Chapter 2:
THIS CHAPTER IS RATED M FOR LANGUAGE
Percy's POV:
If you ever get the option to be instantly teleported to Tartarus my advice is take it, especially if you have adhd.
No seriously do take it because when I return and this war is over I am going to personally throw Hesiod into the void for recording the fact that IT TAKES NINE FUCKING DAYS TO FALL FROM EARTH INTO TARTARUS. FUCK THAT GUY FOR BEING RIGHT. AND FUCK HIS SOUL TOO.
deep breaths Percy deep breaths
Shut it Perseus. You left me the moment we started the fall you knowing little shit.
My Roman self declined to reply or refused to acknowledge my existence. Either way fuck him too.
I mean have any of you been stuck with absolutely nothing to do for days with the only thing you can do being fall at terminal velocity praying that it just ends quicker. This is worse than being bedridden by Apollo's doctor's orders and I'm not even in the depths of hell yet.
"I love you two" I barely heard Annabeth say. Well at least there's one good thing about this stupid fall to Tartarus that is in fact necessary to defeat the earth primordial. I'm not alone. The bad part about that being it's my two girlfriends that are total bad asses that can take care of themselves, nonetheless I wouldn't wish anyone these tortures, not even Peter.
We fell for I don't know how much longer.
Time skip: it was 3 days 6 hours and 37 minutes
Finally something changed. The air wasn't as dark but it was harder to breath and smelled horribly of sulfur.
"Percy Thalia we're near the bottom" Annabeth shouted and I could feel the air change beneath us. Annabeth or Thalia started trying to use their powers to slow us. I quickly add my self into the mix using my powers to help slow us because going from terminal velocity to zero velocity equals splat. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out too.
The wind rushing past my ears from the nine day fall finally quietened and I'm surprised to report I miraculously have no hearing loss, I wonder if that's because of gramps blessing though.
"What is this stu...OWWWW MOTHER FUCKER FUCK THIS PLACE" Thalia yelled after she reached down and touched whatever we landed on shaking her hand. I noticed that it was bleeding too, so ground sharp too. Fuck you Hesiod for not noting that you fucking prick.
"Glass" Annabeth said looking at the ground cautiously.
"What river is this" Thalia asked, and for some reason I had the feeling she was going to stick her hand in it if she deemed the risk not that great.
Annabeth looked at the river and put on her thinking face, meanwhile I stretched out my powers and recognized the river.
"It's the Cocytus, the river of lamentation" I said
"Misery" Thalia stated like a question. "Fuck it"
Before Annabeth could react Thalia stuck her hand in the river and started cleaning it. Only for Annabeth to drag Thalia away from the river. "YOU IDIOT YOU COULD HAVE DIED" Annabeth shouted at Thalia and started ranting about everything Thalia just did that could have gone wrong.
After a ten minute rant from Annabeth she finally calmed down. Thalia just smiled and kissed her on the nose before walking off. "Love ya too wise girl but we in Tartarus and I can't get much more miserable than that"
Hmm learn something new about Thalia. Her biggest misery isn't to do with losing herself but how Annabeth and I would be afterwards, or perhaps she's too excited to be able to kill everything we come across without risking anyone around us...maybe both...probably both.
"Thalia get back here we don't even have a plan" Annabeth said
"Well let's walk and make one because I don't see the doors around here so this location is a bust" Thalia sassed, which seemed to irritate Annabeth.
"I swear if I didn't love you I would throw you into that river" Annabeth said marching to catch up to Thalia and I followed, and wisely kept my mouth shut. I may do stupid things but I'm not Apollo level stupid, I was raised by my mother and sisters after all and I can't be that big of a disappointment and failure to them.
We kept walking in the direction Thalia randomly chosen before we started noticing it was getting harder and harder to breath. "Maybe if we find the phlegethon, maybe it will help"
"The fire river" Thalia questioned. "How"
"There's some myths that call it the river of healing" Annabeth answered
"That's it. Some myths" Thalia asked skeptically.
"Well I mean logically speaking the river is meant to torture the souls of the damned not kill the souls of the damned, so maybe it will heal us...but it'll probably hurt like no tomorrow"
"Just fucking great. Torture yourself to get better. Who the fuck comes up with this shit" Thalia asked rhetorically.
We walked in silence after that until we saw a faint glow in the distance and started heading towards that because light equals fire, which could equal river of torturous healing. If I weren't in Tartarus with a declining ability to breath and move easily I would be staying away from this river.
