Chapter 3
Ragna grimaced. He did not want to face a goddess. Even on his best day, he could not hope to defeat one. Wound one? Perhaps. But defeat one? Yeah no.
"As much as I would love to stay and chat," Ragna started. "I must be going. I'll see you soon Perseus Emiya."
Ragna then walked away from them, getting Percy to relax somewhat. Before he turned to Artemis and asked, "Who the hell are you?"
"Mind your tongue Perseus," Sally said chastising her adopted son. "Lady Artemis, please do not harm my son. He hasn't fully learned of the mythological world as of this moment. I was planning on telling him on his 16th birthday, which coincidentally is tomorrow."
Percy just looked at them in confusion.
"What are you talking about mom?" he asked.
Sally sighed.
"You see Percy, you are a Demigod," the mortal woman told him. "Your father fell in love with a goddess and she conceived you. 9 months later, you were born."
"Okay," Percy said with a nod. "Anything else?"
"This is Lady Artemis, the goddess of the Hunt and Archery," Annabeth informed him motioning towards the goddess who appeared to be in her late 30s her eyes were silvery-yellow and her hair auburn. "And my patron."
Percy made the swords vanish, before crossing his arms.
"Cool," he said. "But I'm still confused here. Why is a man-hating goddess here? Not to mention one that took an oath to be a maiden for the rest of eternity."
His eyes narrowed.
"So why would she save a male's life?" he asked.
"Because I know your mother well, Perseus," Artemis stated. "She asked me to keep you safe until she claimed you. And that is exactly what I've been doing the last 16 years Perseus."
"Who is my mother?" he asked.
"That is something that I can't disclose at the moment," Artemis told him. "But I promise that your mother will claim you when you get to Camp Half-Blood."
Percy sighed.
"Fine," he said. "I'll go to this camp tomorrow. Maybe I can get new weapons..." He muttered the last part but Sally heard him and hit the back of his head.
"Stop thinking about getting new weapons to summon," Sally told him, shaking her head at her son.
Artemis and Annabeth looked confused. And seeing this Percy said, "Whenever I look at a sword, dagger, or any other bladed weapon, I know it's entire history. It's downloaded into my head like a computer file and I never forget it."
"Can you give us an example?" Artemis asked.
"Sure," Percy replied with a shrug. "But not here. I think that my fight with Ragna Chulainn may have alerted the authorities. We can talk about it at the apartment."
The three women nodded in agreement and Artemis said, "I'll take you to your apartment."
"Thank you, my lady," Sally replied.
Percy just nodded in thanks, before his eyes started scanning the park for any new enemies.
'What is this feeling?' he thought to himself. 'It's like a warning signal... But for what?'
"Trace... on," Percy said as a bow appeared in his hands and he notched an arrow on the bowstring. "Move. Now!"
Annabeth ducked and rolled just as a hellhound jumped out of the treeline and was killed by Percy when he released the taut bowstring.
"We should really get out of here now," he insisted. "I for one don't want to be attacked for the third time tonight."
"Agreed," Annabeth replied. With Sally nodding in agreement.
Artemis then went into her true form, and with the three mortal humans looking away as to not be turned into ashes.
When Percy, Annabeth, and Sally opened their eyes, they found themselves in the Jackson Family Apartment.
Annabeth turned to Percy and demanded, "Now what is the deal with your powers? No Demigod has powers like that! Is it because of your father? Or your mother?"
"Neither," Sally answered for him.
"What do you mean?" Artemis asked. She knew that Percy didn't inherit his powers, at least concerning summoning swords, from her.
Sally looked at Percy.
"I woke up on my 14th birthday and when I was surprised by my mom here, I summoned the married swords Kanshou and Bakuya," Percy informed them while summoning them as well the black and white swords that he used against Ragna not even an hour ago appeared in his hands. "As for where I got the power to summon these weapons? I have no idea."
"Can you do anything else with this power?" Artemis asked.
Percy nodded and summoned Gae Bolg the Crimson Red Spear that Ragna used.
"Right before the fight, I scanned his weapon," Percy told them. "I knew his name and his entire history. And that was just from a glance at his weapon. But I feel like I've already seen this weapon..."
Percy frowned.
"I've also copied weapons from the museum nearby," Percy told them. "I knew every ounce of history the moment I saw the ancient swords and spears." He shook his head. "I never knew that there was so much to human history until that day at the museum. Not to mention, I could summon the weapons I saw after that day."
Artemis frowned in thought. She knew that his father didn't have this power, as it seems something that a child of Hephaestus would be able to do, but something seems a bit off here... The magical energy, the mana, that her son is giving off. It is too high. One that only Hecate's children give off, or even Isis, Hecate's Egyptian counterpart, children.
Artemis sighed and turned to Sally before giving the mortal an "I-need-to-talk-to-you" look.
"Percy, why don't you show Annabeth to her room," Sally suggested. "I'll get dinner started."
Percy nodded and motioned for Annabeth to follow him. Sally then turned to Artemis.
"Do you have an idea as to his special ability?" Sally asked her old friend.
Artemis shook her head.
"I do not," Artemis replied. "But his mana... It is too high. A normal Demigod is able to strengthen his or her body due to the mana they possess. But he is something else. As is Ragna Chulainn. They were able to show a visible aura made entirely of mana. Only one other mortal has been able to visibly show an aura made of mana. And they went missing thousands of years ago."
"Who?" asked Sally.
"Medea," Artemis replied, her silvery-yellow eyes hardening. "She was powerful. Powerful enough to strip away any and all enchantments that were on a Temple or even a person."
"Any enchantments?" Sally asked, almost pleadingly.
Artemis looked at her old friend.
"Yes," Artemis replied. "Any enchantments. I know what you are thinking Sally. And Medea won't help you. Whatever you want will come at a price."
Sally sighed. The mortal woman knew this, but she still wanted the curse that Aphrodite placed on her all those years ago to be gone.
"I want to fall in love, Artemis," Sally told the goddess. "But this curse of Aphrodite's... All because I got more attention than she did... I hate it, Artemis."
Artemis looked at her friend sadly. When Sally was first introduced into the Greco-Roman pantheons, she turned more heads than even Aphrodite herself. So the goddess of love cursed the mortal to never fall in love. All because of jealousy. And to this day, a hundred years later, the curse has still not been lifted.
"Maybe Percy could help," Artemis suggested. "With his power, he might have copied a blade that would strip your curse from you."
Sally shook her head.
"I don't want him to become involved in this, Artemis," Sally told her. "He might be your son biologically, but I raised him. He is my son as much as he is yours."
Artemis sent her a smile.
"And I thank you for doing that," Artemis told her. "But it's time that he learns about his family. My family."
Sally nodded in agreement.
"I agree," she said. "I just want to continue being in his life."
"You will," Artemis told her. "I can promise you that much."
Not too long later, Percy walked back into the living room and asked, "What are we having for dinner, Mom?"
"Pizza," Sally replied. "I'm about to order it."
Percy smiled widely and said, "Alright. What were you two talking about?"
"Your future Percy," Sally told him before getting up and ordering the pizza.
This confused Percy and gave him a bad feeling. As if he knew what was going to happen and he didn't want it to happen.
