "Ermm...maybe u need a ghost chair?"
"Hehe. Ghost chair" Shadow chuckled and got out of the chair, "Strange how I can touch some things but not others"
"Maybe it requires concentration?" Sonic asked.
"Good thinking...maybe that it" Shadow looked around and saw a glass cup on the table. He walked over and tried to grab it but when he got it a few centimeters in the air it dropped from his grip.
Sonic quickly caught the glass cup before it hit the floor, "phew..."
Shadow sighed as he grumbled a curse, floating on his back above the table. He turned so he was stomach down, looking at Sonic.
"Its no use...I can't do it"
"Hey, don't give up Shads," Sonic smiled, "You will get it."
"Easy for YOU to say..." he sighed, "I can't even hold the cup for more then 6 seconds..."
"Maybe I can hold it for you?" Sonic asked.
"Thats not the point..." Shadow muttered as he looked down, "Its only another reminder that...that im..."
Sonic immediately went up to him and hugged him, soothing him by rubbing his back,"Don't feel so down."
Shadow hugged him back, coming down from floating above the table.
Sonic smiled and wagged his tail.
That night
Shadow watched as Sonic lit the fire in the fireplace.
"Careful"
"Hey, careful is my middle name." Sonic grinned.
"Mmhmm..your gloves on fire" Shadow smirked.
"Huh?" Sonic looked at his glove and yelped as he ran in circles a bit before heading to the sink, turning on the faucet, and running his hand in the water, "Ahhh~ Much better."
Shadow chuckled and looked at Sonic upside down, his feet on the ceiling.
"Careful is your middle name, huh?"
Sonic blushed lightly in embarrassment, "I-I never said I was self-aware."
The ghost smiled and gently kissed him on the lips.
"Come on. Come sit by the fire" he smiled more and took Sonic's hand, "The snowstorm is getting rough"
"Yeah, It's the coldest I've ever been," Sonic said as he sat down with Shadow and snuggled him, "I'm just glad your here to keep me warm."
Shadow kept his arms wrapped around him, cradling him against his transparent body. His ears twitched, hearing Sonic's stomach growl. His ears slowly drooping since they had no food.
"Heh...ermm...I think we have a situation," Sonic said, "Maybe I could go out and get some food."
"No...its to cold. I won't allow it...Well I can touch living creatures so maybe I can grab some meat and bring it back for you" Shadow said as he wrapped an arm around Sonic.
"Okay, but be careful." Sonic smiled as he kissed his cheek.
"Heh. Your talking to a ghost" he chuckled and kissed Sonic's cheek back as he stood and walked outside, "Just stay inside, okay?"
"Okay, I'll stay warm." Sonic smiled.
Shadow smiled and shut the door behind him, flying off into the forest.
Sonic stretched as he grabbed a pillow and rested his head on it, staring out the window, watching the snow fall.
His eyes caught on a little crow huddled up at the side of the window frame.
Sonic stared at the crow a bit, eying it curiously, "Wh-what the....a bird..."
It was shivering as he tucked its head under its wing.
Sonic carefully opened the window and gently grabbed the bird, taking it inside the warm home and closing the window shut. "Hey there little guy." he said softly.
The bird flailed a little but quickly relaxed, exhausted.
"You poor thing, you must've been shivering out in that nasty cold weather," Sonic said, gently placing it on a soft pillow as he checked for any injuries.
It looked at him curiously, a curious look that was unusual to a bird. When Sonic lifted its wing it flinched a little and flailed again, quickly exhausting itself.
"Easy there, I just want to help fix that wing of yours." Sonic said softly as he carefully tended to the wound.
It relaxed slowly as it gave a small 'caw' and nuzzled its torso feathers to get rid of the ice from them.
Sonic took a small rag and placed some warm water on it as he gently cleaned its feathers.
The crow flinched from the warmth but relaxed and nuzzled his hand.
"There we go," Sonic smiled, "Are you you a handsome fella--" he jumped a bit when it squawked at him, "Oh I mean aren't you a pretty girl."