The closer we got the more prevalent it became that the river has either carved itself a canyon or we have to cliff jump to get down to its sites as there was no firey presence coming into view. Oh how right that assumption was as when we got to the source of the glowing, not only did the ground become a cliff face but also there was no land on the other side.
"Only one option now" I said, "head deeper into the pit" I took a step off and flew my self down to the river's edge. Thalia and Annabeth not to far behind.
"Go on drink Percy" Thalia stated nudging me closer to the river of fire.
I rolled my eyes knowing her likely explanation was gonna be because your immune to fire and I'm not willing to test Annie's abilities yet even though she can summon fire just like you and not be bothered.
Though I relented to the wishes and wants of my girlfriend for I'd rather it be me than them. I stuck my hand in the river not feeling a thing so likely my fire immunity works on the river so that's good to know. I cupped my hands and drank from the river.
Now I would like you to imagine what the taste of Gasoline, Diesel, and kerosene mixed with extract from the words hottest peppers ever would taste like. Now I want you to multiply that by about ten thousands times and you'll just barely get into the area code of how horribly hot and terrible this tasted like. My mouth was instantly as dry as a tundra or desert or whatever the climate with negative rainfall is. It felt like my insides were cooking despite being immune to fire I guess that doesn't cover the inside parts. And to top it all off I was feeling practically every injury I've ever received without any physical manifestation of said injury. I guess it's good to know that most of the pain is most certainly done through mental manipulation. Maybe we'll be able to block it out eventually.
After I don't know how long, but Thalia and Annabeth will say it was a minute everything felt better, and I could breathe normally again and the air wasn't as bad, but still smelly.
"Worse thing you'll ever taste but it works" I coughed out.
Annabeth and Thalia hesitantly drank from the river but after about a minute they were getting up and we're fine.
"We should stick near the river" Annabeth suggested, "at least we'll be able to heal with it"
I didn't really see any flaw in her plan unless she wanted to go up river which only leads to Hades's palace.
We stuck to the river and headed down stream thankfully running into no problems for quite sometime until we caught up with a few Empousai and I think one of them was the one named Kelli.
"Soon we will be at the gates sisters and be able to serve our mistress and feed on the demigod scum that plague the world with their tasty blood." Kelli said up ahead. We quickly took cover behind a rock and I drew my bow and notched an arrow to shoot. Waiting to see if we'll get the location of the doors on this side.
"But Kelli how far do we have to walk. These heels are killer on the ankles" one of Kelli's follower's asked
"It's not that much further and just think of all the demigods you'll get to feast on after we make it to the doors." Kelli said still oblivious to the fact of probably the three most powerful demigods in history and certainly at the current moment are not even thirty feet away.
"What if we get lost" a different follower of Kelli asked
"How many times do we have to tell you this you stupid girl. As long as you stick to the Phlegetheon it will take you to the heart of Tartarus where the doors are" I'm presuming Kelli's second scolded.
With that I released my arrow and fired five more taking down the Empousai's before they even knew what hit them. Though Kelli somehow moved perfectly to survive the arrow.
"DEMIGODS" Kelli yelled only to cough afterwards.
"Yes yes Kelli" Annabeth said, recognizing the Empousai from the labyrinth. "Thanks for the info. See you around I guess" Annabeth then stabbed Kelli with one of her knives dusting the monster.
"GENERALS" I heard the voice of my significant annoyance's grandfather, what is he doing here.
"So glad I caught upto you. The spider lady was nice by the way." He said causing Annabeth to shiver a bit. "I trust you got us a location to go to for the doors" he said
"Yeah we do Iapetus" I said, "but why are you here" I asked
"My little star is sad her little brother is down here. Uncontrollable crying refusing to eat the whole nine yards. Lady Artemis asked me to come down here, since she was running out of options to calm her into eating again" Iapetus said sadly.
"Thanks for coming" Thalia said. "Though I'm beat after the fall, the stupid fucking glass floor beach whatever the fuck it's called, and drinking from the fire river."
"We'll set up camp and move when your rested generals. This is no place for mortals" Iapetus said. "I don't sense any monsters nearby either" he added.
Thalia and Annabeth set up our tent and went inside only for me to hear the two sleeping moments later.
"I'll keep watch my general. Go rest" Iapetus insisted.
"Thank you Iapetus" I said heading into the tent.
"No no. Thank you for giving me a chance general. I'm merely repaying a part of the massive debt I owe to you three" I heard him say before I fell asleep from exhaustion not realizing the toll my body and mind has taken the past few days.
