It was a morning that showed hope for one particular hedgehog. He had slept in again, but it didn't matter to him. Mornings were not his style, Sonic the hedgehog was more of a night Mobian. He had stayed out until midnight, that night, with a certain someone. That hedgehog ran through his head all night, and last night was no different. As Sonic's eyes parted open, the memories crashed back into his head. Shadow, he had almost told Shadow he loved him. Something held him back though, he couldn't remember what it was.

"Mph." His bedroom finally became clear to his vision. It was then that Sonic realized that his head was down where his feet normally were, and vise versa. His light purple blanket covered most of his head and body. Golden rings covered the purple blanket for the perfect design. Guilt was coursing through the young hedgehogs body as he slowly sat up.

As he began to yawn, Sonic remembered how content Shadow's face was last night, when it was just Shadow and him. They had shared a calming evening together at the cliffside of greenhill, overlooking the ocean that crashed on the shoreline below them. It made a blush appear over his face as he lifted his hand over his mouth while he yawned. His special blanket covered his head quills, keeping him warm. The sunlight peered through his window kissing his fur with its warmth to welcome Sonic into the new day.

Sonic was still surprised that Shadow had accepted to spend time with him, but lately they were growing further and further away from the term 'enemy'. They acted in a more civilized way with each other, and that Sonic seemed to enjoy much more. Shadow seemed to feel the same towards the current situation, but Sonic couldn't be sure. He never knew what ran through Shadows head.

"Why can't I just tell him? He would understand... wouldn't he?" The blue hero asked himself lightly, wiping morning tears away from his tired eyes. So many thoughts troubled the hedgehog, but a small smile brightened his features anyways. It was as if Shadow was sitting right next to the distraught hedgehog, because his heart was pounding in his chest.

Sonic looked around his room. He tried to find something to ease his mind, but there was nothing. Everything inside the room was just ordinary items that could never soothe a broken soul. Then his eye caught something across the room. Something that could connect the two hedgehogs together.

"The phone..." He exclaimed, staring at the phone intently. If I could just hear his voice again. Sonic thought as he got up slowly, almost mechanically, as his mind was eager to pick up the small device.

Once he was on his feet, Sonic stumbled across the room. His legs wanted him to go anywhere but near the phone. His mind on the other hand fought his legs and pushed his body forward, until his hand was firmly grasping the cordless home phone. He could hear his pulse in his ears. Sonic had never been so nervous in his life to talk to anyone.

"You can... do this." His breath came out in shaky wave lengths. Sonic would have loved to say that by telling Shadow his feelings the darker one would just fall into his arms, but he had no idea if that would be the case. The fur on his body began to stand on end as his hand gripped the phone. He knew Shadows number by heart, it was the only number he had memorized but never called.

His hand was damp from sweat. He could feel his legs shaking in anticipation and nervousness. He knew this could either go terribly good, or terribly bad. Either way, his thumb was currently typing Shadows phone number in, and Sonic was going to have to say something.

Ring...ring...ring...

It rang once, twice, and again for a third time. With each ring, Sonics heart pounded faster in his chest. It was like a punch from the inside of his chest. The anxiety was kicking in with full force. He wondered if he remembered the number right, if Shadow would even pick up, if he would wake Shadow up from a deep slumber, or if he just wouldn't pick up at all. It killed Sonic to sit and wait. He bit his lower lip lightly as another ring sounded through his ear. It was now or never, and Sonic knew that.

Then, a familiar deep husky voice came through the plastic device. It made the heroic hedgehog nearly lose all track of time and space.

"Hello?"