The crow nuzzled his hand approvingly and looked around with the cute, curious look again.
"heh...well this is Shadow's place--pretty cool huh?" Sonic grinned.
She cawed and stood on the head of the chair, ruffling her feathers as she preened herself cutely.
"Aww...you are such a doll." Sonic smiled.
She plucked one of her wing feathers off and went up to Sonic, climbing onto his hand and then up to his shoulder, putting the feather just behind Sonic's ear so it was stuck in his quills.
"Aww you are very welcome." Sonic smiles as he petted her feathers.
Shadow soon came back with the meat, holding the dead chicken by the legs.
"I forgot about the farm that was close by. Lucky, right?"
Sonic was paying so much attention to the crow that he didn't even hear Shadow speak or come into the house, "Aww who is a pretty girl?"
The crow nuzzled his hand as she flapped her wings. She heard Shadow as she turned her head back, freaking out when she saw the dead chicken. Quickly she made a dash for the closed window and smashed into it.
Sonic yelped and quickly grabbed her--he could feel the bird struggling in his grip, but he rubbed her feathers, trying to calm the crow down. "Easy! Calm down! Everything is all right," Sonic said, "I promise nothing will hurt you...I won't hurt you okay?"
Her little beat pumped in her chest as she looked at Sonic, slowly calming down as she tried not to look at the dead chicken.
"I know that was a horrible sight to see," Sonic said, petting her feathers, as he made a small nest out of a soft blanket and a pillow.
Shadow took the chicken to the kitchen and out of sight of the distressed crow.
Sonic smiled and got a piece of bread and some water and placed it near the crow, "Hmm...you need a name."
"Got a new friend, huh?" Shadow knelt down to the bird who was pecking at the bread hungrily.
"Yeah, I found her shivering outside the window," Sonic replied, "I couldn't just let her freeze. So I brought her in and took care of her."
Shadow smiled and gently stroked the crows head.
"They can see ghosts too you know. Ever wonder why their mostly around near the cemeteries?"
"I guess they can sense spirits? But how?" Sonic asked.
"Their eyes. If you look really closely you'll see a flicker of light in her pupil" he smiled as the crow tilted her head abit, looking at Sonic.
"A flicker of light?" Sonic said, staring into the crow's eyes.
Right in the middle of the crows eye was a bright glint that you had to look deeply to see.
"Wow...that is so amazing." Sonic said.
"Beautiful misunderstood creatures, crows are" Shadow gently petted her and smiled, "I think Serenity is a good name for you"
"That is a lovely name Shadow." Sonic smiled.
Serenity, now with her new name, nuzzled into the nest Sonic had made.
"You get some rest serenity, I'm going go fill my tummy up." Sonic smiled as he headed into the kitchen.
Shadow floated beside him to the kitchen.
"Does the oven still work?"
"I'm checking..." Sonic said as he began to tinker with it, "Yep, amazingly it is.."
"Hmm..well in that case lets de-head this chicken and pluck it so we can cook it" Shadow said as he looked around for a knife.
"Yeah, just don't show it in front of Serenity please," Sonci said, "I don't want her freaking out again."
He nodded and found a knife, somehow able to grip the handle as he went to work.
"Why don't you stay warm by the fire. This'll only take a second to do"
"Okay love," Sonic smiled as he headed back to the fireplace and sat in a chair.
Serenity grabbed the blanket from her makeshift nest and flew over, dropping the blanket over Sonic's lap.
Sonic smiled and petted her head, "Thanks Serenity."
She nuzzled his hand and got into his lap, ruffling her feathers.
"Yeah, it's nice and warm near the fireplace huh?" Sonic smiled.
Serenity flapped her wings cutely in response, nuzzling into him as she folded her wings back again.
Sonic chuckled, "Glad to see your happy."
The crow slowly closed her eyes, falling asleep against the hedgehog.
Sonic smiled and gently rubbed her feathers as he stared up the ceiling, slowly drifting into a slumber himself.
After a while Sonic's nose twitched to the smell of freshly cooked chicken.
