My Child [The Prologue]

"Mommy, look! It's an Android!" A small kid said happily, bouncing on their toes. The small pipsqueak was pointing at a human being with a round circle on the right temple in smooth clothing. A young woman next to the kid smiled as she let out a small giggle.

"That's right, Corey!" She said, "Oh, Corey, don't point, that's rude." The little kid nodded and stopped pointing, grabbing onto the young woman's hand. "Mom, why do we have Androids?"

"They exist because humans have evolved, meaning we started from the bottom, but now we here. Androids serve as our helpers." The mother answered the question as simplistic as she could. Corey lit up in curiosity, then in excitement.

"I wanna be an Android when I grow up!" Corey chirped. The mother chuckled at her child's innocence, then started to grin. "But you're already my little helper, Corey." She said as she swept her child of his feet, spinning around with him in her arms.

"Mom, stop! I'm getting dizzy!" The mom laughed, slowing down her spinning. She then started to run, the little boy still in her arms. "Mooom, put me down!" The two started to laugh, as they made it to their destination.

"Let's play now, Corey. We have to get back to Daddy soon." Corey nodded and ran off to play on the sandbox. The mom, with a smile, sat down at a bench and took a breather. She looked at her phone and clicked on her emails, a frown starting to show. Her request for a break has been denied.

With a sigh, she placed the phone on her lap, just to feel it vibrate. She decided to take a look at it, and she smiled. It was a call from someone who she just needed right now. She swiped her finger from left to right and placed it against her ear.

"Hey, honey... No, it got denied... I know I said I could take a break, but they're telling me that I can't cause I haven't been in the job long enough. We have to cancel... I'll be back and cook dinner soon... love you too." And with the short call over, she heard the other side hang up. It's about time Corey got home anyways. Time passes by like an arrow, especially when you and your little six years old are having fun.

"Coco, I'm sorry, but it's time to go home," She called out for her son, pulling herself up to her feet as she stretched. Instead of a little boy running up and complaining about not being there for long, there was only silence. "Corey?" The mom called out for her son once more, started to search for him.

"Corey, this isn't funny, please come out," She reached the last area her son was at, just to see that the sandbox was empty. Now it was the time to panic. "Corey, where are you!?" The mom called out, starting to run around. "COREY!?" She started to feel her heart beat faster and faster as she looked around in a panic, her eyes starting to tear up. She unlocked her phone real quick and dial a familiar number, this time putting her phone on speaker so she can continue talking as she searched.

"This better be important, Didi. I have work to do." A male voice said on the other side. The mother is in tears, trying her best not to sob and keep her composure. The man on the other side sounded surprised.

"Jeffrey, my child is missing, you bet your ass this is important."

"Jeffrey, what do you MEAN you can't find him? It's been two weeks, damn it!" Didi asked as she slammed her hands on the desk in anger.

"Didi, it's exactly what we mean, we can't find him," Jeffrey said calmly.

"Jeffrey, you're seriously telling me that no progress on my son has been made in the last two weeks? Even when he's been placed in the NCIC system? I want to know where my son is, Fowler." Didi was a complete mess, bags visibly underneath her puffy red glossy eyes, her hair messy and her lips dry. She's been searching non-stop since the disappearance of her son, barely remembering to take care of herself as she searched.

"You may not even know. I'm closing the case soon." Didi just about lost it.

"Fowler, this is not a murder mystery. This is a missing child, MY missing child, who can be in grave danger. It's only been two weeks, this case needs more time--"

"That is enough, Lieutenant Enrique." Didi ceased her talking as it was Jeffery's turn to talk.

"Didi, I've been searching non-stop, having officers go on overtime to help you. This can't go on. By the end of the month, this case will be closed. Understood?"

"... Perfectly, sir." Didi's usually sweet and energetic voice dripped with venom. Didi walked scaringly calm towards the door, pausing moments before her hand reached the handle. She didn't face her superior as she talked. "Jeffery, do you know why I decided to become a detective?" Jeffery remained silent since he was never told the reason.

"It was so I could help others, and protect my family. Some detective I am." She turned her head, having one eye look at the Captain for the last time that day, turned away, and grabbed the handle.

The door slammed closed as she left.
