li. Bad Blood

"What?" Decimus breathed heavily. He shook his head in disbelief. "H-how would he know?" He took a step closer in Yakim's direction.

Yakim exhaled, slowly. "Well…" He slowed, burying his hands deep within the pockets of his leather jacket. "In Perseus's letter… The one meant for his confidant or whatever…" He paused. "...He brang up me… as Vbyvtsya of course-" He stopped.

Decimus stiffened a little, already seeming to know exactly what Yakim was going to say. "Uh oh."

Yakim clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, lightly. "He said he had some sort of hunch on who Vbyvtsya was… He said Vbyvtsya meant too much to him."

Decimus inhaled very quickly. "Yeah… He knows." He tilted his head in the direction of the door, beckoning to Yakim. "Come on," he called.

Yakim looked over to the letter for one last time before heading in the direction Decimus had pointed in, leaving the room.

Decimus followed in suit.

The two reached a lounge like area in the home—-Decimus's residence was in Akkialon, a place that Perseus wouldn't never think to look for Jasoslav and his alters.

Perseus wouldn't dare step foot in Akkialon—-he and Lucifer hadn't been there since their banishment thousands of years ago.

Decimus and Yakim came to a halt in the lounge, gaining the attention of Decimus's husband—-Yaotl Yayauhqui—-who had been relaxing with the two's four-year-old demon-archangel hybrid daughter, Acaxoch.

Yaotl looked up, looking over to Yakim. He noted Yakim's posture and the look on his face. "Yakim," the Aztec man greeted.

"How he can tell the difference between all of you is something I'll never know," Decimus whispered to himself, pushing air out of his lungs at the end of the sentence.

"You got the letter, I'm assuming…" Yaotl began, still holding Acaxoch upon his lap.

Yakim nodded. "Correct."

Decimus chipped in, "...and apparently… Perseus knows he's Vbyvtsya."

"Oh dear…" Yaotl began, adjusting the way he and Acaxoch sat. "What are you gonna do about it?"

Yakim shrugged. There's not much I can do, he thought to himself. "Try to make sure Perseus's suspicions are never confirmed." He sucked in a breath. "Throw him off…" His hands remained inside his jacket pockets. "...that sort of thing."

Yaotl exhaled, nodding a little, taking in the information—-he cataloged it within his mind. "Okay… So…." He wetted his lips. "I'll try to help however I can… If you so wish."

"Thanks, Yaotl," Yakim responded.

Decimus placed a comforting hand on Yakim's shoulder. "You already know that I'd do the same."

Yakim sucked in another breath. "There's something else though."

"What?" Decimus asked; Yaotl saying the same a second later.

Yakim shifted his weight onto the other leg. "The letter…" The monster hunter swallowed. "It was meant for some person… by the name of Marvin Greeley."

Yaotl looked over Decimus, some form of recognition in his eyes.

Decimus stiffened. "M-Marvin Greeley… You say?"

"Yeah. Him," Yakim began, looking over in Decimus's direction. "Do you know him?"

Yaotl stood, setting Acaxoch on the couch.

Acaxoch continued to doodle in the journal she had in hand.

Yaotl shifted back and forth, uneasy. "Yeah. We know him."

"We just didn't know he was working with Perseus," Decimus drawled. He sighed, exasperated.

"What did he do?" Yakim asked. "I've never heard of him before today… But clearly, based on your reactions, he did something…"

Yaotl exhaled, a saddened look in his eye. "Marvin aided the Spaniards back in the early 1500s…" He paused. "He-" Yaotl stopped.

Then it dawned on Yakim. He asked Yaotl, sympathetically, "He tore his way through Tenochtitlan? He slaughtered your people?"

Yaotl exhaled heavily. "Yeah." He looked at Decimus. "You wanna watch Acaxoch? …I need to step out for a moment."

Decimus nodded to his husband. He spoke softly. "Yeah. I can. Go on…"

Yaotl exchanged one last glance with Decimus before leaving the room.

"That must be hard for him…" Yakim began. "I can't imagine what it's like to lose everyone you know…"

"Yeah…" Decimus breathed.

Silence trickled into the room as Yakim stared at the ground.

Moments passed before a knock on the front door broke the silence.

"You wanna get that?" Decimus asked before he sat down beside his daughter.

Yakim nodded. "Yeah." He headed down the hallway before reaching the door. He took a deep breath and then opened the door.

There stood a young man with strawberry blonde hair and pink eyes. Freckles coated his face.

"Can I help you?" Yakim asked the man.

"I um…" the man swallowed. "I'm G-Gavin Ó Duibh… and I need to speak with Vbyvtsya urgently."

Yakim raised an eyebrow. "What's so important that you need to speak with Vbyvtsya?"

Gavin exhaled. "Vbyvtsya's in grave danger."