Sonic licked his lips, drooling slightly as he continued to sniff the air.
The chicken was on the bench near the oven, beautifully cooked and ready to eat.
Sonic drooled and licked his lips, eager to eat.
Shadow smiled as he floated over him, tapping his nose to wake him up.
"Foods ready"
"Smells delicious Shadow," Sonic smiled as he opened his eyes, "Who taught ya to cook so well?"
"Well...after a few years of not even remembering your past you feel the need to learn a few things" he smiled and helped him up, "Love for instance. Knew nothing about it" he leaned in as their noses touched, "Until I met you"
"Awww...Shadow," Sonic smiled as he kissed him, "You are so sweet."
"I know. I know" he smiled and helped him up, careful not to wake the sleeping crow, "Come on. Before it gets cold"
Sonic nodded and headed over to the kitchen and sat himself down in the chair as he sniffed the food once more before taking a bite.
Shadow hovered over him upside down as he smiled.
"Taste good?"
"Not good...delicious!" Sonic smiled, "This is the best food I've ever tasted in my entire life...even better than chilidogs!"
"Whoa! Even better then that!" Shadow chuckled and laid on the table silently, "Must be good then.
"Yeah, you should teach me your skills." Sonic smiled.
"My skills cannot be mastered by meer mortals" he laughed softly.
"But I'm not meer mortal, I'm your love and forever" Sonic grinned.
"Eternal love...Mmmm...I like the sound of that" Shadow smiled and flew off the table to let Sonic eat.
Sonic smiled and continued to eat his food till it was all gone--he rubbed his full tummy an gave out a satisfied belch.
"Charming" Shadow chuckled quietly and looked at the door quickly as a pounding came from it, "Oh no..."
Sonic perked his ears and quickly grabbed the crow and gently placed her in a hiding spot in the balcony of the cabin, "Wh-What is it Shadow?"
"I know your in there!" Scourge's voice sounded as Shadow gave Sonic back the crow.
"We have to get out of here, Now!" the ghost shouted and grabbed Sonic's arm, leading him out the back.
Sonic nodded and tried to keep up with Shadow as much as he could, gently holding the crow close to his chest.
Serenity woke up quickly the second it got cold from the snow. She looked around in confusion and then at Sonic.
"We need to go to a new home for now Serenity," Sonic said, "We're...kinda being followed."
She cawed softly and nuzzled his hand comfortingly, seeing how stressed Sonic was.
"Thanks Serenity." Sonic smiled.
She nuzzled into him as Shadow kept pulling Sonic through the snow that coated the full moon thickly.
Sonic began to shiver as he felt the cold air get to him, he was slowing down a bit despite Shadow's face pace. "Sh-Shadow...s-slow...d-down.." he sneezed.
Shadow looked at him quickly and noticed how pale and cold he was. He quickly took him to a hollow tree and got him in.
Sonic sneezed two times, before curling up a bit and shivering--he never felt so cold before, he was desperate on finding something warm.
Shadow despretly flew around in search of soemthing warm for him. ANYTHING! But what he found made him freeze. Scourge was by the hollow tree with his whip.
"Sonic! Run!"
Sonic groaned as got up and tried to get out of the tree, but yelped and felt Scourge's hand yank him out and threw him hard to the floor. Sonic tried to scramble up to his feet, only to scream out as he felt a hard lash on his back.
"No!!" Shadow flew forward quickly and tried to grab Scourge but his hands somehow went through him, "No! No no no!!" he watched helplessly as Scourge brought down the whipe for the 5th time, cropping Sonic across the face harshly.
Sonic whined softly, struggling to get up, but fell back down on the ground, too much in pain. "P-Please...st-stop..." he begged.
"Beg! Thats all you ever did! I let you into my home and you DISRESPECT me!" the green hedgehog shouted and brought the whipe down again across his stomach.
Serenity struggled to fly up to help but cawed helplessly when she found her wings frozen.
"P-Please...wh-what...c-can I...d-do to make you st-stop..." Sonic groaned in pain.
"You had your chance!" Scourge snarled and brought the whip down again as it cut deeply across another lash on his back.
Lash after lash, blood began to seep down Sonic's back as he saw his vision blur a bit--he felt like he had to escape...he couldn't let it end like this, he began to struggle onto his feet
"N-No...I-I won't...l-let you...hurt me anymore..." he groaned.
Scourge gasped when Sonic yanked the whip from his grip and lassoed it around his throat, yanking as it choked him. The green hedgehog gripped it as he struggled, giving small cries for him to let go.
"No...you gave me so much pain, so much grief and misery, it would be pleasing to see you die by my hands," Sonic growled.
A dark aura was surrounded the blue hero as his emerald eyes was slowly turning a tint of red--Shadow instantly went over and tried to snap him out of it...he knew Sonic would never do this.
Slowly Scourge fell to his knees, his muzzle pale as he gasped for air despretly through the choking whip around his throat.
"Sonic! Stop it! This isn't you! I know he's done wrong but this ISN'T YOU!" Shadow cried and pulled on his arm to make him let go.
Sonic snarled and looked straight into Shadow's eyes, "He's put so much pain in my life!! He deserves this, doesn't he?!"
"Does anyone deserve this...?"
Sonic looked at Scourge--seeing him squirm and in pain, it remind him of himself. The blue blur lowered his ears as he looked down at the snow, he didn't want to be a killer or a murder...he wasn't made to do such things nor was it right to do it. Sonic's fur turned back to his blue color and his eyes shimmered a glorious emerald color as he let Scourge go.
Scourge ripped the whip off from around his throat as he gasped heavily.
"Y-You little..GRAH!" he went to grab Sonic but Shadow scooped up the blue hedgehog and flew off quickly, Serenity in Sonic's lap as she nuzzled next to one of Sonic's bleeding wounds worriedly.
"Heh...I-I'll be okay," Sonic winced, "I-It's just a small scratch."
The gail beat against them roughly as even Shadow's flight pattern faultered.
The sheer winter cold's wind rubbing against his bleeding wound wasn't make him the least bit better...in fact, it was making him very ill. Sonic began to cough and sneeze a bit as he looked at his lover. "Y-You all right Shads?" he groaned.
"This wind is horrible!" The ghost grunted as he looked around for shelter.
"Y-yeah....it is h-horrible..." Sonic shivered.
"Just keep talking to me, Sonic. Okay! Keep talking!"
"You really love m-my...voice that much," Sonic coughed, "Th-That's sweet of you Shads."
Shadow smiled sadly and held him closer.
"Just keep talking...keep talking to me..."
Serenity cawed as she nuzzled Sonic's cold cheek.
"Thanks Serenity," Sonic coughed, "H-How is your wing?"
She opened her wings a little to show it was all better.
"Th-That's good..." Sonic smiled as his eyes drooped a bit, "I'm so...sleepy..."
Shadow shook him abit as he ran to the graveyard, remembering the hollow tree there. He ran flew inside it quickly and set Sonic down.
"Stay awake!"
"I-I'm trying," Sonic coughed, "Where are w-we?"
"S-somewhere safe..." Shadow sighed and hugged him close. He looked into his eyes, wanting to remember the green glow that came from them.
"You okay Shads?" Sonic asked, "I-I never seen....you this sad before."
"J..Just keep looking at me..." his ears drooped, cradling Sonic's head in his transparent hands.
Sonic smiled as he looked outside and at the snow--watching the snowflakes fall so peacefully. "You know...nature is always so beautiful," he said, "it's always g-growing...a never-ending cycle."
Serenity nuzzled Sonic's head and the hedgehog could have sworn a tear ran down her face.
Sonic looked at Serenity and gently petted her head, "Hey girl, you always know how to cheer me up."
Shadow teared up as he bowed his head, Sonic's heart slowing down slowly.
Sonic gripped his chest a bit, "I wonder...will my friends worry about...m-me."
"Of course they'll worry..." Shadow replied sadly and held him closer, "just keep looking at me, okay? Sonic? Can you hear me?"
"Barely..." Sonic replied.
Shadows tears slowly dripped down his muzzle and turned to mist when they touched Sonic's arm.
"Im so sorry I couldn't protect you..!"
"You did as much as you...c-could Shadow," Sonic said, as his breathing got ragged, "You tried your b-best...don't think you failed me..."
Shadow gently hugged him, resting the blue blurrs head against his chest. Serenity nuzzled Sonic's hand that was cold and numb.
"Serenity, d-don't think that I'll be gone...I-I'll come and see...you I promise..." Sonic smiled weakly before looking back at he sky, "Heh...I always I said my adventures won't stop...as l-long as I run," the blue blur gripped his chest, "But I guess...my a-adventures are finally...c-coming to an...e...nd..."
Shadow watched his loves eyes slowly dull in colour, the energetic green turning into a dead, emotionless lime.He ran a gentle hand over his eyes and closed them as he stood, holding his body as he walked out into the, now calm, snow.
Serenity glided behind him silently as Shadow walked to his grave and gently laid him down. He walked to the shovel Sonic had left behind when he buried him...
'Maybe it requires concentration?' Sonic's words rang in his head as he held the shovel and slowly lifted his hands. He smiled a little when the shovel lifted. He went to beside his grave and started digging. Once the hole was deep enough he threw the shovel to the side and gently placed Sonic's body in it, gently covering him with the soft soil.
"Come on...wake up..." he smiled sadly and patted the dirt gently.
A long sound of an eerie silence echoed throughout the graveyard--Shadow began to worry that Sonic might never wake up. He began to think that something went wrong, he kneeled down to the grave, gently placing his hand upon the dirt when his fur stood up in surprise as he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey Shads, why the long face?" a familiar voice said, "You really need to cheer up."
Shadow smiled widely and turned around to face the hero. Like himself, Sonic's eyes were glowing gold as well. Shadow stood up and hugged him quickly.
"I kept my promise," Sonic smiled, "I said I would be with you forever--and well, I guess now we offically are."
A warm glow formed in front of them as Shadow smiled.
"Maria..."
Sonic smiled and watched the two share a joyful hug when his ears perked up to hear very familiar voices.
"You came a long way son..."
Sonic turned around and tears instantly dripped down his face as he saw his parents looking at him with smiles on their faces.
"M-Mom...Dad!" Sonic sniffled as he ran over and hugged them close.
"My baby boy...I missed you so much..." his mother smiled, petting Sonic's head gently.
Serenity stood near Sonic's grave, looking at him sadly as she cawed softly.
"Serenity," Sonic said as he floated to her and gently petted her feathers, "I wish you could be here with us...I know you would like me and possibly Shadow to be alive and spending time with you, right?"
She nuzzled against his hand as another tear slowly went down her face and dripped off her beak. She cawed sadly and gently plucked another feather, giving it to him.
Sonic placed the feather next to his ear and hugged her close, "Serenity, please don't cry--I know that when your time does come, we will be together forever, just like Shadow and I are now. But until then I promise I will always be by your side, right Shadow?"
Shadow smiled and nodded as he flew over and knelt down.
"Thats right. We'll always be here" he smiled and put his hand on Serenity's chest gently, "Right here"
The crow nuzzled his hand and watched the group back up towards the light, she raised a wing as if waving to them and seemed to smile.
Shadow gently took Sonic's hand.
"Ready?"
"I-I'm kinda nervous, but I know, that with you by my side I have nothing to fear," Sonic smiled as he nuzzled Shadow, "I'm ready."
The dark hedgehog gently squeezed his hand reasurringly and smiles more as he walked in with Sonic, a soft humming noise sounding as they walked in, Maria and Sonic's parents following as the light slowly closed over.
Serenity perched on Sonic's tombstone that had his name on it. She looked down but smiled a little, hovering her left foot over her chest as she remembered what they had both said. She cawed happily and flew off, making sure to remember to visit there every day.
Until the day she died.
The end
